The Names of Persons chargcd with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is revested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tlie Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, " W. C. • *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that ail information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and « £ Absentees andjDeserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tie reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of tho propoity, without the apprehension of the offender. Sessions, in April, 1879, for a violent assault on the police at Whitby, and sentenced to 12 calendar months hard labour, he may seek employment amongst farmers or public works, or may try to get on board a fishing boat. Stolen from the person in Bolton about 9 pm„ on 18th ultimo :— a gent.' s gold lever Watch, maker's name ' Stewart, Liverpool,' No. 2706, gold dial, slightly dinged on the back of the case, aud has black metal fingers, and a gold Albert Chain, with a heart Locket attached at the end. £ 2 reward will be paid by the owner of the Watch for such information as will lead to the recovery of the property, and apprehension aud conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen from the person, at Beverley, during the races on 2nd and 3rd instant:— 1 old- fashioned silver Geneva Watch, ' Isaac Kemp, Hempholme,' upon the case ; 1 silver Geneva Watch, No. 10090, gold plated Albert, with Seal and Key- attached. Information to Mr. Supt. Knight, Guildhall, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 9. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING-. On the evening of 2nd instant, the dead body of a newly- born male Child, wrapped in a ' piece of a sheet with a coarse apron over it, was found in an opening leading to the back of Forth Terrace, Newcastle- on- Tyne, and the Coroner's Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Her Majesty's Government will pay £ 50 reward to any person ( other ' than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of , State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. The articles in which the body was wrapped may be seen upon application to Mr. Supt. Campbell, Westgate Police Station. Information to the Detective Department, Central Police Station, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, June 11. Wanted on suspicion of causing the death of Maria Saunders, at Newington, Kent, on 31st ultimo :— a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, light whiskers, aud small moustache; dressed in tweed tourist hat, monkey jacket, light fustian trousers, both dirty and greasy iu front, the heels of his boots have been recently hobnailed, he was employed as a labourer at Hailing, Kent, up to 28th ultimo, has worked in a foundry, employed as a stoker of an engine, and has travelled with Saugei's Circus, Information to Mr. Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent .- Bow- street, June 4. Charged by warrant with maliciously wounding Jeremiah Swales, at South Stockton, on 28tli April last:— JOHN MOORE, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark gipsy appearance, travels with a horse and cart, gathering old iron, fic., name on cart ' James Moore, General Dealer, Malton.' Has a wife and children with him. Is well known throughout the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire. About 12 30 a. m. on 9ili instant, a dwelling- house at St. Alban's, was entered, and stolen therein :— a silver Mug, with the initials ' A. J. R.'; a plain ditto; a silver plated revolving Egg- stand, ' Presented to Philip Reynolds, 1811' a plated coffee Pot; a ditto cream Jug ; a cake Basket, 12 inches over ; two plated half- pint Mugs; a ditto netted sugar Basin, with red glass ; a toast Rack ; an 8- hole Cruet- stand ; a 4- hole ditto ; a suider central fire Rook Rifle, the barrel 2 feet 4 inches long, name of ' G. Gooch ' on the breech; and a Dutch Cheese. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, June 11. On the evening of 6th instant a shop in Manchester was broken into and stolen therefrom : — 3 gent's gold Geneva Watches. 1 lady's do. do. 1 silver rack lever Watch, loose case, and minute hand off. 27 silver Geneva Watches. 4 long gold Guards, 9- carat. 1 coloured gold Brooch, pearls in centre, set in black ground. 5 gold wedding Rings. 96 gold keeper Rings, one very broad. 1 silver Locket, with ' Mizpah' on it, and a gold Chain attached. 1 gold Locket with Chain attached. 48 Canadian Alberts. 1 diamond Ring, set with pearls, 15- carat. 1 gold opal Ring, 15- carat, a stone missing from the centre. 1 gold Ring, 15- cara. t, set with 5 pearls. 1 gent.'? 15- carat gold Ring, set with single garnet. 1 ditto 9- carat ditto set with 3 pearls and corals. 1 9- carat garnet Ring. 1 cameo Brootli, off colour, representing the head of a female. £ 10 reward will be paid by the owner of the property for its recovery ( or in proportion to the amount recovered), and the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. A white flannel Shirt, marked ' C/ 8.' A white flannel Petticoat, worked with red worsted at bottom, marked ' U/ R,' a new bed Tick, marked ' B/.' A pair of man's elastic- side Boots, pearl buttons down front. A. new white bolland Piriafore, trimmed with Turkey red. A new striped Pinafore. A black and white plaid Shawl. Two new coarse linen Aprons, marked ' N 3/ 4.' A child's dark blue Frock, new. Two red ditto. A pair of caddy Sheets, soiled. A white Skirt, with insertion round bottom. Several Cigar- holders, and meerschaum Pipes, new and second- hand. Most of the jewellery is scratched with private marks. £ 10 reward will be paid by the owner on recovery of the property, or in proportion of amount recovered, and conviction of the offender or offenders. H., W. A., C. P.'; 18 large Forks and 24 small ditto, some with crest— a lion rampant, othcur "> h the letter ' U.' ; 1 Waiter ; 1 Suga- " After, lined with gold ; 1 pair Sugar Tongs, 1 pair At- -. v, agus Tongs; 1 Soup Ladle, with crest— a star ; 2 round Salt Cellars, with three legs, and the words ' A Trifle from a Friend' on the bottom, all silver. Three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, £ 15 in Gold, about 10s. in Silver, and a Money Bag, marked ' G. E. R.' Supposed by two men, who left Bletchley Station, by the 7' 5 a. m. train on 3rd instant, taking 2nd class tickets for Euston- station : one is from 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, full face, and small thin sandy whiskers ; dressed in a light speckled top coat and high black hat; the other is front 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches liigli, very large black curly whiskers, hollow cheeks, sullen appear- ance, and thick lips; dressed in a long black top coat, dark trousers, and high black hat. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Twiastead, between 3 and 5 p. m., on 30th ultimo :—£ 4 10s. in Gold, about 5s. in Silver, 3J. in Coppers, and Half Farthing ; 2 silver Brooches; 2 pairs of silver Ear- rings; 2 silver Lockets, one plain, one with monogram ou it; 1 gold pencil Case ; 1 silver Pencil Case, cracked across the centre ; 1 gold Ring, set in tortoiseshell; 1 silver Thimble ; 1 small gold Locket, with dent in back ; pair of gold plated Liuk3 ; 1 small paper Box ; 1 button Hook ; the following articles were on a split ring— 1 small gold Whistle ; a Russian silver Coin, about the size of a florin ; 1 French silver Coin, about the size of a sixpence ; 1 Threepenny Piece ; half a Fish, with views of Chelmsford in it. Information at Police Station, Hedingham, Essex.— Bow- street, June 4. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Everley, near Scarborough, on ' 5th instant :— a Watch and Guard, watch recovered. Sold at Flask inn, near Whitby, by ROBERT WATSON, alias HAMELTON, a labourer, a native of Whitby, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, rough beard, no whiskers or moustache, stout build ; dressed in old dark coat and vest, fustian trousers, patched at knees, red handkerchief, and black cap. This man has been frequently convicted at Malton, Pickering, and Whitby, for robbery and assaults on the police, was tried at Northallerton Quarter Stolen by means of burglary, at Sonnenberg, Park Hill Road, Croydon, during the night of 30th ultimo :— 57 Spoons, 12 Table, 18 Dessert, 17 Tea, 3 Egg, 6 Salt, 1 Gravy; 38 Forks, 17 large, 21 small; 2 small Ladles ; 2 Fish Slices ; 2 Butter Knives; a pair of Sugar- tongs; a Sugar Basin, raised flowers; and a Milk Jug, ail silver, with crest— a horses head, on each article. Stolen in Manchester, between 1st and 2nd instant, by means of shopbreaking :— An 18 carat gold Locket, set with pearls in shape of cross. An 18 carat gold Locket, with pearl in centre. A bright gold Locket, enamelled with tombstone, part of enamel broken. A 15 carat gold Bracelet, oval pattern, set with three carbuncles. An 18 carat gold Trinket, shape of a man's head. A 9 carat small gold Boat, several gold Seals, and other Appendages. Several gold and silver Pencil- cases, one with inscription ' Presented by the Clerks of Salford Town Hall.' A diamond cluster Ring, supposed set with eight small and one large stone in centre. An 18 carat gold Ring, set with two diamonds and one ruby, scratched ' C/ E/ O.' A gold Pin, form of a horse's hoof, 15 carat, hollow. A 15 carat gold Pin, form of an eagle's claw holding an aqua marine stone. A 15 carat gold Pin, triangular shape, set with bloodstone. A gold Pin, imitation of dog's head painted upon it. A set of 9 carat gold Studs, shape— bricksetter's trowel, with white coral handle. A set of gold Studs, turquoise stone, 15 carat. A set of gold Studs, carbuncle stone, 15 carat. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of 1st instant, from Penny Pot Hall, Halstead, Essex oval- shaped silver- plated Teapot; 2 silver Teaspoons; 2 silver salt Spoons, with doves stamped on handle ; 9 metal Tea Spoons ; 3 metal Table Spooii3 ; 1 metal dessert Spoon ; 1 metal tea caddy Spoon, washed wiih yellow inside ; 1 metal mustard spoon, washed with yellow iuside ; 1 pair of metal sugar Tongs ; 1 metal Box, the colour aud size of a sovereign ; 1 small oval brass pin Box, with pebbles top and bottom. During the night of 31st ultimo, the house of William Dale,_ of Barton Seagrave, farmer, was entered, and stolen therein :— a double- barrel Gun, with hole about the size of a shot in left hand barrel, about a foot from muzzle ; a plain single barrel Gun, was loaded when stolen, rather old ; a brown Melton Overcoat, with side pockets and breast pocket, top button hole slightly torn ; a new brown under Coat, side pockets, with laps, old fashioned ; a pair of female's spring- side Boots, much worn ; also a silver tea Spoon, marked 1 P. E. F.' Information to Mr, Superintendent Botterill, or to the Inspector, Police Station, Kettering, Northampton- shire.— Bow- st, June 4. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on night of 9th instant, at Thorpe, Surrey :- a half- bred Mare, brown, 5 years old, 15j hands high, star in forehead, the property of Mr. Pullen. Information to Mr, Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey,— Bow- slrpe!, June 11. Supposed stolen on 5th instant :— two Horses, one a bay, about 16 hands high, blind off eye, and very short tail. Committed for trial at Cambridge Assizes, for stealing 26 head of Cattle, at Stuntney in Ely, on 23rd ultimo:— JAMES ROONEY, cattle jobber, of no fixed address, born at Manchester, but speaks like and has the appearance of an Irishman, 42 years of age, 5 feet 61 inches high, without shoes, rather fresh complexion, bushy whiskers and s. ndy moustache, auburn hair, blue eyes, broad face, and propor- tionate build, scar under left , arm, ditto obliterated, ditto on right shin aud left ankle, ditto of flogging on shoulders ; dressed in small black billycock, brown mixture clothes with white mackintosh over them. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Police Office, Ely, Cambridgeshire. — Bow street, June 7. Charged with stealing 60 Sheep, at Boss, on 5th March list ( recovered) :— WILLIAM STOCKER, a convict license holder, 48 years of age, 5 feet G^ inches high ( without his shoes), stout build, oval face, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, dark hair aud whiskers ( meeting under chin), and moustache, has a cut mark on each eyebrow, scar on nose and under chin, mark under right ear and on right thumb ; a cooper by trade ; dressed iu a dark or pilot cloth suit, and black hard hat. H • was convicted at Warwick Sessions in January, 1874, of stealing a Coat, and sentenced to 6 months hard labour, and again at Wakefield Sessions, 17th August, 1874, of larceny after pre. con 3 years supervision, « . .. * l r Chatham Convict Prison on 14th January last, and reported himself to the Metropolitan Police, then giving his address Finsbury Chambers, Sun- street, Finsbury, but left the Metropolitan District about 10th ultimo, and is now supposed to be in the county of Kent, Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Boss, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 7. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Hilton Park, Prestwich, between 11 a. m. and 12 noon, on 4th instant :— a silver Cup, crest- lion head and plough, with handle at back, and stands about 6 inches high. Supposed by two men :— 1st, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, and slender build ; dressed in a dark grey suit, and haid billycock hat. 2nd, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, and slender build ; dressed in a dark coat, light trousers, which fitted very tight. Ho had the appearance of a groom. Information to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Constabulary Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester. — Bow- street, June 11. Stolen at Bowdon :— a silver pint Mug, marked ' M'; a ditto half- pint Mug, marked ' M.'; a ditto cream Jug, boat shape; a ditto Wine Strainer ; a ditto Salver, beaded edge, crest— flying griffin. By a man, 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches hi;/!', no whiskers, slight moustache,, stout bui'. d ; appears to be a cliair mender by trade, as ha carried a few canes and a bass in his hand. £ 2 reward will be paid by Mrs. Beamont, of Bowdon, fir the appiehensjon and con- viction, and recovery of the property. Information to Mr. Supt. Little, Constabulary Office, Altrincham, or to Chief Inspector Leighton, Constabulary Office, Sale, Cheshire. — Bow- street, June 11. Description of THOMAS CONLY, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long dark hair, going bald, sallow com- plexion, hazel eyes, rather full, no whiskers on side of face, walks very straight, stout build; had on when he went away brown cloth pilot coat and vest, check trousers, a native of Northumberland, but has been in America for several years ; charged with larceny as a servant. Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, Burton- on- Trent, or to Sergeant Harrison, Barton- under- Needwood, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, June 11 Charged with stealing a Shawl ( recovered), at South Stockton, on 6th instant :— a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, thin face, brown hair, little or no whiskers; dressed in dark coat and trousers, and cloth cap ; had the appearance of an ironworker or labourer. Information to Mr. Supt. Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, Durham.— Bow- street, June 11. Absconded on 8th ultimo, charged with stealing .£ 100 3s. 11d. JOSEPH TAPSON, 4o years of age, ( looks older), 5 feet 4 inches high, s'im build, dark complexion, black l. air, whiskers and moustache ( long and thin), shaved dark chin, broad forehead and prominent; dressed in dark clothes, high hat, and a clerk. Most likely to be found at a watering place. Has stayed at Brighton, St. Leonards, and Southport. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Gr6at Scotland ; Yard, S. W. — Metropolitan Police, June 9. Amended description of JAMES CLARK, charged with embezzlement, and advertised in Police Gazette of 12tli ult. : — he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, brown hair, and brown whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed in dark clo'h cap, small ribbed black cloth coat aud vest, two pairs of trousers on, one pair is dark cloth, and the other a brown mixture cloth, both pairs have fly fronts, a belt round his waist, and no braces, and laced boots, with heel plates ; he is a chimney sweeper, and will apply to master sweeps for employment; he had no brushes or tools of his own. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Sowden, County Police Station, Boston, Lincolnshire.— Brno- street, June 9. Abscorded from Halesowen, Worcestershire, on 1st inst., charged with embezzling £ 40 7s. 3d. WILLIAM CALDI- CUTT, clerk, about 34 ycar3 of age, 5 feet G inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, beard, aud moustache ( inclined to sandy colour); dressed when he left m a dark brown mixture jacket, light tweed trousers, haul black felt hat, and red and white striped shirt. Has friends living at Birmingham and Liverpool, at which places he is well known. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Halesowen, near Birming- ham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen between 12 pm. on 5th, and 7 a. m. on 6tli instant, from Pentrehobin, near Mold :— a silver Candlestick, 11 ins. high, about 24 oz. in weight, with crest of hand, the two first fingers and thumb straight, the remainder clenched ; also a red leather Apron, with strings to tie round the waist, and one around the neck. Stolen during the night of 28th ultimo, from a house in the course of erection at Blankney ;— a Trowel with brass ferrule ; a Brush, marked ' J. G.' ; a brick Hammer ; a Line and two line Pins. Supposed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 fJk 7 inches high, stcut, slender build, light small moustache, and whiskers on chin ; dressed in grey coat and trousers, round hat, and old long boots, very narrow at toes. Information to Mr. Supt. Stevenitt, Sleaford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen on the 2nd instant, at Bolton :— a woman's blue aud white striped cotton Jacket, trimmed with white braid ; also a woman's drabbet Chemise, bound round neck with tape, and gathered at back, buttons at neck, nearly new. By a woman about 19 years of age, light complexion, delicate looking; dressed in mixed black and white skirt, trimmed with three rows of black braid, mixed coloured shawl, and has been in several workhouse hospitals, puttering frem rheu- matism. And a man, about 27 years of age, dark complexion, red face, and clean shaved; dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, far worn, and coloured scarf, tied in a sailor's knot.
