The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the jinrposo of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. ' Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offencc charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and » f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in tho POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any eipectation of reward for tho return cf the property, without the apprehension of the offendor. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Poet to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Some person during the night of 22 nd instant, set fire to a piece of Gorse and Heath, at Pound Bottom, Downton. Any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders ( not being the person who actually set it on fire), shall receive £ 10 reward, on application to Mr. Superinten- dent Stephens, Fisherton, Salisbury, Wilts. — Bow- street. May 31. FORGERY. Description of JOHN BUCKLEY, wanted on warrant for uttering a forged cheque for £ 102 10s., at Heckmondwike : — 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown eyes, dark brown or black hair, slight dark moustache and whiskers down face, medium build, lost a front upper tooth, rather thick lips, spots on face, subject to piles which bleed freely, and turns left toe in a little when walking ; dress, black twilled worsted morning coat and vest, one pocket behind, one outside left breast, and ticket do., bound with narrow black braid, oval buttons, and light check trousers. Left Heckmondwike on 15th instant, and is sup- posed he will endeavour to leave the country. Information to Mr. Superintendent Airton, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 20. ROBBErY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Truro Railway Station, on - 20th instant:— a gold Watch, with steel hands, ' J Kempthorne, and William Budge,' engraved on plate inside, No. 1853, 50109 ; also a gold Albert Chain attached, with hook at end. Information to Mr. Superintendent Angel, City Police Station, Truro.— Bow- street, May 31 Stolen from the person at Epsom, on 20th instant:— a gold lever Watch, white face, marked on face, No. 8515,' Dan Deshoro,' Grays Inn, possage, value £ 20, a reward will be given for its recovery. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dobson, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from the person, at Belle Vue Gardens, on 21st instant:— a gold lever stop Watch, centre seconds, cream coloured dial, No. 75747 ; also a gold albert Guard, fetter link pattern, had a Two Guinea Piece, 1758, attached as a pendant. Also stolen from the person, at Belle Vue Gardens, on 22nd instant :— an English lever Watch, double cases, No. 56,944, gold minute hands, steel seconds finger, maker's same ' J. Brownhill, Liverpool.' Information to Mr. Superintendent Bent, County Constabu- Jary Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- st., May 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary, at Bolehall, near Tamworth, during tli i night of 29th ultimo :— a rough black double- breasted long Overcoat, black velvet collar, pocket on each hip, ticket pocket right side ; a pair of gent's strong lace- up Boots, toecapped, hooks above the lace holes, have been recently half new soled ; a pair of gent's light lace- up Boots, plain fronts ; a meerschaum Pipe, partially coloured ; and a meerschaum cigar Holder. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Walker, Constabulary Office, Atherstone, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, June 2. During the night of 25th instant, a wheelwrights shop Hulme End, Sheen, was broken into and stolen therin :— 2 Hand Saws, and 1 Tenon Saw1 with brass back, all nearly new ; some Chisels and 1 6- inch Square, with black stock, all marked ' J. Woolley ;' an Axe, with a new, stail in, and a Tool. Information to Sergeant Dobson, Longnor, or P. C. Beard, Warslow, near Ashbourne, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 31. Between 2 p. m. on 18th and 1 p. m. on 20th instant, a house, at Coxon, Chapel- street, Cheadle, was briken into and stolen therefrom:— 1 American gothic Timepiece, with alarum ; 0 Table Spoons ; 6 Tea Spoons, electro- plate ; 1 silver Table Spoon, marked ' E. W. ;' a Pocket- knife, metal half, with two blades, and cork and champagne drawer ; 1 Pocket- knife, buck horn handle, with four blades, makers name, W. Seales pairs of Braces; and some common shirt Studs, and Buttons. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Harding, Cheadle, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 31. On 18th instant a dwelling house in Manchester, was broken into and stolen therefrom :— a lady's gold lever Watch, No. 5313; a ditto Geneva ditto, No. 7101 ; a gold Albert Guard, long links, half twisted, with four small links between each of the long links, French gold Coin appended ; a silver Dessert Spoon, marked ' W. S. T. ;' a ditto Fork marked ' W. S. T. ;' a breast Pin, set with small diamond; a ditto, with oval carbuncle, beaded rim ; a Link of large coral Beads, with graduate in size from the middle, and has a gold snap. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner of this property for its recovery, or in proportion to the amount recovered, and the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. Infor- mation to the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Perry- hill Farm, Nazeing, on 23rd instant:— an old silver Watch, with steel Chain, and seal attached, maker Pratt, Epping, an old Spade Guinea and Half Guinea, with a hole in it, and ring attached ; a black cloth Coat and Vest; 4 blue Shirts ; a black Shawl; a Paisley Shawl, and some old silver Coins. £ 3 reward will be paid by Mr. James Pegrum, of Perry- hill Farm, the owner of the above property, for such information as shall lead to the recovery of the property and conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion at Detective Department, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow strjet, May 20. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9 aud 10 a. m. on 22nd instant, at Ticehurst, Sussex : - a silver lever Watch; and a small lead or metal Box, containing a Sovereign, a Half Sovereign, and 12s. in Silver. By a tramp, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, sandy hair and whiskers, stout build ; dressed in an old blue guernsey, fustian trousers, light Scotch cap, with peak, and old boots ; he was chased for several miles in the direction of Tunbridge ; on the road he threw away his jacket, in a pocket of which was found the stolen Watch ; he can be identified. Information at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Superintendent Jenner, Battle, Sussex.— Boic- street, Max/ 20. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of 25th ultimo, at Roupell Park :— a black cob Horse, 15 hands high, one fore and one hind foot white, small white mark on forehead ; also a small light chestnut [ mare Pony, donkey size, 4 years old, very rough, with recently blistered sides, partly clipped. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police June 2. Stolen from a stable in Bootle, about 9 a. m. 28th ultimo : — 2 dark coloured chestnut Geldings, recovered. By EDWD. BOWDLER, alias BLINKER, a groom, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, darK complexion, small whiskers, no beard or moustache, round face, slightly round shouldered, bow legged, blinks with his eyes when speaking ; dressed in a dark tweed coat and vest, light tweed trousers, black billycock hat, with flat crown, aud lace- up boots. Has been in the habit of attending fai> s with horse dealers, and is well known throughout the country, he was last seea with the horses in his possession in Liverpool, about 10 p. m., 28th ult,, had in the afternoon engaged a horse box to take them to Trent, saying he wanted to go to Grantham that night. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Walsh, County Police Office, Bootle, Cumberland, who holds a warrant, and will pay £ 5 reward for his apprehension and conviction.— Boio- street, June 2* Stolen from a field, near Solihull, on 23rd ultimo :— a black nag Mare, 0 years old, 16 hands high, 3 white legs, white blaze on forehead, short tail, in good condition, marks of fireing on hocks. £ 5 reward will be paid for information leading to recoveiy of the mare. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Yardley, Solihull, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 2, The Pony, and strong spring Cart, in possession of the Police, at Appleby, and described in the Police Gazette, on 26th ultimo, is found to have been stolen from Mottram St. Andrews, near Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Jxne 2. Description of JAMES HURST, labourer, late of Newark, Nottinghamshire, charged on warrant with stealing a Horse ( recovered), from Markfield, near Leicester, on 10th instant:— he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, hazel eyes, gather freckled face, brown hair, sandy moustache, whisl: r: shave, d. off', rather thick lips, sK^ ht ii- "^ ediment in his speech, scar on right ankle, and of medium I jd ; dressed in a dark pilot jacket, and drab slop, or cord vest under, fustian or cord trousers, black soft billy hat, and elastic- sido boots ; served in the Grenadier Guards about 9 years, and was discharged in January last, with a pension ; he has been to Newark since the robbery, and left about a week ago, stating he was going to Crewe, Cheshire, where he has an uncle residing, supposed to be named Watson. Information to Mr. Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, May 31. Found in Monks- Eleigh, on 25th instant, supposed stolen :— a light chestnut cart Mare, about 16 hands high, white face, sores on back and shoulders, aged, and in low condition. Information to Mr, Superintendent Chapman, Boxford, or to P. C. Sturgeon, Police Station, Hadleigh, Suffolk.— Bow- street May 31. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of 2Gth instant, for stealing a Heifer from Old Heath, near Shrewsbury, has been apprehended and remanded until 3lst instant, on the above charge, also with stealing two Cows ( found in his posses- sion), which he had stolen from Emstrey. He is about 25 years of age, 5 feet. 5 inches high, fresh complexion, round face, prominent cheek bones, slight scar down centre of nose, brown hair, clean shaved face, hazel eyes, rather stout build, very short neck, and rather round shoulders; dressed in a black jacket, grey vest and trousers, small hard felt hat, red woollen shirt, and white collar; has the appearance of a respectable farm labourer. States he is a native of Ruabon. Information to Mr. Superintendent Howells, or to Sergeant near, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, May 31. Wanted for stealing 2 Heifers, at Standish, on the night of 18tn iostant., sold in Malmsbury Market on 19th instant: -— 2 men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, no whiskers; dressed iu a round hard hat, brown coat ( large plaid), like a dealers, and looked too long for him, all rather shabby, aud is a sharp quick speaking fellow. The other is 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, full face, rather good looking, has a down cast look in his face, short hair, but inclined to curl, a little brown moustache ; dressed in long brown overcoat, hard bowler hat, and had tne appear- ance of a. young farmer. Information to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Office, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, May 28. Stolen about noon, on 24th instant, from Chapel Fair, Southampton :— a bay Horse, 9 years old. about 14 hands high, white star on forehead, hair rubbed off back by saddle, white on off hind foot up to fetlock joint, short tail, cut square. By two men, one about 40 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, and whiskers cut close ; dressed in dark plaid mixture cloth suit, black hard felt hat, and carried a whip and ash stick. The other 17 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, round face, small moustache; dressed in Bedford cord Trousers, and hard black hat. These men left in the fair a brown pony, rather heavy long hair on its leg3, has had its right hip put out which causes the pony to walk very lame. Information to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, Hants. — Bow- street, May 26. On the evening of 17th instant a light spring Cart, painted green, picked out with grey, bearing name 1 George T. Ongley, Eltham, Kent,' on back; two sets of silver mounted Harne- s, ' G. T. O.' on blinkers and saddle; a Bridle; two Whips— one ivory handle, gold plated ferrule, and one black whalebone, silver ferrule ; a body Cloth,' H. B.'; a brown horse Cloth and Roller, ' G. T. O.:; 2 carriage Cloths— one bound crimson, one plain; 2 waterproof Rugs — one white, one red check; 2 blue carriage Cushions; a pair of carriage June 11 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. 2 Lamps ; 4 horse Brushes ; a Leather ; and a Sponge ; and a chestm t gelding Pony, 14 hands high, 7 years old, white blaze I'OW I face, scar on shoulder, brown and white tail, part of off fore shoe deficient, high action, and fast trotter. Were stolen fro u Eltham, Kent, aud were last seen in the neigh- bourhood of Sideup, Kent. £ 5 reward will be paid by the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotlaud Yard, for any information leading to the recovery of the property and the apprehension of the thief or thieves.— Bow- street, May 20. Found at Dagnall, Bucks, on 20th instant, ( supposed stolen) :— a light chestnut horse Pouy, Russiau, about 12 hands high, 7 years old, iu good condition, and has a very thick mane. Information to Inspector Sutton, Police Station, Linslade, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 23. Stolen during the night of 23rd instant., from Lowfield Farm, at Woodham four 2 year old Bullocks, two red, one red and white, aud oue roau coloured, which is muchless than the other three. Supposed 1) 7 a mau who had the appearance of a drover, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, and dressed iu a long overcoat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Rogers, Police Office, Darlington, Durham.— Bow- street, May 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen at Bolton, about 5 am. on lst instant: —£ 8 in Gold. By a man who ha 1 lodged at the house five nights, glass blower by trade, a native of Manchester, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, blue mark under right eye, moustache, otherwise clean shaved, medium build, parts his hair iu front; dressed in Scotch plaid trousers, i- ineh square pattern, light cloth coat, double- breasted black cloth waistcoat, browu knitted jacket underneath, cotton check shirt, white silk muffler, black felt flat top liat, without lining, and low shoe?. Had iu his possession a Watch, and a black Overcoat with black velvet collar, far worn. Stated he had worked iu Edinburgh, and bad got work at a coal pit at Halshaw Moor, and should like to go to America. Infor- mation to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— — Bow- street, June 2. Absconded from Portsmouth., charged with embezzlement: — GORDON HARPER, about 47 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, saudy whiskers and moustache, chin clean shaven, grey eyes, fresh complexion, very large nose, medium build; dressed in black felt hat, black frock coat, black cloth trousers and vest, lace- up boots, and carried a bundle containing a blue serge coat, and other rather shabby clothing. Formerly served iu the Royal Marine Artillery, but has recently been engaged as coal carman and agent, I e resided in Bull- street, West Bromwich, about 12 years since, and removed thence to Griggs- court, Coleshill- street, Dale End, Birmingham, aud is believed to have gone from there to Cheltenham, about 8 years since. He is believed to have a brother a commercial traveller, at Birmingham, and an uncle a pawnbrober, at Great Bridge, near West Bromwich. Information to Chief Constable J ervis, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, June 2. Wanted, charged with stealing a Jacket, recovered, at Danthorpe, on 29th ultimo a m n a'lout 45.- years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender figure, light hair, cut short, 110 whiskers ; dressed in fustian trousers and jacket, a patch in each knee and back, raddy hat, was carrying a guano bag, and had the appearance of a rag gatherer. Information to Mr. Superintendent Burniston, East Riding Constabulary, Sproatley, Hull.— Bow- street, June 2. Wanted for stealing a horse water Brush, marked ' 3s. Gd.' on side in ink, at Fleet, on 27th ultimo :— a man about 35 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, is a tramping groom, and stated he was married ; dressed in a dark coat and vest, old brown trousers, lace- up boots, white necktie, with dark spots on it, and black felt hat. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot. — Bow- street, June 2. Description of HENRY CHARLES HARCOURT. who is - wanted under a warrant, for larceny :— 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, light complexion, light and straight hair, slight light moustache ; he is of gentlemanly appearauce and address, is a draper's assistant, and says he can speak four languages. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, Central Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow street, June 2. Description of WALTER THACKRAY, who is wanted at Sheffield, cn a warrant for embezzlement:— he is a clerk, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather stout, has a scar on the outside of left eye, where a tumour was cut out, dark bushy whiskers all round face, and moustache ; dressed when last seen in a light brown plaid suit, square cut coat, single breasted. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bow- street, May 31. Charged on warrant with stealing on 17th instant, at Hastings :— 1 Oxford mixture livery Coat, plain silver plated buttons; 1 mixture cloth sleeve Vest, black bone buttons ; 2 pairs of black cloth Trousers ; 1 mixture cloth Jacket; 1 dark grey Overcoat; 1 dark blue Overcoat; 1 pair of black and white plaid Trousers ; 1 ney brown knitted wcol Vest; and 1 black cloth Coat, with velvet collar. THOMAS DUMBRELL, 22 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 5 incl es hign, fair complexion, short hair, 110 whiskers, large mouth, flat n- se; dressed in twill coat, mixture cloth trousers and vest, and black round bard felt bat. Works as a painters labourer, was formerly employed as potman at a gin palace, near the Cattle Market, Islington. Informal iou to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex. — Bow- street, May 31. Further information respecting the man wanted for stealing carpenter's Tools at Burcott, near Dorchester, Oxon, advertised in Police Gazette of 19th instant:— One of his teeth in upper jaw protiudes, and is longer than the others. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, May 31. Description of JOSEPH ROBINS, alias FREDERICK ROBERTSON, a hawker of crockeryware, charged on a warrant with larceny of a quantity of China, Glass, & c. :— he is about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, clean shaved, and rather stout build ; dressed in brown velvet coat ancl vest, worsted cord trousers, and brown soft felt hat. He holds a pedlar's certificate in the name of ' Frederick Robert- son,' granted for Gloucester on 2nd August last. When last seen was making toward Bridport, Dorset, with a basket of crockeryware ; he hawks the counties of Gloucester, Somerset, and Dorset, and has a woman with him about 21 yeais of age, rather short and stout. Information to Mr. Superintendent Vickery, Weymouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- st., May 31. Absconded on 27th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 5 in Silver :— ANNIE BAILEY, 20 years of age, ( looks younger), 5 feet 1 inch high, light brown hair, small blue eyes, fair complexion, full face ; dressed in black or grey, black jacket, brown straw hat, trimmed brown satin, . lack and brown feathers ; is a dometic servant. Informa- tion to Mr. Chief Superintendent Wilshere, Town Hall, Folkestone, Kent, who holds the warrant, — Bow- street, Ma y 31. Charged on warrant with embezzlement at Handswortb, on 26th instant:- WILLIAM FELTON, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, slight dark moustache, no whiskers, Blender build cannot use his right arm so freely as bis left; dressed in black jacket and vest, gray overcoat, light cloth trousers, elastic- tide boots, and black ( flat top) felt hat. He is a native of Birmingham, and was employed to collect money in Birmingham for the Prudential Society. Information to Mr. Superintendent Whitehurst, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Ilands- ortli, wnear Birmingham.— Bow- street, Man 31.
