Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed • offender!, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in referenoe to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. * t* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor wast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • ef Absentees and^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offi. e Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. < 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. Absconded from Chester, on 17tli instant, charged with forgery, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued :— WILLIAM HENRY SMITH, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, light moustache, has a deformed shoulder, which makes his neck appear short; dresses well; and has been agent to a Loan Society. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any one arresting him, or giving such information as shall lead to his arrest within one ealendar month from this date. A photo- graph maybe seen on application to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester, to whom information is to be given.— Bow- street, April 28. aobbery and larceny from the person. Stolen from the person, iu Beverley, on 24th instant:— a Purse containing about £ 1 10s. By a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin build, pale complexion, no whiskers or moustache; dressed iu long black coat, buttoned up to neck, black felt hat, dark cloth trousers, had the appearance of a clerk. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. murder and maliciously wounding. Charged with unlawfully wounding Police Constable John Charles Frost, at Moseley Hole, on 25th instant :— WILLIAM ASTLEY, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, usually wears it long, grey eyes, aud Blender build ; dressed in drab suit and cap. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Bilston, or to Serjeant Wright, New Cross, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Found at Shoreham, on 18th instant, the body of a newly- born Male Child, wrapped iu an old flannel and child's cotton nightgown, and placed in a bandbox tied up in brown paper. An inquest has been held'and the jury returned the verdict ' That the deceased died from suffocation, but how caused there was no evidence to show.' Information to Mr. Super- intendent Parnell, West Sussex Constabulary, Steyning, or to Sergeant Denman, Shoreham, where the above- named articles can be seen.— Bow- street, April 28. On 8th instant, the dead body of a newly Male Child, was found, naked in a field, at the Khoss, Killybebill, it had a harelip, at the Coroner's Inquest held oil the body, the Jury returned a Verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or persons unknown.' Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Hewlett, Neath, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, April 23. burglary and house breaking. Stolen, by means of burglary, on the night of 27th inst.: — a large old- fashioned silver Tea- pot, round body, embossed, ivory handle covered with silver ; 6 old silver Table Spoons, one marked ' M. K.' and one ' M. A.', the others plain ; a large silver Gravy Spoon, plain ; a dozen silver Tea Spoons, some maybe marked ' M. A.'; 6 silver Dessert Spoons, plain; a dozen silver Forks, large aud small size, one ot thtm has a crest on— an eagle with expanded wings. Stolen from a dwelling- house on 28th instant :— a pair of gold Ear- rings with long drops, a gold heart, pin twisted on front ; a lady's gold dress Ring, 3 green stones in, made from a wedding Ring ; a set of gold Studs with pearl backs ; a gold horse shoe Pin, a gold Pin, imitation of Maltese Cross and Star. Iuformation to the Detective Department, Leeds.— Bow- street, April 30. arson and wilful burning. Between 8 and 9 p. m. on 18th instant, Ashdowu Forest, Buxted, Sussex, was set on fire, and several acres of Heath, Furze, and Shrubs, were destroyed :—£ 10 reward will be given for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on applying to Mr. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, or to Mr. Superintendent Berry, East Griusted, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 20. forgery. Description of a man calling himself Captain C. R. LE MARCHANT, charged upon a warrant with obtaining 5s. by means of a forged cheque, upon Messrs. Cox & Co., at St. Leonards, on 24th instant:— about 35 years of age, Ti feet 7 or 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair short whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, supposed partially bald ; dressed in dark coat, light vest and trousers, and black round crowned felt hat, carried a light coloured walking stick, with T shaped handle. Stated he had served in the Army in India, Canada, & c., bis practice is to call upon physicians or surgeons, from whom he obtains a prescription for liver complaint, contracted ( as he states) in India, he then During the night of 27th instant, a pawnshop, at Bradley. Between 6 and 8' 15 p. m. on 25th instant, a dwelling- house in Manchester was broken aud entered, and stolen therefrom :— a diamond Brooch and Earrings to match ; a single gold Bracelet, set with pearls; a gold Bracelet with springs ; a gold Bracelet, broken ; a pair of gold Bracelets, chain pattern ; a lady's gold watch Chain ; 2 pairs of diamond Earrings; a gold Ring, set with a diamond ; a gold Brooch aud Earring to match ; a pair of gold Earrings ; 2 odd gold Earrings, set with emeralds ; a broken gold Brooch, set with [ red stone; a gold Locket and Chain; a gold Brooch and Chain ; a single gold and pearl Earring, set with emeralds ; a pearl Necklet; 4 Links ; 2 gold earring Pendants, set with diamonds ; a gold Brooch and Locket ; a silver Earring, Brooch and Bracelet to match ; and a gold keeper Ring, marked ' N. S.' £ 5 reward will be paid by the owter of the property for its recovery, and the apprehension of the offender or offenders, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen on 24th instant, from Hartshorn- street, Bilston : 2 gold lever Watches ; a double link gold Neck Chain attached to both Watch s ; a Ham 201b. weight; a black cloth frock Coat, pockets behind, one inside left breast, trousers anl vest to match; a black cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets en hips, one inside left breast, ticket pocket right side; a light- coloured summer Overcoat, pockets on hips, one inside left breast; and about 30s. worth of old Penny Pieces. Information to Chief Superintendent Lougden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 20. Stolen on 20th instant, at Wellington :— 2 white wool Antimacassars ; 1 coloured wool Antimacassar, two dark blue stripes, aud one pale stripe down middle, and fastened together with yellow wool; 1 brown mixture dress Piece, about 30 yards, home spun ; 2 bottles of Claret, and 2 bottles of Port, corks in the bottles marked ' James Clegg Smith.' Information to Chief Superintendent I vine, Wellington, Salop. — Bow- street, April 23. During the night of 19th instant, the house of the Rev. H. Fox, Strangways, rector of Silverton, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein :— a Kettle- stand ; a Mustard- pot ; 4 Salt Spoons ; a Soup Ladle ; a Mustard Spoon ; a Top of Mustard- pot; a Toast Rack; a pair of Sugar Tongs ; i Sugar Ladles; 2 Candlesticks, square bottoms, about 9 iuches high, all silver and marked with crest, either Fox or Hand and Dagger. Suspicion attaches to three men who got out of the U|)- train at Silverton Station about 8 p. m., having takenvtheir tickets at St, David's, Exeter. — lst, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, Bandy hair, clean shaved, two or three days growth of sandy beard, lost several teeth, bald on the top of head, very sharp nose, snuff- coloured overcoat, and hard flat crown hat. 2nd, from 30 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and stoutish build ; dressed in overcoat, clean shaved, large nose, hard- looking features, felt hat, flat crown, and has the appearance of a North Country man. 3rd, of Jewish appearance, about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and round poll hard hat. This mau carried a black leather Bag ( which appeared to be heavy) on his leaving the Silverton Station. Information to Mr. Superintendent Collins, Devon Consta- bulary, Gullompton.— Bow- street, April 23. horse and cattle stealing. The brown nag Mare, reported as being stolen from a field at Kingswinford, and advertised is Police Gazette of 23rd it sunt, has been found at Godsall, and returned to owner.— Bow- street, April 30. Absconded from Wansford, near Peterboro', on 24th instant, charged with stealing a Horse from the Cross Keys Hotel, St. Neots ( Horse recovered) :— ARTHUR HOPKINS YOUNG, alias HOPPY, of Earitli, Hunts, stableman, about 21 yrs. of age, but looks older, 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins. high, weighs about 8 stones, dark whiskers, large mouth, front teeth considerably separated from each other, which he shows very much when laughing, and is a shuffling walker ; dressed in a cloth hat, a very small blue and white necktie, tied in a sailor's knot, no collar, dark cloth coat, about the length of a jacket, cloth trousers with a stripe in them, lijjht thin boots much worn, believed to have elastic sides. Is in the habit of attending fairs and markets as a horse- dealer's cad. Has worked for Mr. Benton, of Earith; Mr. Rose, of God- manchester; aud Mr. Farr, of Ely, horse- dealers. Is in the habit of talking very much of Mr. Beutou. Information to Mr. Superintendent Capping, Police Station, St. Neots, Hunt- ingdonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Between 8 p. m. on 24th and 6 p m. on 25th instant,, a Lamb was slaughtered in a field iu the Biddewcote Lanes, Fazeley; the property of Mr. John Robotham ; the hind quarters and shoulders were taken away, the entrails, head, skin and remaining portion of carcase left iu field. Informa- tion to Inspector McCrea, or to Police Constable Betts, Fazeley.— Bow- street, April 28. Stolen at Aldwark, during the night of 21st instant ; a dark brown hack Horse, four years old, about 15 hands 3 inches high, switch tail, is in fair good working condition, and rather large feet. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, or to Inspector Wright, Police Station, Easingwold.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen ou 21st instant, from Grove Green Lane, Leytonstone :— a grey Russian entire Pony, 12 hauds high, aged, hog mane, long tail, saddlemarked ; by two men, who were driving a small brown horse, and light cart, and had the appearance of costermongers. Information to the Director, C. I. D. Great Scotland Yard, &. W .— Metropolitan Police, April 26, I Stolen on or about the 14th instant, from Freddfawr 30 P O L I C E GAZETTE. April 19 farm, Cemmes, the property of Mr. E. Breese 2 chestnut entire Horses, one 1 year old, about 12 hands high, the other 2 years old, white blaze down face, about 12 hands high ; and 1 iron grey Filly, 3 years old, about 14 hands high, she has a lump on one of forelegs above the fetlock, from being fastened in a wire fence. Information to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to P. C. Humphreys, Cemmes, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 26. JAMES BUDGE, the convict license- holder charged with stealing sixty fat Sheep from Ross on 5th March, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 10th March last and subsequent dates, has been apprehended at Colwall, near Malvern, and is now in custody and remanded at Ross. The other man wanted and advertised with Rudge is still at. large. Information to Mr. Superintendent Smith, Ross, Hereford- shire.— Bow- stree', April 26. Absconded from Knowstone, Devon, on 13th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing an Ass, Cart, and Harness, also a pair of Boots ( all recovered) :— WILLIAM PERKINS, a shoemaker, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, crippled in right leg, sole and heel of right boot 3 inches thick, cannot walk without crutch or stick ; dressed in dark grey cloth coat, recently fresh braided round the cuffs with black braid, brown cloth vest with black alpaca sleeves, dark • cloth trousers, new black round poll hat, and lace- up boots. Supposed gone to South Wales. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 26. . Stolen from Newnham Baston, Chulinleigh, Devon, on 21st February last:— a roan coloured Mare, aged, about 16 bands high, white streak down face, white legs, little lame in one of hind legs. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wood, Devon Constabulary. South Molton.— Bow- st,., April 23. Absconded from Knowstone, on 13th inst., charged with stealing an Ass, Cart, & c„ recovered :— a shoemaker, about 20 yrs. of age, about 5 feet ins. high, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, crippled in right leg, sole and heel of right boot 3 inches thick, and cannot walk without crutch or stick; dressed in dark grey cloth coat, recently braided round the cuffs, with black braid, brown cloth vest, with black alpaca sleeves, dark cloth trousers, new black round poll hat, and lace- up boots ; supposed gone to South Wales. Stolen between 11th and 14th ultimo, from Leyton Marshes, Ley ton :— a black Horse, 13j hands, star on fore- head and near feet white short tail. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Puwe, April 23. Stolen between 18th and 20th instant, from a field in Stamford five lamb Hogs, in good condition, each having a faint red paint mark on the back ; the property of Mr. Benj. Frisby. £ 4 reward for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Head Constable Ward, Stamford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., April 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. EDWARD SANDERS, advertised in Police Gazette of 31st ultimo, charged with stealing Corn, at Culmstock, Devon, has been apprehended at Tauuton, and since convicted of the offence. The men ORCHARD and STILES, have not yet been apprehended.— Bow- street, April 30. Absconded from Tittleshall, Norfolk, on or about 12th instant, charged on warraut with embezzlement:— THOMAS FRANKLING, hurdle maker, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and hair, whiskers round the chin, has lost some of bis front teeth, which affects his speech when talking. Has been in America. He is accompanied by liis wife and three small children, and is supposed to have gone into some part of Yorkshire, most likely Middlesborough. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ward, Docking, King's Lynn, who holds a. warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 30. Description of THOMAS DEAKIN, a tramping rag and bone collector, charged with stealing a sheep skin, recovered, on- 23rd instant:— he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers, which meet under the chin, thin built; dressed in an old black cloth top coat, which is turning brown, short drab slop underneath, cord trousers, supposed soft felt black billy bat; he carries a bag for the purpose of collecting rags and bones. Information to Inspector Ward, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 30. ' Stolen between 12 midnight 26th and 7.30 a. m. 27th instant, at Harborne :—£ 14 iu Gold, £ 1 5s. in Silver, including a Crown Piece, a black cloth single breasted Jacket, pocket on each hip. and one iuside left breast, black lining, r early new, aud a Post, Office Savings Bank Deposit Book, with the name ' Edward Taylor' theiein. By a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, freckled face, dark hair and eyes, no beaul or" moustache, medium build ; dressed iu black cloth suit, hard felt hat, elastic- side boots, and- ooloured necktie, may seek employment at cab or omuibus yards, or stables. Information to Mr. Superintendent Whitehurst, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or to Sergeart Kavanagh, Harborne, near Birmingham. .— Bow- street, April 30. Stolen at Buckden, Hunts, early on the morning of 21st instant :— a large size silver hunting Watch, engine turned cases, maker James Kirby, St. Neots. No. 7527, or 7537; also a silver Albert Chain, with a Lion Shilling attached. By a man who had lodged in the house, about 19 years of age, , r> feet 6 or 7 inches high, thiu, fair complexion, aud light hair ; dressed iu mixed tweed clothes, carrying an overcoat, he had the appearance of a labourer, stated that ne was searching for work, and that he belonged to Worksop, left Buckden between 6 and 7 a. m. going in the direction of Peterborough. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Coppinger, Police Station, St. Neots, Huntingdonshire.— Bow- street, April 30. Description of ISAAC AYRES, a gunner. 10th Battery, 12th Brigade, Royal Artillery, and MARY CURTIS, wanted at Weymouth, for stealing a gold Ring, containing hair ; a gold Seal, forget- me- not engraved ou it ; a pair gold Ear- drops ; a pair gold Ear- rings ; a silver shawl Pin ; a silver Thimble ; a pair Wellington Boots ; a pair side- spring Boots ( recovered) ; and about 8s. in Money Isaac Ayres, 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, a crown and swords on left forearm, a native of St. Michael's, near Coventry ; dressed in uniform ; Mary Curtis, about 19 years of age, light ha; r, fair complexion ; dressed in light dress, trimmed witb silk, light waterproof, a native of Crewkerne, Somerset; has a female child with her, about 2 months old - f left by 12' 20 train for Waterloo, ou 26th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Vickery, Weymouth, Dorsetshire. — Bow- street, April 28. , » V A Musical Box was stolen on 26th instant, from a public house in Kidderminster, by a man of the following description :— about 5 feet 10 inches high, 35 years of age, had the appearance of a bricklayer or stonemason ; was wearing a long grey coat, and a slop underneath, and a hard black hat. The box plays 7 tunes ( one being out of order) viz. :— Remember Me, Highland Mary, Beautiful Star, Home Sweet Home, Last Rose of Summer, Silver Threads among the Gold, and Gipseys Warning. Information to. the Chief Constable's Office, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 28. Absconded from Hastings, on 24th inst., charged on warrant with stealing a quantity of Carpet, & c. ( recovered) :— WM. SPICE, 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, pale face, short light brown hair, parted in the centre, full eyes, large nose, and walks erecty dressed in short black cloth jacket and vest, light trousers, and grey soft round hat; has worked as an upholsterer's porter. Information to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, or at the Police Office, Saint Leonards- on- Sea, Sussex.— Bow- st., April 28. Absconded on 19th instant, charged with stealing Money of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards :— 1st, Colour- Sergeant WILLIAM SIMPSON, 29 years of age, 6 feet high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, native of Kirklington, Southwell, Notts. ; dressed in regimentals. 2nd, Sergeant JAMES ROBERTSON, 27 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in regimentals, native of Moy, Inverness. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 28, Stolen on 12th instant at Peterboro':— a pair of Boots, a milk Can, a dripping Tin, a Colander, a flat Iron, an iron Ringstaud, a linsey Dress, and a Marden Apron.
