Kotice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending tho same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *** " Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gircn, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offenco charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Iietters addressed to the Editor nmtSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and wf Absentees and^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on " War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state cleaTly:—( 1) The amount of tie reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, Bigned by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any sipectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. » It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Charged on warrant with forgery, at Chester: — WILLIAM HENRY SMITH, agent to a money lender, 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair, light moustache, lias a deformed shoulder, - which gives him the appearance of having a short neck • dresses - well, a native of the West of England. Infor- mation to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, April 21. Absconded on 8th instant, charged with forgery:— LEONARD BRISLEY, 20 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet !) inches high, slight build, light complexion and hair, small light - whiskers ( inclined to sandy) chin and upper lip clean shaved ; dressed in black frock overcoat, black walking coat under, light tweed vest and trousers, side- spring boots ( nearly new), and a soft quilted cloth hat, brown and drab mixture; carrying a new light mackintosh, and a black leather port- manteau, studded with brass nails, and place on top for insertion of name and address. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W Bow- street, April 19. BurGLARY AnD HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen at Bray on 19th instant :— a London and County Bank Book, about 20 Half Sovereigns, 200 Farthings, a number of old thin Sixpences, a number of old Halfpence, and about £ 5 in Silver. Supposed by a tramp, about 45 y ears of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers of about a month's growth, and of stuttering speech ; dressed in old dark suit of clothes, and billycock hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead, Berks.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen by means of burglary on 19th instant, at Wey- bridge : a French Ormolu Clock, about 12 inches high, and inches wide, maker Raingeau, Paris ; a dark blue Overcoat, velvet collar; a dark tweed Mackintosh ; a twill si'k Umbrella; an opera Glass ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' S.'; a silver tea caddy Spoon ; a silver mustard Spoon ; and a small brown leather Bag. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, April 21. During the night of 15th instant, a dwelling house at Moseley, was broken and entered, and stolen therein :— a chocolate and drab ( Chipping Norton tweed) Coat and Vest, man's size, new, single breasted, pockets on hips, with flaps, a do. outside left breast, a do. inside right, and 2 game do. ; a pair of man's small size watertight Boots, with brass eyelets, and hooks, tips on toes and heels, no nails ; and about 6 or 7 Shillings in Silver and Bronze. The thief is no doubt is wearing the stolen Boots, having left an old pair behind Information to Mr. Superintendent Tyler, Kings Heath, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 21. During the n'ght of 16th instant the dwelling- house of Captain Boteler, at Taplow, Bucks, was burglariously broken and entered and stolen therein :— A small travelling Clock, with white face, supposed maker's name Mutton, Brighton. 2 gold Seals, crest— a lion's head. A small silver Snufl'- box. Ditto cameo Brooch. Ditto gold Locket. Ditto silver Pencil case. A common blue bead Necklace, And 2 rows of Roman Pearls. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Police Station Slough, Bucks,— Bow- street, April 19. A house at Chew Stoke was broken and entered during the night of 10th instant, and stolen therein :— 2 pairs of mixed cloth Trousers, partly made ; 1 black cloth medium size clerical Coat, partly made, minus one sleeve ; 1 blue serge Jacket, boy's size ; 1 grey Ulster, diagonal cloth, suitable for a youth ; 1 red mixed Jacket, boy's size ; 1 drab diagonal dust Coat, man's size, worsted facings, brass rings covered with same material for buttons ; 1 pair of elastic- side Boots man's size ; 1 pair of tailors Scissors ; 1 reel of black machine Twist, No. 16 ; 1 reel of light drab Twist, No. 18 ; 1 reel of white machine Thread. Information to Mr. Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol. — Bow- street, April 16. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person ' at Croxton Park Races, on 8th instant :— a gold lever Watch, plain back, engraved cn inside plate, ' Presented to Brother Henry Blackburn by the National Arms Lodge, Delph Saddleworth, for service rendered,' maker's name, Simmonds, St. Ann's Square, Manchester. £ 5 reward will be paid for information that will lead to the conviction of the thief and recovery of the Watch. Information to Mr. Superintendent Goodman, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen from the person at Stone Steeplechases, on 15th instant:— a single- case gold lever stop Watch, white dial, second hands, a gold albert link Chain, and large gold Seal, with eagle engraved thereon, attached ; a lady's gold English patent lever Watch, gold dial, steel fingers, maker's name Bells, Uttoxeter, No. not known, a thick gold albert Chain, and a large old- fashioned gold Seal, with dark and red stone, attached ; a silver patent lever double- cased Watch, No. 2014. Also stolen at the Railway Station, Stone, at 7 25 p. m. same date :— a new American Waltham silver lever Watch, broken at ring, flat glass, opens at back without a spring. Stolen from the person on the Great Eastern Railway, between Ipswich and Manningtree, on 8th instant :— an English silver lever Watch, No. 7316, plain back, capped, with a moment hand on face, maker Zachbeur, Mauningtree. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Atcham, on 10th instant :— a pair of corduroy Trousers, man's size, flap fronts, have been washed nearly white ; a white Slop ; a pair of old worsted Stockings, brown colour ; and a pair of eld lace- up Boots, have been meuded, nailed round the heel, toe capped, left boot has a patch on sole. Description of GEORGE ROBINS, alias COCK ROBIN, labourer, charged with stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, from Cheltenham, in January last, since recovered :— ho is about 33 years of age, 6 feet 2J inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and eyes ; generally dressed in cord trouseis, white slop, and black billy- cock hat, and was accompanied by a woman he calls ' Annie,' she is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, and dark hair. Absconded from High Wycombe, on loth instant ;— WILLIAM HAMELIN BAKER, charged with larceny, trade a gunsmith, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather stout figure, dark hair and eyes, dark complexion, round full face, clean shaved ; dressed iu ' ilack hard felt hat, and light grey tweed suit. Is fond, of talking about pigeon shooting matches, and has risided a considerable time in Brighton and Reading. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Collins, Borough Police, High Wycombe, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 21. Charged with stealing carpenter's Tools, at Coseley, on 6th instant:— a man, 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light sandy hair, large moustache, no whiskers, rather long face, fresh complexion, medium build; dressed in old dirty black jacket, dark vest with grey stripes, moleskin trousers, cap with peak of same material and button on top, lace- up boots, rather strong; by trade an underhand puddler or labourer. Absconded from Longton, on 15th instant, charged on warrant with embezzlement:— CHARLES EVANS, 19 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, £ rey eyes, slender build, prominent nose; a gas meter inspector ; dressed in blue cloth jacket, mixture trousers, lace- up boots, and hard black tommy hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent McWilliams, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen about 7.30 a. m. on 15th instant, at Stockport — a lady's dark tweed Ulster, double tippet, bone buttons, pockets at sides ; a lady's diab coloured Ulster, 3 plaits down each side of back, bone buttons to match, bottom button but one oft', buttons on cuffs, round collar, points on thoulder, has the name ' Chatterton Hillgate, Stockport,' under loop inside neck ; a lady's tweed plaid Ulster, has a small tear which has been patched by placing a piece over it inside, round collar, 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. April 19 bone buttons, all part worn ; a Shawl, recovered ; a man's white calico Shirt, iron- mould round shoulders, By a man who pledged the Shawl, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown and slight whiskers, down side of cheeks, stoutish bui: d ; dressed in dark brown overcoat, brown tweed trousers, light shoes, round hard felt hat, wears collar and tie, and of respectable appearance. Description of FREDERICK GRIFFIN, of Stonesfield| Oxon, labourer, charged with stealing about 9th instant, 0 cwt' of Potatoes:— about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers, or moustache, round face and blotched ; dressed in a black cloth jacket, with pockets at side, dark vest and trousers cap with fur rouud the edge ; plays a concertina in public- houses. Information to Mr. Superintendent Lakin, Chipping Norton, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 21. " Wanted, charged with stealing mason's Tools, at Upton Scudamore, Wilts, on 10th instant ( recovered): - a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light brown hair ( curly), little light whiskers round the face, round features, fair complexion, rather stout build ; dressed in old dark cloth coat, dirty cord trousers and vest, and grey cloth cap. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Pierce, Warminster, Wilts.— Bow- street, April 19. Stolen'at Great Woolstone, on 17th instant:- a dried pigs Cheek. By 2 tramps, one a tall man, about 30 years of age, dark hair ; dressed in dark clothes, and black soft billy- cock hat. The other a short man, about 30 years of age ; dressed iu dark clothes, and brown cap with tassel on top. One or both men are tattooed on wrist i with blue ink; and are supposed to have been in the Army or Navy, one Of thun carries a bundle in a blue handkerchief, they lodged at New port Pagnell, on the night of 16th instaut, and enquired the road to London, they have been traced to Dunstable, Beds, where they, called at a public- house and stated they were going to Luton, but no further trace could be ascertained, and it is supposed they have gone on to St. Albau's, Herts, on the ' London- road. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hedley, Police Office, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, April 19. Wanted on a Sheriff's warrant, charged with embezzling £ 25 :— THOMAS DICKSON, a vanman, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, ordinary make, bandy legs, sharp features, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, dark complexion, and speaks with Glasgow accent; dressed in checked tweed coat aud vest, brown cord trousers, and cloth cap, had on a Rob Roy tartan shirt, resided at 40, Cedar- street ; was last seen late on 13th instant. Inquire at seaports, and wire to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow.— Bow- street, April 19. Charged with stealing a Watch ( recovered), at Chesterton, ou 30th October. 1878:— JAMES BEECH, of 4, Pratt- street, Newcastle- under- Lyme, an engine tenter, 29 years . of age, about 5 feet 7 inches higb, light complexion, light brown hair, blue or grey eyes, medium build, married. Information to Sergeant Locker, Chesterton, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 19. Wanted, by warrant, for embezzlement of a large sum of Money HEPTON, L. to chief- clerk and cashier in the Waterworks Department of the Manchester Corporation, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, rather slender build, face a little blotched, light hair, straggling moustache, and longiah beard, has lost several upper front teeth, eyes weak aud wears spectacles, of gentlemanly appear- ance. Supposed to have gone to London, he will endeavour to leave the country. Information at the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, April 19. Description of a cab driver, a native of Preston, wanted at Bolton, charged with stealing on 9th instant, a black cloth Yest, a pair of black cloth Trousers, and a silver lever Watch, No. 15527, maker Thomas Yates, Preston, and has the name ' Richard Carr, Southport,' engraved thereon :— about 30 years of ago, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender made, light complexion, no whiskers, small tuft on chin, thin face, and addicted to drink ; dressed in the stolen trousers and vest, brown tweed shooting coat, and long shabby blue overcoat, such as are worn by cabmen. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- st., April 16. Description of WILLIAM SWEET, charged on a wan ant with embezzlement :— about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, has a lump on elbow of right arm, and when at work is left handed, used to look after horses and drive coal carts; dressed in pilot cloth monkey jacket, dark vost and trousers, and billycock hat, is a native of Castle Cary, Somerset. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Sheppard, Police Office, Wincan- ton, Somerset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— . Bow- street, April 16. Charged with larceny:— WILLIAM CHAPMAN, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, small eyes, squints, dark hair, medium figure, walks very erect; dressed in green plaid coat, raised seamed pocket on breast, mottle coloured cord trousers, raised seams. A tramping clothes peg maker, and buys old iron, & o., supposed to have an old pony with him, his a wife and two ehildred with him, generally travels in Sussex, and the borders of Surrey and Kent, and attends fairs, & c. Was iii the neighbourhood of Caterham, Surrey, on 10th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Berry, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bcw- stnet, April 16. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted at Tunbridge Wells, on warrant for obtaining by fake pretences, from the Releiving Officer, of the Tunbridge Union, a Coffii>, and an Order for the payment of Burial Fees :— HARRIET YARDLEY, about, 30 years of age, 5 ft. 3 inches high, broad face, very brown complexion, and pock- pitted ; she sells cut flowers iu the streets, and has a pedlar's certificate, has a child with her, her husband works at gas works, and sometimes as a navvy. Information to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, April 21. Description of HENRY GOBLE, alias MAY, charged on warrant with obtaining goods by false pretences :— about 32 yeats of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight figure, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache same colour, dark grey eyes, prominent forehead, slightly inkneed; dressed in dark trousers, brown overcoat, rather long, with velvet collar, high black hat, weais a watch chain from his waistcoat pocket with two lockets attached to it, ono of the lockets being larger than the other; native of Hove, draper's assistant; he has just been released from prison after under- going a term of imprisonment for stealing two ponies from a riding master at Hove, and he is supposed to have previously served a term of penal servitude. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 19. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Absconded on 17th instant,, charged with committing a violent assault at Poplar :— ANNIE DESMOND, a prostitute, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slight build, fair com- plexion, long features, pockmarked ; dressed in black jacket, trimmed with grey fur, mauve frock, black hat, white feather. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropoitan Police, April 21. Committed to H. M.
