The Names of Persons charged with' Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which* may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate at possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horse* for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6441 WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14, 1880. INFORMATIONS. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, at Cheltenham, between 7 p. m. and 9' 30 p. m. on 11th instant:— a silver lever open face Watch, No. 71199, maker John Howlett, Chelten- ham ; a gold Albert Chain, snake pattern ; 2 gold watch Keys, one with green stone one side, and black and white the other side, the other Key had * a green stone in one side ; a lady's gold dress Ring, set with pearls and turquoise ; a gold Necklet, snake pattern ; a small gold Maltese Cross ; and a child's coral Whistle with three small silver Bells. Supposed by a man about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, long Roman nose, long dark bushy whiskers ; dressed in a dark grey jacket, soft black billycock hat, and supposed dirty cotton cord trousers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Day, Constabulary Office, Cheltenham.— Bow- street, April 14. Stolen from a field at Bosbury, during the night of 5th instant:— a dark brown cob horse Pony, about 14 hands high, rising 5 years old, white bind feet, cut tail, and in food condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent Blunsdon, ' olice Office, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, April 12. Stolen at Stanton Dale, near Ashbourne, during the night of 1st instant ;— a red and white Stirk, in calf, and in fair condition ; and a barran Cow. The Cow has since been found on the highway near Ashbourne, and the Stirk has been traced in the direction of Derby, in the possession of a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 iuches high, dark complexion, long dark beard and whiskers, slight build ; dressed in dark clothes, large black soft billycock hat, and carried a dark overcoat on his arm. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Evans, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 12. Stolen on 31st ultimo :— a bay Mare, in foal, 14| hands, has been blistered inside near foreleg, in good condition. Supposed by two men, one 34 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed in long dark overcoat, tight- fitting cord trousers, rough hairy cap with peak ; tlie other cannot be described; appearance of horse copers, Were seen leading it iu Hanger lane, Ealing, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Middlesbrough on 10th instant, a new blue serge Jacket, three pockets outside ( two on laps and one on left breast), raised seams; and a pair of new light check tweed Trousers, not lined. By WILLIAM JOHNSON, a German tailor, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, slightly pockpitted, da- k whiskers down sides of face, rather slender figure, and smart appearance ; dressed in a plain blue cloth coat, bound edges, dark trousers and vest, and black hard felt hat. He is accompanied by a little girl about 5 years old. Information to Head Constable Saggerson, Detective Department, Middlesbrough, who holds a warrant for liis apprehension.- Bow- street, April 14. Stolen on 24th ultimo, at East Worthing :— a quantity of Portuguese Lace, consisting of pieces of various widths, and about 15 yards long ; also pieces of Edging and Insertion ; 4 Portuguese Handkerchiefs, two are antique and extra large size; and 1 lace, 1 honiton, and 1 valencienes Handkerchiefs. Supposed by a-, woman, between 40 and 50 year.-. of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, swarthy complexion, black hair; dressed in dark stuff dress, brown hat, and grey waterproof jacket, respectable appearance. Had been employed several weeks as nurse. Information to Mr. Superintendent Silvester, Police Station, Worthing, Sussex.— Bow- st., April 14. Description of HENRY ST. CLAIR, watted by warrant for stealing a Watch and Chain, on 10th instant:— about 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark curly hair and mous- tache, rather pale, high forehead, tattooed on the left arm, and walks very erect; dressed when last seen in a shabby black suit, a low felt hat, and a pair of Derby tie shoes, far worn ; said he was a comic singer. Information to Chief Superintendent Williams, Liverpool.— Bow- street, April 14. Absconded from Filey, on 30th ultimo, charged on warrant with larceny as bailee of a silver lever Watch ( watch recovered, sold) :— HENRY or HARRY DONNER, a farm labourer, has been a fisherman, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair and moustache, birth mark under right eye, stout figure ; dressed when absconded in old blue pilot jacket, blue guernsey, moleskin trousers, hard black felt hat, and strong lace- up boots; supposed a native of Lincolnshire. His parents are supposed to be now residing in Durham- street, Middlesbrough. Information to Mr. Superintendent Spence, North Riding Constabulary Office, Pickering, or to Inspeetor Dove, County Police Office, Falsgrave, Scarborough, who holds warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., April 14. Descridtion of JOHN PEARSON, drapers apprentice who absconded from Penrith, Cumberland, on 3rd instant' for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with embezzling £ 3 10s. :— he is a native of Temple Sowerby, Westmorland, 19 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender figure, dark hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, and has a habit of knitting his brows when spoken to; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, and low hard black felt hat. He is supposed to have gone into Yorkshire, where he will most likely seek employment at drapers shops. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, Cumberland, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, April 14. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Upper Ponden, Stan- bury, on 2nd instant :— a black cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, black cloth buttons ; a red and black silk Neckerchief ; half of a black silk Neckerchief; and a blue and white check bundle Handkerchief, which has been patched with the same material. Supposed by a man about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, hair turning grey, slight whiskers, speck over right eye; dressed in dirty velveteen coat, with two pockets at side, and an old black billycock bat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ireland, West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary, Keighley,— Bow- street, April 12. Stolen at 5' 45 a. m. on 10th instant, from the dwelling- house of Edward Lloyd, 56, Temple- street, Bilston ;— a pair of brown mixture cloth Trousers, and Vest to match ; a black cloth cord Vest; a lady's small silver Geneva Watch, gold figures, enamelled dial, and an imitation gold Guard, with a gilt lion Shilling fixed in a swivel attached. By a man, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rosy cheeks, small features, thick bottom lip, slender build, brown beard, no whiskers, light moustache; dressed in white moleskin trousers, black cloth jacket and vest, black hard hat, strong lace- up boots, small dark tie, paper collar, black and red plaid Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending tho Bame, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information Bhould be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be'prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ef Absentees and^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to* whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. Stolen from the person at Tanshelf Railway Station, on 8th instant :— a gold Lever Watch, No. 45860, gold dial, engine turned case, the name ' Wm. Stolen from the person in Brighton on 29th and 30th ultimo:— A gold open face Geneva Watch, white face, ' T. G lading' engraved inside, brequet spring, No. 2372. A thick gold verge Watch, with white dial and seconds hands. A gold lever Watch," maker's name Burrell, Woolwich. A silver lever Watch, open face, white dial, engine- turned case, maker, Germain, Brighton. A silver English lever Watch, white dial and seconds hands, maker's name supposed Rothwell. A silver Geneva Watch, glass cracked, No. 7800. A gold lever Watch, compensating balance. A small gold Geneva Watch, very flat, open face, engine turned back, very much worn, drilled in three holes. | A silver open- face Geneva Watch, maker's name on foot of dial plate in very small letters, ' Schoeffer Chaux des fonds.' A large anchor foreign gold Watch, old make, engraved back, plain dial, and minute hand. A gentleman's gold Geneva Watch, made by Goldsmiths' Alliance Company, Cornhill. A small gold Watch with figured back, maker Boxall, and a gold Albert Chain attached. A silver half hunter Watch, with blue enamel in centre of dial. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton.— Bow- street, April 12. . ___ Stolen between 4 p. m. 7th, and 7 a. m. 8th instant, at Bilston :— 1 pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, new, size 4, plain leather fronts ; 3 pairs women's elastic- side Boots, new, size 6, kid fronts, patent toe- caps, one pair has a blue mark round vamp ; a pair of men's light lace- up Boots, brass eye- lets, clump soles ; 4s. or 5s. worth of Coppers. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., April 9. During the night of 6th instant, the Booking Office, at Gililow Heath Railway Station, was broken into and stolen therein :— a Sixpenny- piece, and five- penny pieces in Coppers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hall, Tunstall, or to Sergeant Evans, Bradley Green, near Congleton, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, April 9. Stolen by means of burglary, from Shaw Rectory, during the night of 7th instant:— 14 table Spoons ; 1 dozen dessert Spoons ; 1 do. large Forks; 1 do. small Forks; 1 gravy Spoon ; 1 fish Slice ; 1 soup Ladle; 1 butter Knife ; 1 silver Tray ; 2 sauce Ladles ; 2 sugar Basins ; 3 egg Spoons ; 9 tea Spoons ; 4 salt Spoons ; 1 pair branch Candlesticks, fluted columns, old ; 1 small Cruet; 1 Teapot; 1 communion Cup, ' Given by Sir Thomas Dolman, 1640'; 1 Flagon ; 1 Plate ; 1 Inkstand ; all the above articles are silver ; 1 silver Horse from top of inkstand; 1 old cocoa- nut Cup, with silver cover, and inscription ' Hear all, Speak little, Understand well, Love to one, Friendship to few, Goodwill to all'; Cheque for £ 10 on Wimborne Bank, payable to bearer, dated 7th April, 1880, and signed ' A. Laurance Trotman'; about £ 10 in gold, and silver Money; an old Box, in oak from Lord Nelson's ship 1 Victory,' silver plate on top, bearing inscription ' Made from a plank severed by round shot at Battle of Trafalgar, 1805.' Some of the above articles are marked with a double crest— a Ducal Coronet and the Stern of a Ship, others with crest— a Boot and Spur. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bennett, Berks Constabulary, Newbury.— Bow- street, April 9. towards London. Had with them a dark brown horse, and light spring cart, painted dark green, picked out red. Infor- mation to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 7. Stolen during the night of 29th ultimo, from Stewarts Lane, Battersea :— a bay Russian gelding Pony, 13 hands high, rough coat, cow- hocked, in good condition ; a dog- cart, painted green, picked out with blue, patent axle ; also a set of silver mounted Harness. Supposed by a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, beard and moustache ; dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, soft black billy- cock hat, sometimes wears a light mackintosh, has friends residing at Lover, and Redlynch, near Salisbury, likely to visit horse fairs, and markets. Information to the Director C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W. — Metropolitan Police, April 5. Charged on warrant with breaking and entering an office s and stealing therefrom, a Revolver and other articles e ( recovered), and also for firing two shots from the revolver at g a police constable. Four men concerned in the above ^ robbery were apprehended on 2nd instant:— : FREDERICK WILLIAM WILSON, ship's steward, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair j I and moustache ; dressed in a blue serge suit, and cheese- cutter cap. All expenses paid. Information to Chief Constable Cook, i Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 7. ; Stolen between 6 and 10 p. m. on 30th ultimo, at Denton, near Gravesend, Kenta gent's plain double- case gold lever ] Watch, Turkish dial; a lady's gold Geneva ditto, No. 32328, plain gold Chain attached; five £ 1U0 Bank of England Notes, , Nos. 46453, 46455, 46954, 46956, and one number not known; seven £ 20 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 10863,10864,10865, 10866, 10867, 10868, 10869 ; three £ 10 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 189C0, 18901, 18902 ; five £ 20 Egyptian Bon^ s ; a £ 100 ditto, unified and preference stock 6 per c.; five £ 20 Gravesend Water Shares ; £ 160 in Gold ; and a London and County Bank Book. Stolen from a cow shed at Ford, Onecot, near Leek, during the night of 6th instant:— a brindled coloured Cow, with black nose, 8 years old, and rather straight horns, in low condition, the property of Mrs. Leese. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Dobson, Longnor, near Burton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 14. Stolen from Leigh, Surrey, during the night of 12th instant:— a dark brown cart Horse, 4 years old, 16 hands ' high, with long mane and tail; a light spring Cart, painted • blue, ' Jesse Lucas, Leigh, Surrey' thereon ; and a set of brass mounted Harness. By two men, one about 35 years of ^ age, stout build ; dressed in a grey coat, and black wide- awake , hat; the other cannot be described ; were traced to Sutton with the Horse and Cart, going towards London. Stolen on 6th instant, between 6 a. m. and 7 p. m., from a room at the New Inn Tap, Eastbourne : a nearly new ir of greyish brown mixture tweed Trousers, without mings, fly front, cross pockets, bell bottoms, tight knees, lap seams at sides, the brace buttons are ordinary sized plain bright metal ones, the fly buttons are small bright metal ones with name ' Easter, Eastbourne' on them. Supposed by a plasterer, about 21 years of age, D feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, birth marks or red warts on right side cf forehead and nose, light brown hair, very slight moustache, medium figure, has friends residing at Tunbridge Wells; dressed in hard felt hat, blue cloth coat, niixtui e trousers, and lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Newnham, Eastbourne, East Sussex Constabulary.— Bow- st., April 12. Stolen from a gentleman, at Altrincham, on 6th ins. : three gold lev « r Watches, Nos. 70741, cream dial, engraved bezzle, centre seconds, engine turned case, No. 69203, full plate, expansion balance, No. 65915, do. do. do. do., one dial white the other cream, maker, T. Bussell, Liverpool, marked inside of outer case ' T. B.;' also two gold Albert Guards, one curb pattern, stamped ' 10- c.' the other fancy pattern stamped ' 9- c.' By ERNEST EGERTON, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, rather full eyes, and slight mo. ustache, dark brown liair rather curly ; dressed in black pot hat, black coat and vest, dark grey trousers, and blue tie with white spots; from bis conversation seems to know Manchester, Salford, and Birmingham wells. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Little, County Constabulary Office, Altrincham, Cheshire.— Bow street, April 9. Description of GEORGE OSBORNE, who absconded from Commondale, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on 31st. ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a black leather Purse, containing a £ 5 Bank ® f England, Note £ 4 10s, in Gold, and two Half- crowns, the property of Frederick Britton, where he had been lodging for about six weeks :— about 18 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, brown eyes, light brown hah', cut short, slender figure, walks a little in- kneed, he is a tramping labourer, and supposed a native of Luton, or Luton Dunstable, in Bedfordshire, where bis father resides, and is a wheelwright, and army pensioner ; dressed when he absconded in dark grey jacket, two vents behind, old moleskin vest, with new calico back, new brown printed cord trousers, dark fur cap, ties at top with strings, and a pair of clogs, narrow at toes. Information to Mr. Superintendent Clarkson, Constabulary Office, Guisborough, N. B. Yorkshire— Bow- street, April 9. Stolen from a cottage near West Felton, about 4 p. m. on 3rd instant:— a silver Geneva Watch, No. 355723, by a man 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in a blue serge slop, a white slop underneath, and a cap, had the appearance of a seaman. Supposed to have been convicted at the Quarter Sessions at Shrewsbury, on 5th January last, on two charges obtaining money under false pretences, and sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonmeut, he then gave his name GEORGE FAULKNER, of Boston, Lincolnshire, a sailor by trade, and dressed as such, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high,, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes,, full visage, very small whiskers, scarcely visible, birtli mark on top of right foot. He was traced to Llangollen, which place he left on the morning of 5th, for Bala. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Shropshire.— Bow street, April 9. Charged with stealing two pairs of Boots, from Mouseley Hole, on 6 th instant a girl about 17 years of age, 4 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, slender build, and freckled face; dressed in black scarf shawl, black straw hat, black dress, and lacc- up boots. Information fo Chief Super- intendent Longden, Bilston, or to Sergeant Wright, New Cross, near Wolverhampton.— Bow- street, April 9. Charged with stealing a gold Watch, recovered, at Dart- ford, on 5th instant:— a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, pale blotchy face, few whiskers on chin ; dressed in brown overcoat, black felt bard hat, with mourning band, black trousers and vest, black tie, with silver ring upon it, white wrapper, with blue spots, round neck. Represented he was a clerk upon the South Eastern Railway, at Dartford. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, April 9. Stolen on 31st ultimo, from the dwelling house, of E. Wells, Esq., Wallingford :— a plain silver Mustard- pot, boat shape ; a silver Sugar- sifter ; a Cigar- case, silver top ; a Paper- knife, silver blade, and ivory handle ; a Magnifying- glass, bone handle ; a Florentine marble Letter- weight, white flower oh top. Supposed by a bricklayer, about 40 years of age, 5 feet .7 inchesf high; dressed in dirty brown or tweed suit, lace- up boots, and soft Dudley hat. Information to Inspector Butcher, Police Station, Wallingford, Berks. -^ Bow- street, April 5. Stolen at Hampworth, on the night of 1st instant:-— a small pony Cart, painted dark green, with white lines round the panels, shafts nearly new, 3 feet 6 inches from wheel to wheel. Supposed by a man, a brickmaker, who has been living at Battersea, from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet lo or 11 inches high ; dressed iu light coloured mackintosh, and soft billycock hat. Was seen in the neighbourhood of Hampworth, on 1st instant, had in his possession a grey pony with harness, and covered with a large sack or bag. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Stephens, Fisherton, Salisbury, Wiltshire.— Bow- street April 5. Stolen in Blackburn, during March :— On 3rd, a silver lever Watch, white dial, seconds finger, No. 49552, had attached a brass albert Guard. By a woman, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, light hair, long thin face; dressed in dark shawl, light skirt, and boots. Is a prostitute. Between 3rd and 5th, a man's corduroy Jacket, three out- side pockets and one inside left breast, dark plaid lining, white buttons ; and 3 Chintz pocket Handkerchiefs. By a man who pledged the Jacket at Mr. John Holt's pawnshop, Whalley Banks, and gave the name of JOHN COOK, Cleaver- street ( which is fake), about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7^ or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers ; dresped in a suit of corduroy, and dark cap. On 31st, a grey, black, and peach broken plaid Shawl, about half worn. Supposed by a man who was hawking umbrellas, and bad a buss with him, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet C inches high; dressed in old dark clothes, dark billy- cock, and old shoes. Information to Chief Constable Shoubridge, Police Office, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen during the night of 28th ultimo, from a stable at Minton, Salop :- a double- breasted plaid Jacket, pockets on hips each side, one inside left breast, black buttons. By a man, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark whiskers round face, chin shaved clean ; dressed in dark clothes, hard felt hat, with elastic on it. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop. —. Description of JOHN CORNWALL BOLDERO, charged on warrant with obtaining £ 36, by false pretences :— he is 57 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, turning grey, stout build, full face, flat footed, lame left leg, stoops when walking ; his wife's mother resides at Barrow, in Lincolnshire. Charged with obtaining, on 30th ultimo, in St. Alban's a Sovereign, by stating that the Rector of the Abbey had relieved him :— a man, who stated he was an artist, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, rather full face, auburn hair and moustache, little or no whiskers ; of good address ; dressed in fashionable black coat, light trousers, black felt hat ; wearing spectacles at the time. Carried a roll with an elastic band round it, which had the appearance of a sketch book, and he was wearing a kid glove on his left hand. It is supposed he puts on the spectacles when at or near the place he intends to call. He was seen in company with a man, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slight build, light hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a dark tweed coat and trousers, and black deerstalker hat. He is addicted to drink, and is very loud and coaise in his conversation ; be has a boy with him about 16 years of age, who, he says, is his son. The lad has lost all the fingers of his right hand at the second joint. They left Shepton Mallet on Good Friday morning.
