CONTAINING The substance of aU Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, at accurate at possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6430 FRIDAY, MARCH 19, 1880. Notice.— It is requested that R11 communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposod offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications hi reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and swro- n to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As 110 charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressod to tho Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, vxi& « f Absentees and^ Dcserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tie reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of tlie " Police Gazette " no longer necessary. A " old hunting Watch, with initials outside ' W. W. H., ° No. 1912,' maker McKay, Edinboro'. £ 10 reward. A gold Watch with crest ( an antelope's head), maker McDowall, Jermyn- street, London. £ 15 reward. A gold lever demi- hunter Watch, No. 04180, maker Frodsham, Strand, London. £ 5 reward. The above rewards will be given on the apprehension of the • offender or offenders and recovery of the Watches. Stolen at Loughborough Steeple Chases, on 12th inst. :— a very large thick keyless gold Watch, by F. D. Idrac Leroy, Paris, face half open, blue enamel figures. A silver yevge Watch, rather small, number 9,305, marked on inside case' 727.' A silver lever Watch, by a man 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion ; dressed in dark brown overcoat, top hat, and of slender make. An old black leather Purse, with three compartments, lined with yellow coloured wash- leather, and brass clasp ; containing £ 1 os. ( id. consisting of Half- crowns, Florins, Shillings, and Vour Threepenny pieces. A gold keyless lever stop Watch, entre seconds, makers name Russel and Sons, Liverpool, number under name 58,879, and gold Chain ; value £' 50. £ 20 reward will be paid by the owner of this watch, on recovery of the same, aud conviction of the thief or thieves. An old silver lever Watch, with silver and gold dial, supposed No. 587, engraved inside with name of Knight.' Also an English lever Watch, single case, engraved on the inside works ' Henry Wilde.' Stolen at Stone, during the night of lltli instant:— a Watch ( recovered), and a long silver Guard, with watch Key attached. By FANNY HAINES, a prostitute, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light complexion and hair, turning grey, stout build, and full red face ; dressed in long dark cloth mixture ulster, black dress, black straw hat, trimmed with black velvet, black lace fall, and blue ribbon, tied in a bow round her neck. She has lately lived at 3, Chapel- street, Stafford, and also at Burton- on- Trent. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, at Stafford, on 13th instant :— a dark and grey mixture corded Jacket ( sometimes called a Bedford cord), pocket,. ou liips with flaps, one inside left breast, the cuffs are bound with black braid ; a single- breasted black cloth Vest with rolled collar, and a pocket beneath left breast ; an old- fashioned silver verge Watch and a Sovereign. The Watch was,, ^ dged in Wolverhampton at 7.30 on the date of offence by a man 30 years of age, 5 ft. 4 or 5 inches high, pockpitted, large nose, sallow and dissipated looking, and sandy moustache ; dressed in dark jacket and vest, cord trousers, old elastic side boots, red silk neckerchief and billycock hat or cap. Information to Deputy Chief Con- stable Oswell, Stafford.— Bow- street March 19. During the night of 17th instant the residence of Col. Paske, at Stoke, near Guildford,, was broken into, and stolen therein :— a gold hunting Watch and Chain, maker James, Gent, Islington, No. 1588; a small yellow silk Bag, containing £. 9 in . Gold, and about £ 2 in Silver; a small leather Purse, containing £ 4 in Gold, jad 10s. in Silver ; a gold/ Pen and Pencil- case ; a white ivory- handled Knife, with two blades ; a white ivory Pencil- case; a gold Neckfeta^ id Indian ornament, the necklet was on silken cord, from which hung about 17 pendants, set in pur* gold ; a small Indian Bracelet, from which hung three silver ornaments, set in turquoise, and fastened with a silken thread ; a gold Seal, with crest— lion rampant, and initials ' G. P.' below engraved on cornelian stone; a gold Seal, with coat of arms engraved on blood- ' one ; a nugget of Gold ; a gold Rirg very old ; six Indian ' Israel' gold Coins; a quantity of unset Stones, comprising small turquoise, carbuncles, agates, & c. ; aud a black cloth Overcoat. Stolen at Bishops Caundle, Dorset, during the night of 15th instant:— 12 dessert Forks; 13 table Spoons ; 12 dessert Spoons ; 2 gravey Spoons ; 2 sauce Ladles ; 2 sugar Basons and 1 Spoon; 2 cream Jugs; 10 salt Sellais and S Spoons; 13 table Forks ; 3 Salvers ; 1 fish Slice and 1 Fork ; 1 Tea- pot ; 1 coffee Pot; 1 mustard Pot ; 1 soup Ladle; 2 small silver Patterns; 35 silver handled table Knives; 2 small do., all silver and Hall marked, with the crest— a wolf's head or running wolf, except the mustard Pot; pierced sugar Basin and Spoon. A reward of £ 40 to be paid on the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the value recovered, and the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Florance, Police Station, Sherborne, Dorset.— Bow- street, March 19. • " V On the night of 21st ultimo, the office of the Manure. Works, in Carnonstie. Barry, was broken into, and stolen therein:— 9 £ 1 Notes, of the North of Scotland Banking Company, one recovered; 10s. 3d. in Silver and Bronze Money; 15s. worth of penny and half- penny Pastage Stamps, the former being of the new issue ; and ." is. worth of receipt Stamps. By ROBERT ALEXANDER KINNEAR, labourer, native of Buckhaven, Fifeshire, who was discharged from said works about last new year, 26 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 10 inches high, black hair, dark bushy whiskers and moustache, broken nose, and set. to one side, scar on fore- head, ' R. A. Kinnear' tattooed on one arm, smart appearance; dressed iu grey tweed coat, dark tweed' trousers and vest, broad brimmed soft black felt hat, Lome shoes, and white muffler. Was employed a few years ago at a chemical work at Birkenhead, and subsequently joined the Liverpool Police Force, in which he remained about 6 months, but it is said that while in that force he stole a watch, for which he was convicted and imprisoned. Was in the Army under the naine of Robert Black, and may seek work at manure works, fish- curers, or such like places. Information to the Chief Con- stable of Forfarshire, Forfar.— Bow- street, March 17. Stolen between 6.30 p. m. and 8 p-. m. on 13th instant, at Egremont: two oval- shaped silver Lockets, with the initials ' O. T.' engraved on one, and ' L. T.' on the other, had short silver chains attached ; and a pair of silver Ear- tings. Sup- posed by two men : 1st, about 50 years of age-; dressed iu shabby black cloth clothes and tall hat. 2nd, iVom 25 to 3<> years y age; dressed in dark tweed elotK-. a hard round felt hat. Between 12' 45 p. m. and 2 p. m. on 13th instant, a dwelliag house was broken into ( by taking out a pane of glass in the parlour window) at Hollows Hill, Belbroughton, and stolen therein:— a small English lever Watch, ' Sarah Mason' engraved on back of works ; a jet Brooch, edged with imitation gold, on centre of jet a boy's figure in kneeling position a grey cloth sleeve Vest, lined with drab lining ; a light brown cloth corded Vest ; a pair of dark brown woollen cord Trousers, flap fronts, lined with swan's down ; an Indian silk muffler Handkerchief, brown centre and red border ; a red and white spotted silk pocket Handkerchief, a white and brown muslin Dress, with two flounces, plain bodice and sleeves. By a begging tramp, about So years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, stout build, full round face, dark brown hair and whiskers; dressed in dark blue pilot jacket, much worn, dirty corduroy trousers, Scotch cap with cloth peak, strong boots, patched on sides. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wheeler, Police Office, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 17-. During the night of 11th instant, a house was entered and stolen therein ;— 3 black cloth Jackets, one braided back, front and cuffs ; one diagonal cloth, very little trimming, and one plain cloth, with four pieces of fringe at the back, tabs at side in imitation of pockets ; 3 silver Table Spoons, a dessert Ditto, silver Sugar Tongs, antique ( shape of scissors) ; a silver butter Knife ; a silver Tea Spoon ; plated Sugar Tongs ; a ditto Toast Rack ; a fancy plated Spoon; 2 small fancy Spoons ; a plated 5- hole Cruetstand ; an old fashioned plated Caddy Spoon ; 0 plated desert Forks ; 5 plated Table Fi rks ; and a plated pickle Fork with white bone handle. During the night of 12th instant, the parish church of Aldrington, Sussex, was broken into and six Surplices ( white linen) stolen— four men's sizes, two old, two new ; two boys' size, nearly new. Information to Mr. Superintendent Baldwin, Patcham, Chief Constable's Office,. Lewes, Sussex. — Bow- street, March 15. .. Stolen at Aston Clinton, on 10th instant:— an old silver pair- case Watch, maker Eentnor, London, No. 9246. By a mau, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 iuches high, brown hair, full face, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, proportionate figure; dressed in dark clothes, felt hat, or cloth cap ; has with him a pedlar's certificate, obtained at Abingdon in July, 18^ ® ; he hawks needles, buttons, & c., frequents low lodging- houses, travels the counties of Berks, Bucks, Beds, and Herts; he was traced to Hemel Hempstead, where he disposed of some of the stolen property. About. 2' 55 a. m. on 13th inat-. nt, tho office of Messrs. Scott and Harris, Star Japan Works, Bilston, wh entered ( by carefully removing the panes from the window), ' and stolen therein :- f- sixty penny Stamps, and one one- shilling Stamp ; a set of Drawing Instruments, including a brass diagram, and a buckhorn ditto, marked ' D. Morris' in mahogany or rosewood veneered case, lined with green baize, small obloilg brass plate on lid set in with claws, one of which is broken off; a 3 bladed pocket Knife, tortoise- shell handle, with small silver plate with name ' J. Hardy' engraved 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE March 19> thereon ; one door, three drawer and one clock Keys ; and a lead Whistle. An attempt was made by drilling to break open an iron safe. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 15. At a cottage situate off the Weston- road, near Stafford,, during the afternoon of 13th instant, and stolen:— a grey mixture tweed corded Jacket, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, the cuffs are bound with black braid ; a single breasted black cloth Vest, with rolled collar, a pocket beneath left breast; an old- fashioned silver Watch, supposed verge, number and name unknown ; and a Sovereign. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford. — Bow- street, March 15. During the night of llth nstant, a burglary was com- mitted at Testwood House, Tolton, and stolen therein :— a horses Hoof, shod and mounted in silver as an ink stand, with laurel leaf on top, engraved ' Sam Hall, shot on * * *' ( date unknown); a silver Stand, to hold scent bottles, square bottom, and round top ; a filagree plated Egg, to hold matches, and plated spoon affixed to bottom, gilt inside of egg. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent White, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst.— Bow- street, March 15. During the night of 9fh instant, a house at Iver was broken and entered and stolen therein :— A pair of silver Sugar Tongs. 3 ditto Tea Spoons. A Dessert Spoon. ( All marked with the crest of an oak tree), A silver Cigar Case, crest— a cock. A curve amber Cigar Tube. A gold signot Ring, crest of an oak tree. A ditto Pen and Pencil- case. About £ 50 or £ 60 in Gold, Silver and Notes— supposed 3 £ 5 and and 2 £ 10 Notes. A gold Ferrule from an umbrella. Also several blank Cheques on the London and County Bank, at Watford. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks, or to Inspector Sapwell, Iver, Bucks.— Bow- street, March 12. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Jkg grey r , anecl Mare, and Bridle, advertised in Police Gazette, on 17th instant, stolen from Preston, near Hull, has been recovered.— Bow- st., March 19. Stolen on the night of 4th instant, at Sticklepath, Sampford Courtenay, Devon :— a dark bay Mare, in foal, about 14 hands high, 8 years old, tail cut square, off pin ricked in ; supposed by a man, a native of Chagford, Devon, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, black curly hair, large dark whiskers, dark complexion, dark eyes ; dressed in dark cloth suit, jim crow hat, nailed lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hasted, N. Division, Devon Constabulary, Bow, or to Sergeant Furslow, North Tawton.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded on 5th instant, stealing a brown Mare, 6 yrs. old, rising- - 15 hands high, bad mane ; a set of black leather silver- plat id Harness, patent leather hansom pad ; a riding Saddle and Bridle; two Whips ; and a Scotch collie Dog, plain brass collar : BLEACH, a coachman 30 years 5 age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, light browsi hair and whiskers, and shaved on chin and lip; dressed in a light brown tweed suit; has been a soldier. Is well knowu at Tunbridge Wells and Brighton. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investiga- tions, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.- Bow- street, March 12. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen between 3 and 6 p. m. on 14th instant, at Neithrop, Banbury:— a pair of watertight shooting Boots, tag off one of the laces, one had several nailes out, rather heavily nailed. A tramp was seen on the premises, who appeared to be about 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in dark jacket, light coloured trousers, and hard felt hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Cope, County Police Station, Banbury, Oxon .- Bow- street, March 19. Stolen at Bnrslem, an 15th instant :— a black plaid Shawl a pair of black cloth Trousers ; a black cloth Vest; ta pair of elastic- side Boots, men's size, with black buttons up ' the front ; two dark winsey Skirts; a black Skirt; and Is. in silver. By ANNIE COTTON, a tramping hawker, 27* years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, brown hair, red face, and stout build ; dressed in black velvet bonnet, with red border, light plaid ulster, black dress, plaid neckerchief, white apron, and old elastic- side boots. Information to Chief Superintendent Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 19. Amended description of G. or J. CROSBY, alias FRED. GEORGE HANCOCK, FRANCIS TAYLOR, & c., clock and watch cleaner, charged at Kendal with stealing Watches, and advertised in Police Gazette 23rd July, 1879, and subsequent dates up to 28th January, 1880. Warrant issued. He is 40 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, grey eyes, rather fresh complexion, dark brown hair and very thin, bald, front part of head, large brown whiskers, no moustache, shaves chin, stiff build, rather long in bcdy, and short in the legs, broad flat feet, scar right side of neck and inside shin right leg, two on chest, ruptured right side, slight scar back of right hand, mole above left shoulder blade ; generally carries a black bag with him ; respectable appearance. Frequents public houses and hotels, and makes himself very free with people. Photo- graph will be sent on application. He is also wanted at Reading, Market Harboro', Nottingham, and Carlisle, for similar offences. Information to Chief Constable Wilkinson, Kendal, Westmoreland.— Bow- st., March 19. Charged with stealing £ 10, at Yateley :— ALFRED JOSEPH BECKAR, a Frenchman, who stated he was a teacher of music, and had served in the French army, of gentlemanly appearance and manners, about 25 years of age, blue eyes, light hair and moustache, slight figure, thin long face, about 5 feet 7} inches high, fair complexion, has small hands and feet; is generally dressed in a light brown suit, and occasionally in a dark brown tweed suit, low crowned hat, light boots, with blue cloth uppers, elastic sides, and black buttons, wore a gold breast pin with blue stone, a gold watch, with large gold chain, with long links of a peculiar pattern, having a locket attached containing dark hair, carries a blaek cane, mounted with silver, the design being the head of a Frenchwoman. Stayed at Dover during the months of December and Januaiy, and in London for two or three weeks in February. Information to the Deputy Chief Con- stable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot, who holds a warrant for his appreheasion.— Bow- street, March 17. Remanded at Talgarth until 19tli instant, charged with stealing Sheepskins ( recovered) WM. JONES, alias WM. WARNER, 24 years of a^ i, 5 feet 7 inches high, a hawker, pale face, and light brown hair ; and JAMES TRIPP, 26 years of ago., 5 feet 8 inches high, an American and sailor, of no fixed abode, black hair, and hazel eyes ; dressed in dark shabby suit, is in the habit of blacking his face and sings at public- houses. A third man wanted for the above robbery jointly with the above persons in custody ; he is a travelling tinker and umbrella mender, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate figure, dark brown hair mixed with grey, large sandy moustache, no whiskers, and of dirty appearance ; dressed in old black coat, dirty dark trousers, with patches on thighs— larger patch on the left thigh, old dark cap, turning up all round and tied on top of head ; may have a pedlar's certificate, is well known in North and South Wales: Information to Mr. Superintendent Evans, Crick- howell, Breconshire, or to Police Constable ( 30) Johns, Talgarth, Breconshirp.— Bow- street, March 17.
