Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed 1 offenders, or stolon property, inny bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending tho same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- ] hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that 1 an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, s of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any article in the 1 POLICE GAZETTE, all liCtters addressed to the Editor ^ mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. , The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from tho Army, and ef Absentees and^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded < on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in tho POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tte reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. , ( 3). The person by whom it will bo paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding Ibem. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Committed for trial at the next Dorset Assizes, for arson FRANCIS CONNOR, a tramp, states he is a native of Dublin, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, fair com- plexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, light brown whiskers, meeting under the chin, sandy beard, slight sandy moustache, and medium build ; dressed in old light brown coat, grey vest, dark mixture trousers, dark mixture cap, and old elastic- side boots. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Dorset and Spoon. Information to Mr. Superintendent Florance, Police Station, Sherborne, Dorset.— Bow- street, March 17. Between 12' 4op. m. and 2 p. m. on 13th instant, a dwelling house was broken into ( by taking out a pane of glass in tbe parlour window) at Hollows Hill, Belbroughton, and stolen therein:— a small English lever Watch, ' Sarah Mason' engraved on back of works ; a jet Brooch, edged with imitation gold, on centre of jet a boy's figure in kneeling position ; a grey cloth sleeve Vest, lined with drab lining ; a light brown cloth corded Vest; a pair of dark brown \ pollen cord Trousers, flap fronts, lined with swan's down ; an Indian silk muffler Handkerchief, brown centre and red border ; a red and white spotted silk pocket Handkerchief, a white and. brown muslin Dress, with two flounces, plain bodice and sleeves. By a begging tramp, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, stout build, full round face, dark brown hair and whiskers; dressed in dark blue pilot jacket, much worn, dirty corduroy trousers, Scotch cap with cloth peak, strong boots, patched on sides. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wheeler, Police Office, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 17. i During the night of 11th instant, a house was entered and stolen therein :— 3 black cloth Jackets, one braided back,, front and cuffs ; one diagonal cloth, very little trimming, and - one plain cloth, with four pieces of fringe at the back, tabs at side in imitation of pockets ; 3 silver Table Spoons, a dessert Ditto, silver Sugar Tongs, antique ( shape of scissors) ; a silver butter Knife ; a silver Tea Spoon ; plated Sugar Tongs ; a ditto Toast Rack; a fancy plated Spoon; 2. small fancy Spoons ; a plated 5- hole Cruetstand; an old fashioned plated « Caddy Spoon; 6 plated desert Forks ; 5 plated Table Forks; r and a plated pickle Fork with white bone handle. An old- fashioned gold Watch; and a gold Scarf Pin, with white stone iu centre. A large silver Watch, maker's name ' Coltanes, Folkestone, No. 1546,' a plain Chain attached. A gold Pin, representing a boy at leap- frog over a post. A silver Watch, with gold Chain, Guinea, and Half- guinea attached. Information to Mr. Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabu- lary, Ashford.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen at Stone, during the night of 11th instant:— a Watch ( recovered), and a long silver Guard, with watch i Key attached. By FANNY HAINES, a prostitute, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light complexion and hair, turning grey, stout build, and full red face ; dressed in long dark cloth mixture ulster, black dress, black straw hat, trimmed with black velvet, black lace fall, and blue ribbon, tied in a bow round her neck. She has lately lived at 3, Chapel- street, Stafford, and also at Burton- on- Trent. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen at Rugby Races, on 9th instant:— a gold lever demi hunter Watch, No. 01180, maker Frodsham, Strand. £ 5 reward will be given on apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the watch. Information to Mr. Superintendent Palmer, Rugby, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 12, Stolen on 6th instant, from the person, iu Preston :— a silver lever Watch, No. 1916, maker Yates, Preston ; £ 2 8s. in Money; and afseal skin Cap. Suspected of setting fire to several Ricks, at Baydon, on 6th instant :— a man 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, moustache, and whiskers meeting uuder the chin, smart appearance, slight build; dressed shabby- genteel, having on two brownish tweed coats, cotton Gord or moleskin trousers, turned up at the bottom of the legs, showing his white stockings, old heavy lace- up watertight or navvy boots, cut down round the ankle, black bowler hat, a native of Molton Yorks, and frequents racing stables, as a tout. On the night of 21st ultimo, the office of the Manure Works, in Carnonstie, Barry, was broken into, and stolen therein :— 9 £ 1 Notes, of the North of Scotland Banking roBBerY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen at the Bristol Race Course, on 11th and 12th instant : — A lady's gold Geneva Watch, engraved on outside case ' Fairy Watch,' with a cable Albert Guard attached. An old silver lever Watch, witii silver and gold dial, supposed No. 687, engraved inside with name of ' Israel Knight.' Also an English lever Watsh, single case, engraved on the inside works ' Henry Wilde.' Stolen at the Rugby Grand Military Steeple Chases, on 9th inBtant :— A rgold double bottom dome hunting Watch, silver dial, No. 8270, makers Brockbank and Atkins, London, Company, one recovered ; 10s. 3d. in Silver and Bronze Money; 15s. worth of penny and half- penny Pastage Stamps, the former being of the; new issue ; and 5a. worth of receipt Stamps. By ROBERT ALEXANDER KINNEAR, labourer, native of Buckhaven, Fifeshire, who was discharged from said works about last new year, 26 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 10 inches high, black hair, dark bushy whiskers and moustache, broken no3e, and set to one side, scar on fore- head, 1R. A. Kinnear' tattooed on one arm, smart appearance; dressed in grey tweed coat, dark tweed trousers and vest, broad brimmed soft black felt hat, Lorne shoes, and white muffler. Was employed a few years ago at a chemical work at Birkenhead, and subsequently joined the Liverpool Police Force, in which he remained about 6 months, but it is said that while in that force he stole a watch, for which he was convicted and imprisoned. Was in the Army under the name of Robert Black, and may seek work at manure works, fish- curers, or such like places. Information to the Chief Con- stable of Forfarshire, Forfar. - Bow- street, March 17. During the night of 12th instant, the parish cburcli of Aldringtoy, Sussex, was broken into and six fi£ rpll<! es ( white linen) stolen— four men's sizes, two old, two new ; two l) oys' size, nearly new. Information to Mr. Superintendent Baldwin, Patcham, Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, Sussex. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen at Aston Clinton, on 10th instant:— an old silver pair- case Watch, maker Rentnor, London, No. 9246. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, full face, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, proportionate figure ; dressed in dark clothes, felt hit, or cloth cap ; has with liim a pedlar's certificate, obtained at Abingdon in July, 1879 ; he hawks needles, buttons, & c., frequents low lodging- houses, travels the counties of Berks, Bucks, Beds, and Herts ; he was traced to Hemel Hempstead, where he disposed of some of the stolen property. Information to Mr. Superintendent Denson, Bucks Constabulary, Aylesbury, or to Inspector Andrews, Wendover, Tring, Bucks.— Bow- street, March 15. About. 2 55 a. m. on 13th instant, the office of Messrs. Scott and Harris, Star Japan Works, Bilston, was entered ( by carefully removing the panes from the window), and stolen therein :— sixty penny Stamps, and one one- shilling Stamp ; a set of Drawing Instruments, including a brass diagram, and a buckhorn ditto, marked ' D. Morris' in mahogany or rosewood veneered case, lined with green baize, small oblong brass plate on lid set in with claws, one of which is broken off; a 3- bladed pocket Knife, tortoise- shell handle, with small silver plate with name ' J. Hardy' engraved thereon ; one door, three drawer and one clock Keys ; and a lead Whistle. An attempt was made by drilling to break open an iron safe. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- strcet, March 15. Stolen between 6.30 p. m. and 8 p. m. on 13th instant, at Egremont;— two oval- shaped silver Lockets, with the initials ' O. T.' engraved on one, and ' L. T.' on the other, had short silver chains attached ; and a pair of silver Ear- rings. Sup- posed by two men ; 1st, about 50 years of age; dressed in shabby black cloth clothes and tall hat. 2nd, from 25 to 30 years of age; dressed in dark tweed clothes, and a hard round felt hat. Information to Chief Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 17. Stolen at Bishops Caundle, Dorset, during the night of 15th instant:— 12 dessert Forks; 13 table Spoons ; 12 dessert Spoous ; 2 gravey Spoons ; 2 sauce Ladles ; 2 sugar Basons and 1 Spoon ; 2 cream Jugs ; 10 salt Sellars and 8 Spoona; 13 table Forks ; 3 Salvers ; 1 fish Slice and 1 Fork ; 1 Tea- pot ; 1 coffee Pot; 1 mustard Pot ; 1 soup Ladle ; 2 small silver Patterns ; 35 silver handled tible ICnive3 ; 2 small do., all silver and Hall marked, with the crest— a wolf's head or running wolf, except the mustard Pot; pierced sugar Basin At a cottage situate off the Weston- road, near Stafford, during the afternoon of 13th instant, and stolen :— a grey mixture tweed corded Jacket, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, the cuffs are bound with black braid ; a single breasted black cloth Vest, with rolled collar, a pocket beneath left breast; an old- fashioned silver Watch, supposed verge, number and name unknown ; and a Sovereign. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford.— Bow- strect, March 15. During the night of 11th instant, a burglary was com- mitted at Testwood House, Tolton, and stolen therein :— a horses Hoof, shod aud mounted in silver as an ink stand, with laurel leaf on top, engraved ' Sam Hall, shot on * * *' ( date unknown); a silver Stand, to hold scent bottles, square bottom, and round top ; a filagree plated Egg, to hold matches, and plated spoon affixed to bottom, gilt inside of egg. During the night of 9th instant, a house at Iver was broken and entered and stolen therein :— A pair of silver Sugar Tongs. 3 ditto Tea Spoons. A Dessert Spoon. ( All marked with the crest of an oak tree). A silver Cigar Case, crest— a cock. A curve amber Cigar Tube. A gold signot Ring, crest of an oak tree, A ditto Pea and Pencil- case. Stolen from the person, in Stockport, about 7.45 p. m 4th instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 13331, makers name Josiah Davies, Stockport, had attached a gold Albert Guard, curb pattern, stamped 9- earat. £ 2 reward will be given on apprehension of the tbief or thieves, and recovery of the Watch. Stolen by means of burglary, on 6th inst., at Cannock :— a long double- breasted dark woollen cloth Overcoat, nearly new, bound with black braid, flap pockets on hips, pocket outside left breast and ticket pocket right side, covered cloth buttons, and button holes have been recently repaired, and ' Nicholls, Launceston,' on collar loop; a pair of light lace- up Boots, Levant tops, toecapped, brass eyelet holes and hooks; and about 2os. in small Silver and Copper Money. Stolen at Preston, near Hull, on 14th instant, between 8' 30 and 10 30 p. m.: — a grey roan Mare, 4 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, hair off the shoulders from collar, dark rim round the eyes, nag breed, and flat shoes ; also an old snaffle Bridle. Information to Mr. Superintendent Burniston, East Biding Constabulary, Sproatley, Hull, Yorkshire.- - Bow March 17. Stolen on the night of 4th instant, at Sticklepath. Sampford Courtenay, Devon :— a dark bay Mare, in foal, about 14 hands high, 8 years old, tail cut square, off pin ricked in ; supposed by a man, a native of Chagford, Devon about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build black curly hair, large dark whiskers, dark complexion, dark eyes ; dressed in dark cloth suit, jim crow hat, nailed lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hasted, N. Division, Devon Constabulary, Bow, or to Sergeant Furslow, North Tawton.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded on 5th instant, stealing a brown Mare, 6 yrs. old, rising 15 hands high, bad mane ; a set of black leather Bilver- plated Harness, patent leather hansom pad ; a riding Saddle and Bridle; two Whips; and a Scotch collie Dog, plain brass collar :— • BLEACH, a coachman, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, fair complexion light brown hair and whiskers, and shaved on chin and lip ; dressed in a light brown tweed suit ; has been a soldier. Is • well knowu at Tunbridge Wells and Brighton. Warrant Issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investiga- tions, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Bow- street, March 12. Stolen near Boss, at 8 p. m. on 5th instant: sixty fat Sheep, recovered in Worcester Market the next day, having been driven to Boss Bailway Station, at 9 p. m., and sent by rail to Worcester the same night, in the name of JOHN DAVIES : By JAMES BUDGE, a convict on license, Beg. No. B. G. Y. 1243, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, bald on top of head, small whiskers under chin, blue eyes, scar on top of forehead, ruptured both sides, muscle on left arm displaced, a baker by trade, and is a native of Linton, Lea, or Upton Bishop, near Bbss ; dressed in a dark jacket and vest, light or grey trousers, and deer- stalker hat, and carried a small black parcel, tied up in oilcloth, and a walking stick; he was convicted at Hereford- shire Quarter Sessions, October 17, 1864, of sheep stealing, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude, and at Usk Quarter Sessions, March 26, 1872, of sheep stealing, and was sentenced to 10 years penal servitude, and 7 years police supervision ; his photograph may be had on application. And a man, name unknown, about 43 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather stout build, dark hair and whiskers, meeting under chin, small moustache, swarthy face ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth suit, and black hard low- crowned hat, and had a respectable appearance ; was seen in Worcester the next morning. Information to Mr. Superintendent Smith, Police Station, Boss, Herefordshire, who holds a - warrant for their apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, March 10. Left at a public- house in Eton, Bucks, on 26th ultimo :— a small spring Cart, newly painted very daik slate, nearly black, patent axletree, several new spokes in near wheel; a dark bay cob Horse, black legs, 13J hands high, 6 years old ; a set of Harness, silver gilt mounted, with silver gilt squares on brow band, and rosettes at the ends. By 2 men, one about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high ; dressed respectable. The other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in dark coat and ulster. Had also a large cart and a chesnut horse, 15 hands high, which the oldest man took away about 2nd or 3rd instant, name on the large cart' Biles, Peckham, Surrey.' Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or Inspector Pear mar, Eton, Bucks.— Bow- street, March 10. Wales. Information to Mr. Superintendent Evans, Crick- howell, Breconshire, or to Police Constable ( 30) Johns, Talgarth, Breconshire.— Bow- street, March 17. AUGUSTUS LAWRENCE, see Police Gazette of 8th instant, should be AUGUSTUS LAWRENCE LEVY, son of LAWRENCE LEVY, convicted at the Central Criminal Court, 29th May, 1879, for fraud.— Bow- street, March 17. Absconded from Stroud \ i 10th instant, charged with stealing Blankets from his lodgings :— a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, and medium build; dressed in dark clothes, black hard felt hat with flat top, striped woollen shirt, striped silknecktie, and elastic- side boots; states he is a clerk seeking employment. He took a ticket from Gloucester to Bristol, on the Midland line, on the evening of 11th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Office, Stroud, Gloucestershire,— Bow- street, March 17. Charged with larceny :— JOSEPH SMITH, a gipsy tinker, 52 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in dirty cord trousers and jacket, wideawake cap ; stated he belonged to Huntingdon, aud that he had a pedlar's certificate. And SARAH SMITH, a gipsy, ( supposed wife of above), travels with tin ware, fresh complexion, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, 61 years of age; a little girl about 11 or 12 years of age is travelling with them. Information to Inspector Smith, Police Station, Woburn, Beds, who holds warrants for their apprehensions.— Bow- street, March 15. Description of JESSE ATKINSON, late of Alford, charged on warrant with embezzlement :— he is by trade a draper, but during the last 2 years has been employed as commercial traveller, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, long black whiskers and moustache, generally dressed in black cloth frock coat, grey mixture trousers, and high silk hat. His photo, will be forwarded on application. Information to Inspector Stennett, Alford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 12. Stolen on 19th ins., from the White Swan, Derby :— £ 9 in Gold and Silver, and a lady's gold lever Watch, No., believed to be 11315, and chased back; supposed by six racing men, who slept in the house, on night, two had the appearance of Germans, one 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inchrs high, light complexion, and has very light whiskers, and moustache ; the other 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, very dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in blue coat, and vest, dark over- coat, and hard black billy hat. Information to Chief Constable Delacombe, Derby.— Bow- street, March 12. Stolen during the night of 5th instant, at Causeway Wood, Acton, Burnell, Salop:— a pair of woollen cord Trousers, fly fronts, has a cut about 4 inches long about nine inches from the bottom of right leg. Supposed by a man, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, rather stout build, dark hair and whiskers, fresh complexion, and full face ; dressed in dark brown fur cap, dark jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, and strong lace- up boots.
