The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Tht Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Same is given, it is indispensably necessary that information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence oharged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tilt advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Stolen from the person, at Waterloo Coursing Meeting, on 18th ultimo :— a valuable f- plate gold lever Watch, open face, centre seconds, cream coloured dial, ' H. G.' on back of case, maker Joseph Penlington, No. 5729 ; a gold lever hunt- ing Watch, on one side are the initala ' F. J.' and on the other, crest, double eagle. Information to Mr. Superintendent Walsh, County Police Office, Bootle, Lancashire. — Bow- street, March 1. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Uttered a forged Cheque at Ludlow, on 24th ultimo : — a man who signed as GEORGE HUGHES, No. 14, Bridge- street, Bristol, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches higb, proportionate build, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, slightly knock- kneed; dressed in black. He called at a grocers in Leominster, and represented himself travelling for s. and A. Robinson, wholesale stationers, Victoria- street. Bristol, that Mr. Smith, the traveller, was ill, and he catiie instead, he asked for a blank cheque, being after bank hours, one was given him for which he paid a penny, and filled it up .• aid got cashed in Ludlow. A warrant is held for his appre- hension by Mr. Superintendent Brooks, Ludlow, Shropshire. — Bow- street, March 5. Description of ROBERT BLOUNT, brewer's agent, late of Burton- on- Trent, charged on warrant with uttering a forged Cheque for £ 45 :— about 2G years of age, 0 feet high, medium build, fair complexion, light hair, little or no whiskers, light moustache, a wen on left side of neck nearly under the ear; dressed in a new lightish suit, breeches and leggings, but frequently changes his dress ; well educated, and gentle- manly in appearance. Information to Mr. Superintendent Sims, Police Office, Woodville, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, March o. rOBBErY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Remanded at Hastings, until 11th instant, charged with attempting to pick pockets :•— THOMAS HANLEY, 40 to 45 years of age 5 feet 4J ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers shaved off, dark moustache cut short, sunken eyes, high cheek bones ; dressed in blue overcoat, black coat under, dark tweed trousers, and hard low crowned black hat; has a small mole under left arm. ELIZABETH HANLEY, 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet high, dark brown hair, large full face, high cheek bones, Mpeaks with an Irish aud slightly nasal accent; dressed in dark grey dress, black jacket and shawl under, grey petticoat with red stripes, and black hat with feather. At their lodgings was found two reversible waterproof Overcoats, quite new, supposed stolen. They are travelling pickpockets, and have recently been at Southsea and Brighton. Information to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex. — Bow- street, March 5. Stolen fiom the person in the Horse Fair, Dudley, on ist instant : - a gold keyless Watch, No. 41298, chronometer balance, white face, small seconds hand, aud bow broken off. £ o reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief ot thieves and recovery of the watch. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 3. Supposed stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Rainton, on 24th ultimo :— a gold patent lever Watch, No. 4823, cream dial, steel hands, maker E. Drake, Halifax, and a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, with gold Seal, Key, and Locket, with photo on one side and hair on the other attached. Information to Acting Inspector Hutchinson, Wath, Ripon,' N. R. Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 3. Stolen from the person at Worcester Races, on 27th ultimo :— an open faced gold English lever Watch, with ' W. H. Gwynn' engraved on back, and ' T. B. Brown' scratched on dome. Information to Sergeant Sommere, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street Marsh 3. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen about 10 p. m. on 3rd instant, at Market Har- borough :— a cash Box, containing about £ 6 or £ 7 in Gold ; a Crown Piece, worn smooth ; a Fourpeuny Piece, with figure 4 in centre ; a bended Sixpenny Piece, with mark of teeth on it ; a lion Sixpence, with hole in it ; a lion Shilling, well preserved ; and sundry papers, namely :— old Licenses, tax Papers, aud Bank Receipts ; also £ 25 in Gold, in an old dirty white pocket; a gold Ring, with blue stones, ( two of which are missing), and a pearl in centre; a gold Ring, with three red stones, the ring is cracked through. By a man who took lodgings at the hotel on 1st instant, and said he was a traveller: — about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout aud of dissipated appearance, short sandy hair, a beard and moustache of about a fortnight's growth : dressed in brown or dark clothes, high silk hat, elastic- side boots, sharp toes, thin soles, tine leather, much greased, block fronts, and machine stitched ; he cartied with him a new black shiny leather bag. Another man who was seen with him, is believed to be implicated :— about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 ft. 9 inches high, slim made, hollow cheeks, delicate but not bad looking, wore a dark brown moustache, little whiskers, no beard ; dressed in dark clothing, hard felt hat, and boots similar to other man ; these men occasionally change hats, and are believed to be betting men. The drawers in the bed- room we're forced open by a jemmy. The thief made his exit from the bed- room window ( about 15 feet from ground) ; a dark green silk Umbrella, with heavy cane handle, and a, pair of new brown buttoned leather leggings, reaching above knees were left behind by the thieves. Information to Mr. Superintendent Holloway, County Constabulary Office, Market Harborough, Leicestershire. — Bow- street, March 5. Wanted on a charge of housebreaking :— JOHN TOM- LINSON, alias JAMES CARRUTHERS, JAS. GRIBBIN, JAMES PARKER, THOMAS WILLIAMS, DANIEL HIGGINS and JAMES KIRBY, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, cut short, about three weeks growth, sandy beard and mous- tache on 20th ultimo, and moderately built; dressed in ribbed fustian sleeve vest, back and sleeves are moleskin, moleskin or ribbed trousers, soft black billycock hat, strong lace- up boots, with steel plates on toes and heels, and a bricksetter. He has been convicted as follows :— Oct. 1st, 1870, stealing a pier Glass at Liverpool, as James Parker, 5 months ; June, 1871, housebreaking, Bodmin Sessions, as Daniel Higgins, 12 mooths ; Dec., 1872, stealing 2 Watches. Liverpool Sessions, as Thomas Williams, 7 years and 7 years penal supervision ; April, 1873, free pardon in convict prison ; has been in the 57th Regt. ; Jan., 1875, felony, Carlisle Sessions, as James Gribbin, 12 months ; Jan 21st, 1878, housebreaking, Wigan Sessions, as James Carruthers, 0 months; and July 22nd, 1878, housebreaking at Bolton, October Sessions, 12 months. Information to Chief Constable Alison, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 5. to Inspector Dove, County Police Office, Falsgrave, Scarbro. — Bow- street, March 3. A house at Tiffield, near Towcester, was entered during the night of 21st ultimo, aud stolen therefrom :— a light grey Coat, youth's, two Jpockets at hips a ad one outside breast; a black soft billycock Hat; a pair of side- spring Boots, not nailed, has been worn ; two pocket Handkerchiefs, marked in ink either ' W. Westley' or ' L. Stops'; an old leather Purse, steel clasp, containing Is. Gd. iu silver and some coppers ; and a . small quantity of Bread, Cheese, Meat, aud gingerbread Nuts. By THOMAS WILLIAM SMITH, who escaped from Tiffield Reformatory School on that day : 17 years of age, 5 feet high, slight build, hair dark brown, eyes brown, two small moles under left eye and oue oil right cheek, scar on left temple, very small head, long thin face, and thin lips generally compressed. Information to Mr. Superintendent Norman, Towcester, Northamptonshire.- - Bow- street, March 3. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any person who gives information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, for the burglary at Conisbro', adveitised in Police Gazette of 7th January, 1880, on application to Mr. Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Doncaster.— Bow- street, March 5. Between 11 p. m. 26th and 8 a. m. 27th ultimo, a Post Office, at Chenies, Bucks, was entered and stolen therefrom :— a small brass skeleton Timepiece, and a French alarm Ditto ; a number of ladies Scarves various coVurs ; a quantity of common Jewellery, consisting of Brooches, Lockets, and Chains; 6 silver Thimbles ; a [ large quantity of English and Foreign Postage Stamps, old and new; three small brass letter Weights, with Government Stamp upon them; 4 German silver table Spoons, ' J. C. G.' on handles; a lady's small Companion, complete; and a little JMoney from the till. Supposed by a man, 22 years of age. 5 feet 6. inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and no whiskers ; respectably dressed in dark cutaway coat, black hard hat, flat on top, grey cloth trousers, and polished boots, who was seen in the village on the two previous days and who made particular inquiry of school children respecting the people aud premises at Post Office. Information to Inspector Hall, Chesham, Bucks. — Boa- street, March 3. Between 5 and 9 30 p. m. 29th ultimo, a house at Hands- worth. was entered and stolen therein : a lady's small Geneva gold Watch, steel hands, gold dial; and a small gold Brooch, with white stone in centre. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Whitehurst, Westbromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 3. Stolen on 29th ultimo, by means of housebreaking, at Thirlso Farm, near Scarbro :— 2 large Bladders of pigs Lard, weighingabout 181b. each; 3 apple Pies ; several round currant Cakes, and 2 boiled pigs Feet. Information . to Mr. Super- intenden Spence, North Riding Constabulary, Pickering, or HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of 27th ultimo :— a fat half- bred wether Sheep; the carcass was carried away, and the ekin and head left behind. Supposed by some excavators, who had been seeking work on the railway, and may have carried the mutton to a distance. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Hamilton, Norman Cross, Peterborough, Northampton- shire.— Bowrstreet, March 5. Hired at Leeds, on 16th ultimo, a Horse, Trap, and Harness, and'not having been returned in the specified time it is supposed the man who hired them may have disposed of the same :— a grey Cob, 13 hands high, stout build, ' W. T. B.' marked on shoes; silver, mounted harness, hook on saddle to hold bearing- rein up is broken ; wbitechnpel Cart, painted liver colour, strung with red, the off- side shaft has been splintered Bear to the step, aud one corner cut out of the step, a plate iu the shape of ' T' on the shaft near the step, also a clasp ; two mackintosh Rugs, viz., oue lined with green plaid, the otheflined with brown and yellow ; he gave the name of THOMAS KIRBY, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 ins.' high, dark complexion, black whiskers, medium build ; dressed in a black cloth suit, brown overcoat, and silk hat ; wabbles when walking. Information to Chief Inspector Nortcliffe, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, March 5. Supposed stolen from the front of the ' Greenfield' inn, Cutter Height- lane, Tong, near Bradford, about 11 p. m. on the night of 3rd instant:— a bay Mare, aged, 13 hands high, in good condition, clipped, square tail, scar under jaw, in silver mounted Harness, and black painted dog Cart, strung with red, blue cloth cushions, and plated silver wheel caps, marked ' Speight, Manning- lane.' Information to Mr. Super- intendent Ball, West Ridiug of Yorkshire Constabulary, Bradford. - Bow- street, March 5. Committed for trial on 1st instant, at the next Quarter Sessions at Northallerton, charged with Cattle stealing :— GEORGE CLARKSON CLUST, 37 years of age, 5 feet 6^ inches high, brown hair, ginger whiskers and moustache, shaves at chin, blue ( tender) eyes, fair complexion, nose rather crooked, moles on left breast, on left side of abdomen, and under left shoulder ; dressed as a labourer, and wears small gold earrings. States he is a native of Kilham, near Driffield, and has served in the Royal Artillery, but was discharged at St. Johns, New Brunswick, about 10 years ago, and has since worked at the Docks in London, Hull. Middlesbrough, Stockton- on- Tees, aud other places. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, Nth. Riding Constabulary, Heworth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 5. HUGH THOMAS, native of Llangefni, charged on warrant with stealing two Oxen, in Anglesey, on 12th ultimo, advertised in Police Gazette of 27th ultimo, has been arrested. Bow- street. March 5. Description of GEORGE JONES ( name supposed fic- titious) wanted, charged with stealing a Horse at Willenhall, on 6th June last ( supposed a locksmith) ;— about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, red flushing face, dark brown hair, n'o whiskeis, very slight light brown moustache, dark eyes, medium build, has one tooth protruding outside of his mouth, and high cheek bones ; dressed in a dark blue or black cloth jacket, pockets on hips, dark cloth trousers and vest, hard billycock hat. Stated he came from Bloxwich. Staffordshire. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 5. Absconded, charged on warrant with stealing 20 Sheep, recovered, on 26th ultimo :— JAMES CREED, 38 years . it" age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin face, slightly wrinkled, brown hair, few light brown whiskers on lower part of face, pale complexion, talks fast and indistinctly ; dressed in brown tweed coat, brown woollen cord breeches, black leather gaiters, heavy lace- up boots, and black hard round hat. Is a farm bailiff, has been previously convicted of embezzlement, had in his possession a box, containing clothes, amongst which was a black cloth suit. Will most likely endeavour to emigrate. Information to Mr. Superintendent Maxted, Kent Con- stabulary, Police Station, Sahdgate.— Bow- street, March 3. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. The information from Chief Constable, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, relative to WILLIAM MARSHALL HAMILTON, March 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. being wanted for larceny, and the reward described in Police Gazette of 31st August, 1877, and subsequent dates, is can- celled from this date, 4th March, 1880.— Bow- street, March o. Absconded on 1st instant, charged with stealing £ 109 :— FREDERICK WM. WILSON. 26 years of age, 0 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, hair, whiskers and moustache ( small),' grey eyes, low forehead, full face ; dressed in grey Chesterfield overcoat, dark suit under, and high black hat, and a clerk. May visit Liverpool, where he was pre- viously employed, or Lincoln, where it is believed his father resides. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W .— Metropolitan Police, March 5. Absconded on 29 th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 87 in Gold :— THOMAS NALL, 66 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches h gh, full face, light hair turning grey, slight whiskers under chin, lost front upper teeth ; dressed in black frock coat, dark trousers, hob- nailed boots, soft black billy- cock hat ; is much addicted to drink. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bow- street, March 5. Absconded on 1st, charged with stealing a pair of solid bronze female Figures, about 14 inches high ; Byron's Works, in 8 volumes, Philidelphia edition ; G pint bottles, of Champagne :— a man, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers, turning grey, thin build ; dress black diagonal frock coat, brown tweed vest, and trousers, round black fait hat; lately resided at Castle- st;, Holborn. Information ta the Director C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, March. 5, Description of WILLIAM WADSWORTH, alias ASHMOORE, charged with stealing 2 Coats, recovered, from the infant school, Clifton, near York, on 1st instant:— he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion, cut mark oa forehead, over left eye, is a native of Sheffield or neighbourhood ; dressed iu a dark grey mixture tweed jacket, old cotton cord trousers, aitd grey cloth cap, is of dirty appearauce, and frequents common lodging houses and vagrant wards, was liberated from the York Industrial School, about 18 months ago. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 5. GEORGE SMITH, charged on warrant with stealing from the ' Bull and Butcher' public house at Fenny Stratford, ou 21st ultimo, advertised in Police Gazette of 27th ultimo, has been apprehended aud committed to H. M. Prison, at Aylesbury, for 14 days.— Bow- street, March 5. Description of EDWARD KEELING, alias WYMAN RODGERS, alias WALKER, wanted at Salford upon several charges of fraud and theft:— he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 to 6 inches high, very fresh complexion, dark brown hair, crown of the head clean shaven, very round full face, slight mous- tache, is well educated, speaking French and Italian; is sometimes wearing a collegiate cap with tassel, and makes up as a student, and at other times as a young curate; occasionally dresses in a brown suit, with or without an overcoat, tall £> ilk hat or cap, seems to have a pretty extensive wardrobe some- where in reserve ; he is a native of Derby, lias _, been at an orphanage in' London, aud in St. Chads College, Denston, near Uttoxeter. He has relations living at Melbourne and Aston, Derbyshire, at Burton- on- Trent and Rocester, Stafford- shire, it Ashby- de- la- Zouch, Leicester, Nottingham, and Rugeley. He goes to protestant clergymen aud submits a deplorable story of the ill- treatment lie has received at a Catholic Institution, from which he has been obliged to run away, and after receiving assistance and perhaps a week's gratuitous board with the clergyman's family, decamps, steal- ing Money and Jewellery , and goes then to the catholic priests and tells them of the ill- treatment he has received from protestants, is very unsuspicious- looking, aud equal to any emergency, is very eloquent, aud if necessary can pray fluently. Excepting money, the only property not recovered, is a lady's dress Ring, pattern— gold band set with red stone, end a small catholic Prayer Book. STEWART, alias the GLASGOW SPIDER, who is wanted at Whitehaven, Cumberland, on a charge of stealing^ Watch and Guard, recovered:— he is 22 or 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 or Slnclies high, dark complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, cut very short, proportionate figure; is a native of Glasgow, he has a large nose, and a small mark on right eyelash, which is quite visible ; dressed in a dark blue suit, French cap with peak, and old boots. Has travelled through the Country as a sparrer. Infor- mation'' to Mr. Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, March 5. Charged with embezzling £ 7< i, at Mottram, in Long- dendale, Cheshire.:- THOMAS HARRISON, late church warden, 45 years of age, stout built, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, inclined to be curly, and turning grey, round red face, sandy whiskers,' short thick neck, sullen downcast appearance, slovenly gait, and walks with his head down, has for some time held a small farm in the neighbourhood of Mottram, in Longdendale. It is strongly suspected that he will endeavour to emigrate, he left his home on 27th ultimo. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cooper, County Police Station, Hyde, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Absconded on 10th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— ALBERT LINDRIGE, late of 21, Hackney- road, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, fair complexion, slight whiskers' and moustaches ; dresses respectably. Formerly employed by Messrs. Howell, builders, Hastings; his sister keeps Ore post office at Rye, near Hastings, and a brother is employed as clerk to Messrs. Willicombe and Oakley, Tunbridge Wells, whom he may visit. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 3.
