Notice.— It ii requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to tihe Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Same is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence oharged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor mtM* be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and tot Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, at above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly : — ( 1). The amount of the reward. ( 2). The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in a water- closet at 15, Bedford- street, Moss Side, at 11- 45 p. m. 24th instant:— a male Child, about 4 months old; it liad on an old tartan frock, magenta- coloured jacket small scarlet shawl, elastic- side patent leather boots, anc. white socks. It is alive, but appears to be suffering from bronchitis. The shawl was fastened tightly round its face and neck. It has been removed to the Chorlton Union Workhouse ; the clothiug upon it is old and dirty ; it appears fairly nourished. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 27. a .. umber of ladies Scarves various • o\ u- s ; a quantity of common Jewellery, consisting of Brooches, Lockets, and Chains; C silver Thimbles; a large quantity of English atd Foreign Postage Stamps, old and new]; three small brass letttr Weights, with Government Stamp upen them; 4 German silver table Spoons, ' J. C. G.' on handles; a lady's small Companion, complete; and a little " Money from the till. Supposed by a man, 22 years of age. 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and no whiskers ; respectably dressed in dark cutaway coat, black hard hat, flat on top, grey cloth trousers, and polished boots, who was seen in the village on the two previous days and who made particular inquiry of school children respecting the people and premises at Post Office. Information to Inspector Hall, Chesham, Bucks. — Bow- street, March 3. Between 5 and 9' 30 p. m. 29th ultimo, a house at Hands- worth, was entered and stolen therein : a lady's small Geneva gold Watch, steel hands, gold dial; and a small gold Brooch, with white stone in centre. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Whitehurst, Westbromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 3. Stolen on 29th ultimo, by means of housebreaking, at Thirlso Farm, near Scarbro :— 2 large Bladders of pigs Lard, weighing about 181b. each; 3 apple Pies; several round currant Cakes, and 2 boiled pigs Feet. Information to Mr. Super- intenden Spence, North Ridiug Constabulary, Pickering, or to Inspector Dove, County Police Office, Falsgrave, Searbro. — Bow- street, March 3. A house at Tiffield, near Towcester, was entered during the night of 21st ultimo, and stolen therefrom :— a light grey Coat, youth's, two [ pockets at hips and one outside breast; a black soft billycock Hat; a pair of side- spring Boots, not nailed, has been worn ; two pocket Handkerchiefs, marked in ink either ' W. Westley' or ' L. Stops'; an ' old leather Purse, steel clasp, containing Is. 6d. in silver and some coppers ; and a small quantity of Bread, Cheese, Meat, and gingerbread Nuts. By THOMAS WILLIAM SMITH, who escaped from Tiffield Reformatory School on that day : 17 years of age, 5 feet high, slight build, hair dark brown, eyes brown,, two small moles under left eye and one on right cheek, scar on left temple, very small head, long thin face, and tliin lips generally compressed. Information to Mr. Superintendent Norman, Towcester, Northamptonshire. -- Bow- street, March 3. FORGERY. Description of ROBERT BLOUNT, brewer's agent, late of Burton- on- Trent, charged on warrant with uttering a forged Cheque for £ 45 :— about 26 years of age, 6 feet high, medium build, fair complexion, light hair, little or no whiskers, light moustache, a wen on left side of ncck nearly under the ear ; dressed in a new lightish suit, breeches and leggings, but frequently changes his dress ; well educated, and gentle- manly in appearance. Information to Mr. Superintendent Sims, Police Office, Woodville, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, March 3. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen fiom the person in the Horse Fair, Dudley, on 1st instauta gold keyless Watch, No. 41298, chronometer balance, white face, small seconds hand, and bow broken off. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the watch. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 3. Supposed stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Rainton, ou 24th ultimo :— a gold patent lever Watch, No. 4823, cream dial, steel hands, maker E. Drake, Halifax, and a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, with gold Seal, Key, and Locket, with photo on one side and hair on the other attached. Information to Acting Inspector Hutchinson, Wath, Ripon, N. R. Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 3. Stolen from the person at Worcester Races, on 27th ultimo :— an open faced gold English lever Watch, with ' W. H. Gwynn' engraved on back, and ' T. B. Brown' scratched on dome. Ann pattern; 2 Mustard- spoons; a round Sugar- basin, lined with gold ; a Butter- knife, with armorial bearings- shield with three mullets, encircled with inscription ' Praise God'; a plain Coffee- pot; a Tea- pot, engraved ' C. K., from his Godmother' in brown leather case, lined with white silk ; 2 pairs of Sugar- tong3, one plain, one old- fashioned, like scissors, all silver; 4 Overcoats, one dark grey Chesterfield, one black Chesterfield, lined with silk, velvet collars, one long dark blue single- breasted, one wadded, lined with silk, velvet collar ; a Round- towel, ' K. P.' in red cotton. Information to the Director C. I. D, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, March 1. Between 10.15 p. m. 22ud and 6 a. m. 23rd ultimo, the dwelling house of Henry Dickenson, of Euxton, was entered and stolen therein :— an old- fashioned silver Watch, verge, double cases, outer, case loose, white dial, figures on dial instead of Roman Letters, long hand broken, short hand bent; an old German silver* Watch, white dial, hands broken, supposed a verge, of very little value; and about 4s. in Money. Information to Mr. Superintendent Beetham, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, At arch 1. breasted, two pockets outside, with laps over, one inside left breast, and ticket pocket; a pair of opera Glasses, one glass is loose; a lady's black French merino Jacket, trimmed with crape. Supposed by a man, 26 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or inches high, dark complexion, slight whiskers and moustache, hard billy cock hat, black cloth coat, light muffler round his neck; and a woman, who was seen carrying a bundle, she had a black shawl on her head. A reward of £ 3 will be paid by- Mr. William Kitchen, the owner, to any person who will give information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, leading to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or Lin proportion thereof. — Bow- street, February 27. Stolen at Redstone Hill, between 11 p. m. 23rd and 7 a. m 24th instant:— a doz. desert Knives and Forks, pearl handles; two desert Spoons and sugar Sifter, silver washed - with gold, marked with a ' B.'; and a Purse, with about £ 5, and two silver Coins. Information to the Head Constable, Redhill, Sarrey.— Bow- street, February 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Western Villa, Cheltenham, between 5th November last and 11th instant:— a black satin Dress, new, trimmed white tulle, black gimp lace, and beads ; a dove and grey coloured silkj Skirt, with a black lace flounce ; a black lace Dress ; a black lace Cloak ; a fawn coloured silk and cashmere Dress : a black velvet Polonaise ; a large square black Brussels lace Shawl; a large lace Mantilla, with deep flounce ; a long lace^ Scarf, about 3J yards long; a lace Tippet, with sleeves ; 2 yards of red and black Velvet, and several pieces of Lace ; a plated Fish- knife ; a pair of asparagus Tongs with ivory handles; a pair of Cham- pagne Holders, all plated. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Day, Constabulary Office, Cheltenham. — Bow- street, February 27. On the morning of 24th instant, the house of Mr. John Pedler, sub postmaster, Chittlehampton, Devon, was entered and stolen therein :— a black cloth great Coat; a silver Watch, recovered ; 10i. worth of penny, aud 3s. worth of half penny Postage, and some Receipt Stamps. By WM. WESTACOTT, tailor, native of Chittlehampton, but h; is boen living in Swansea, South Wales, about 30 years of age, 5, ' feet 8 inches high , brown hair, slight brown moustache, no whiskers, very- smart appearance ; dressed in dark cloth suit, hard bowler hat, and was seen carrying the stolen great coat. Supposed previously convicted. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton, Devon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 27. Stolen from the person, at Waterloo Coursing Meeting, on 18th ultimo :— a valuable f- plate gold lever Watch, open face, centre seconds, cream coloured dial,' H. G.' on back of case, maker Joseph Penlington, No. 5729 ; a gold lever hunt- ing Watch, on one side are the initals ' F. J.' and on the other, crest, double eagle. Information to Mr. Superintendent Walsh, County Police Office, Bootle, Lancashire.- Bo> ji- March 1. Stolen at Bolton, between 6.30 and 8 p. m. on 22nd inst:— a black cloth worsted frock Coat, bound with braid, supposed two buttons on each cuff, double breasted, two pockets in laps behind, and ore inside left breast; a black cloth worsted HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded, charged on warrant with stealing 20 Sheep, recovered, ou 26th ultimo :— JAMES CREED, 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin face, slightly wrinkled, brown hair, few light brown whiskers on lower part of face, pale complexion, talks fast and indistinctly ; dressed in brown tweed coat, brown woollen cord breeches, black leather gaiters, heavy lacs- up boots, aud black hard round liat. Is a farm bailiff, has been previously convicted of embezzlement, liad in his possession a box, containing clothes, amongst which was a black cloth suit. Will most likely endeavour to emigrate. Information to Mr. Superintendent Maxted, Kent Con- stabulary, Police Station, Sandgate.— Bow- street, March 3. Stolen on the night of 24th ultimo, at the Moors, Bitterley :— 3 fat Ewe Sheep, of the Southdown breed, no marks, property of Mr. C. Dotson. Information to Mr. Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Bromwell, Bromfield, Salop.— Bow- street, March 1. Charged with stealing a Horse at Stockport, on 20th ult,, ( advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd ult. :— a man about 20 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, high cheek bones, sharp nose, sandy whiskers and beard, no mous- tache, medium build, has an impediment in his speech, and twitches his mouth a little when laughing; was wearing a blue reefer coat, much worn, and cloth cap. The Horse was found at a public- house in Glossop with a fawn- coloured horse Rug with two black and red stripes round edge, a Sur- cingle, a pair of fawn- coloured Knee- caps, jockey's Cap, Whip, horn stamped in centre of leather, bottom part of one cap torn very much, a Halter ( all the above are nearly new), a snail] e bridle Bit, part worn ; one of the buckle holes cut about an inch long ; all the above articles are supposed stolen. Between 11 p. m. 26th and 8 a. m. 27th ultimo, a P. a Office, at Chenies, Bucks, was entered and stolen therefrom :— a small brass skeleton Timepiece, and a French alarm Ditto; rflorning Coat, three buttons down front, two pockets in lap; behmd, one inside le't breast, bound with braid ; a pair o black cloth Trousers, fly fronts, cross pockets, and hip pocket, without linings, supposed knight on buttons; a black cloth worsted dress Waistcoat, trimmed with fancy braid ; a long black worsted ribbed lady's Jacket, trimmed with military braid^> ound back and front; a black satin quilted Skirt; a black Trench merino Dress, two frills round bottom of skirt, close fitting, buttons down back ; five links of small imitation white pearl Beads ; a breast Piu, onyx stone ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, blue enamelled ; a pair of black star Ear- rings ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with small balls attached ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with heart- shaped ball in centre; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with crimp drops ; a gold breast Pin, diamond shape; a silver Geneva Watch, silver face, ' A. K. ' or ' A. M. K', monogram on outer case, and a strong long gold Chain, with gold Key and Seal attached ; a diagonal worsted cloth Overcoat, rather long, with black velvet collar, single Charged with stealing a Pony at Ben Regis, on 16th instant :— THOMAS PITMAN, alias TOM PUDDY, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3£ inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, square build, oval face, lost top of left thumb, scar right side of nose ; generally travels about as a drover ; dressed in new suit of dark mixture clothes, the sleeves are much too long, a new pair of lace- up boots, and black stiff bowler hat. He is advertised in Police Gazette of 26th ultimo, for not reporting hinself at Crewkerne, being under police supervision. Information to Mr. Superintendent Lavender, Dorset Constabulary, Wareham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 27. Charged on warrant with stealing Oxen, in Anglesey, on 12th instant:— HUGH THOMAS, native of Llangefni, Angle ey, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale com- plexion, rather thin features, blue eyes, light hair, few light hair on chin, very lliin moustache, slenderly built, kno'ek- kneed, toes turning out, large ankle bones, ( in tide) j droased 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. March 10 in a shabby dark cloth jacket, grey cloth trousers, and elastic- side boots, much worn. Information to Inspector Hughes, Police Station, Menai Bridge, Anglesey.— Bow- street, Feb. 27, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, for stealing a pair of Boots, recovered, at Hungerton, on 28th ultimo a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout made, fresh| complexion, dark brown hair, dark bushy whiskers, and only shaves top lip ; dressed iu black soft billy- cock hat, drabet jacket, fustian trousers, had a long dark cloth coat, which he carried iu a bundle, strong lace- up boots, nearly new, and is a farm labourer. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wynne, Lincolnshire Constabulary, Spittlegate.— Bow- street, March 3. Charged with embezzling £ 76, at Mottram, in Long- dendale, Cheshire :— THOMAS HARRISON, late church warden, 45 years of age, stout built, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, inclined to be curly, and turning grey, round red face, sandy whiskers, short thick neclr, sullen downcast appearance, slovenly gait, and walks with his head down, has for some time held a small farm in the neighbourhood of Mottram, in Longdendale. It is strongly suspected that he will endeavour to emigrate, he left his home on 27th ultimo. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cooper, County Police Station, Hyde, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Absconded on 10th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:- ALBERT LINDRIGE, late of 21, Hackney- road, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, slight whiskers and moustaches; dresses respectably. Formerly employed by Messrs. Howell, builders, Hastings ; his sister keeps the post office at Bye, near Hastings, and a brother is employed as clerk to Messrs. Willicombe and Oakley, Tunbridge Wells, whom he may visit. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 23, Old Jewry, E. C.- Bow- street, March 3. Further description of JOHN WALLIS, alias CLOCKY' a tramping watch and clock cleaner, advertised in Police Gazette of 16th January, 1880, charged with larceny as a bailee of several silver aud metal Watches, siuce recovered :— he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light hair, very light whiskers aud moustache, shaves on aud uuder chin ; dressed it black surtout coat, and dark trousers, lias a ehabby appearance, generally wears a satchel with strap, over right shoulder, will most likely be found in low lodging houses in° company with a short stout woman, about 40 years of age, who makes and hawks wool work; attention is particularly called to this man, who ha3 been previously convicted, and is " believed to be the same mm, who is wanted at Ramsey, Lincolnshire, see Police Gazette. Photo can be obtained, and information to Mr. Superintendent Gobbett, Halesworth, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of WILLIAM CHARLES FELTHAM, late clerk to Henry Pointing, brewer, Weston, near Bath, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— about 20 ye; irs of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, long neck, narrow shoulders, slightly built, very little if any whiskers, and largo Roman nose ; generally wears a suit of grey tweed. Information to Mr. Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Weston, near Bath, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, March 1. Stolen on 18th ultimo : a sealskin Jacket, ( rimmed deep fur, to match; black cashmere Dress, kilting atd' tucks ; black lace Shawl, yard square ; a gold Geneva Watch, enamel back, set with one large and thirty- six small diamonds, fringi d as pendants, jewelled eight holes with rubies, maker's name on back -; a double link pattern gold Necklet; pair of gold filigree Ear- rings, long drops; three Rings, one broad gold buckle pattern, large diamond in centre, one cluster, eight large diamonds, gold leaf each side, one broad gold Gipsey, set with three large diamonds; a large mosaic B- ooch, se„ in gold, black edge, view of St, Paul's Church, at Rome ; a black enamelled Snuff- box, 3 inches long, 2| inches wide, lined gold, ornamented gold leaves, aud forget- me- nots on outside. By a woman, 55 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, broad nose, large mouth, ( shews her teeth, which are large and discoloured), wears spectacles ; dressed in black cashmere, trimmed velvet and fringe, black lace shawl or sealskin jacket, black straw bonnet, trimmed black feathers, and light pink roses ; speaks with a foreign accent. She calls at houses whore apartments are to let ( which she takes), and then commits larcenies ; states her son is Captain of the ship ' Atlantic,' and that she ii the owner of coffee plantations in the West Indies, and her l'jggage is on boai- d ship. On the 19th, a letter was posted ut° Dovercourt, aud passed through Harwich Post Office, supposed written by her or a confederate ; likely to be found at hotels in the provinces. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, March 1. Charged with stealing a Half Sovereign, two Shillings in Silver, a small black Shawl, and a cal'co Bodice, ou 20th ultimo; also a woman's Dress ( recovered), and an old gold Ring, much worn, on 23rd ultimo, at Eastbourne, Sussex, all of which she obtained possession of under tho pretence of telling fortunes :-~ a woman, about 45 years of ago, very tall, dark complexion, thin face, grey eyes, dart brown hair, slight figure ; had the appearauce of a gipsey ; dressed in old black straw hat, trimmed with black, old paisley or led and black plaid shawl with holes in it, old brown or faded green dress, with flounce, very short, white apron, and heavy boots. Carried a small wicker basket, with two handles and oilcloth over, containing nightcaps aul lace which she offers for sale, as an introduction to fortune telling. Was accompanied by 2 gipsey- looking men, one of whom walked lame from rheumatic gout, and had a peculiar mark or scar on one side of his nose, which appears as if a piece had been cut out. Information to Mr. Superintendent Newnham, East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne.—. Bow- si., March 1. Absconded on 19 th ultimo charged with embezzling £ 6 10s. 6d. ALBERT HART, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, dark hair and whiskers, light brown moustache, small ro'nan nose, high forehaad; dress black diagonal cloth over- c > at, brown mixture trousers, hard felt hat, side spriDg boots, usual residence 85, Boundary- road, St. John's Wood. N. W. Supposed may make his way to Liverpool for America, or to Tiverton, Devon, where his father resides ; warrant issued. Information to the Director C. I. D. Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police March 1. Description of EDWARD KEELING, alias WALKER, who is wanted at Salford upon several charges of fraud and thefthe is 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, very fresh complexion, dark brown hair, but all shaven off the roof and crown of the head, has a very round full face, slight moustache, is well educated, speaking French and Italian ; is sometimes wearing a collegiate cap with tassel, and makes up as a student, and at other times as a young curate, occasionally dresses in a brown suit, with or without an overcoat, tall silk hat or cap, seetns to have a pretty extensive wardrobe some- where in reserve. He goes to protestjnt clergymen and submits a deplorable " stoiy of the ill- txeathient he has received at a Catholic Institution, in Staffordshire from which he has been obliged to ran away, giving all his friends behind him, and after receiving assistance and perhaps a weeks gratuitous board with the clergyman's family, decamps and goes then to the catholic priests and tells them of the ill- treatment he has received at the hands of the protestants, is very unsuspicious looking, and equal- to any emergency, is very eloquent, and if necessary can pray fluently.
