POLICE GAZETTE CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cam of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who art known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6411 woollen Shirt. Supposed by two men : first about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, long dark whiskers, sharp features, black stiff billycock hat, dark mix- ture suit, appears respectably dressed. 2nd from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in a pair of light cord trousers, a black jacket, with white slop underneath, a close fitting cap with peak, heavy boots, and had the appearance of a navvy. One of the men was carrying an old joiner's bass, suppose to contain the stolen property. It is supposed one of the men will be wearing the dark olive diagonal worsted cloth over- coat. Entrance obtained through the roof. Information to Chief Constable Pole, Town Hall, _ Halifax.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Hooley- hill, Audenshaw, between 3' 30p. m. and 9p. m. on 1st instant: 1 spade ace Guinea, slightly bent at the edge, and . far worn ; and about 3s. in copper Money. Entrance effected to the house by means of a skeleton key. The drawers and boxes in the house have been forced open by means of some flat implement about i- inch broad. Also from a dwelling house at Hooley- hill, between 6 p. m. and 10' 15 p. m. on 1st instant : 10s. in Silver. The marks on the boxes and drawers at both houses correspond. "*' Stolen, by means of house- breaking, between 6.15 p. m., and 8 p. m. 1st instant: £ 2 10s. in Gold and Silver ; a gold Brooch, moveable centre, one side for photo, being empty, the other side containing a small quantity of light brown hair, with new brass pin recently attached ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, diamond pattern three links ; a gold scarf Pin, twisted, > diamond pattern ; a pair of wooden Nut- cracks, forming figure of man's face ; a pair of gold plated sleeve Links, black t stone with white stripe across ; a sleeve Link similar pattern ; ) a dessert Spoon ; two electro- plated table Spoons ; a pair of German- silver Sugar- tongs ; a common imitation gold Brooch, horse shoe pattern, with a piece of silk ribbon attached; a blue pilot Overcoat, plain collar, black covered buttons, pockets on each outside, puce and black lining, been repaired right sleeve, part worn; a pair of dark grey cloth Trousers, part 1 worn, bound with white braid, with a pair of coloured elastic ! As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor •( Ult be prepaid, otherwise tho insertion will not he made. Tht Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should he forwarded en War Offiot Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in tht POLICE GAZETTE. REWARD BILLS. Handbills or other advertisements offering rewards for the discovery of stolen property, or the detection of crime, forwarded for insertion in the Police Gazette, or for distribution by the Metropolitan Police, must state clearly:— ( 1). The amount of the reward. ( 2). The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. The following form is suggested. " A reward of £ will be paid by of to any person who gives information leading to the apprehension or conviction of the offender or offenders ( and the recuvery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered), or leading to the discovery of the missing person. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of CHARLES SPICK, late of Nottingham, who is charged with forging and uttering a Bill of Exchange for £ 100 14s. lid. with intent to defraud ; 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, side whiskers, no moustache or beard, has been employed as a cleik, he may attempt to leave the country. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehehsion.— Bow- street, February 2. black Irish frieze Ulster, with belt, black bone buttons, pockets on hips, breast pocket outside, lined with grey cloth, and silk in sleeves, single- breasted ; a yellowish brown striped thick soft cloth Overcoat, covered buttons, fly front, breast pocket outside on left, and one inside on right, two side pockets, a ticket pocket, and buttons under flap ; a light grey twilled cloth Overcoat, single- breasted, fly front, covered buttons to match, pockets same as above ; a dark grey thick twilled cloth Overcoat, single- breasted, fly front, with buttons and pockets same as above ; a black thick twilled Overcoat, fly front, single- breasted, pockets and buttons same as above ; a double- breasted dark blue pilot Overcoat, velvet collar, black silk lining, black silk buttons, three pockets outside, and ticket pocket with flaps ; a thin dark grey single- breasted Overcoat, velvet collar, black silk buttons, little worn, two pockets outside, and ticket pocket, fly front; five silk Umbrellas, various colours, one has a straight cane handle, two pairs stitched lace- up Boots, brass eyelets, man's size, one pair new, the other part worn ; a pair of man's Goloshes ; two silk Scarves, one black and white ( diagonal), the other black and purple ; a malacca Cane, with silver top, initials ' J. Information at the Police Station, Pendleton, Lancashire.- Bow- street, February 4. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on 30th| ultimo, from the person at Liverpool, a gold Bight hunter Watch, black enamelled figures, pendant winder, plain cases, barrel edged, white enamelled dial with seconds, gold hands, maker— Joseph Penlington, Liverpool, No. 2331 ; a massive gold Albert Chain, cable pattern, with hook ; a gold oval shaped Locket, grey enamelled ; a gold Pencil- case, blue enamelled, plaid pattern, silver point; and a gold Horse Shoe. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving information that will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the stolen piopery. In- formation to Chief Superintendent Williams, Liverpool. Bow- st., February 2. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1880. Description of a man who is connected with the burglaries that are taking place in Shropshire and the adjoining counties : he is a convict on license, having been convicted at Radnorshire Assizes, March, 1870, in the name of THOMAS COPE, for burglary, and sentenced to 10 years penal servitude : he is 43 years of age, 5 feet 3| inches high, dark hair, large dark whiskers, heavy moustache, high fore- head, large scar on left side, broad hips, third finger of right hand contracted, anchor on left a/ m, mole on front of neck ; dressed in a long dark overcoat, black felt hat, dark cloth trousers, strong boots, long muffler round neck ; he was born in Manchester, and has resided at the Rhos, Denbighshire, he has a small carpet bag with him. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Wrexham.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen on 2nd instant, by means of housebreaking, at Kidderminster: about 6 new Suits, men's, all loose Jackets or Coats ; a Coat and Trousers belonging to new suit, brown colour ; 2 pairs of new Boots, men's, sewn, elastic- sides, size 7 and 8 ; a number of Stockings, in packages ; a quantity of Scarves and Mufflers; numerous Jackets, Ulsters , and Coats, which were in pledge with the tickets on them; a new plaid Shirt, red mixture, of woollen material; a Table- cloth, red and purple mixture. Information to Mr. Superintendent Haigh, Town Hall, Kidderminster,— Bow- street, February 4. During the night of the 2nd instant, a carpenter's shop at Sunninghill was broken into and stolen therein : a half rip Saw, marked ' P. P.' and ' F. Pizzey';| a panel Saw, ' F. Pizzey'; a smoothing Plane, ' H. Cox'; a ditto, ' R. L.' and ' G. Tidbury'; a panel Saw, ' G. Tidbury'; a half rip Saw, ' J. Shinera new tenon Saw, maker's name ' Emes, London,' stamped on it; a bull- nose Plane, in a small red baize Bag; a smoothing Plane, ' J. E. Bonner'; and a Basket. A man | called at the shop for work on the 2nd instant, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, full face, and whiskers round chin ; dressed in hard felt hat, pepper and salt colour Jacket, and cord Trousers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer.— Bow- street, February 4. Between 1 and 6' 45 a. m. on 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. J. Tysoe, of Pendleton, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : twelve large and twelve small silver table Forks; four silver sauce Ladles ; twenty- four silver tea Spoons; and six silver egg Spoons, all Grecian pattern, maker's initials ' G. A.,' London Hall marked, gadroon ornamentation on handles, the forks are four pronged, stamped on the back of the shouldor, with crest— arm and shield ; a pair of silver Snuffers, and silver Tray, with finger loop, beaded round the bottom, and both are stamped with crest— stag's head ; twelve silver plated fish Knives ; twelve silver plated fish Forks, plain ivory handles ; a pair of silver plated grape Scissors; a pair of silver plated ice Tongs; a silver cake Knife and Fork, queen's pattern, in a maroon- coloured leather case, lined with blue ; a small silver drinking Cup, single handle, and gilt inside, ' A. T.' or ' Annie Tysoe, Dec. 10th, 1858' on front; a silver plated toast Rack ; a BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, from a Pawnbroker's shop at Halifax, during the night of 30th ultimo : a silver- plated Revolver, small size; a quantity of Silk Handkerchiefs; a Coat; a meerschaum Pipe in case ; Six Shillings in Money ; a small Foreign Coin, size of a three- penuy piece, with small hole through, and star on one side ; a silver verge Watch, No. 381, not in going con- dition, silver albert Guard attached ( snake pattern), with silver Key at end ; nine or twelve silver Chains; three lengths of Coral Beads, one length going white ; a small gold albert Guard and Key, ( Belcher and Brazilian pattern); a small fold curb fob Chain, six dwts. ; blue enamel Slide; a gold ' in blue enamel cross in pearls, the enamel slightly chipped ; a dark olive diagonal worsted cloth Overcoat; a red Silk Handkerchief; a set of Coral Beads, marked on snap; also a Remanded at Lambeth Police Court, until 9th instant, for being upon the roof of a jeweller's shop with housebreaking implements in his possession : DANIEL MURRAY, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, large scar left side of forehead, scars between eyebrows, on back, and between thumb aud forefinger left hand, first joint third left finger deficient, anchor and diamond and five large vaccination marks on left arm, six front teeth deficient, two in lower, four in upper jaw ; dressed in blue pilot overcoat, velvet collar, side pockets, dark mixture suit, black aud white check shirt, black and white striped scarf, black hard felt hat, lace boots ; respectable appearance. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Hackney, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Police Station, Cannock, near Stafford.— Bow- street, February 2 Stolen on 10th ultimo, by means of housebreaking, at 16, Westgate- terrace, West Brompton : 9 Bracelets, one gold ( three large carbuncles), one gold band ( large garnets), one black enamel snake ( pearls and opals), one gold amethyst ( set with pearls), one carved peach stone ( set in gold), one ditto ( foreign setting), one silver snake, two silver band ; 2 Rings, one emerald and diamond, one opal ( set in light blue enamel aud diamonds) ; 4 pairs Earrings, one gold, one enamelled ( set in turquoise), one crystal ( red coral flies on stem), one silver- plated ( a ring with a bird flying through it, and a ball in its mouth ; 7 Brooches, one twisted gold, one gold ( leaf with garnet in centre), one small round pparl, one pebble ( set in silver), one silver (' A. E. J.'), one round silver ( with large bird engraved on it), one gold ( shape of a half- moon with four coins attached, and a star above); 2 Lockets, one large : crystal ( red coral fly on it), one silver ( with initials engraved) ; 3 Chains, one silver snake, one ordinary link ( plated), one Japanese watch ( silver and gold workmanship) with gold - r, Locket attached ( blue enamel cross on each side, inside hair and inscription ' A. W. Murray, died, with date), also a Malachite heart, a gold charm heart, ladder, and key ( the heart containing an amethyst); a gold Necklace, five gold locket pendants ; 2 Crosses, one gold ( attached to a gold coin Necklace on velvet), one Maltese ( silver) ; a gold square Seal, red cornelian, engraved with coat of arms, helmet with crest— a stork in bulrushes, on shield a naked savage with club, motto ' Semper paratus'; a pair of plain silver Links 4 Japanese Studs, set in silver ; 12 Operculums ( unset) frou Fiji Islands; a gold Pin, twisted head; a jet Locket, witl crystal fly, set in silver ; 3 Bracelets, one hair ( with broac band and gold horseshoe, do. clasp, engraved ' Black Bess died,' with date), one ditto ( set in gold, ' Jane Murray, died, with date), one agate ( set in gold) with gold Locket; 2 Seals one squat e gold with bloodstone, one antique ( small, Centurion engraved on stone). Daring the night of 29th ultimo, the residence of John Daborn, East Clandon, was broken into and stolen therein : a Bank of; England Note; 6 silver Tea- spoons, and a pair of Sugar- tongs, marked ' M. D.'; a blue Overcoat with velvet collar; a white handle Razor; several pieces of China several pounds of Tea ; about £ 1 worth of Postage and Telegrapn Stamps. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, February 2. During the night of 26th instant, Queeniborough Hall' was burglariously entered and stolen therein : three spirit Labels, with Chains for decanters, the Labels forming the letters ' G.'' W.'' B.', respectively, supposed electro plate ; a silver Tea- caddy- spoon, marked with an ornamental' H.' Information to Mr. Superintendent Moore, County Consta- bulary, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, January 30. On the night of 28th inst., the vicarage at Whittington, Salop, was broken into, and stolen: a silver Inkstand, engraved ' Presented to tha ' Miss Lloyds, on their leaving Rhagatt'; also between £ 6 and £ 7 in Money. Supposed by a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, large brown whiskers and moustache, hair cut short, very high forehead; dressed in a long dark pilot overcoat, dark trousers, round hard hat, strong boots, and large blue woollen muffler round ncck. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, January 30. Charged with housebreaking, near Londonderry, Bedale, on 24th instant, and stealing therefrom : a black ribbed cloth Coat, two outside pickets; a grey tweed Coat, large check pattern, very much worn ; two dark mixture tweed Vests; two pairs of dark mixture tweed Trousers— one pair of brown striped and bound round waist with red braid, the other dark ground with white thread through it; a pair of white moleskin Trousers, new; a sealskin Cap, part of sewing giving way on the crown; two white cotton Shirts ; and two pairs of blue woollen Stockings. Two men who were seen wearing the stolen property : one about 40 years of age, 5 ft 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, dirty appearance, dark hair, black whiskers and moustache, and shaven on chin, stout build, and a tramp. The other 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, dark ginger whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, slender figure, and a tramp. Was traced going into the North of England. Information to Mr. Superintendent Alderson, Constabulary Office, Leyburn, or to Inspector Holmes, Constabulary Office, Bedale, N. R., Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 30. charged on a warrant with No. 8246, and a gold Geneva capped, and jewelled in 8 holes : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, long thin features, full mouth, shows his teeth sligl^ ly, walks quick and erect, turns out his toes; dressed in black jim crow hat, black cloth coat, v ith velvet collar, dark vest, light striped trousers. He served his apprenticeship at Birmingham, and his mother is supposed to be living at Nottingham, a dressmaker. Information to Mr. Superintendent Barbor, Devon Constabulary, D Division, Honiton.— Bow- street, February 4. Description of JOHN PARKINS, charged with Fowl stealing, at Great Hampden, on 9th ultimo : he is 40 years of age, 5 fe t 9 inches high, dark' hair and whiskers, shaves under the chin, full face, thiclf lips, native of Ellesborough, he is well known at King's Langley, and Chipperfield, Herts, where he lived from 1872 to 1878. Information to Inspector Andrews,. Wendover, Tring, who holds tlje warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- strest, February 4. Description of JOHN HEATH, charged with stealing Money; it is believed he will emigrate if possible. He is 28 or 29 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, very long brown whiskers and moustache, medium build very red lips, a little round shouldered, large broad nose ; dressed in a brown overcoat, and a, bowler hat, which has had a knife pushed through the' crown; he is a gilder. Information to Chief Constable Windle, Hanley Borough Police, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 2. with stealing Money, from the Absconded, charged 0 Hydropathic Establishment, at Limpley Stoke, at which place he was a resident: SIDNEY HOWLETT, gentleman, about 40 years of age, married, about 5 feet 5 inches high, florid complexion, hair turning grey, whiskers, and mous- tache rather large, stout build; dressed in a blue serge suit, sometimes wears a black dress coat, elastic- side boots, with toe- caps, flat crowned deerstalker hat, usually wears an eye- glass on the right eye, has a gloomy look, and is very reserved in his manner ; he is supposed to have friends living at Southwick- place, Hyde Park, London, and at Paddington. Information to Inspector Ghey, Wilts Constabulary, Brad- ford- on- Avon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 2. Description of THOMAS GABY, labourer or collier, wanted on warrant at Alfreton, charged with stealing from his lodgings a Suit of black cloth Clothes; a Suit of plaid ditto, worn ; a grey tweed Jacket; a pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new; a pair of lace- up Shooting. Boots, partly worn, man's size ; and a silver Albert Guard : he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, with a few whiskers down side of face, lost little finger of right hand, and limps a little when walking; is a native of Long Billing- ton, Lincolnshire, and has a wife living at Rochdale, where he is also said to be wanted for neglect of family.
