The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and « Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks qf Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It if requested that all communications for the pnrpoM of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in retaanoe to the POLICE GAZETTE may be mane and addressed to tin Editor, Polios Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. • » • Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested oopy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter* addressed to the Editor MMMt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Ths Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and at Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offioe Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. REWARD BILLS. Handbills or other advertisements offering rewards for. the discovery of stolen property, or the detection of crime, forwarded for insertion in tjie Police Gazette, or for distribution by the Metropolitan Police, must state clearly:— ( 1). The amount of the reward. ( 2). The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. The following form is suggested. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of CHARLES SPICK, late of Nottingham, who is charged with forging and uttering a Bill of Exchange for j£ l00 14s. lid. with intent to defraud ; 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, side whiskers, no moustache or beard, has been employed as a cleik, he may attempt to leave the country. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehehsion.— Bow- street, February 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on 30th| ultimo, from the person at Liverpool, a gold sight hunter Watch, black enamelled figures, pendant winder, plain cases, barrel edged, white enamelled dial with seconds, gold hands, maker— Joseph Penlington, Liv— No. 2331 j a massive gold Albert Chain. ' hook; a gold oval- shaped Locket Pencil- case, blue enamelled, gold Horse Shoe. .£ 10 giving informatior '' offender or off'' formatio" Bow woollen Shirt. Supposed by two men : first about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, long dark whiskers, sharp features, black stiff billycock hat, dark mix- ture suit, appears respectably dressed. 2nd from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in a pair of light cord trousers, a black jacket, with white slop underneath, a close fitting cap with peak, heavy boots, and had the appearance of a navvy. One of the men was carrying an old joiner's bass, suppose to contain the stolen property. It is supposed one of the men will be wearing the dark olive diagonal worsted cloth over- coat. Entrance obtained through the roof. Information to Chief Constable Pole, Town Hall, ; Halifax.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Hooley- hill, Audenshaw, between 330p. m. and 9p. m. on 1st instant: 1 spade ace Guinea, slightly bent at the edge, and far worn ; and about 3s. in copper Money. Entrance effected to the house by means of a skeleton key. The drawers and boxes in the house have been forced open by means of some flat implement about J- inch broad. Also from a dwelling house at Hooley- hill, between 6 p. m. and 10T5p. m. on 1st instant: 10s. in Silver. The marks on the boxes and drawers at both houses correspond. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ludlam, County Police Office, Hurst, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen, by mean8 of house- breaking, between 6.15 p. m., and 8 p. m. 1st instant: £ i 10s. in Gold and Silver; a gold Brooch, moveable centre, one side for photo, being empty, the other side containing a small quantity of light brown hair, with new brass pin recently attached ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, diamond pattern three links; a gold scarf Pin, twisted, diamond pat'ern ; a pair of wooden Nut- cracks, forming figure of man's face ; a pair of gold plated sleeve Links, black stone with white stripe acr oss ; a sleeve Link similar pattern ; a dessert Spoon ; two electro- plated table Spoons ; a pair of German- silver Sugar- tongs ; a common imitation gold Brooch, horse shoe pattern, with a piece of silk ribbon attached; a blue pilot Overcoat, plain collar, black covered buttons, pockets on each outside, puce and black lining, been repaired right sleeve, part worn; a pair of dark grey cloth Trousers, part worn, bound with white braid, with a pair of coloured elastic Braces attached ; a black hard felt billycock Hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Longden, Bilston, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, February 4. Description of a man who is connected with the burglaries that are taking place in Shropshire and the adjoining counties : he is a convict on license, having been convicted at Radnorshire Assizes, March, 1870, in the name of THOMAS COPE, for burglary, and sentenced to 10 years penal servitude : he is 43 years of age, 5 feet 3f inches high, dark hair, large dark whiskers, heavy moustache, high fore- head, large scar on left side, broad hips, third finger of right hand contracted, anchor on left arm, mole on front of neck ; dressed in a long dark overcoat, black felt hat, dark cloth trousers, strong boots, long muffler round neck ; he was born in Manchester, and has resided at the Rhos, Denbighshire, he has a small carpet bag with him. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Wrexham.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen on 2nd instant, by means of housebreaking, at Kidderminster: about 6 new Suits, men's, all loose Jackets or Coats ; a Coat and Trousers belonging to new suit, brown colour ; 2 pairs of new Boots, men's, sewn, elastic- sides, size 7 and 8 ; a number of Stockings, in packages ; a quantity of Scarves and Mufflers; numerous Jackets, Ulsters , and Coats, which were in pledge with the tickets on them; a new plaid Shirt, red mixture, of woollen material; a Table- cloth, red and purple mixture. Also from the house of Mr. Finnigan, of Pendleton, ( supposed entered by means of false keys), between 2' 30 and 6 30 p. m. 30th ultimo : a plain gold wedding Ring ; a keeper Ring, chased; a black coburg cloth Dress, with quilted bottom ; a black coburg cloth Dress, with four flounces, fashionably made up; four pairs of grey knitted man's woollen Socks; a pair knitted Socks; a plum- Coloured Paisley Shawl; two men's white linen Jackets, single- breasted, and pockets at each side ; a man's round bowler Hat, nearly new ; a pair of Trousers and a Vest, man's size, made from brown tweed; a black cloth double- breasted Yest; a white cotton twill Sheet, marked ' M.' in red cotton; a woman's white flannel Skirt, nearly new ; a pair of woman's kid Boots, 5 Bize, with toe- caps and elastic- sides ; a pair of woman's leather BootB, elastic- sides, 6 size ; a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, recently soled and heeled ; a white cotton Muffler ; a red Pocket- handkerchief; a white Pocket- handkerchief; three cotton Pillow- cases; six silver tea Spoons, plain pattern ; a red coburg Skirt, with two rows of black braid at the bottom. Remanded at Lambeth Police Court, until 9th instant, for being upon the roof of a jeweller's shop with housebreaking implements in his possession : DANIEL MURRAY, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, large scar left side of forehead, scars between eyebrows, on back, and between thumb aud forefinger left hand, first joint third left finger deficient, anchor and diamond and five large vaccination marks on left arm, six front teeth deficient, two in lower, four in upper jaw ; dressed in blue pilot overcoat, velvet collar, Bide pockets, dark mixture suit, black and white check shirt, black and white striped scarf, black hard felt hat, lace boots ; " respectable appearance. Between 6 and 8 a. m. on 27th ultimo, a dwelling house at Mill- street, Cannock, was entered and stolen therein : a scarlet and black small plaid woollen Scarf Shawl, a black and white woollen Shawl, a woman's black sleeved plain Bodice, with jet buttons, and a pair of light j- watertight Boots, lightly nailed, all part worn. Information to Inspector Robinson, Detective Office, Moor- street, Birmingham.— Bow- street, February 2. During the night of 29th ultimo, the residence of John Daborn, East Clandon, was broken into and stolen therein : a Bank of England Note; 6 silver Tea- spoons, and a pair of Sugar- tongs, marked ' M. D.'; a blue Overcoat with velvet collar; a white handle Razor; several pieces of China ; several pounds of Tea ; about £ 1 worth of Postage and Telegraph Stamps. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, February 2. During the night of 26th instant, Queeniborough Hall' was burglariously entered and stolen therein : three spirit Labels, with Chains for decanters, the Labels forming the letters ' G.' ' W.'' B.', respectively, supposed electro plate ; a silver Tea- caddy- spoon, marked with an ornamental ' H.' Information to Mr. Superintendent Moore, County Consta- bulary, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, January 30. On the night of 28th inst., the vicarage at Whittington, Salop, was broken into, and stolen: a silver Inkstand, engraved ' Presented to tho ' Miss Lloyds, on their leaving Rhagatt' ( also between £ 6 and £ 7 in Money. Supposed by a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, large brown whiskers and moustache, hair cut short, very high forehead ; dressed in a long dark pilot overcoat, dark trousers, round hard hat, strong boots, and large blue woollen muffler round neck. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bcno- street, January 30. Charged with housebreaking, near Londonderry, Be dale, on 24th instant, and stealing therefrom : a black ribbed cloth Coat, two outside pi ckets; a grey tweed Coat, large check pattern, very much worn ; two dark mixture tweed Vests ; two pairs of dark mixture tweed Trousers— one pair of brown striped and bound round waist with red braid, the other dark ground with white thread through it; a pair of white moleskin Trousers, new; a sealskin Cap, part of sewing giving way on the crown; two white cotton Shirts ; and two pairs of blue woollen Stockings. Two men who were seen wearing the stolen property : one about 40 years of age, 5 ft. 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, dirty appearance, dark hair, black whiskers and moustache, and Bhaven on chin, stout build, and a tramp. The other 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, dark ginger whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, slender figure, and a tramp. Was traced going into the North of England. Information to Mr. Superintendent Alderson, Constabulary Office, Leyburn, or to Inspector Holmes, Constabulary Office, Bedale, N. R,, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 30. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. During the night of 28th ultimo, a Sheep was killed in the Hill field at Chadwell Court farm, Sheriff Hales. And during the night of 29th ultimo, 2 Sheep were killed in the Long Common field, Chadwell Grange, Sheriff Hales, and one Shoulder and part of one Leg taken away. Stolen, on 23rd instant, from Stanwich : a grey Cob, 14 hands high, rough, in good condition, not shod, the property of John Allen, Irthlingborough ; also a dark brown Pony, 12 hands high, few white hairs on back, from saddle, the property of Amos Pinnock, of Irthlingborough, Information to Mr. Superintendent Bailie, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, January 30. ' Remanded until 4th Proximo, charged with Cattle steal- ing : JOHN WALKER WAITES, a joiner by trade, 44 yeart of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes; light brown hair and moustache, slender build. riund shouldered; dressed in a snuff States he has been a bread the officer in charge of knows him, also 22, Burley- r^ Spencer- ' charged on a warrant with stealing a gold Geneva Watch, No. 8246, and a gold Geneva Watch, gold dome and dial, capped, and jewelled in 8 liole3: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fajight build, fin- ir complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, long thin features, full mouth, shows his teeth slightly, walks quick and erect, turns out his toes; dressed in black jim crow hat, black cloth coat, - with velvet collar, dark "> 9t," light striped trousers. Ho served his apprenticeship at Birmingham, aud his mother is supposed to be living at Nottingham, a dressmaker. Information to Mr. Superintendent Barbor. Description of JOHN PARKINS, charged with Fowl stealing, at Great Hampden, on 9lh ultimo : he is 4Q years of I age, 5 fe t 9 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, shaves under I the chiD, full face, thick lips,' native of Ellesborough, he is well known at King's Lang- ley, and Chipperfield, , Hej ta, where he lived ftom 187210 1878. information to Inspector Andrews, Wendover, Tring, who holds the warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- strest, February 4. « •• Description of JOHN HEATH, charged with stealing Money; it is believed be will emigrate if possible. He is 28 or 29 years of age, but looks older, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, very long brown whiskers and moustache, medium build very red lips, a little round shoiddered, large broad nose ; dressed in a brown overcoat, and a bowler hat, which has had a knife pushed through the4 crown; he is a gilder. Information to Chief Constable Windle, Hanley Borough Police, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 2. Absconded, charged with stealing Money, from the Hydropathic Establishment, at Limpley Stoke, at which place he was- a resident: SIDNEY HOWLETT, gentleman, about 40 years of age, married, about 5 feet 5 inches high, florid complexion, hair tnrning grey, whiskers, and mous- tache rather large, stout build; dressed in a blue serge suit, sometimes wears a black dress coat, elastic- side boots, with toe- caps, flat crowned deerstalker hat, usually wears an eye- glass on the right eye, has a gloomy look, and is very reserved in his manner ; he is supposed to have friends living at Southwick- place, Hyde Park, London, and at Paddington. Information to Inspector Ghey, Wilts Constabulary, Brad- ford- on- A von, whq holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, February 2. Description of THOMAS GABY, labourer or collier, wanted on warrant at Alfreton, charged with stealing from his lodgings a Suit Of black cloth Clothes; a Suit of plaid ditto, worn ; a grey tweed Jacket ; a pair of elastic sid^ Boots, nearly new ; a pair of lace- up Shooting Boots, partly worn, man's size ; and a silver Albert Guard : he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 Inches high, brown hair, with a few whiskers down side of face, lost little finger of right hand, and limps a little when walking ; is a native of Long Billing- ton, Lincolnshire, and has a wife living at Rochdale, where he is also said to be wanted for neglect of family. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Cqope, Alfreton, Derbyshire.— — Bow- street, February 2. Charged on warrant with embezzling £ 3 10s. 3d., at Tudhoe, on 30 th ultimo : EDWARD DICKEN, a coal miner, aboltt 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stoutish figure, rather round shouldered, short neck, fresh complexion, broad forehead, has lost nearly all his teeth out of upper jaw, no whiskers, brown or ginger moustache and chin ender, dark hair; dressed when last seen in dark suit, very much worn, and clogs. Is a native of Chirk, North Wales, but has worked a good deal about Hanley and the Potteries. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Dunn, County Police Office, Durham, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 2. Stolen at Stoke- on- Trent, between 3 and 6' 30 p. m. 28th instant : a dark blue ulster pilot Overcoat, vejvet collar, black bone buttons, and has a strap round the waist. Supposed by a man who called at the office and said he was a solicitor's clerk, about 43 years of age, 5 feet 8 indies high, dirty looking, full red face, has no whiskers or moustache. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Boio- street, January 30. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. JOHN MOSS, charged on warrant at Wallingford, with obtaining by false pretences £ 2, & c., advertised in Police Gazette, of 30th ultimo, has been apprehended, at Reading. Information to Mr. Superintendent^ Borlase, County Police Station, Wallingford, Bucks.— Bow- street, February 4." Description of JAMES PRIOR, of 458, Strathmore- terrace, Cable- street, East London, charged on warrant with obtaining £ 2 by false pretence : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, grey eyes, light brown hair, fresh com- plexion, round face, few light whiskers on chin, stout build ; dressed in dark trousers, fine black cloth jacket, and a water- mans cap. Now supposed to be at sea in a collier. Informa- tion to the Chief Constable, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.— Bow- street, February 4. Information to the Inspector oil duty, City of London Police, Bow- lane Station, London, B. C.— Bawstreet, January 30. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from his home, at Upwood Farm, Doveridge, Derbyshire, on 3Uth ultimo : MARY SUMMER, 46 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, of weak intellect ; dressed in blue serge dress, much worn on sleeves, ne\ f pair of lace- up boots, had no jacKet or bonnet on. It is feared some ill has befallen her.
