The Director of Criminal Investigations considers it tight to bring to the knowledge of Chief Officers of Police, that two cases have recently occurred of Larceny of Jewellery by Housebreaking, during the Dinner Hour, by means of a ladder brought from adjacent premises. This information is circulated, as, during the last two years, there have been scarely any offences of this description, and it is possible that Chief Officers of Poliee may desire to warn Householders as much to secure their property, ladders, etc,, as in the event, of a felonious entry being discovered, to make the cutting off the retreat of the thieves the first object. For the Metropolitan Police to render such effectual assistance to Constabulary. Forces, as the Commissioner would wish, it is, in cases of Burglary and Housebreaking, of especial importance, for them to have immediate aud full information, as, a few hours' delay frequently destroys the possibility of obtaining any legal evidence.
