MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 21st instant, the body of a female infant child, was found on1 a dung- heap in Percy- street, Ashton- under- Lyne, wrapped in a piece of black mantle cloth, supposed to be a portion of a woman's jacket. Verdict at the inquest : ' . Found dead on a dung- heap, died from exposure, want of care and attention.' Information to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, To ivn Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street, December 26". FORGERY. Absconded charged on a warrant with Forgery,: EDWARD WILSON, alias GEORGE GREY, late of 27 Woodlea Road, Church Street, Stoke Newington, 34 years of a^ e, 5 feet 10 inehes high, brown hair ( cut short), no whiskers or moustache, broad face, thick set; dress, grey suit, billycock hat, sometimes wears a long dark grey ulster, or white mackintosh, frequents billiard rooms. His mother resides at No. 5, Duncan Terrace, Islington. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 20, Old Jewry, E. C- Bow- street, December 22. ROBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSOIf. Stolen from the person with violence ' by three men, on the Pontefract- road, South Featherstone, about 11.30 p. m., on 20th instant ; a gold lever Watch, No. 3375, white dial, sunk seconds, had attached a dull solid gold curb pattern Albert Guard,' 18 carat' stamped on each link, a Seal with swivel, green and dark blood red stone, with a white mark across the red side ; a brown leather Pocket- book, containing two new £ 5 Bank of England Notes, and other Documents ; also about 32s. in Gold and Silver. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract. — Bow- street, December 24. Stolen from the person in Mayfield- road, Moss Side, between 3 and 4 p. m. on 15th instant : a green Russian leather Purse, silver mounted and Hall marked, containing 5 or 6 Shillings in Silver, some Bills, a receipt Stamp, and a packet of Needles. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 ft. 8 oi 9 inches high, brown hair, cut short, bright and prominent eyes, very fresh complexion, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark cutaway coat, low black felt hat, and long shoes. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, December 19. Stolen during the night of 18th instant, at Woodstock, Oxon : a gold hunter Watch, half open face, maker, Webster, Cornhill, No. 11025 ; a gold Albert Chain, Locket, Key and Pencil attached; a gold Pin, horse shoe shape, set with pearls; a gold ditto, with blue stones and diamonds ; a gold Pin with a fly ( mosaic work) ; 3 onyx Studs, set in gold ; 3 coral Studs set in gold ; 2 enamel Eyes set in gold ; a gold Thimble, set with corals ; a gold Pencil- case:; a black silk Scarf with flowers ; a black and red Ditto ; a pair of white kid Gloves ; a black Melton Overcoat with two hip pockets, one inside breast pocket, and one small ticket do.; a dark blue Coat, one inside breast pocket, and two skirt do.; a pair of dress Trousers, fine black cloth ; 2 pairs of brown woollen Drawers ; a Merino under Shirt, marked ' H. I. T. ; 2 flannel Shirts, one grey ; a pair of Shoes with toecaps ; a pair of web Braces ; an onyx Necklet; and several pairs of Socks, one pair silk, marked ' H. I. T.' £ 5 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to a conviction. Supposed by a tramp who dressed in the stolen clothes which are much too large for him, and left his own in the house. Information to Chief Constable Owen, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, December 26. Between 11' 40 p. m. 13th, and 8' 30 a. m. 15th instant : a lock- up shop in the Market- place, Willenhall, was entered, and stolen therein : two men's Chester Overcoats, lined with b. ack lining, two outside, aud one left breast pockets ; a man's blue Chester Overcoat, double- breasted, blue nap, dark lining, one pocket on each side, and one left breast; seven boy's blue pilot reefer Jackets, check lining, two outside pockets ; twelve pairs of men's Trousers, fly fronts and flaps, all lined with twill, various patterns ; five boy's Ulsters, blue nap, some of them lined with black lining ; two men's pilot Reefers, lined with grey cloth, two inside pockets ; eight pairs of men's striped Braces; six pairs of boy's Trousers, brown cord, black bone buttons ; five men's dark cloth Vests, double- breasted, roll collars, black bone buttons; three youth's g"- ey Suits, with brown stripes; a man's Suit, dark pattern, black bone buttons. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Longden, Bilston, Staffordshire.- Bow- street, December 24. Between 11 pm. on 17th and 4 a. m. on 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Samuel Rutter, farmer, Tilston Fernell, near Tarporley, was broken into and stolen therefrom : a light brown Overcoat, brown velvet, collar, dark silk lining, nearly new ; a dark brown Overcoat, plaid lining; a black frieze , ditto, black velvet collar, dark lining, much worn; 12 calico printed Sbirts, various patterns, large and small sizes ; a woollen plaid Shirt; 8 pairs of woollen home- knit Socks, drab and grey ; a muffler, fish and other pattern. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Mayho, Constabulary Office, Oakinere, Northwick, Cheshire.— Bow street, December 22. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 6 and 8' 15 p. m. on 20th instant, from Dean Cottage, Oxford- road, Southampton : a lady's small gold Watch, white face, lady and child on'back, long gold Chain attached, arid gold Locket shape of heart; an old silver double- cased Watch, without hands or glass, a gold Locket and Chain attached ; a gold Ring with a blue Btone and pearls at side ; a gold Ring with letters ' M. A. H.' and ' S. M.. R.'; a pair of gold Earrings, round ball in centre ; a very small gold Brooch, with plaited hair in centre and amethyst round outside; a sealskin Purse, con- taining some old. Coins and a Franc Piece with a hole in it a very small Knife; a gold watch Key, very much worn; a pair steel Bracelets, snake pattern ; and two sets of false teeth. Information to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, Bow- street, December 22. castle same day) : THOMAS WARD, stated he resided at Maling's Rigg, in Sunderland, which is false : he is about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, dark hair, cut short, little or no whiskers; dressed in dark shooting coat, dark trousers, muffler, and fur cap. Information to Chief Constable Nicholson, Detective Office, Sunderland, Durham.— Bow- st., December 22. The Pony advertised in Police Gazette of 17th ultimo, and following dates, as having been stolen from Hall Green, on night of llth ultimo, has been recovered, and ajso the Bridle. It was sold by a man about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and eyes, thin features, large nose, round shoulders, dark moustache, and slight dark beard; was wearing a long blue overcoat, soft billycaek hat, with wide brim, and dark check trousers. The man above, referred to offered a dark brown Pony for sale on 7th ultimo in Bir- mingham. Information to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Solihull, or to Inspector Prosser, Acocks Green, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, December 22. BUB. GLARY AK'D HOUSE BREAK! MGr. IMPORTANT CAUTION. Jewel Burglaries. The Director of Criminal Investigations considers it right to bring to the knowledge of Chief Officers of Police, that two cases have recently occurred of Larceny of Jewellery by Housebreaking, during the Dinner Hour, by means of a ladder brought from adjacent premises. This information is circulated, as, during the last two years, there have been scarely any offenoes of this description, and it is possible that Chief Officers of Police may deaire to warn Householders as much to secure their property, ladders, etc., as in the event of a felonious entry being discovered, to make the cutting off the retreat of the thieves the first object. For the Metropolitan Police to render such effectual assistance to Constabulary Forces, as the Commissioner would wish, it, is, in cases of Burglary and Housebreaking, of especial importance, for them to have immediate and full HORSE AMD CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Sheffield, on 16th instant: an iron grey Mare, rising 4 years old, about 14 hands high, short dock tail, long mane, is in a rough condition, and shod all round. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Jackson, Central Police Offices, Sheffield.— Bow- street, December 22. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Mare, Cart, & c., recovered: EDWARD P. STANLEY, 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, high cheek bones, rather pointed nose, red at tip, grey and sunken eyes, brown hair and whiskers, slight moustache, rather slight figure, splay footed, speaks through his nose, and has a bad, cold. Late of Chesham, Bucks, trade a currier, and worked at Birmingham about 12 months ago, 5 months ago be became commercial traveller to J. and E Reynolds, wholesale boot and shoe manufacturer, Chesham, Bucks, he stayed at the Bear hotel, Lewes, on 15th and 16th instant, and left Lewes by 9' 27 a. m. train, for Croydon, and was last seeir at Willesden Railway Station, about 12 noon, on 17th instant; he was then dressed in a dark suit, dark long overcoat, low crown hard felt hat, worn back of head, and high shirt collar. His wifes friends are supposed to live at 5, Baker- lane, New Town, Ealing, of the name of Mr. R. Guire or Giner. Information to Chief Constable's Office, or Mr. Superintendent Osbon, Lewes, Sussex,— Bow- street, December 22. Charged on warrant with stealing a Horse from Sunder- land, on 16th instant, ( recovered, having been sold at New- LAPCENY AHD EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on 23rd instant, at Compton, near Ilsley, Berks : i> 12 in & old in a small double flannel Bag, with a running string round it; also a brown Bilk Umbrella, with a black snake handle. By a young woman who took lodgings at the house for a night, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, slight figure ; had with her a black leather Bag, about 12 or 14 inches wide ; dressed in a brown stuff gown, black alpaca jacket, with pockets on hips, and a woollen crosS- over round, her shoulders, black straw hat trimmed with black ribbon and a violet feather, a black fall, aud . lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks.- Bow- street, December 26. Absconded from Pontypridd, on the morninir of 18th instant,''' verged on a warrant with embezzlement: . J ALTER WHITTICK, gasfitter and late superintendent of the Water Works at Pontypridd, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, grey eyes, and stout build : he is a native of near Bath ; dressed in dark clothes, black boWler bat, dark colour overcoat, muffler round neck, and carried a portmanteau when last seen ; he may endeavour to emigrate. £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. Information to Mr. Superintendent Matthews, Pontypridd, Glamorganshire. Bow- street, December 26. Charged with stealing on 20th instant, from a common lodging house at Paulton : 2 German silver Teaspoons, much . worn ; about £ 7 Gold and Silver ; a black leather Porte- monnaie, with brass clasp : WILLIAM COFFEE, has worked at a colliery, about 21 years of age, 5 feet high, dark complexion, black hair and eyes, slight build, sharp features ; dressed in hard bowler hat, black ribbed coat, dark plaid vest and trousers, lace- up boots much worn. WILLIAM MASON, supposed a sawyer, has been employed as a navvy, and been in the Army, 40 jrears of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale complexion, grey eyes, brown hair and moustache, thin face, downcast look ; dressed in brown hairy cap, with ear- flaps, grey coat with hip pockets, much worn, dark vest, light moleskin trousers, very dirty, and navvy boots. MARY ANN MASON, sister to Coffee, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, slight made, black hair, and very full black eyes ; dressed in old white straw hat, trimmed with black, magenta dresa trimmed with narrow black velvet aud bows, panniers and two flounces, elastic- side boots. Has a boy about 12 months old. Supposed to belong to Stratford- on- A? on. Information to Mr. Superintendent Emson, Somerset Con- stabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, December 26. Stolen from the Depot of 23rd Regiment of R. W. Fusiliers, Wrexham, on the morning of 24th instant : 2 pai « s of Trousers, one regimental, one black cloth ; 2 Towels, No. 806.; 2 watch Guards, one silver, long links, one brass ; 1 pawn Ticket for watch, No. 20178; 2 Coats, one pepper and salt, one tweed ; 1 pair of men's spring- side Boots, 7 size ; 1 pair of Breeches and Leggings, light woollen cord ; 1 pair of regimental Leggings, numbered ; 1 pepper and salt monkey Jacket; 1 pair of regimental Boots, No. 349 ; 1 pair of regimencal Trousers; 1 Glengarry; 1 Spoon and a Fork No. 341); 1 pair of Mitts, No. 349 ; 2 Neckties, one blue and white spots, one puce and white ; 1 gold horseshoe Pin ; 2 shoe Brushes, No. 349 ; 1 black Bag ; No. 349 ; 5 regimental Socks, No. 349, 2 regimental white cotton Shirts, No. 349 ; 2 regimental Shirts, No. 806 ; 1 regimental Razor, No. 806 ; t shaving Brush, No. 806; 1 tweed double- breasted Vest, two pockets ; 1 pair of tweed Trousers ; 2 white silk Neckties; 1 pair of regimental Boots, No, 2254; 1 pair of regimental Trousers, No. 2254 ; 1 white Shirt, marked ' R. D. M.' No. 45. Supposed by a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 8| inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, heart on right arm, tattooed left arm and hand. Supposed born at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, a labourer, supposed to have been a sailor. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- sireet, December 26. Further information respecting the property stolen in Hertford, advertised in Police Gazette of 22nd instant: the Trousers and two pairs of Drawers has since been found pledged, by a man of the same description advertised, who TS] to be apprehended and charged with having committed the robbery. With the articles pledged was a small sized dark tweed Waistcoat, with ' Augout' written ia ink at the fe& ck. Information to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford. — Bow- street,. December 26. Absconded from Standish, on 22nd instant, charged with stealing a leather Bag, containing £ 5S 9s. 4d., in Gold and Silver : an Irish labourer, who was employed by the Wigan Coal and Iron Company, at Prospect Pit, Standish, and was seen in Wigan, on 22nd instant: he is 27 years of age, about § feet 5 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, thick lips, stiff neck, and round shouldered. It is supposed that he intends to go to America. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Beetham, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 26. The man described in the Police Gazette of 19th instant, charged with stealing a woollen Shawl at Farringdon, has been apprehended, and sentenced to 4 months imprisonment : he gave the name of EDWARD CLARK-, of London, plasterer. Information to Mr. Superintendent Reece, Faring- don, Berks.— Bow- street, December 26. Absconded from Abergavenny on 23rd instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a black Shawl, white stripes in it; a white Petticoat; a black Dress, trimmed with crape ; a dark Cap; and a white pocket Handkerchief : FREDERICK MORGAN, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, and small ligbt moustache ; dressed m a daik cod, plaid trousers, and black bowler hat ; tattooed ' F. M.' on the back of hand and ' True Love' on breast, and is acc impanied by a woman who may be wearing the stolen articles. They are likely to be found at common lodging houses. Information to Mr. Superintendent Freeman, Abergavenny, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bo "- street, December 26. Stolen on the night of 14th instant, at Penrith : a black tweed sleeved Waistcoat, two pockets outside with black bone buttons ; a mixture cotton and wool Shirt, grey with white stripe. By a tramp who lodged in the house, and who left between 5 and 6am. on 15th instant, he is 20 to 24 yeara of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, round pale face, lost two upper front teeth, fresh complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers and vest, brown tweed coat, dark cap, may be wearing the stolen Waistcoat and Shirt,. He is a plasterer. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, Cumberland, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, Dae. 24. Stolen on 18th instant, at Clewer : a chimney sweeping Machine, consisting of 12 Canes and a Brush, one Cloth, one hand Brush, one Shovel, and four Bags, all nearly new. By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, moustache, medium build ; dressed in dark pilot jacket, dark tweed trousers, and dark cloth cap with peak, is a sweep and has been a soldier. Information to Mr. Superintendent Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer.— Bow- street, December 2i. Stolen at Whitchurch, Oxon, on 17th instant: a gentle- man's black dressing Gown, lined with red silk ; a pair of brown Stays ; a pair of lady's Drawers ; a pair of blaek kid Gloves ; a silver Thimble ; a black Veil; a white Tablecloth ; • 2 Sheets ; a brown satin Dress ; a cashmere Shawl; a black Jacket, trimmed with beads; and a quantity of white and black Lace. By ESTHER ADA CHAMBERLAIN, alias EDITH ABERY, alias KATE ALLEN, of Goring, Oxon, 21 years at age, 5 feet 1$ inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, long visage, birthmark on right arm, ringworm on left cheek, looks down when walking. She went in the name of KATE ALLEN at her lodgings. She has been convicted in Berks and Wiltshire of larceny, and was discharged from Devizes Gaol on 13th November last. Information to Mr. Superintendent Coates, Police Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- street, December 24. Absconded, charged with stealing 4 Sheepskins at Long- town, on 15th instaut, three marked ' E. P.,' one 2 strokes of ruddle on back, and very dirty : a man, a native of Hereford, • a collector of rags and bones, rabbit and sheepskins, sometimes sells herrings and earthenware, ^ nd caries goods in his bag for sale, 34 years.. of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, walks very upright, dark complexion, black hair and whiskers, dirty appearance; dressed in black soft hat, woollen scarf, dark coat buttoned at top, cord or fustian trousers, strong lace- up boots. Was last seen at Hay, Breconshire, on 16th instant. Generally travels Breconshire, Monmouthshire, and Glocester- shire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Hereford, or Police Sergeant Phillips, Abbey Dore, near Hereford.— Bow street, December 22. Charged with stealing a Shirt, at Chasetown, on 10th instant ( recovered) : MARTHA CROMPTON, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, very white looking, long narrow features; dressed in black hat, trimmed with black velvet, black dregs, and black and red striped shawl. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hackney, Brownhills, Walsall, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen at Cbasetown on 19th instant : a piir of daik mixture cloth Trousers, new ; a pair of Boots ; a Coat; and a pair of Stockings. By CHARLES THACKER, miner, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, slight, no moustache, nearly bald on top of head, near sighted, black eyes, medium build, supposed a native of Burton- on- Trent: dressed in a dark mixture cloth jacket, black cloth trousers aud vest, small olack and white plaid mixture woollen and cotton shirt, white paper collar, puce and white scarf, low hard narrow brimmed billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots, with brass eyelets, newly clumped. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hackney, Brownhills, Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. - Bow- street, December 22. Stolen, on 13th instant, at Long Melford, about 3 yards of Cloth, and a lad's Ulster Coat ( recovered). By a tramping man about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, very thin light hair, aud little or no whiskers ; dressed in black or blue cloth coat, rounded off at skirts, light trousers, either fustian or drabbett, black or blue cloth cheesecutter peak cap, and boots very much worn, broad and flat. Information to Mr.. Superintendent Chapman, Boxford, or to Inspector Grim wood, Long Melford, Suffolk.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen on 17th instant, at the Fox Inn, Worth : four grey Ducks ; two grey Drakes; and a grey and white Drake, value £ 1 4s. Also from same place on 18th : two large Turkeys, dark colour. Also stolen from Westhoathly, on 17th instant: ten Turkeys; some Hens ; and some Cocks, some white speckled, serae light grey, and some dark grey. Supposed by two men going about with a pony and cart, hawking oranges a « d potatoes, dark pony, and red striped cart: one man about 30 years of age, tall, light complexion, medium figure, talks very quickly, supposed native of Croydon ; dressed in light oilskin Overcoat, and black cap ; the other 20 to 25 years of age, short sandy hair ; dressed in dark clothes ; a right list slipper was found ( red and white), which the thief or thieves left Ljehind. They are supposed to Delong to the South of London, and are connected with two men in Brighton, who hawks sprats, & c., in country villages with grey pony, they blow a horn to attract attention, both parties were in the neighbourhood of Worth and West- hoathiy, on the evening of 17th or 18th instant.
