Absconded charged on a warrant with Forgery: EDWARD WILSON, alias GEORGE GREY, late of 27 Woodlea Road, Church Street, Stoke Newington, 34 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair ( cut short), no whiskers or moustache, broad face, thick set ; dress, grey suit, billycock hat, sometimes wears a long dark grey ulster, or white mackintosh, frequents billiard rooms. His mother resides at No. 5, Duncan Terrace, Islington. Information to Inspector McWilliam, iCity of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, F.. C— Bow- street, December 22. ROBBERY A ID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in Mayfield- road, Moss Side, between 3 and 4 p. m. on 15th instant : a green Russian leather Purse, silver mounted and Hall marked, containing 5 or 6 Shillings in Silver, some Bills, a receipt Stamp, and a packet of Needles. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 ft. 8 oi 9 inches high, brown hair, cut short, bright and prominent eyes, very fresh complexion, and no whisker,- J or moustache ; dressed in dark cutaway coat, low black felt hat, and long \ hoes. Information, at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, December 19. Stolen from the person at Wellington Smithfield, on 15th instant : a Cheque for £ 125, on the Staffordshire Joint Stock Bank, at Wolverhampton, No. A1008, drawn in favour of John Chard ; a Cheque for £ 50, on the Birmingham Dudley District Bank at Birmingham, drawn in favour of Thomas Butler by Henry Brettain, Junr., & Co. ; a Cheque for £ 27 5s. Id., No. D ' 176022, drawn by B. B. Smith ; a Cheque for £ 23 on the Staffordshire Joint Stock Bank at Walsall, No. C 60124, December 12th, 1879, drawn in favour of B. Cotton and Son, by A. Information to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, December 17. Stolen from the person on the evening of 11th instant, a gold lever keyless Watch, white dial, gold hands, makers ' George Hammond and Son, No. 39385,' with crest— a stag stauing on one leg and ' E. R.' underneath. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner of the watch for its recovery and the apprehension and conviction of the thief. Information at the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 17. For the Metropolitan Police to render such effectual assistance to Constabulary Forces, as the Commissioner would wish, it is, in cases of Burglary and Housebreaking, of especial importance, for them to have immediate and full information, as, a few hours' delay frequently destroys the possibility of obtaining any legal evidence. Officers are always on duty at Scotland Yard and Metro- politan Police Stations, to attend immediately to telegrams, and other urgent communications.— Bow- street, December 19. Betwren 11 p. m. on 17th and 4 a. m. on 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Samuel Butter, farmer, Tilston Fernell, near Tarporley, was broken into and stolen therefrom : a light browu Overcoat, brown velvet collar, dark silk lining, nearly new ; a dark brown Overcoat, plaid lining ; a black frieze Jditto, black velvet collar, dark lining, much worn ; 12 calico printed Shirts, various patterns, large and small sizes; a woollen plaid Shirt; 8 pairs of woollen home- knit Socks, drab and grey ; a muffler, fish and other pattern. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Mayho, Constabulary Office, Oakmere, North wick, Cheshire.— Bow street, December 22. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 6 and 8' 15 p. m. on 20th instant, from Dean Cottage, Oxford- road, Southampton : a lady's small gold Watch, white face, lady and child on back, long gold Chain attached, and; gold Locket shape of heart; an old silver double- cased Watcii, without hands or glass, a gold Locket and Chain attached; a gold Ring with a blue stone and pearls at side ; a gold Ring with letters ' M. A. H.' and ' S. M. R.'; a pair of gold Earrings, round ball in centre ; a very small gold Brooch, with plaited hair in centre and amethyst round outside; a sealskin Purse, con taining some old Coins and a Franc Piece with a hole in it; a very small Knife; a gold watch Key, very much worn a pair steel Bracelets, snake pattern ; and two sets of false teeth. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Handsworth, between 4' 30 and 5' 30 p. m. 13th instant,: a massive silver Locket and Chain, initials ' C. J. J.' ; a silver Brooch, ' Clara out in, oval shape ; a silver Brooch and Ear- rings to match a small lady's diamond Ring, pearls round turquoise on each side ; a ditto, emerald Net round with pearls ; a lady's hair Ring, with clasp of gold ; a ditto Ring, amethyst set round in crystals ; a ditto hair Ring, square setting, with 14 pearls round, with leaves of gold ou each side ; and a gold Bracelet, six large yellow cornelian stones set in, gold clasp to match. Information to Mr. Superintendent Whitehurst, Westbrom- wich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham. Bow- street, December 17. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. IMPORTANT CAUTION. Jewel Burglaries. The Director of Criminal Investigations considers it right to bring to the knowledge of Chief Officers of Police, that two cases have recently occurred of Larceny of Jewellery by Housebreaking, during the Dinner Hour, by means of a ladder brought from adjacent premises. This information is • circulated, as, during the last two years, there have been scarely any offences of this description, and it is possible that Chief Officers of Police may desire to warn Householders as much to secure their property, ladders, etc., as in the event of a felonious entry being discovered, to make the cutting off the retreat of the thieves the first object. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Sheffield, on 16th instant: an iron grey Mare, rising 4 years old, about 14 hands high, short dock tail, long mane, is iu a rough condition, and shod all round. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Jackson, Central Police Offices, Sheffield.— Bow- street, December 22. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Mare, Cart, & c., recovered: EDWARD P. STANLEY, 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ineces high, dark complexion, high cheek bones, rather pointed nose, red at tip, grey and sunken eyes, brown hair and whiskers, slight moustache, rather slight figure, splay footed, speaks through his nose, and has a bad cold. Late of Chesham, Bucks, trade a currier, and worked at Birmingham about 12 months ago, 5 months ago he became commercial traveller to J. and E Reynolds,- wholesale boot aud shoe manufacturer, Chesham, Bucks, he stayed at the Bear hotel, Lewes, on 15th and 16th instant, and left Lewes by 9' 27 a. m. train, for Croydon, and was last seen at Willesden Railway Station, about 12 noon, on 17th instant; he was then dressed in a dark suit, dark long overcoat, low crown hard felt hat, worn back of head, and high shirt collar. His wifes friends are supposed to live at 5, Baker- lane, New Town, Ealing, of the name of Mr. R. Guire or Giner. Information to Chief Constable's Office, or Mr. Superintendent Osbon, Lewes, Sussex,— Bow- street, December 22. Charged on warrant with stealing a Horse from Sunder- land, on 10th instant, ( recovered, having been sold at New- castle same day): THOMAS WARD, stated he resided a, t Maling's Rigg, in Sunderland, which is false : he is about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, dark hair, cut short, little or no whiskers; dressed in dark shooticg coat, dark trousers, mufiler, and fur cap. Information to Chief Constable Nicholson, Detective Office, Sunderland, Durham.— Bow- st., December 22. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged with stealing 4 Sheepskins at Long town, on 15th instant, three marked ' E. P.,' one 2 strokes of ruddle on back, and very dirty : a man, a native of Hereford, a collector of rags and bones, rabbit and sheepskins, sometimes sells herrings and earthenware, and carries goods in his bag for sale, 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, walks very upright, dark complexion, black hair and whiskers, dirty appearance; dressed in black soft hat, woollen scarf, dark coat buttoned at top, cord or fustian trousers, strong kree- up boots. Was last seen at Hay, Breconshire, on 16th instant. Generally travels Breconshire, Monmouthshire, and Gloeester- shire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Hereford, or Police Sergeant Phillips, Abbey Dore, near Hereford.— Bow street, December 22. Charged with stealing a Shirt, at Chasetown, on 10th instant ( recovered) : MARTHA CROMPTON, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, very white looking, long narrow features; dressed iu black hat, trimmed with black velvet, black dress, and black and red striped shawl. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hackney, Brownhills, Walsall, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen at Chasetown on 19th instant : a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers, new ; a pair of Boots ; a Coat; and a pair of Stockings. By CHARLES THACKER, miner, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, slight, no moustache, nearly bald on top of head, near sighted, black eyes, medium build, supposed a nativ e of Burton- on- Trent: dressed in a dark mixture cloth jacket, black cloth trousers and vest, small black and white plaid mixture woollen and cotton shirt, white paper collar, puce and white scarf, low hard narrow brimmed billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots, with brass eyelets, newly clumped. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hackney, Brownhills. Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a \ urv. mt for his apprehension.— Bow street, December - Stolen, on 13th instant, at Long Melford, about 3 yards of Cloth, and a lad's Ulster Coat ( recovered). By a tramping man about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, very thin light hair, aud little or no whiskers ; dressed in black or blue cloth coat, rounded off at skirts, light trousers, either fustian or drabbett, Mack or blue cloth c'neesecutter peak cap, and boots very much worn, broad and flat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Chapman, Boxford, or to Inspector Grim wood, Long Melford, Suffolk.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen on 17th instant, at the Fox Inn, Worth : four grey Ducks ; two grey Drakes ; and a grey and white Drake, value £ 1 4s. Also from same place on 18th : two large Turkeys, dark colour. Also stolen from Westhoat- hly, on 17th instant: ten Turkeys ; some Hens ; and some Cocks, some white speckled, some light grey, and some dark grey. Supposed by two men going about with a pony and cart, hawking oranges and potatoes, djwk pony, and red striped cart: one man about 30 vesrs of jura, fell Unlit. wmmti& um The Pony advertised in Police Gazette of 17th ultimo, and following dates, as having been stolen from Hall Green, on night of 14th ultimo, has been recovered, and also the Bridle. It was sold by a man about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and eyes, thin features, laige nose, round shoulders, dark moustache, and slight dark beard; was wearing a long blue overcoat, soft billycock hat, with wide brim, and dark check trousers. The man above referred to offered a dark brown Pony for sale on 7tii ultimo in Bir- mingham. Information to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Solihull, or to Inspector Prosser, Acocks Green, Warwiek- | ghire,— Bow- street, December 22. years age, tall, light complexion, medium figure, talks very quickly, supposed native " of Croydon ; dressed in light oilskin overcoat, and blackcap; the other 20 to 25 years of age, short sandy hair ; dressed in dark clothes ; a right list slipper was found ( red and white), which the thief or thieves left behind, They are supposed to belong to the South of London, and are connected with two men in Brighton, who hawks sprats, & c., in country villages with grey pony, they blow a horn to attract attention, both parties were in the neighbourhood of Worth and West- hoathly, on the evening of 17th or ISthinstant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Berry, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen at Gorton, between 9 a. m. and 7' 30 p. m. on 19th instant: a pair of lady's gold enamelled Ear- rings; a pair of lady's crystal Ear- rings, set iu gold, and Brooch to match ; a lady's gold dress Ring, set with three blue stones ; and about £ 3 in Gold and Silver. Supposed by 3 men, one about 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown or sandy hair, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed ia brown overcoat, tall hat, with broad brim. Another about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair aud whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, and black billycock hat. The other 27 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, fair complexion ; wore a white muffler round his neck. Also stolen a Prestwich, about 12 noon, on 20th instant : a cash Box, containing about £ 6 10s. an Gold, £ 2 in Silver, some lion Sixpences amongst them. Supposed by 3 men, one about 35 years years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh com- plexion, sandy whiskers and moustache, has the chin shaved; ' dressed in black overcoat grey trousers, and black billycock hat. _ Another about 30 years of age, 0 feet high, dark com- plexion, dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark over- coat, and billycock hat. The other about 50 years of age, 5 feet high, sallow complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustaehe turning grey; dressed in a brown overcoat, brown cloth trousers, wore a dark necktie, with a bright pin in the centre. All the men can be identified. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester. — Bow- street, December 22. Stolen on 20th instant, from a public house in Hertford, a pair of dark cloth Trousers, fly fronts, no linings, with light stripes, almost resembling a plaid ; three pairs of old cotton Drawers, and a linen Collar. Supposed by a man, who lodged there for the night, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 4 ins. high, brown hair, full face, dark complexion, no whiskers; dressed in a dark coat and vest, light trousers, black low- crown hard felt hat with narrow brim, and white muffler round his neck ; has the appearance of a groom or stableman, and talks much about horses. Information to Head Con- stable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford. — Bow- street, De- cember 22. Stolen between 6 and 10 p. m., on 20th instant, at Netton, Woodford, a silver Geneva Watch, small size, can be identified ; also 9 Sovereigns, and 2 Half Sovereigns, two men are suspected : one 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, long features, thinly built, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in a dirty white slop, cord trousers, nearly new, soft billycock hat, and navvy boots, supposed to belong to Frome, Somerset, The other 23 or 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, stoutly built, light complexion and hair, freckled, and round face ; dressed in old grey coat and dirty white slop under- neath, cord trousers, nearly new, and heavy boots, supposed to belong to Frome, Somerset. Informatioa to Mr. Superin- tendent Stephens, Salisbury.— Bow- street, December 22. Description of GEORGE F. SALTER, clerk, charged on warrant with embezzling Money, at Dudley : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair and moustache, whiskers shaved off, has a rather prominent nose, and very deep toned voice, and carries his head slightly forward when walking. Infor- mation to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 19. Absconded on 25th ultimo, from Yoxford : CHARLES WENTZEL, a German, a baker, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a brown suit of clothes, a light waterproof coat, and black felt hat ; charged with embezzlement. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gobbett, Hales- worth, or to P. C. Collins, Yoxford, Suffolk.— Bow- street, December 19. ARTHUR KETTEY, who absconded from Blackmore, Essex, on 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing Turkeys, as advertised in Police Gazette of 3rd iustant, is supposed to be in Yorkshire, where he has a brother. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Lennon, Chelmsford, Essex. — Bow- st., December 19. Stolen on 18th instant, at Faringdon : a large black • woollen Shawl, with fringe about 3 inches deep. By a man who took lodging at the house for one night: about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy whiskers; dressed in dark tweed jacket, light trousers, and light soft felt hat, wore a silver watch chain in waistcoat pocket; stated he had been working at Oxford. Information to Mr. Superintendent Reece, Faringdon, Berks.— Bow- street, Dec. 19. Stolen at Stjckport, about 4 p. m. on 17th instant: 5 gold Watches, one Hunting, centre seconds, No. 32,029 ; one Lever, gold dial, No. 3,207, makej's name Joseph Bloom- field, Ashton- under- Lyne; one gentleman's Lever, cream- coloured dial, maker Kent, Manchester ; one lady's Skeleton Lever, gold dial, No. 10,198, maker Whitmore, Bridge- street, Manchester; one lady's Geneva, gold dial. Supposed by a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark short beard and moustache ; dressed in fawn- coloured Overcoat, and black hard felt hat. £ 5 reward will be paid for the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recoveiy of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to Chief Constable Staples, Stockport. — Bow- street, December 19. Charged on warrant with embezzling £ 71 2s. 9d. : ROBERT B. MILLER, 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, sharp features, beard and moustache almost white, a native of Whitby, formerly a ship's captain, but lately occupied as a bailiff; stoops a little when walking, and is very talkative of his wealth ; dressed in a black and white checked ulster overcoat, hard or soft felt hat, and elastic- side boots. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne.— Bow- street, December 17. Stolen at Hassall, about 5' 30 a. m. on 10th instant : a black cloth Coat, short laps and waist, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, has been torn and mended near one of the outside pockets, made out of a great coat, man's size ; a man's dark grey cloth Coat, small square plaid, brown horn buttons, short laps, long waist, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast; a pair of man's lace- up Boots, with brass eyelet- holes, three hooks up each side, and recently mended ; a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, brass eyelet- holes, part worn. By a man employed there as farm labourer, said his name was ALBERT WILLIAMS, and came from Staffordshire, about 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, brown or sandy hair, blue eyes, stout build, short dirty beard, seal down centre of nose, and has recently had upper front tooth broken ; dressed in small black felt hat, black vest, brown corduroy trousers, . red check shirt, and red coloured cheap muffler. He left before any of the family were out of bed, and will likely be wearing one of the above coats, and pair of boots, as he left behind a pair of clogs, and his own coat, an old grey plaid, far worn ; he can make mats well. A reward will be given for his apprehen- sion, and recovery of the property, or iu proportion thereto. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hindley, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Sergeant Oldham, Sandbach, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 17. Stolen at Bolton : On 11th instant : a gold Geneva " Watch, No. 11138, engine turned case, far worn, gold dial and figures, dirty steel hands, and seconds hand, a cork- screw has been put in the inside, not finished. Between 10' 30 p. m. the 11th, and T30 a. m. the 13th inst. : an English silver lever Watch, cases far worn, and dingo in back, ' H. Helm, W. P.' engraved on back of case, had attached a gold Albert Chain, engraved links, with three- cornered gold pendant attached, with red glass in; also a man's black ribbed worsted single- breasted Coat, fine worsted buttons down the front, buttons high up in the neck, tw o pockets behind in skirts, one outside left breast, and ticket pocket, bound with braid ; a single- breasted Waistcoat, without collar, rather finer twill worsted than coat, three pockets in ; a pair of man's tweed cloth Trousers, fly fronts, raised seam down the legs, zig- zig pattern. By a youDg man • who lodged in the house two nights, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very stout build, rather dark complexion, clean shaved ; dressed in short dark cutaway coat, black billycock hat, supposed black and blue striped necktie, with a silver pin in it, imitation of Victoria Cross; said he came from Wigan. On 13th instant, a dark red Purse, with brass rim round, containing one Sovereign, andjj about 4s. in Silver ; a pair of man's black cloth Trousers, fall fronts, new ; a pair of man's dark blue corded cloth Trousers, fall fronts, new, 33 inches waist, rivited buttons, both pairs lined with calico ; a man's blue nap Chesterfield Overcoat, double- breasted, black velvet collar, black horn buttons, two pockets outside, and lined with plaid lining. By a joiner who lodged in the house one night, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slender build; dressed in cord trousers, tweed coat, and white muffler round his neck. On 13th instant, a brown ribbed fine cloth Overcoat, collar of same material, two pockets outside, ticket pocket, and one outside left breast, lined with brown stuff, nearly new. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, December 17. Further information with reference to license holder Z 999 FREDERICK GEORGE HANCOCK, advertised in Police Gazette of 10th March last, and who has not yet been apprehended : he is in the habit of taking lodgings in a town, calling at the villages round for work, as a watchmaker and repairer, leaving his card at public- houses, as soon as he has collected a good number of watches, he decamps with them, he is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, and has been identified as the man who committed similar offences at Kendal, in August last, in the nitffie of J. Crosby, at Market Harborough, in September last, in the name of H. Gibson, at Northampton, on 10th Novemter last, in the name of H.
