THE Police Gazette, OR BUE- MID- C Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John M'Grath, 14358, couvicted at Longford, county Longford, at Trinity Sessions^ on 23rd June, 1875, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 6 years penal servitude:— 46 years ofjage on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, married, has one child, is a shoemaker, born at Granard, resided before conviction at Granard, his friends reside at Longford; dark brown hair mixed with gray, brown eye ( right eye blind), brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, pockmarked, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, a number of small blue marks under right eye, and on left cheek and forehead from the effect of an accident by powder, body very much marked with small- pox ; large scar in left groin, varicose veins in left leg, lost one front and a number of upper back teeth. This convict was released on license from Spike Island Prison, 24th June, 1879 ; he left his residence • without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts are unknown. MISSING from Lusk Convict Prison, the convict whose description is subjoined, and who was last seen at 4 o'clock P. M., on the 3nd December, 1879:— Charles Douglass, otherwise Scott, 32 years of age at present, convicted 25th March, 1870, at Belfast, no trade or calliug, sometimes holder- up to boiler- makers; born in Belfast; resided before conviction in Belfast, where his friends reside; brown hair, no - whiskers, hazel eyes, brown eyebrows, prominent pose, large mouth, sallow complexion, small oval visage, dimple on chin, slight make, 5 feet 5J inches high, a small round blue mark on ball of each thumb, lost an upper front tooth; wore a jerry hat, da. k frieze monkey jacket, cord trowsers, printed barracan vest, shoes, all marked with letters L. P. Information respecting the above- named con- vict to be given at the Constabulary Stations, or to the Officer in charge of convicts at Lusk Prison, county Dublin. ' Notice.— reward of from £ 3 to £ 5 may be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government Prison. Application to be made to the Governor of the Prison. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any means whatever, aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and being convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servi- tude for any term not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. PA- RTICULARS relative to Convict John Nelson, 241- 2675, convicted at Belfast, borough of Belfast, at Borough Sessions, on 1st December, 187 » , for breaking into a counting- house with intent to steal, and two previous convictions for felony, aud sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 8 years Police Supervision:— 21 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is an Episcopalian, single, a labourer, born in Holywood, county Down, resided before conviction in Agnes- strert, Belfast, where his friends reside, brown hair, gray eyes, dark brown eyebrows, regular nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 4^ inches high, J. N. tattooed on left forearm. This convict was released on licence from Lusk Prison, the 23rd June, 1879, and went to Belfast. He has failed to report himself to the Royal Irish Constabulary since the 1st inst., and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt wiih under the 5th section of the Act 84 and 85 Vie,, cap. 112. General Prisons Board, November 37, 1879. ( 17818 M.— 29798.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Kelly, 319- 14245, convicted at Ennis, county Clare, at Michael- mas Sessions on 27th October, 1874, for burglary, and sentenced to 10 years penal servitude:— 30 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, born in Athlone, resident before conviction in Limerick, where his friends reside ; brown hair, bald on crown, hazel eyes, dark eyebrows, prominent nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost five upper and two lowei teeth. This convict was released on licence from Spike Island Prison, the 14th November, 1879, and went to reside in Dublin, on the 19th inst. he left his residence, 7, Bull- lane, without notifying same to Police, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 & 35 Vic,, cap. 113 General Prisons Board, November 24, 1879. ( 17702 M.— 26748). PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Purcell, 278- 2719, convicted at Dublin, county of the city of Dublin, at Trinity Sessions, on 8th June, 1875, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude :— 23 years of age on conviction, can read and right, is a Roman Catholic, married, is a slater, born in Denzille- street, Dublin, resided before conviction in Church- street, Dublin, his wife resides at 33, Church- street, Dublin; black hair, brown eyes, black eyebrows, ordinary nose ( has been broken,) medium mouth, sallow complexion, pockpitted, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 J inches high : pear on bridge of rose, left side of head, back of head, and under right eye; E. F. A. L. C., and some dots tattooed on back of left hand 5 I. anchor and dots on left wrist anchor on thumb. This convict was released on licence from Lusk Prison, the 7th August, 1879, and went to reside at 1, Sandwith- lane, Dublin, on the 5th inst., he notified his intention of going to Liverpool, but be has not reported himself to the Police here, and his present whereabouts are unknown. Magheross, seriously assaulted Festus Finnegan:— Good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, fresh face, medium make, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 90 years of age, dark or brown hair; clothes cannot be described; he is a carpenter's apprentice. DESCRIPTION of James Hare, native of Drumquin, who stands charged with having, on^ the^ 29th November, 1879, in the barony of Lower Strabane, parish of Ardstraw, fired at Bryan Molloy, a watcher to the Duke of Abercorn, at Ballyreenan:— Has a slight swagger when walking, speaks with a strong Northern accent, high cheek bones, small beard under the chin, moustache and chin shaved, there may be some cuts on his face and head; gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 11 inches high, about 66 years of age, dark hair turning gray ( worn pretty long), wore a hard round hat, old tweed coat, trowsers ( patched) and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who on the 24th November, 1879, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School, at Glencree. Edward Nowlan ( 1428), about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ordinary make, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, but very short, blue eyes, long and slightly cocked nose, ordinary mouth, long and good- looking visage; formerly belonged to 45, Lower Stephen- street, Dublin, where his par- ents reside. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers, > est, and jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), strong boots. Has two sisters in England, to whom he will en- deavonr to go, He is very smart at the blacksmith trade, and may seek employment with smiths. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if ariested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 17822 m.— 99803). Was living lor some years with one Cody at Glen- more, afterwards he began to ramble, and frequently visited workhouses for relief.
