POLICE Notice.—- It it requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. • » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that in information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ILetiers addressed to the Editor • ml be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AMD MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 5th instant, the body of a young man, named John Potter, - was found in the Floating Harbour, in the city of Bristol, between the Drawbridge and the Stone Bridge, with a wound on the chin about one inch and half long, and another wound in the throat. A coroner's jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some persr n or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, other than a person belonging to a police force, in the United Kingdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the said John Potter, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice net being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. A further reward of £ 100 will be paid by Mr. W. E. Perham, Exchange- buildings, Bristol, Solicitor, on behalf of the family of the deceased, to any person or persons, other than a Police Officer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Stolen by means of burglary, at Wigmore : thirty- two Sovereigns ; two Half- Sovereigns ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, small acorn pattern ; a pair of large round gold Ear- rings ; a broad gold Keeper, has been lately filed ; a gold Ring, with six pearls and one ruby ; a large Spanish Coin ( image king), about size of crown piece, date 1803. Supposed by two dirty looking whitesmiths, who had been repairing locks in the town : one about 50 years of age, the other 30 years of age, one slight, the other stiff, about 5 feet 2 inches high, dark hair and complexion. On 16th instant, the undermentioned houses were broken into, at Wellington, by means of skeleton keys : The house of Ann and Jane Clarke, King- street, and stolen therein : a black worked Chain, gold Beads and Eye- glass attached, small round Locket and Chain attached, and a pink Brooch, set in gold, and Is. Id. in Money. The house of Mr. Gunton, Mill Bank, and stolen : a gold Watch, cylinder escapement, No. 16761, maker Johnson, Liverpool, jewelled in four holes, aud black jet Chain attached; a gold Pencil- case, marked ' M. G.'; a gold Brot ch, oval shape, stone in centre; two common Brooches ; and £ 4 in Gold. Information to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, November 19. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 11th and 12th instant, at Tomfields, Kingsley : a man's silk Pocket- handkerchief, orange and puce colour, quite new; also a man's merino Muffler, mixture colour ; a silver verge Watch ( since recovered) ; steel Albert Chain ; a small Seal; and a small woman's Shawl. Supposed by a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, boyish face, medium build; dressed in hard bowler hat, dark tweed jacket, cotton cord trousers, slit about 2 ins. across right knee, and a strong pair of lace- up boots. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, oi to Sergeant Johnson, Ipstones, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 17. During the night of 11th instant, the dwelling house of Charles Stoddard, near Kingsley, Staffordshire, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : an old silver verge Watch ; a puce colour silk Handkerchief ; a merino muffler Handkerchief; and 24 Postage Stamps. By a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in black felt hat, dark jacket, and light moleskin trousers, and had the appear- ance of a farm servant. The Watch and Postage Stamps have been recovered. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Johnson, Ipstones, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen on 12th instant, by means of housebreaking : two old- fashioned pair cased silver Watches, Nos. 418 and 20. By a tramp about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy whiskers, rather light hair ; dressed in old brown cloth low hat, brown cloth jacket, cord trousers, and strong nailed boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Critchley, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, November 17. Stolen by means of burglary, from Uxbridge House) HORSE AMD CATTLE STEALING. RICHARD PERRY, gipsy, charged with stealing a Horse and Van, from Crescent- road, Woodford, and advertised in Police Gazette of 10th instant, has been apprehended, property not recovered.— Metrovolitan Police, N Division, November 21. Further information respecting the Pony stolen from Hall Green, on 14th instant, and advertised in Police Gazette of 17th instant ; it was traced through Stratford on the main POLICE GAZETTE. November 21 road to Banbury and Oxford, and was being ridden by a man about 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, thin features, large nose, dark hair, aud moustache, was wearing a long blue overcoat, and dark trousers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Solihull, or to Inspector Prosser, Acocks Green, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, November 21. The two cob Geldings, reported stolen on the 7th instant from a field at Beech Hill, Berks, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 14tli instant, have been found. Information to Inspector Pocock, Beading, Berks.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen on 6th instant, from a field near Middleham, Yorkshire : two Bullocks, one red, and one light roan, li year old. Information to Mr. Superintendent Alderson, Leyburn, North Biding Constabulary.— Nov. 19. The dark brown cart Horse, with roach back, reported stolen from a field near Byde Mill, Corsham, Wilts, adver- tised in Police Gazette of 17th instant, is recovered, and GEORGE SMITH, is charged with stealing the same : he is 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, sandy whiskers, beard, and mous- tache ; dressed in black coat and vest, light cloth trousers, laee- up boots, with brass eyelet holes, and hard felt hat ; states he is a native of Prestleigh, near Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Baldwin, Chippenham, Wilts.— Bow- street, November 19. Stolen on 11th instant, frsm Cornwall- mews, Lambeth : a bay mare Pony, 8 hands high, 7 years old, long mane and tail, rough coat,' in good condition. By a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in sleeve vest, cord front, fustian back, cord trousers, hard felt hat, a cab washer.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, November 17. Stolen on 12th instant : a bay Horse, 15 hands high, 48 or 68 branded on near hind quarter, over- kneed, white star on forehead, aged, in fair condition; also a hempen halter.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, Nov. 17. Stolen during the night of 15th instant, at Suttmers Farm, Chalfont St. Giles : a dark brown horse, 4 years old, 15 hands high, small star on forehead, small lump on outside near foie leg, below the knee, a small lump on the off side of belly, very light legged, cart breed, long mane and tail, and in good condition ; a red roan Mare, 2 years old, 14 hands 3 inches high, small star on forehead, mane short, having been rubbed, and long tail; 2 leather bit Halters, with curb chains and hempen reins, one with brass on winkers, and one hempen halter. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Breene, Police Station, Beaconsfield, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen at Hall Green, near Birmingham, during the night of 14th instant: a bay Mare Pony, about 14 hands high, small white star on forehead, both knees chippcd, old collar wounds on both shoulders, tail cut short, carries it slightly on one side when running, has a crack on the outside of near fore foot ; also a plaiu Saddle, rather worn, and a plain snaffle Bridle. £ 10 reward is offerred for the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the Pony. Information to Mr. Superintendent Solihull, or to Inspector Prosser, Police Office, Acocks Green, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, November 17. LARCENY AM EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Wyrley, on 17th instant, charged with stealing £ 3 15s. 6d. in Gold and Silver, a Geneva Watch, with brass case, white dial, and is deficient of minute hand: JAMES DANKS, a pianist, 26 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, rather stout, light complexion, light blue eyes, full face, short sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved, and a little bow legged ; dressed when last seen in long blua ulster, dark corded cloth jacket and vest, dark cloth striped trousers, low shoes, much worn, and low black hard felt hat. He is a native of Netherfcon, near Dudley, where his parents reside, is well known . in North and South Staffordshire, and frequents concert halls ' or public houses, at which places he takes engagements. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hackney, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Police Station, Cannock, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 21. , Stolen from Marden Park, Godstone, Surrey, on 9th instant, the property of Mr. Arthur Andrews: a silver Waiter, a silver Mug, and silver card Case, crest— a Negro's Head ; a lady's gold Watch, with name engraved inside ' Alice E. Coles,' and monogram outside; a skin carriage Rug, and sealskin Muff. The Watch was handed to a person having the appearance of a gentleman, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and mous- tache ; dressed in dark clothes, and soft felt hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bedford, Surrey Constabulary, God- stone.— Bow- street, November 21. Description of DANIEL FITZPATRICK, labourer, charged at Bolton with stealing on 17th instant : a gold Geneva Watch and Chain, which have since been recovered : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, pale complexion, proportionate make, large barn mark left of forehead, two vaccination marks on left shoulder, has served in the 3rd Brigade Artillery, and has been previously convicted of felony ; his mode of proceedure is to take lodgings at a private house, saying that he is working near the place, and when the inmate leave the house he commits a robbery. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 21. Absconded on 11th instant, from East Grinstead, charged with larceny ; property recovered: GEORGE EDWARD WHITE, alias MEDHURST, 24 to 25, years of age, 5 ft. 8 nches high, fair complexion, red face, grey eyes, ginger hair, curly, no whibkers, proportionate figure, and a labourer; dressed in cord trousers and vest, and black felt hat. He has been a soldier in Royal Artillery, from which he has a pen- sion, talks a great deal about India, attends beer- shops frequently, and occasionally works on new railway and drainage works, and went towards London. Information to Mr. Superintendent Berry, East Grinstead, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 21. A man pledged a gold Pendant in Manchester, which was stolen at Old Trafford, on 5th instant : he is iJsout 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in light grey tweed coat and vest, dark tweed overcoat, white faded muffler, and brown ribbed pot hat. He can be identified. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, November 21. Description of FRANCIS HENRY WATT, miller's clerk for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with having embezzled the sum of £ 6 10s., belonging to his employer Alfred Perry Scrivener : 20 years of age, 6 feet high, slender figure, dark complexion, dark brown hair, large ears, ismall whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a suit of dark tweed, long overcoat, and bowler hat. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Denson, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 19. Was convicted at Birmingham in 1873, and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for robbing his employers. At that time las wife was a 1 dresser' at one of the theatres. Stolen at the Lower House Llanymynch, Salop, during the night of 12th instant: a silver hunting Watch, number believed to be 27427, attached a small round silver Chain, cross- bar to end, with a plain Seal at one end ; 1 pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new, toecapped, four large square nails outside of right heel, man's size; 1 dark grey tweed Coat, very small plaid with pockets on hips, one inside left breast, three speckled buttons down front, to match the coat; also a nearly new Coat, light grey, with pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, a long narrow Strap, with a half round buckle, and a white Pocket- handkerchief with pictures of men on it, were in the pocket; a black cloth pilot Overcoat, bouble- breasted, pockets on sides, also on right side a ticket pocket, a pocket inside left breast, lined with black twill lining, with wadding under lining, buttons covered with cloth, some of them missing, all' man's size. The silver Watch and Chain was pledged with a Pawnbroker in Wrex- ham, on 13th instant, by a man, about .30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, supposed to belong to tlie neighbourhood of Wrexham.
