CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known lut not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. INFORMATIONS. Stolen from the person at Hedon Statute Hirings, on 12th instant, a silver lever Watch, engine- turned case, white dial, gold hands, and minute hand likewise, No. 4138. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Burniston, East Biding of Yorkshire, Sproatley, Hull.— Bow- street, November 14. Stolen on 8th instant, from tho person at Shepton Mallet : a Geneva silver Watch, No. 14116, with brass Chain attached, the links marked ' 18 g,' Information to Sergeant Williams, Shepton Mallet.— Bow- street, November 12. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. "^" On 5th instant, the body of a young man, named John Potter, was found in the Floating Harbour, in the city of Bristol, between the Drawbridge and the Stone Bridge, with a wound on the chin about one inch and half long, and another wound in the throat. A coroner's jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, otrier than a person belonging to a police force, in the United Kingdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the said John Potter, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice net being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. A. further reward of £ 100 will be paid by Mr. W. E. Perham, Exchange- buildings, Bristol, Solicitor, on behalf of the family of the deceased, to any person or persons, other than a Police Officer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. GEORGE HOWETT and JOHN VESSEY, alias JACK, advertised in the Police Gazette of 12th instant, have both been apprehended upon the. charge of murder at Spalding, on 8th instaut. Information to Mr. Superintendent Leaper, Spalding, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of THOMAS JONES, native of Fron- Cysyllty, Llangollen, charged with manslaughter, on 24th ultimo : 24 years of age, 5 feet 6^ inches high, dark brown hair and moustache, hazel eyes, round face, wide nostrils, thick lips, prominent forehead, slight cut second joint second linger left hand, proportionate build, works as a labourer in eoal pits ; dressed when last seen in a brown cloth coat, with pockets outside, black cloth trousers and vest, black jimcrow hat, and militia boots. Information to Chief Constable Leadbetter, or to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between llt. h and 12th instant, at Tomfields, Kingsley : a man's silk Pocket- handkerchief, orange and puce colour, quite new; also a man's merino Muffler, mixture colour ; a silver verge Watch ( since recovered) ; steel Albert Chain ; a small Seal; and a small woman's Shawl. Supposed by a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, boyish face, medium build; dressed in hard bowler hat, dark tweed jacket, cotton cord trousers, slit about 2 ins. across right knee, and a strong pair of lace- up boots. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Johnson, Ipstones, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 17, During the night of lltli instant, the dwelling house of Charles Stoddard, near Kingsley, Staffordshire, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : an old silver verge Watch ; a puce colour silk Handkerchief ; a merino muffler Handkerchief; and 24 Postage Stamps. By a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in black felt hat, dark jacket, and light moleskin trousers, and had the appear- ance of a farm servant. The Watch and Postage Stamps • have been recovered. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Johnson, Ipstones, Stafford- shire.-— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen on 12th instant, by means of housebreaking: two old- fashioned pair cased silver Watches, Nos. 418 and 20. By a tramp about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy whiskers, rather light hair ; dressed in old brown cloth low hat, brown cloth jacket, cord trousers, and strong nailed boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Critchley, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, November 17. Stolen on 7tli instant by means of housebreaking : a brown cloth tweed Coat and Vest, man's size, a little faded ; a pocket Knife, with with Penknife in yellow wooden haft; a Razor, with large blade, the haft a yellowish colour ; and a farriers lancet, with three blades. Supposed by two tramps, one about 30 vears of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair aud whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes and cap. The other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, kept very short; dressed in dark clothes, and hard felt hat. Information to Police Constable Williams, Llanfyllin, or to Mr. Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, November 12. Pony. Information to Mr. Superintendent Solihull, or to Inspector Prosser, Police Office, Acocks Green, Warwickshire. Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from a fold at Addington, Kent, during the night-. of 9th instant : a Kent ewe teg Sheep, which was slaughtered, the skin and entrails being left near the fold. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hnlse, Police Station, West Mailing, Kent.— Bow- street, November 14. Stolen from a field at Beech Hill, Berks, during the night of 6th instant : a brown cob Gelding, 4 years old, 14 hands high, has the letter ' A.' cut on its back on the near side ; also a chestnut cob Gelding, 4 years old, 14 hands high, also with the letter ' A.' on near side, and both in good con- dition. Information to Inspector Pocock, County Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, November 14. Slaughtered in a field at Wood End, Wednesfield : a Lamb, Body and Head stolen, skin, three feet, and entrails left behind. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Bilston, or to Sergeant Wright, New Cross, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 12. FORGERY. Description of WILLIAM COOK, late of the firm of Wilde and Cook, coach builders, of Birmingham, charged on a warrant with obtaining from Mr. Isaac Cohen, Monetary Agent, various sums of money by means of forged bills of exchange : he is about 40 years of ago, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, pale bloated face, caused Jby excessive drinking, sunk eyes, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, ( which may be shaved off), his hands show signs of recent hard work at his trade ; dressed in dark long overcoat, and hard felt hat, his friends reside in Yorkshire, where he has been visiting, since leaving Birmingham. £ 10 reward is offered by Mr. Cohen for his apprehension. Information to Chief Superintendent Bond, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds the warrant for his arrest. — Bow- street, November 14. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, with violence, at Preston, about 12 midnight on 8th instant, by two men who can be identified : an English silver lever Watch, No. 41249, maker's name 4 James Green, Preston,' on dial and movements, crystal bazel, extra jewelled, quite new, value £ 5 10s. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 14. Stolen from tin person, on 10th instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 41875, maker ' S. Greenhough, Bolton.' Infor- mation to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 14. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on 11th instant, frsm Cornwall- mews, Lambeth a bay mare Pony, 8 hands high, 7 years old, long mane and tail, rough coat, in good condition. By a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in sleeve vest, cord front, fustian back, cord trousers, hard felt hat, a cab washer.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, November 17. Stolen on 9th instant, from a field near Bydemill, Corsham, Wilts, the property of Mr. Amaza Gale, farmer : a very dark brown cart Horse, nearly black, 4 years old, 14 hands high, large black head, four black legs, high across the loins, roach back, a small sore on off shoulder, a few white hairs on near side under saddle, no shoes on hind feet, and long bushy black tail. Information to Mr. Superintendent Baldwin, Chippenham, Wilts.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen* on 12th instant; a bay Horse, 15 hands high, 43 or 68 branded on near hind quarter, over- kneed, white star on forehead, aged, in fair condition ; also a hempen halter.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, Nov. 17. Stolen during the night of 15th instant, at Suttmers Farm, Chalfont St. Giles : a dark brown horse, 4 years old, 15 hands high, small star on forehead, small lump on outside near foie leg, below the knee, a small lump on the off side of belly, very light legged, cart breed, long mane and tail, and in good condition ; a red roan Mare, 2 years old, 14 hands 3 inches high, small star on forehead, mane short, having been rubbed, and long tail; 2 leather bit Halters, with curb chains and hempen reins, one with brass on winkers, and one hempen halter. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Breene, Police Station, Beaconsfield, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen at Hall Green, near Birmingham, during the night of 14th instant; a bay Mare Pony, about 14 hands high, small white star on forehead, both knees chipped, old collar wounds on both shoulders, tail cut short, carries it slightly on one side when running, has a crack on the outside of near fcire foot ; also a plain Saddle, rather worn, and a plain snaffle Bridle. £ 10 reward is offerred for the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. MARGARET CAPLE, advertised in Police Gazette of 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant, at Oxford, with stealing a quantity of Jewellery aud Clothing, has been apprehended at Woolwich. Stolen between 7 and 8 a. m. on 7th instant, from No. 1, Cranham- terrace, Jericho, a silver Geneva open face Watch, scratch inside case, with hair Guard and common Locket attached, containing hair, and glass broken ; a dark Wasit- coat ; a blue worsted Guernsey ; and about 8 or 9 Shillings in Money. By a chimney sweeper, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, and has only one eye ; dressed in dark coat, t^]_ i: e and black plaid trousers, and ha ; d felt hat; has hair oh end of chin, and has a chimney sw'ee'per's' certificate with. him. Information to Mr. Superintendent Head, Oxford.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen in Bury about P30 p. m. on 12th instant: a gent's gold Geneva Watch, engine- turned cases, worn and dinged at back, white dial, gold hands ; a lady's long gold Guard, made of small rings; a pair of Ear- rings, dollar and i- dollar with chain bettveen ; a pair of Ear- rings, gold enamelled, plain drop ; a pair of Ear- rings, fancy gold, part going through ear has horse- shoe stamped in front; a lady's gold dress Ring, with white and green stones ; a ditto, red, white, and green stones ; a pair of gold Bracelets, set with pearls and torquoise; a dead gold round Brooch, with a purple stone and a belt of pearl across ; a sable Muff, silk lining, torn ; a black Dress, consisting of two pieces, top part serge, bottom part ribbed satin cloth ; a calico Chemise, needle- work at top in front, ; a white Feather ; and a white Muffler. Supposed by a servant who left the day the robbery was committed : she is about 30 years of- age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, pale aud hollow cheeks, dark brown hair ; dressed in black straw bonnet, trimmed with red ribbon, black feather at side, and small green bird in front, black cashmere dress, trimmed with silk, long black cloth jacket, trimmed with fringe, torn at the back, aud supposed velvet cuffs. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 17. Absconded on 10th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 130 in Gold : GEORGE HAYBALL, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in dark diagonal frock coat, pockets on hips, and vest, light trousers, black felt hat, and wears gaiters. May endeavour to leave the country. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, November 17. Absconded on 12th instant, charged with stealing £ 300 in Gold : ALICE DOYLE, domestic servant, 20 years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, pale complexion, fair hair, grey eyes ; dress black stuff, black cloth jacket-, black straw hat, side- spring boots. Also absconded, charged with being concerned with the above- named : WILLIAM FLOOD, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark liair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved on chin ; dressed in black pilot cloth over- coat, black striped cloth under ( both velvet collars), black diagonal cloth trousers and vest, hard felt hat. May go into business as cheesemongers in some provincial town, or endeavour to emigrate. Warrants issued.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, November 17. WILLIAM STACEY, late station master at Swanley Junction, London, Chatham, and Dover Railway, described in the Police Gazette of 7th instant, as wanted for embezzle- ment, is not to be apprehended, the warrant against him having been withdrawn. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, Nov. 17. Stolen at Rusholme, between 1 and 7 a. m. on 13th instant: a yard Shovel, and a Satchel made of bed ticking. Also stolen from a clothes line, at Failsworth. between 8 and 9 a. m. on 15tli instant : a pair of woollen cord Trousers, men's size, newly washed. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, very dark com- plexion ; dressed in long dark overcoat, and a cap. Infor- mation to the County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester. — Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Bolton, on 12th instant: two Pictures in yellow frames, representing two Old Castles,. < painted on glass ; also two Pictures in narrow gilt frames, j one representing a Woman striking at an Eagle with a Sickle,! the other represents a Man lowering himself down a Rock to a Nest of Young Eagles ; also a mahogany swing Looking- glass, about 1 foot by 9 inches. By a man who lodged at the house, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, mode- rate build, dark complexion and hair, bum mark on neck, and one arm crippled from being burnt; dressed in black. cloth coat, old dark mixture cloth trousers, dark cap, light muffler round his neck, and clogs. lie sometimes hawks pots, tins, carpeting, & c., and is supposed to have gone to Blackburn or Rochdale. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 1L Stolen since 3rd instant: a pair of men's brown cloth Trousers, lly fronts, without linings, pocket at side and brass buttons, seam on one hip unstitched about 2 inches, stripes down side of leg.; also a pair of men's black cloth Trousers, % fronts, without linings, pockets at side, and black iron buttons, both in good condition. Also a youths brown, grey, and red mixture cloth Waistcoat, brown buttons, single- breasted ; a woman's black silk Skirt, black binder, fastens with hooks, pocket in cross piece on front, nearly new. Suspicion attached to an Irishwoman, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, long features, sandy hair ; dressed in paisley shawl, black bonnet with one or two red roses in it, black dress with flounce, and elastic- side boots. There are other charges of felony against her. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 14. Description of WILLIAM WESTLEY, book- keeper, who has absconded, charged with embezzling £ i 8s., the monies of his employer, at Matlock Bridge : he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 " inches high, pale, very dark hair, little whisker, moustache, and a small imperial; generally wears a silk hat and a light- coloured overcoat, and carries an umbrella ; is a native of Birmingham, where his father now resides, aud is cabinet a maker. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Sharpe, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehenhension, or to Sergeant Watts, Matlock Bridge.— Bow- street, November 14. Absconded from Cirencester, on 8th instant, charged on a warrant with an offence under the bailee Act: GEORGE , FREDERICK ROOKE, clock aud watch maker, about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, black hair and whiskers worn rather long, sallow complexion, pockmarked, strong build, and inclined to be corpulent ; dressed when last seen iu a high box hat, aud very dark mixture suit of clothes. He is very fond of music, can play a violin, flute, concertina, and harp, the latter instrument he took with him. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Wood, Cirencester, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, November 14. Charged on warrant in Sheffield with stealing Brass : CORNELIUS WILKS, fireman, or puddler, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, dark hair, and moustache, and may be wearing whiskers, frout teeth project, blue mark corner of left eye, and several scars over left eye. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bow- street, November 14. Stolen at Snodland, Kent'" on the morning of 11th instant: an open- face siiver lever Waltham Watch, No. 1186499. By a man who lodged at the house one night, on 10th instant, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, small dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dark plaid suit, hard felt hat, lace- up boots, is a painter. He offered the watch to pledge at two places in Chatham, on 11th instant. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Hulse, Police Station, West Mailing, Kent.— Bow- street, November 14. Absconded from Yattendon, on 7th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing an old fashioned silver Watch, No. 3358, maker W. Brown, London, and steel Chain attached : JAMES TURNER, a labourer, of Goring, Oxon, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sandy hair, no whiskers, and beard at that time about a weeks growth ; dressed in dirty cord jacket, clean worsted cord waistcoat and trousers, and billycock hat, walks very splay footed. The waistcoat and trousers which he is wearing are also stolen from Pangbourne, near Reading. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Bennett, Berks Constabulary, Newbury, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, November 12. Absconded from Warrington ou 7th instant, having embezzled £ 8 8s. the property of the London and North Western Railway Insurance Society ( Locomotive Branch) : ERWIN FLYNN, time keeper, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, no moustache, small whiskers, was a cornet player iu the Rifle Volunteer Band of Warrington, has been at sea about 2^ years, was employed for a short time as booking clerk at Crewe Railway Station, and afterwards transferred to Warrington. Information to Chief Constable Hunt, Sessions House, Warrington.— Bow- street, November 12. Absconded from Danstable, charged on warrant with stealing on 4th ultimo : a riding Saddle ( recovered), and a Bridle: FREDERICK DEACON, 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion and hair, small moustache, whiskers shaved off; has served in the A Battery, A Brigade Royal Horse Artillery, at Aldershot, will probably re- enlist, has been traced to London. Information to Head Constable George, Dunstable, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bom- street, November 12. Absconded on 27th ultimo, from Overseal, near Ashby- de- la- Zouch, charged with embezelling £ 4, the moneys of his masters, the London and North Western Railway Company : WILLIAM MOON, clerk, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark hair and eyes, small dark whiskers down each side of face, and slight dark moustache, and walks erect ; dressed when last seen in black coat and vest, light tweed trousers, black billy hat with low flat crown, and lace up boots, with patch on the side of one of them, is a native of Bagworth, Leicestershire. Information to Inspector Brewitt, Ashby- de- Ia- Zouch, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, November 12. FEAUBS AMD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded, charged with fraud : EDWARD SAMUEL PARKER, clerk, 42 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion and hair ( curly), blue eyes, sandy whiskers and moustache, stout build; dressed in dark suit, and high hat; supposed accompanied by a woman named Aldred, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, medium build ; dressed respectably ; had with her a boy, 5 years old, who generally wears a black velveteen knicker- bocker suit. Information to the Director, Criminal Investi- gation Department, Great Scotland Yard. Warrant ismted. - Metropolitan Police, November 17. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from her home since 29th ultimo : CATHERINE KENT, of Colney, Herts, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 3 ins. high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, fair complexion ; dressed in a short black kilted alpaca dress, fancy black eloth jacket, large blue worsted scarf, with grey fringe, brown fur hat, darg grey waterproof, highlow shoes, and brown striped stockings, had a satchel with books in, and carried an umbrella, with fancy bone handle, and a gold locket tied round her neck, with black velvet, marked ' T. Kent,' and white collar. It is feared some ill has befallen her. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Pike, Police Station, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of WILLIAM STUART, a joiner, committed on 15th instant to 4 calendar months, hard labour, to North- allerton Gaol, for two charges of larceny : he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, brown moustache, grey eyes, proportionate build, blue ink marks between thumb and forefinger of both hands ; dressed in a dark cloth shooting coat, dark cloth vest, grey cloth trousers, black round hard felt hat, and mauve scarf. States he served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Thompson and Boyd, at Darlington, and has since been employed by Mr. Laing. ship builder, Sunderland. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Nov. 17.
