MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, Description of THOMAS BAKER, alias LEE, charged with inflicting upon Henry Reed and Moses Meller grevious bodily harm, at Brede, East Sussex, on 8th instant: lie is about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet It inches or 0 feet high, dark complexion, short black stubby whiskers, very dark short hair, and proportionate figure ; dressed wlien last seen in dark jacket, one sleeve torn, aud tight- fitting trousers. Travels the country with a woman and four or five children ; lias a donkey cart but no donkey, and is supposed to be travelling through Kent. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dennis, Guestling, Hastings, or to any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street., October 29. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Worcester Races on 27th ultimo: a gold English Lever Watch, with gold dial, steel hands, and seconds ditto, engine turned back with a round centre, No. 48,823. Information to Sergeant Sommers, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, November 3. Stolen from the person, on 21st instant, on the New- market Race Course : a gold Watch, centre seconds hands, cream- coloured dial, stopwatch, No. 33715 j had attached a gold twisted curb Albert Chain, peculiar pattern, and 18 carat gold. Information to Inspector Sargent, Newmarket, Suffolk.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Pomona Gardens, between 4 and 5 p. m. on 25th instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 2177, maker Thomas P. Joyce, Manchester, plain case, with garter shield inside, had attached a brass Guard, cable pattern. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bent, County Constabulary Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester, or at the nearest Police Station.— Bow- street, October 31. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 9' 30 p. m. on 29tli ultimo, and 5' 30 a. m. on 30tli ultimo, the residence of William Ellis, at Marton, Cheshire, was broken into, and stolen therein : 2 pairs of black cloth Trousers ; 1 pair of light tweed Trousers ; a black cloth shooting Coat, single stitched round the edge; a black clotli single- breasted Vest, buttons up to the throat, with turn down collar ; a light drab tweed double- breasted Overcoat, with black velvet collar ; a woollen Shawl, dark on one side, light on the other, with plaid border ; a black Shawl, with black fringe, with a small tear where it has been fastened with a pin, also one near the fringe, both darned up ; an old fashioned mixture worsted Shawl, with fringe cut off one side, and hemmed ; a drab woollen Handkerchief ; a black quilted satin Skirt, bound with black velvet round the botton ; a light plaid Muffler; a small Pistol. During the night of 2Gth ultimo, the church at Long- benton, was broken into, aud stolen therein : 5 Bottles of sacramental Wine ; an offertory Dish, brass, with the follow- ing engraving on. the centre ' Blessed is tlie man that provideth for the sick that needeth,' and a large safe Key. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Wetwang, East Riding of York : a £ 5 Note, supposed to be East Riding Bank; ,£ 10 in Gold; a red morocco Purse; a silver Tea Spoon and silver Fork, marked ' C. E.'; a gold curb watch Chain, spade Guinea attached ; a pair Sugar Tongs, ' E. M. L.; a square tin Cash box ; aud some Bread arid Mutton. Sup- pose by tramps. Information to Mr. Superintendent Harper, East Riding Constabulary, Great Driffield.— Bow- st., Nov 3. During the evening of § 6th instant, the house of Mrs. Bell, at Revesby Bridge, was entered and the following articles stolen therein : a Tea- pot, a sugar Basin," a cream Jug,' with the following inscription on each of them—' Presented to Mr. George Bell, on the occasion of his retiring from tli « situation of factor on the estate of Delvire, as a testimony of the esteem entertained for him by the Tenants and a numerous circle of Friends in the surrounding district, 1842' ; six table Spoons, marked ' G. M. B.'; six ditto marked ' Mrs. G. B.'; a gravy Spoon, marked ' Mrs. G. B.'; a soup Ladle, with an inscrip Between 5 and 0 p. m., the cottage of Nathaniel Hall Newm; rket, Suffolk, was entered by forcing a window, and a pair of small plain gold Ear- drops, £ 6 in Gold, and a1 few Shillings stolen therein. Information to Inspector Sargent, Newmarket, Suffolk.— Bow- street, October 29. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The Horse stolen from Spaldwick and advertised in Police Gazette of 27th ultimo, has been recoveied, and the thief HENRY PARNNABY, alias BRADFORD BARNEY, a racing thief, remanded until 8th instant: lie is 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, blue eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion, whiskers shaved off, carried his bead and neck forward ; dressed in a round hard felt hat, dark brown plaid suit, and lace- up boots. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Marson, Huntingdon.— Bow- street, November 3. Stolen from a field at Thornton- le- Clay, on the night of 22nd instant : a well bred bay Mare, 6 years old, over 15 hands high, black points, with little white on hind fetlocks, thin switch tail, supposed small white star oil forehead,' and without shoes. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the maie, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, Heworth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 31. Further information respecting the Horse stolen from Godalming, Surrey, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 24th ultimo: a warrant is still out for the apprehension of FRANCIS MARTIN, license holder No. 523, who is now supposed to be undergoing imprisonment for some offence committed in the country, i nformation to Deputy Chief Con- stable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, October 31. Remanded for 8 days, charged with stealing a Horse ( recover-'( P.' t Fairfield, Buxton, on 28th instant: JOHN WARD, labourer, 45 years of age, 5 feci 7;- inches i> i£, n, black: hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, whiskers round face, third finger left hand deformed. States he is a native of Bilston, Staffordshire, that of late he has worked in Kent, Birmingham, and also in North Wales. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Hallam, County Police Office, Chapel- en- le- Frith, Derby- shire.— Bow- st., Oct. 31. Stolen from a field at Elton, on 17th instant: a roan- coloured Colt, rising 2 years » ld, has a small white spot on forehead, short black mane, long tail, and without shoes. Also from a field at Elton, during tlie night of 25th instant: two roan- coloured Heifers, and a red coloured Heifer, coming 2 years old, each has a cut mark on right side of rump, and in good condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Ocober 29. tion; a ditto ditto, marked ' G. B.'; seven tea Spoons, marked ' Mrs. B.' ; pair of sugar Tongs, marked ' G. M. B.' : ditto marked ' M. R.' ; a salt Spoon ; a Locket and Chain ; a Salver with inscription—' Presented to Mr. George Bell,' in old English, ' for the interest he took in the Agriculture of tlie District, & c., 1835,' aud seven toddy Ladles ; the above are all of silver. Also the following plated articles— mustard Pot, Castors, toast Rack, two mustard Spoons, a pickle Fork, three dinner Forks, marked ' M. H. B., 1877, six egg Spoons, wine Strainer, six dessert Spoons with the cliaplin crest, also an Eyeglass with ivory handle, and a linen clothes Bag. Information to Mr. Superintendent Truelove, County Police Station, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 31. During the night of 28th instant, the dwelling- house of John Wood, of Stubwood Rocester, was entered and £ 9 in Gold aud about £\ in Silver stolen. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Inspector Barrett, Town Hall, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.— Bow- strcst, October 31. During the night of 27th instant, the house of Mr. G. Wright, High East- street, Dorchester, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : about £ 4 worth of postage Stamps, £ 4 in Silver with a little Gold tied up in a linen bag, £ i in Coppers, and 4s. to 5s. in threepenny and fourpenny Pieces. Information to Head Constable Coward, Borough [ Police Station, Guildhall, Dorchester.— Bow- street, Oct. 31. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen about 11- 30 a. m. on 30th ultimo, at Reading, ( under pretence of taking furnished apartments) : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 7317— 2- 2629, engine- turned cases, with long gold neck Chain, with Seal, Key, and Locket attached, with likeness of a young man therein ; a gold dress Ring, with rubies and pearls, in shape of a star ; a pearl Ring, with two rubies aud garnet; a small gold Ring, with green stone; a small gold Ring, with red stone and two pearls; a small gold King, with red stone ; a small gold. Locket with Chain ; a leather I'urse, containing SilveiJ Coppers, and weighing machine Ticket therein. By a man about 30 years of age, fresh complexion, with dark brown heavy moustache ( which may be false) ; dressed in dark over- coat, dark hard felt liat, and dark green gloves ; had tho appearance of a commercial traveller. Information to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, November 3. Absconded from Buxted, Sussex, on 29th ultimo, charged with Stealing £ 7 in Gold, and 3s. in Silver ; a silver Geneva Watch, open face, No. 20346; and a lady's black alpaca Umbrella, with a white crinkley ivory handle : a gill, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark eyes and hair, turns lier toes out when walking, has scars on back of little fingers from burns ; dressed in deep mourning, and was wearing a dark ulster, with dark buttons down the front and back, lace- up boots, ancl had a large bundle tied up in a blue check packing handkerchief. Is likely to be found in the neighbourhood of Aldershot or Shorncliffe. Information to Sir. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, November 3. Stolen from an outbuilding at Cwmbychanbach- Darowen, on the night of the 30th ultimo : a man's moleskin Monkey- jacket, nearly new, yellow bone buttons ; a man's duck ditto, yellow bone buttons ; and a duck Vest-, white bone buttons ; the property of Richard Davies. A tramp, who had been working there in the harvest, is suspected ; he is a native of near Newtown, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sandy liair and whiskers ( all round his face) ; dressed in hard felt hat, white slop, old black vest, woollen cord trousers much too large for him, has cord tied round his legs to keep his trousers up. Information to the Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to P. O. Humphreys, Cemmes, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, November 3. Absconded, charged on warrant with stealing a quantity of wearing Apparel and a Box ( recovered), from Duryard farm, Upton Pyne, Devon, on 21st September last: MARY ANN MEARS, native of Thorverton, Devon, servant, 18 years of age, 5 feet bigb, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, cut mark on right forefinger, very full at bosoms; dressed in a black cloth jacket, with pockets behind, black dress, white straw hat, faced with black velvet and blue ribbons, lace- up boots. She obtains situations by forged characters, remains a short time, and decamps by night. Associates with prostitutes. Supposed gone to Plymouth. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, November 3. Charged on warrant with stealing from the fish wharf at Yarmouth: a large quantity of fresh Herrings : FREDK. METCALF, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, moustache, and imperial, has upper front tooth out ; dressed when last seen in brown Cardigan Jacket, black trousers, and hard felt hat ; he is well known at South Shields, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Berwick, Hull, and Billingsgate. Information to Chief Constable Ogden, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, who holds the wariant ior his apprehension.— Bow- street, November Z. Absconded from Tunbridge " Wells, charged on a warrant with stealing 5s. on 18th ultimo : RICHARD HARRISON, alias TINY, 26 years of age, 4 feet 10J inches high, light brown hair, has a mole on right breast; he was convicted at Maidstone Assizes in December, 1873, for burglary after a previous conviction, and sentenced to 12 months hard labour and police supervision. May get employment in stables, and is well known at Eastbourne, and at 8, Wilmer- gardens, Hoxton. Information to Mr. Superintendent Embery, Tunbridge Wells, Kent .- Bow- street, November 3. Description of HENRY STANLEY, clerk and traveller, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with having embezzled the sum of £ 5 17s., belonging to his employers, Messrs. Wilson, Jaspers, and Co., Penrith, Cum- berland : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate figure, brown hair, sallow complexion, short broad face, brown moustache, no beard or whiskers ; dresses well, is of respectable appearance, and good address. Was a prominent member of the Society of Good Templars, at whose meetings he was a frequent speaker. He was formerly traveller for a Patent Sewing Machine Company in Liverpool. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, Cumberland, who holds the warrant for his appre- hension, and of whom, on application, his photograph may b e obtained, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle. Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 31. Charged on warrant with stealing £ 103 in Gold, at Smethwick, near Birmingham, on 25th instant : EDWARD OXLEY, alias Burton, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, light brown hair, no wli s'lers or moustache, pockmarked, Roman nose, turns his feet out when walking ; a canal boatman ; dressed in black jacket, dark vest, moleskin or black cloth trousers, hard black hat, red plaid scarf, elastic- side boots. THOMAS WATTS, alias TURTON, 33 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, tfery dark complexion, black hair and moustache and beard on chin ; is a eastiug dresser ; dressed in dark clothes, black billycock hat, and new lace- up boots, toeeapped. They are likely to be found in low public- houses, or amongst boat people, spending the money freely. Information to Sergeant Hinton, Smethwick, near Birming- ham, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, October 31. Charged on warrant with stealing a large quantity of Fish : JAMES GREEN, a smack's master, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 J inches high, light complexion, whiskers, and beard ; dressed in pilot cloth suit, and sealskin cap. He is well known at Lowestoft, Grimsby, and Hull. Information to Chief Constable Ogden, Great Yarmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.—- Bow- street, October 31. Description of JESSE PARKER, a clerk, charged on warrant with embezzling £ 200 of his employer, James Thompson, at Eccleshill, supposed gone to Liverpool : he is 38 or 39 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown eyes and hair, no whiskers, sandy moustache ; supposed dressed in brown mixture cloth suit, hard felt biliyeock, and elastic- side boots. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Ball, West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, October 29. Description of JACOB COHEN, a Russian Jew, charged upon a warrant, at Walsall, with stealing a Bank Cheque of the value of £ 55 6s. 10d., and a quantity of Jewellery, Watches, and Clocks, to the value of £ 500 : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin, black curly hair, flat nose with large nostrils, slight dark moustache, no whiskers, speaks English imperfectly, and is a travelling jeweller. He absconded from Walsall on 18th instant, and had in his possession two leather Cases, containing gold and silver Watches, diamond Rings, gold Chains, and other valuable property. It is supposed he will leave this country for Ham- burgh or the Cape of Good Hope. He is well known in the Staffordshire Pottery District, and most of the large towns in Eng'and. £ 20 reward will be paid upto his apprehension and recovery of ttie property, or a portion thereof. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 29. Absconded from Blaina, on 15th instant, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 11359, open face, frosted dial, gold figures, ' Edward Granger' engraved on inside case, with a steel Albert Chain attached, value £ 6, the property of Edward Granger, of Blaina: ALFRED MASON, . alias ALFRED SOUTH, alias FRED SOUTH, a labourer, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionate make, fresh complexion, light hair, small light whiskers, light sandy moustache, and of smart appearance; dressed when he absconded in a grey clcth coat, pockets on hips, looks too large for him, grey cloth waistcoat and trousers, lace- up or cossack boots with toecaps, and black round hat. May be found working on a railway, having been employed on the L. aud N. W. Ry. repairing signals, but recently working on turnpike- roads. Information at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, to Mr. Superintendent Foll, Tredegar, . or to Sergeant Williams, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Blaina, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 29. 2< J years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion ; dressed in monkey jacket, fscstian trousers, and black cap. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Glastonbury|; • or to Sergeant Williams, Somershire Constabulary, Shepton Mallet, who holds a swarraut for their apprehension.— Bow- street, November 3. Description of a womam, charged with stealing a Child, at Warwick, on 10th of April last : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout mwld, and has a florid complexion; dressed when last seen in a dark alpaca dress, grey shawl, and small black bonnet; was la3t heard of in Oxford, on 19th instant, she frequents lodging- houses and tramp wards, and employs the child in begging; the child's name is Henry Cartwright, 5 years of age, fresh coloured, and has the appearance of a gipsy ; had on a black linsey frock and drawers, trimmed with brown, black billycock hat, with velvet bow in front. Information to Mr. Superintendent Frankton, Kenilworth, or to Inspector Yardley, Warwick. — Bow- street, October 29. FRAUDS AMD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Charged with obtaining Money by a false pretence at Folkestone: ELIZABETH QUILL, alias WEBB, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair, rather stout build, small scar on forehead ; dress, dark brown, trimmed black velvet, brown cloth ulster, black velvet hat and feather. Calls at gentlemens' houses, states she is a dealer in farm produce, and solicits orders for poultry, & c. Last address given, a farm near Faversham, Kent, which is false. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wilshire, Town Hall, Folkestone, Kent, who holds warrant.— Bow- st., Nov. 3. Description of FREDERICK PEARCEY, or KING, charged on a warrant with obtaining a Cornet and Case at Tunbridge Wells, by fraud, on 22nd instant: he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, clean shaved, dark brown hair, closely cut, dark brown eyes, and a blue spot on back of left wrist; dressed in blue pilot jacket, and black bowler hat. His plan is to go into towns where there are exhibitions on, and after obtaining a handbill or two, to represent himself as the agent, and thus obtains goods. He has been four times convicted for felony and fraud, and was tried at Hastings about a fortnight ago for false pretences and acquitted. The body of a female child, supposed about a month old,, wrapped in a flannel blanket, such as infants are usually wrapped in, was found in a dyke at March, iu Isle of Ely, on, 24th instant. It is supposed to have been in the water about five or six weeks. A piece of linen cloth and a bag made of coarse straining cloth, with the bottom rotted out,° were also, found in the dyke.
