All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1879. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder John Higgins ( i. 802), convicted in India by Court Martial, on the 29th October, 1878, for drunkenness and insubordination and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a soldier, born at Belfast, resided in India with his regiment before conviction; brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, 5 feet inches high; scar on throat, D on left side, and two scars on centre of back. This convict was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, on the 12th May, 1879, and went to reside at Belfast; he left his residence at Belfast without notifying same to the B. I. Constabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5 th section of the Act 34 and 85 Vic, cap. 112. PARTICULARS relative to licence- holder John Larkin, 227- 14318, convicted in Dublin City, at Recorder's Court, on 9th June, 1875, for larceny, a » d sentenced to 5 years penal servitude :— 20 years of age on conviction, can read and write, a Roman Catholic, single, a labourer, born in Dublin, resided before conviction in Bolton- street, Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines, county Dublin; dark brown hair, gray eye ( left eye blind), dark brown eye- brows, regular nose, small mouth, fair complexion, round visage, stout make, 6 feet 8J inches high; is marked with anchor back of left hand, and cross on back of right, bracelet on left wrist, heart on left fore- arm, and J. on same arm, ring on second left finger, scar on left eyelid, on each eyebrow, and on forehead over left temple. This convict was discharged from Lusk Prison, 7th June, 1879, and went to reside in Dublin. He left No. 8, Lurgan- street, Dublin, his last place of residence, without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts are unknown. DESCRIPTION of three persons, names unknown, supposed natives of Braid, near Broughshane, who staud charged with having, on the 26th September, JK79, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Glenwherry, and townland of Skerrywherry, fired at Thomas, George, and James Tippin, gamekeepers to Victor Coates, Esq. wounding George Tippin, with shot in fifteen places.' They were armed with two guns, a double and single barrel, and had a grey- hound, of a dun and white colour, with black muzzle, and had their faces blackened:— 1. Unknown, very smart active appearance, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high; wore a round hat over face, dark coat, and trowsers. 2. DESCRIPTION of a gun, the property of Michael Moloney, farmer, which was stolen from his dwelling- house in the townland of Belvoir, barony of Tulla Lower, and parish of Clonlea, between 6 o'clock, P. M., on 21st instant, and 9 o'clock, A. M., on 22nd instant; a single- barrelled gun, comb of the hammer broken off, and wanting the top ring securing the ramrod; value for 5*. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Murphy, native of Kilcas- kin North, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of October, 1879, in ihe barony of Dunhal- low, parish of Castlemagner, obtained £ 20, by false pretences, from W. F. S. Barry, Esq., j. p. :— Remark- ably stout, square shoulders, walks erect, heavy gait, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round full face, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair, small dark whiskers in line with ears, but be- lieved now to be shaved off; wore a jerry hat, whitish tweed frock coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed vest, high- low boots ; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on Monday, the 20th October, 1879, absconded from the St Patrick's Reformatory School at Upton, I Co. Corkj Michael Brien, No. 956, 14 years of age, 4 feet 9J ; inches high, slight make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, regular nose, medium mouth, oval visage; warts on both hands ; formerly belonged to Carrigtohill, co. Cork, where his parents reside. The school dress consists of corduroy trowsers and sleeved corduroy waistcoat 5 drab tunic with leather belt; blue striped shirt, all with Reformatory stamp ; Glengarry cap; nailed boots, fastened with leather straps. Donegal, DUBLIN CASTLE, 15th April, 1878. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.80 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, the 2nd day of April, 1878, William Sydney, Earl of Leitrim, John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the persons who committed the same, or any of them. And His Grace is also pleased to offer FREE PARDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said murder, other than the persons who actually com- mitted the same, in case of his giving such information as will lead to the conviction ol the persons, or any of them, concerned in the murder aforesaid. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid by Edmund Y. Peel, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Letterkenny, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Manus Murray ( mother's surname M'Garvy), native of Barnes Upper, who stands charged with having, on the 25th October, 1879, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Kilmacrenan, seriously assaulted Denis Murray by striking him with a spade on the head, from the effects of which blow his life is in danger:— Light hair on upper lip and chin; never shaved; blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, flat face, stout make, 5 feet 5^ inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black cap, gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, gray vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of George Walker, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 9th October, 1879, in the barony of Tyrkennedy, parish of Ennis- killen, embezzled the sum of f 12 It. 6d., the moneys of his employers, the Singer Manufacturing Com- pany :— Smart in manner and appearance, small moustache and whiskers, full brown eyes, regular nose, reddish complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 years of age, reddish hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of Daniel O'Sullivan, native of Batterfield, who stands charged with having, on the 27th February, 1879, and 26th May, 1879, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Tralee, forged the mark of Bryan Connor, to bills of £ 7 10*. and £ 8 10s. respectively, on the Munster Bank of Tralee, and which were discounted, and which by information of 18th September, last, were not authorized by the said Bryan Connor:— Stooped about the shoulders, awkward gait, and appears thoughtful- looking and keeps his head down ; brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair, dark whiskers turning gray, shaved the chin only; wore a black soft jerry hat, dark frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers, tweed vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Peter William Daveis, alias Darkie, native of Manchester, England, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of October, 1879, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, absconded, taking with him a gold watch and gold Albert chain, the property of M. Ryan :— Dark eyes, rather big nose, yellow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair ; wore a black low round hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; attends on jockeys at races. DESCRIPTION of a gold watch and gold Albert chain, the property of Michael Ryan, which were stolen from the stand- house, Curragh, parish of Ballysax, barony of East Offaly, on the 16th October, 1879, by Peter William Dav « is, alias Darkie, viz. :— 1. A gold lever watch, open face, jewelled in 6 holes, a small mark at or near the key- hole caused by a fall; " M. Ryan " engraved on back, maker's name, O'Hanlon; value for about £ 25. This watch at the time it was taken was out of repair. 2. A gold Albert chain, short link pattern, part of a watch- key attached to chain in place of locket; value for about £ 5. DESCRIPTION of Pierce Damer, native of Carrick- on- Suir ( where his father resides), and Michael Walsh, native of Athlone, who stand charged with having, on the 9th of October, 1879, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, taken from a box, in a Hut in E Lines, Curragh Camp, the sum of £ 2 6s., being the money of John Duke, Shoemaker, by whom they were employed:— 1. Pierce Damer— Gray eyes, sharp nose, sallow complexion, plump face, slight: make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; black mous- tache ; shaves all his face but upper lip; wore a jerry hat, short black coat, tweed trowsers, no vest. 2. Michael Walsh— Has a slight halt, nose and cheeks red, scurvy- like, with pimples, small gray eyes, regular nose, reddish complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 50 years of age, gray hair, shaves all his face; wore a long brown coat, and tweed trowsers. Kilkenny. ^- DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 25th October, 1879, in the barony of Fassadineen, parish of Donaghmore, assaulted and attempted to rob Michael Dullard of a sum of money on the high- way :— 1. Unknown— Stout make, 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, about 80 years of age: wore a short coat. 2. Unknown— Stout make, 5 feet 4 to 6 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age ; wore a cap. DESCRIPTION of five sheep, the property of Mathew Mangan, which were stolen from the lands of Bally- hassan, parish of Geashill, barony of Upper Philips- town, on the night of 80th September, 1879, viz.:— Four wethers, with letters '' J. M." on right shoulder; value for £ 2 5s. each. One ewe, with letters " J. M.," or " M." only, on right side; value for £ 1 15s. Description of Thomas Duffy, labourer, by whom, it is supposed, three of the sheep were sold at the fair of Athy, on 1st instant, and who has been com- mitted for trial at next Quarter Sessions of Mary- borough :— Light brown eyes, thin nose, dark sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, 40 years of age, black hair, turning gray, dark whiskers; wore a soft hat, dark frieze coat, dark cord trowsers, and dark tweed vest. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Dwyer ( mother's surname Shanahan), native of Drumelougher, and Jamo • Cummins, native of Towerhill, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 5th October, 1879, in the barony of Owneybeg, parish of Tuogh, seriously assaulted Martin Hayes, of Drumsally, by striking him with a stone on the head and thereby placing his life in danger:— 1. Patrick Dwyer— Hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round ffcs, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, light brown hair; wore a soft hat, frieze coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. 2. James Cummins,— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 18 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft hat, dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DUBLIN CASTLE, 23rd October, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the 30th September, 1879, Mr. John Sydney Smith and his son Mr. Sydney Edward Smith, when returning from Ballycroy, were fired at, at Claggan Mountain, about half- way between the former place and Mulranny, by four men, of whom three escaped, and one, Thomas Howard, was shot dead by Mr. Sydney Edward Smith: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of any of the persons who committed the same; and a further reward of TWO HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as may lead to the same result. And His Grace is also pleased to offer a FREE PARDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said outrage, in case of his giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the outrage aforesaid. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by W. C. Morony, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Belmullet, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Maria M'Andrew, native of Bangor, who stands charged with having; on or about the 9th June, 1879, and on 18th June, 1879, in the barony of Erris, parish of Kilcommon, stolen a letter which contained a post office order for 9s., and a letter containing a half- sovereign, the property of the Post- master General, she being postmistress at Bangor at the time; she will endeavour to escape to America. She absconded from Bangor on 6th inst.; she was out on bail:— Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, thin face, slender make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years of age, black hair; wore a black hat, bln^ k jacket and dark dress. The three persons, names and native places unknown ( attempt to rob), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 30th September, 1879. John Flatley and William Flatley ( attacking houses), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st April, 1879. Michael Connell ( attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 14th February, 1879. Thomas Cannon ( serious assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th February, 1879. Meath. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th September, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 12.15 o'clock, A. M., on the 25th ultimo, Thomas Tandy, Esq., was found dead on his own land at Johnsbrook, in the county of Meath, having been murdered by some person or persons unknown; His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on convicti<#, by Captain the Honorable T. O. Plunkett, the Resident Magistrate at Navan, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Procla- mation. DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of the late Thomas Tandy, of Johnsbrook, county Meath, esq., stolen on the day of his murder, 24th August, 1879:— gojd hunting watch, three- quarter- plate lever, with enamel dial, and engine- turned cases; " West and Son, Dublin, 4544," engraved upon the move- ment, and probably the name " West and Son" also painted on the dial. This watch has been in wear since 1863, and can be identified. Athboy, Sept. 4, 1879. ( 23165 o— 40181.) DESCRIPTION of James Duff, native of Kingscourt, county Cavan, who stands charged with, having, on the 16th September, 1879, at Trowse, Norfolk, England, absconded with £ 110, the property of Patrick Carolan, Curtubber, county Meath, which he received to purchase cattle at the fair of Drogheda :— Several scars on head, which he jerks when walking, warts on right side of nose, gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, regular face, stout make, 6 feet 8 inches high, about 45 years of age; wore a brown tweed coat and trowsers, black cloth vest; is a cattle jobber. DESCRIPTION of Terence M'Kenna, native of Kerrib, Gorthoy, near Dungannon, county Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 17th September, 1879, in the barony of Cremorne, parish of Ballibay, committed a larceny of money from the shop of Mr. Samuel M'Clave, of Ballibay:— An old cut mark over left eye, full out mouth, one upper tooth promi- nent, has a shuffling gait of walking, gray eyes, prominent nose, fresh complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a low round hat, black frock coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a suspended Sub- Constable R. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 26th day of September, 1879, at Shegoragh, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Boyle, visited the houses of Thomas M'Grath and John M'Donough, at night, armed with a gun, for the purpose of intimidating certain persons:— Dark complexion, face almost covered with black hair, probably false, large stout make, 6 feet high, 40 years of age, dark hair, tall silk hat, dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest; suspected agent of an illegal society, going about intimidating persons obnoxious to members of the society, armed with a gun, and wore a cape like a policeman's, a belt, and ammunition pouches, and a gold watch chain; looks like a policeman in plain clothes, or drilled man.
