INFORMATIONS. SLOBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on evening of 6th instant, at Burton- on- Treut : a patent English silver lever Watch, silver dial, gold numbers, block steel hands and seconds, jewelled in six holes, gold balance, maker's name ' Jauber'; a silver verge Watch, ' Jeremiah Green' engraved on inside back case ; a Large Boston lever Watch, with gold albert Chain attached. Information to Mr. Superintendent Harston, Burton- o- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 8. Stolen from the person a gold English Lever Watch, No. 60( 3.: JAMES JOHNSON, 35 years of age, 5 feet inches high, brown eyes, brown moustache, and stout built; dark clothes, and strong boots, is in custody on suspicion of stealing the above Watch. States he is a native of Selby, aud has lately worked there for bricklayers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Harper, Driffield, York- shire.— Bow- street, October 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of WILLIAM CHARLES SEELS, charged with burglary, at Newark- on- Trent, on 30th ultimo : he is 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light grey eyes, light brown hair, small light whiskers, rather thin iface, and prominent top lip ; dressed iu a brown mixture long coat, vest and trousers, all dirty aud very much worn, but it is supposed that he has now charged his clothes. He is a clerk, but has been lately employed as a painter, and is a • native of Newark. Information to Chief Constable Liddell, Newark, Nottinghamshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, October 10. ton, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : eleven £ 5 Notes of the York Union Bank; a Scotch grey tweed shooting Coat, with two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, trimmed with pearl buttons; and a pair of grey tweed Trousers, nearly new, man's size. By a man, 34 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate build, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in brown ulster overcoat, black coac under, dark vest, dark cloth trousers, with light spots, soft black billycock hat ; supposed to have served in Liverpool and Lancashire Police Forces ; will probably endeavour to emigrate. Information to Mr. Superintendent Park, Malton, or to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Moorside.— Bow- st., October 6. Between 1 and 2 p. m. on 30th ultimo, a lock- up shop in Llanbeds, Merionethshire, was broken into aud stolen therein: a yellow leather Purse, containiug £ 20 in Gold ; £ 5 of the N. P. B. of England ; and a Note of hand for £ 30. Supposed by a lad, between 14 and 15 years of age, short and stout built, appeared as a sailor; dressed in blue pilot cloth jacket, with velvet collar, dark cloth trousers, black cap, with French peak, elastic- side boots, a native of Llanfair Harlech ; it is probable that he will make for some seaport, and will seek employment on board ship. Information to B. C. Owen, Harlech, or to Deputy Chief Constable Hughes, Towyn, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, October 6. Between 12 midnight on 3rd and 6 a. m. on 4th instant, a lock- up jewellery shop in Whitchurch, Salop, was burglari- ously entered and the following property stolen therefrom : English lever Watches, two with silver dials with name ' A. Barrett, Whitchurch,' on; also gold and silver Geneva Watches, gold and silver watch Guards ( Albert and chain patterns); gold gem Rings; silver breast Pins: and silver Necklet and Locket ; No. of one of the lever Watches with silver dial 9552. Information to Mr. Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- st'e- t, October 6. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Torworth, during the night of 2ud or early on the morning of 3rd instant : 5 silver Forks, 4 table Spoons, 2 dessert Spoons, 5 tea Spoons, marked ' G.'; 1 salt Spoon, marked ' F. E. G.'; 1 sugar Bow, marked ' E. M.'; about £ 20 Gold, £ 10 in Silver ; a pair of men's side- spring Boots, nearly new ; a dark mixture Overcoat with pockets outside. Supposed by a man who called at the house, 30 to 35 years of age, low stature, ginger Dundreary whiskers and moustache ; dressed iu a dark grey shooting coat, new light cotton cord trousers, black soft billy hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Sanford, Retford, Nottinghamshire.— Bow- street, October 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Emstrey, on 0th instant, supposed by tramp : a man's suit of dark mixture cloth Clothes, much worn ; a new moleskin Jacket; a pair of - cotton cord Trousers, flap fronts, nearly new, the whole were wrapped in piece of blue check, torn from bed hanging. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Howells, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Lear, Meole Brace, Salop.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from Braehill cottage, Dumfries : a man's dark grey ( almost like a small check) tweed shooting Coat, two pockets outside of skirts with flaps, . double breasted, four buttons on each side of breast; a pair of man's dark grey tweed Trousers, fly fronts ; a pair of man's brown- grey home- knitted woollen Drawers, lined at headband with white cotton, two buttons in front; an i nitation sealskin Cap ; a pair of man's Shetland grey Socks, red ring round heads aud some red at toes ; a man's black aud white checked woollen Shirt, large check, two buttons in front and one iu back of neck, and three on breast; a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, having toe- caps ou them, and have been soled ; and a bronze metal American Watch, small size, wants the glass and the minute hand, has seconds bauds, hands black, attached a cottou Guard. Absconded from Nunnington, North Biding Yorkshire, on 27th instant, charged with breakiug aud entering the . - dwelling house of William Peacock, Nunnington, and stealing therefrom, 11 £ 5 Notes, of the York Union Bank ; a Scotch grey tweed shooting Coat, with two pockets outside, and one i iside left breast, trimmed with pearl buttons ; and a pair of grey tweed Trousers, nearly new, man's size : GEORGE HARDCASTLE, a labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet i) or 10 iuches high, proportionate build, dark brown hair, whiskers, aud moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in a brown ulster overcoat, black under coat, dark vest, dark cloth trousers, with light spots, soft black billycock hat, all much . worn, carries with him a black leather bag. Stated that he Bad served in the Liverpool Police Force and Fire Brigade. Information to Mr. Superintendent Park, Malton, or to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Moor- side, - Jiow- ttrwt, October 8, ".', On 27th ultimo, the house of William Peacock, Nunning- HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Marylands Farm, Harrow Road : a grey Mare, aged, 14 bauds high, a dark brown Mare, 15 bands high, off hind fetlock white, has been blistered, a dark brown gelding, aged, 13 hands high.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, October 8. Further particulars respecting two Horses and Brake stolen, and advertised in Police Gazette lst instant; property recovered ; SAMUEL TAYLOR, not yet apprehended. — Metopolitan Police, T Division, October 8. Further information respecting JOHN WILDING, advertised in Police Gazette of 22nd ultimo, charged with Sheepstealing : he is 28 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, long visage, prominent cheek bones, dark hair, small dark whiskers round chin, large nose, rather slender aud very upright when walking, cut mark left eye- brow, large cut top of head, cut and boil on left knee ; dressed in dark cloth suit, dark overcoat, hard rouud hat, and elastic- side boots ; a carpenter. He was convicted at the Shropshire Summer Sessions, 1878, on charge of stealing two Horses. His usual method is to drive the stolen animals to auctions a distance from the place where stolen from, and then take train at a station a distance away from place of sale. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Howells, Salop, or to Sergeant Lear, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, who holds the warrant. Bow- streetOctober 8. Stolen during the night of 2ud instant, from Oaks- farm, Chobham : a light bay nag Mare, 6 years old, 141- hands high, white hind feet, white blaze dowu face, white saddle mark £ 10 10s. rewaid will be paid to auy person giving such infor- mation as will lead to the recovery of the mare and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, Oct. 6. mixture tweed suit, and black hard felt, billycock hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Oliver, Consett, Durham.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen from Stowe Brick Yard, on lst instant: a dGuble- cased old- fashioned silver verge Watch, No. 5892, with a steel curved Chain attached, inside the case is a piece of newspaper. By a tramp, middle height, sandy hair and whiskers ; dressed in old black coat, torn down the sleeve aud back, cordurov trousers, old felt hat with a hole in the- top, light shoes with one sole nearly off. Information to- Inspector Andrews, Maids Moreton, near Buckingham.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen at Condover, on 2nd iastant : three pairs of Stockings, man's size, one pair home knitted, brown- colourtd one ditto, light blue woolleu, and oue ditto, light br- woollen, all marked at top ' E. F.: By a tramping wor about 48 years of age, middle size, of dissipated appearance ; dressed in dark clothing, and smokes. Information to Mr. Superintendent Howells, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Lear, Meole Brace, Salop.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen on 3rd instant, from Leominster : a pair of jet Bracelets, cockle shells on about half way round ; and a gold scarf Pin, the head about the size of a fourpenny piece, small bar across the centre. Supposed by a young woman, who offered for sale a gentleman's gold cast ring, with a pink edged stone, a piece broken off the back of it, stone shape of a shield", 9- carat gold, new, she also wished to change the ring for some other article, but left the shop without making any purchase, she is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches higb, dark hair and eyes, sallow complexion ; dressed in darkgreeh dress, black jacket, and dark hat with red rose. Information to Mr. Superintendent Johnson, Borough Police Station, Leominster, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, October 8. Description of WILLIAM COATH, charged with stealing £ 95 and a Cash Book, the property of the Patent Shaft and Axle Tree Company, of Wednesbury, on 7th June, and 12th. July last, respectively : last place <> f abode The Shrubb: r-\ Aston- road, Walsall, a mercantile -; erk 38 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high,' dark and swarthy complexion, iron grey hair, cut short, very full eyes, and large, stoutish build, of good address; weays a brown kniekerbocker suit. Information to Mr. Superintendent Holland, Police Office, Wednesbury, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 8. Stolen from the ' Fremason's' tatern, Canterbury, on the morning of 3rd instant: a gold hunting Wateh, No. 11949, engraved on outside case ' E. A.'; a silver hunting Watch, No. 3013, engraved on outside case ' T. C.' By a man who lodged in the house, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed iu grey tweed suit, ronud felt hat, and laced boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Davies, Canterbury, Kent.— Bow- street, October 8. Absconded, charged with embezzlement:. FREDERICK LEACH, late of 47, Manby Grove,' Stratford, Essex, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, sandy hair and whiskers ( shaved uuder chili) ; dressed in light tweed suit, high hat, side- spring boots, and a traveller ; has been iu the employ of Messrs. New aud Sou, of Notting- ham, aud is known at Aldershot. Warrant Issued. Infor- mation to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Police, October 8. Absconded, charged with obtaining Fruit by fraud, on 2nd August last: JAMES PRICE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, and brown hair ; dressed as a costermonger. Warrant issued. — Metropolitan Police, 13 Division, October 8. Absconded on 6th instant, charged with stealing £ 28 10s. in Gold and Silver : a woman servant, 17 years of age, dark complexion and hair, cut short one side of forehead ; dress and cloth jacket or cape black, while straw hat, turned up at side, trimmed with brouze ribbon, white feather, and low shoes. — Metropolitan Police, W Division, October 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of FREDERICK HARRIS, charged with stealing 4 Fowls, at Warwick, on 4th instant : he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark hair and complexion, small black moustache ; dressed iu white slop, cord trousers, aud black billytop hat. Had a flag basket,, such as are used by labourers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Frankton, Kenilworth, or to Inspector Yardley, Warwick, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 10. Absconded on 2nd instant, charged' on a warrant with embezzlement : ROBERT SURTEES, junior, lately a stock tiker at the Consett Iron Works, Consett, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, parted in centre, flight light moustache, blue eyes, rather sunken from late illness, proportionate figure ; dressed in dark grey Absconded from Eastbourne, Sussex, on 28th ultimo, charged with stealing a pebble Bracelet ; a silver- plated Bracelet; a pair of gold Sleeve- links ; a small silver- plated Brooch; a pair of kid Gloves ; aud 6s. 6d. in Money : ALFRED GEORGE BRAZZIER, 23 years of age, 5 feet 31 inches high, fair complexion, tip of nose has a flattened appearance from having been injured, light blue eyes, dark brown curly hair and moustache, and rather slight figure, a carpenter's labourer, has somewhat of a military appearance from having been a soldier ; dressed in hard felt hat, grey cloth coat, brown cloth vest and trousers, and low shoes. Information to Mr. Superintendent Newnham, East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, October 8. Stolen from a house at Windsor, on 6th instant; 3 gold Rings— two with blue stones, the other white; 1 gold Brooch with turquiose in centre; 2 pairs of gold Ear- rings, one plain, the other pair with blue stones. By a Scotchman, about 5 feet 10 inches high, 30 years of age, very thin figure, dark complexiou with thick eyebrows, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed iu short black coat, mixed cloth trousers, deer- stalker hat, and shabby appearauce. Stated he was in the soda trade, and went to the house under tlis pretence of taking apartments. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, Oct. 8. Absconded charged with stealing £ 140 13s. Gold aud Silver, ar- d £ 55 Bank of England Notes; FREDERICK A. BIESSENDEN, clerk, 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, hair and moustache ( slight) dark ; dress, j dark morning coat and vest, grey small check trousers, hard black round felt hat. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Pokce, C Division, October 8. Absconded from Hereford on 13th instant, charged with; larceny : ALBERT REED, printer's apprentice, 18 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slender built, sallow complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, large mouth, and of slovanly appearance, walks a little in- kneed : dressed in dark clothes, and bowler hat. Parents reside in Liverpool. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Davies, City Police Hereford. — Brno- street, October 8. Absconded from Ripon, on 29th ultimo, charged on warrant with larceny : a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slight dark moustache, black hair, inclined to curl, and scurvy mark, supposed left side of face ; dressed in grey coat and vest, fustain trousers, and black round hat; stoops when walking, and walks with an awkward gait, and of dirty and slovenly appearance. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Metcalf, City Police Office, Ripon, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 8. Further information respecting RICHARD TAYLOR, charged on warrant with larceny, at Martindale Church, Westmorland, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 19th instant : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light com- plexion and hair, blue eyes, light whiskers all round the face, slight moustache, slender figure, lost several upper teeth, top of left thumb, has a - large scar the result of a cut across the inside of right hand ; dressed in an old brown ribbed coat, black or drab vest, corduroy or drab trousers, lace- up boots, newly soled, black hard felt hat; a joiner on tramp, served his time with Mr. C. Blades, of Lancaster, his wife resides at Springfield, Salford ; the tenon Saw, Spirit Level, Hammer, 9- inch Square, and rabbit Plane all marked ' J. Nicholson,' and the blue ribbed Coat have been recovered pledged at Penrith. Information to Mr. Superintendent Spencer, Appleby, Westmorland, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 8. Description of a man charged with stealing, at Pickering, a silver Watch from a farm- house, at Lockton, on 29th ult., Watch since found pledged in York : he is 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark bushey whiskers down sides of face, slight dark moustache, chin end and throat shaved, slight cast in eyes, nose rather crooked, lowers or stoops a little to one side when walking, tattooed with flags and angel on one arm and initials on the other ; he generally works as a farm labourer, but is supposed to have been in [ the army ; dressed when last seen in dirty linen jacket, moleskin or jean vest with dark velvet round collar, printed moleskin trousers, patched at knees, dark stiff billy- cock with crumpled crown, leather belt round waist, and strong boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Spence, North Riding Constabulary, Pickering.— Bow- street, Oct. 6. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Whitby, between 3 and 4 p. m. on lst instant: a cloth Vest, recovered pledged, and a yellow and white striped cotton Shirt, not recovered. By a man who lodged at the house and absconded same day, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair, curly at back of head, proportionate build, had been employed upon the new railway a few days, as a navy; dressed in an old blue or brown cloth jacket, faded, old dark tweed yest, much worn, moleskin trousers, patched in front, dark cloth cap, with knob on top, and clogs. Stated he was making for Darlington. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 6. Corrected description of ALFRED R. MANNERS, a clerk, charged on warrant with embezzlement, who failed to sus- render to his bail at the Town Hall, Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 30th ultimo, advertised in Police Gazette of lst instant : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair parted in middle, small mous- tache, little whiskers on upper part of face, lower part recently shaved; dressed in a black ribbed cloth suit, side- spring boots, small low black felt round hat, marked crown ' Best Quality.' Four Prize Medals, Vienna 1873, Paris 1875'; had with him a small black pprtmanteau, containing black ribbed cloth frock coat and waistcoat, brown trousers, and white shirt; carried a brown cloth overcoat on his arm. He formerly carried on a grocery business at Devonshire House, Forest- hill ; stated his father lived at No. 2, Highbury New- park, London, but supposed now to be living at No. 3, The Terrace, Peckham- rye; also supposed to have a wife living at No. 14, Layford- road, The Gardens, Peckham. He took a ticket for Waterloo Station ou 27th ultimo ; is a betting man, and well known at all betting clubs in London. Information to Mr. Superintendent Pitfield, Shaftesbury, Dorset.— Bow- street, October 6. Description of MAUD MATTHEWS, charged with stealing from Hemel Hempstead, Herts, about 20th ultimo, a black leather Bag, containing a black silk Dress ; a black velvet Jacket; and three Shawls ; also a black silk Umbrella. She is about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, cut short, pale complexion, and wears a false chignon and small ear- drops; dressed in black dress, black bonnet with white border in front, and black shawl. May be wearing the stolen clothing. She is known at the ' Home of Mercy,' at Fulham, also at Clewer. Information to Inspector Chapman, Police Station, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- st., October 6. „ Description of JOHN WILSON WHITTAKER, charged on warrant with stealing Money belonging to his master, Marcellus Purnell Castle, brewer, of Brighton, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, has been in a regiment of Hussars, and has a soldierly appearance. Infor- mation to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton.— Bow- street, October 6. Absconded on 30th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 4 in Gold : a man, labourer, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair. complexion; dress, black pilot jacket, moleskin trousers, cap with peak, all old and dirty.— Metropolitan Police, K Division October 6. Absconded on lst instant, charged with stealing a blue beaver Overcoat, velvet collar, a dark blue diagonal double breasted cutaway Coat, Vest, and Trousers, a silver open face Geneva Wateh, and 2 pairs men's new side spring Boots : a man, 2i years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair ( curly) whiskers and moustache black, ( small) ; dress, supposed stolen clothes.— Metropolitan Pohee, H Division, October 6. Description of a man, charged with stealing at Burton- on- Trent on 2nd instant; a black cloth round about Jacket, . pockets KMI hips and breast pocket ( left) ; a double- breasted black . clath Waistcoat, three pockets ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new, full fronts ; and a pair of elastic- side Boot ® which have been repaired on the inside of uppers. He is - 31 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, sandy moustache, no whiskers, wears his hair very long behind ; dressed in long black frock coat, light cord trousers, hard round hat; a draughtsman ; last place of abode 266, Waterloo- street, Burton- on- Trent. States he worked at Nottingham, York, and other places. Information to Mr. Superintendent Harston, Burton on- Trent, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, October 6.
