PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder John Leany, A. 1610, convicted at Dum Dum, Calcutta, 8th December, 1874, tor insubordination and violently resisting escort, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 24 years of age on con- viction, is single, a labourer, born at Skreen, county Meath, formerly a soldier in 62nd Regiment, slender build, oval visage, and 6 feet 8| inches high, scar on bridge of nose and right elbow, nose inclines to left side, mole on iaside of right arm and on right breast. This convict was discharged from Portland Convict Prison, on 18th Ju e, 1879. and reported himself to the Dublin Metropolitan Police, 26th June, 1879, » nd stated h « was going to Skreen, county Meath. Ho reported himself to the Royal Irish Constabulary at Kilmoon, coun'y Meath, 2nth. b « t not since, and his present whereabouts are unknown In the event of his arrest he should be dealt wiih under the 5th section of the Act 84 and 85 Vic,, cr p. 112. PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder James Doran, v. 674, convicted at Ramsey, Isle of Man, on 18th November, 1869, for bestiality, aud sentenced to 14 years penal servitude :— 18 years of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Ireland, resided before conviction in Ramsey ; dark brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visa6e, propor- tionate mtke, 5 feet 6 inches high. This convict was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, 19th June, 1879, on a special licence, hnd went to reside at Ramsey. He reported his arrival at Newry on the 1st ultimo, and left that place without notifying same to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknowr. DESCRIPTION of three persons, names unknown, suj posed natives of Braid, near Broughshane, who stand charged with having, on the 26th September, 1879, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Glenwherry, and townland of Skerrywherry, fired at Thomas, George, and James Tippin, gamekeepers to Victor Coates, Esq., wounding George Tippin, with shot in fifteen places They were armeo with two guns, a double and tingle barrel, and had a grey- hound, of a dun and white colour, with black muzzle, and bad their faces blackened:— 1. Unknown, very smart active appearance, slight mako, 5 feet 10 inches high; wore a round hat over face, dark aid trowsers. 2. Unknown, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high; wore abound hat, dark coat, white moleskin trowsers. 8. Unknown, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high; W' re a round hat, brown coat, and trowsers. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 25th September, 1879, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Robert Williamson, 291, about 17 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, slight make, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, sharp nose, full mouth, sharp visage; pockpitted; mole below left breast; formerly belonged to Strandtown, Belfast, where his mother resides. DESCRIPTION of John M'Alister, native of Sheltin Park, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of June, 1878, in the barony of Upper Dunluce, parish of Loughguile, forged, and on the 26th day of June, 1878, uttered a certain promissory note for £ 95, knowing the same to bo forged, with intent to defra'id, and failed t » appear at Dervock Petty Sessions, on 2nd September, 1879, on • ummons to answer 10 the charge: — Speaks very politely, smacks his lips while talking, bald on top of head, slightly round shoulders, leans a little forward when walking, high cheek bones and sunken jaws, blue e) es, long drooped nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make 6 teat 10 inches high, about 45 years of a « e, dark hair turning gray, small whiskers ; wore a brown hat, long blue pilot coat with outside pockets, check trowseis aud vest; is a farmer. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of Five o'clock, on the morning of the 22nd ultimo, the body ot James Neagle, was found on the public road, in the townland of Kineilty, in the county of Clare, murdered by some person or persons at present unknOwn. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the night of 20th June, 1879, an old man named Thomas Devonport, who resided in the townland of Ballaghaline, in the parish of Killilagh, and county of Clare, was strangled in his btd by some person or persons unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to ofler a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such infor- mation as shall lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. Macker or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown: Eis Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of thef persona who committed the same, or any of them. And His Grace is also pleased to offer a FrEE PArDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said murder, other than the persons who actually com- mitted the same, In case of his giving such information as will lead to the conviction ot the persons, or any of them, concerned in the murder aforesaid. DUBLIN CASTLE, 5th September, 1879, WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the afternoon of the 21st August, 1879, the body of James Brosnan was found in a meadow near his own house, in the townland of Pilgrimhill, near Listowel, in the county of Kerry, murdered by some person or persons unknown : His Grace, for the better apprehend ing and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. DESCRIPTION of a man, name unknown, supposed to be Doyle, a native of county Louth, who stands charged with having, on the 11 th September, 1879 in the barony of Mugonihy, parish of Kilcummin and townland of Scrahanfadda, stolea a cow, the property of Catherine Clifford:— Remarkably large head, slug- gish appearance, and looks like a tramp, drives cattle sometimes for jobbers, and recently worked as a navvy on the railway now being made near Listowel; was returning home, and will likely dispose of the cow on his way back; sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, and about 80 years of age} small brown whiskers meeting under chin. Description of the cow:— A red- coloured cow, with " hoobey" horns ( crooked and turned towards head), white spot on forehead, in calf, and not much larger than a " Kerry" cow ; value for about £ 5 10*. DESCRIPTION of James Coffey, native of Queen's County, who stands charged with having, on the 19th December, 1* 6T, in the barony of Kilkea and Moone, parish of Killellan, murdered William Dunne, of Ballyadams, Queen's County. ( See Hu « anH- Cry of December, 1867) It is supposed triat this offender has returned to the country :— Down- looking appear- ance, heavy upper lip, speaks with coarse flat accent and slight lisp, shaved, except small whiskers; suoken gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 65 years of age, gray hair; wears a tall hat ( worn well down on foreheaJ), blue coat, ccrduroy trowsers, black vest. DESCRIPTION of a horse, the property of William O'Brien, which was stolen from the lands of Bally- voneen, parish of Grean, barony of Coonagh, on the 4th day of October, 1879i^ A dark bay cob, about 14 hands high, rising 7 years, large white strip on forehead, both hind legs white, very strong, and in very good condition; value for about £ 30. DESCRIPTION of a mare donkey, the property of Patrick Myers, of Bruff, which was stolen from off the townland of Tullabrackey, parish of Tullabrackey, barony of Coshma, ou the night of the 22nd Septem- ber, 1879:— Large mare donkey, rather heavy, saddle back, the top of tail out short, the top » of hoofs much worn, as she was never shod; knees marked as from a fall, small white spot on neck, bright gray colour; she had some milk, as she was after rearing a foal; value for about £ 1 10 « . DESCRIPTION of a bull, the property of Denis English, which was stolen from the lands of Boheroe, parish of Aglishcormack, barony of Clanwilliam, on the 28th day of September, 1879 :— A yearling bull, deep red colour, thickly spotted with white, thiu make in the after quarters, medium- sized horns, inclined to droop; value for £ 8. DESCRIPTION of Michael Gillooly, native of Ballin- gatly, county Limerick, who stands charged with having, ou the 8th September, 1879, at Ballinlough, ia the barony of Small County, parish of Ballinlough, seriously assaulted Thomas Nihile with a loaded stick, fracturing his skull, theraby endangering his life:— Cut mark on bridge of nose, wears all bis beard; gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, oval face stout make, 5 feet 8| inches high, about 30 years of ago, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. is a farmer's son. This man is a returned convict, and was under Police supervision which ceased on 9th July last. Bruff, September 12, 1879. Unknown— Stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about years of axe, dark hair, large dark beard, short neck; spoke as if he had been a labourer in England. 2. Unknown— Stout make, 5 feet 7 inches his; h, about 90 years of age, large dark beard, short neck} spoke as if he had been a labourer in England. : t. Cogan, nslive of Bally- ragget, county Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, between the 20th August and 18th Septem- ber, 1879, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Kilcon- duff, at Swinford, embezzled the sum of £ 1,6* 1 the property of the Hibernian Joint- Stock Bank Directors:— Springs on toes in walking; quiet de- meanour; gray eyes, thin regular nose, fair com- plexion, l > pg thin face, slender make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair ; wore a dark hat, short dark tweed coat, gray twe « d trowsers, dark vest; is atelier in the Hibernian Bank. Generally carries a stick, and keeps left hand in coat pocket when v alking. He may try to escape in the garb of a Priest. Has two brothers in America. The Sub- Inspector at Swinford holds a warrant for his arrest, and £ 100 reward is offered by the Hibernian Bank for his capture. ( 28580 o.— 40568.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1879, Meath. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th September, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 12.15 o'clock, A. M., on the 25th ultimo, Thomas Tandy, Esq., was found dead on his own land at Johnsbrook, in the county of Meath, having been murdered by some person of persons unknown • His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall < ead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same ; and a reward of O^ E HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result By His Grace's Command, T. H. BurKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Captain the Honorable T. O. Plunkett, the Resident Magistrate at Navan, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Procla- mation. DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of the late Thomas Tandy, of Johnsbrook, county Meath, esq., stolen on the day of his murder, 24th August, 1879:— gold hunting watch, three- quarter- plate lever, with enamel dial, and engine- turned cases; " West and Son, Dublin, 4544," engraved upon the move- ment, and probably ihe name " West and Son'' also painted on the dial. This watch has been in wear since 1863, and can be identified. Athboy, Sept. 4, 1879. ( 23165 40181.) DESCRIPTION of James Duff, native of Kingscourt, county Cavan, who stands charged with, having, on the 16th Septembor, 1879. at Trowse, Norfolk, England, absconded with £ 110, the property of Patrick Carolan, Curtubber, connty Meath, which he received to purchase cattle at the fair of Drogheda :— Several scars on head, which he jerks when walking, wart* on right side of nose, gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 8^ inches high, about 45 years of age; wore a brown twt ed coat and trowsers, black cloth vest; is a cattle jobber. Kells, September 30, 1879. ( 23670 c.— 40802.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Deignan, native of Martins- town, Athboy, who stands charged with having, on the 30th August, 1879, in the barony ot Lune, parish of Athboy, received from his employer ( Owen Murtagh), 8 head of cattle ( value for about £ 180), to Sell in Manchester market, and with having embezzled the proceeds of the sale of said cattle:— Stooped shoulders generally carried a brown frieze overcoat across his arm, and a long thin stick in his hand, regular nose, dstrk sallow complexion, regular face, piedium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 65 years ef age, dark hair turning gray; wore a large soft felt hat, frock coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a cattle jobber. Michael Keefe ( failing to appear to take his trial when on bail, on the charge of stealing a gold watch), has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd November, 1878. Roscommon.
