PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder John Leany, A. 1610, convicted at Dum Dum, Calcutta, 8th December, 1874, for insubordination and violently resisting escort, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 24 years of age on con- viction, is single, a labourer, born at Skreen, county Meath, formerly a soldier in 62od Regiment, slender build, oval visage, and 5 feet 8J inches high, scar on bridge of nose and right elbow, nose inclines to left side, mole on inside of right arm and on right breast. This convict was discharged from Portland Convict Prison, on 18th Juce, 1879, and reported himself to the Dublin Metropolitan Police, 26th June, 1879, and stated he was going to Skreen, county Meath. He reported himself to the Royal Irish Constabulary at Kilmoon, county Meath, 26th July, 1879, but not since, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In tho event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of tho Act 34 and 85 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 11, 1879. ( 165 21 M.- 28795.) PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder James Doran, v. 674, convicted at Ramsey, Isle of Man, on 18th November, 1869, for bestiality, and sentenced to 14 years penal servitude:— 18 jears of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Iroland, resided before conviction in Ramsey ; dark brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visage, propor- tionate make, 5 feet 6 inches high. This convict was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, 19th June, 1879, on a special licence, and went to resido at Ramsey. He reported his arrival at Newry on the 1st ultimo, and left that place without notifying same to the Royal Irish'^ Con- stabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. DESCRIPTION of John M'Curdy ( mother's surname, Callaghan), native of Lemnaghmore, who stands charged on suspicion with having, on the Uth day of September, 1879, at Craiglappin, in tho barony of Carey, parish of Ballintoy, dangerously assaulted Neal M'Conaghy :— Gray eyes, slightly drooped nose, fair complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 16 years of age, fair hair; wore a cap, tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of John M'Alister, native of Sheltin ' ark, who stands charged with having, on the 25th ay of . June, 1878, in the barony of Upper Dunluce, irish of Loughguile, lorged, and on the 26th day of ine, 1878, uttered a certain promissory note for £ 5, knowing the same to bo forged, with intent to defraud, and failed to appear at Dervock Petty Sessions, on 2nd September, 1^ 79, on summons to answer to the charge:— Speaks very politely, smacks his lips while talking, bald on top of head, slightly round shoulders, leans a little forward when walking, high cheek bones and sunken jaws, blue ejes, long drooped nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make 6 leet 10 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair turning gray, small whiskers ; wore a brown hat, long blue pilot coat with outside pockets, check trowsers and vest; is a farmer. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of Five o'clock, on the morning of the 22nd ultimo, the body of James Neagle, was found on the public road, in the townland of Kineilty, in the county of Clare, murdered by some person or persons at present unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest oi the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Thomas Butler, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Kilkee, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the night of 20th June, 1879, an old man named Thomas Devonport, who resided in the townland of Ballaghaline, in the parish of Killilagh, and county of Clare, was strangled in his bed by some person or persons unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to ofler a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such infor- mation as shall lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by T. DESCRIPTION of Michael M'Namara ( mother's name Considine), native of Kilmoon East, who stands charged with having, on the 28th August, 187P, at Kilmoon West, in the barony of Burren, parish of Kilmoon, seriously assaulted Jamts Fla- herty, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby endangering his life :— slightly pockmarked, stands erect, and appears excited when spoken to; dark eyes, short thick nose, pale complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, dark tweed vett; is a farmer's son. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.80 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, the 2nd day of April, 1878 William Sydney, Earl of Leitrim, John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown: , His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1879, lead to the arrest of the persons who committed the same, or any of them. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieu'en* nt. that on the afternoon of the 21st August, 1879, the body of James Brosnan was found in a meadow near his own house, in the townland of Pilgrimhill, near Listowel, in the county of Kerry, murdered by some person or persons unknown : His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED pOuNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. DESCRIPTION of a man, namo unknown, supposed to be Doyle, a native of county Louth, who stands charged with having, ou the 1 Ith September, 1879 in the barony of Magonihy, parish of Kilcummin and townland of Scrahanfadda, stolen a cow, the property of Catherine Clifford:— Remarkably large head, slug- gish appearance, and looks like a tramp, drives cattle sometimes for jobbers, and recently worked as a navvy on the railway now being made near Listowel ; was returning home, and will likely dispose of the cow on his way back; sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 6 feet 10 inches high, and about 30 years of age; small brown whiskers meeting under chin. Description of the cow:— A red- coloured cow, with " hoobey" horns ( crooked and turned towards head), white spot on forehead, in calf, and not much larger than a " Kerry" cow ; value fjr about £ 5 10*. DESCRIPTION of James Coffey, native of Queen's County, who stands charged with hiving, on the ' 9th December, 1867, in the baronv of Kilkea and Moone, parish of Killellan, murdered William Dunne, of Ballyadams, Queen's County. ( See Hue- and- Cry of December, 1867.) It is supposed that this offender has returned to the country :— Down- looking appear- ance, heavy ripper lip, speaks with coarse flat accent and slight lisp, shaved, except small whiskers; sunken gra" eves, regular no? e, dark complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 65 years of age, gray hair; wears a tall hat ( worn well down on forehead), blue coat, corduroy trowsers, black vest. DESCRIPTION of Michael Gillooly, native of Ballin- gally, county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 8th September, 1879, at Ballinlough, ia the barony of Small County, parish of Ballinlough, seriously assaulted Thomas Nihile with a loaded stick, fracturing his skull, thereby endangering his life:— Cut mark on bridge of nose, wears all his beard; gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, oval faee stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. DUBLIN CASTLE, Sth September, 1379. WerEaEAS It has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 12.15 o'clock, A. M., on the 2Hh ultimo, Thomas Tandy, Esq., was found dead ON his own land at Johnsbrook, in the county of Meath, having been murdered by some person or persons unknown; His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within SIX months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same ; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Captain the Honorable T. O. Plunkett, the Resident Magistrate at Navan, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Procla- mation. DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of the late Thomas Tandy, of Johnsbrook, county Meath, esq., stolen on the day of his murder, 24th August, 1879:— gold hunting watch, three- quarter- plate leyer, with enamel dial, and engine- turned cases; " West and Son, Dublin, 4544," engraved upon the move- ment, and probably the name " West and Son'* also painted on the dial. This watcli has been in wiar since 1863, and can be identified. Athboy, Sept. 4, 1879. ( 23165 c 10181.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Deignan, native of Martins- town, Athboy, who stands charged with having, on the 30th August, 1879, in the barony of Lune, parish of Athboy, received from his employer ( Owen Murtagh), 8 head of cattle ( value for about £ 130). to sell in Manchester market, and with having embezzled the proceeds of the sale of said cattle:— Stooped shoulders generally carried a brown frieze overcoat across his arm, and a long thin stick in his hand, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 65 years of 8ge, dark hair turning gray; wore a large soft felt hat, frock coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a cattle jobber. DESCRIPTION of John Fitzsimons, mother's surname Keaveny, native of Cloncraff, wh> stands charged with having, on the J 9th August, 1879, in the barony of Ballintober North, parish of Kilglass, n one of a party who waylaid and assaulted chael and James Doherty, of Liscolvin, on the public road at Moyglass :— Cheek bones a littte prominent, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, hroad face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a small round hat, common make ; dark frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest; is a labourer. Sligo., DESCRIPTION of Tersnce Scanlon ( mother's su-- name, Neary), native ef Sligo town, who stands charged with having, on the 13th September, 1879, in the town ol Sligo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of St. John's, assaulted his wife, Margaret Scanlon, by kicking her OH the head, and inflicting two serious wounds, which endanger hair life:— Little finger of right hand crooked, small cut mark on forehead, brown eyes, regular nore, fresh complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 1inches high, about 34 years of age, brown hair, wore a low felt hat, blue frock coat, corduroy trowse s, tweed vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place ur- known. who stands charged with having, on the 4 th Sep- tember, 1879, nt Aughris, in the barony of Tireragh, parish of Templeboy, been one of a party who entered the lodgings of James Cunningham, and dragge i him out, cutting off part of his left ear, and firing shots outside house:— Straigl it nose, dark complexion, long face, very stout make, 5 feet 11 inches h'gh, about 30 years of age; red hair, sandy beard on chin ; wore a soft black hat, old frieze coat. DESCRIPTION of Edward Maher, native of Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 19th of Sep- tember, 1879, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Cordangan, seriously assaulted his sister, Winifred . Maher, by striking her on the head, and fracturing her skull:— Blue eyes, long thin nose, fair com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 17 years of age, fair hair; wore a cap, tweed coat,, trowsers and vest; is a labourer. Tipperary, Sipt. 20, 1879. ( 23532 c.— 40568.) DESCRIPTION of John Breen, native of Ayle, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day ol September, 1879, in the barony of Clanwilliam parish of Sollogheadmore, dangerously assaulted John Bradshawe, by striking him several times on the head with a shovel, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— heavy gait, gray eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, th n faco, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft black hat, black tweed coat, trowsers and vest.
