On the same day the gold lever Watch, No. 44004, was pledged iu Manchester for £ 3, by a man from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, slender build, dark hair aud complexion, aud whiskers round his face ; dressed in a b! ack cloth suit, spotted shirt with imitation gold studs, pot hat, and old shoes. £ 20 leward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and couvic tion of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Description of a woman going about to linendrapers and others, and passing bad cheques, drawn upou the City Building Society Bank : about 30 years of age, good looking, tall aud thin ; dressed in a black riuk hat aud tall, black sills dress and paletot; cheque signed ' Henry Cook,' and endorsed ' Louisa Drew.' Stolen from the person at Lichfield Races, on 16th inst. a pair of Field Glasses, made of black morocco leather, sun- shade sight, marked with scratch of a pin on barrel. Stolen from the person, at the Great Western Railway Station, Neath, on 12th instant: a silver hunting Watch, No. 13062, makers— Gaiiz and Co. ; and a Bilver Albert, with Half a Rupee, dated ' 1840,' attached. S.' engraved on the back of • outer case, and gold dial, maker— Arnold and Lewis, Man- chester, No. 44004; a gold lever Watch, gold dial, made by s- jme one in Liverpool ; agent's gold Albert, 18 carat, each link chased and stamped, curb pattern, has au axe at the end ii go through button hole, also a Seal with two different coloured stones iu which form a key; a gold Necklet and Lickat with diamonds, iu shape of a leaf ; a gold Necklet, Prince Of Wales' pattern, and a Pendant, set with pearls and turquoise, with photo of a lady at the back; a black jet During the night of 17th instant, a farm house at High Catton, was broken aud eutered, and stolen therein : 5 Bottles of Gin, 2 of Bum, 2 of Sherry, and 3 fivtit Pies, the spirits are in ordinary 3 gill bottles, the corks of which are marked in ink ' G.' ' B' ' S.', which denotes the contents. Also during the night of 18th instant, the vicarage bouse at Scrayingham, was broken aud eutered, aud stolen therein a silver pepper Castor, with crest, nearly woru out ; 4 silver Tea Spoons, crest-^ boars head ; a silver punch Ladle, handle broken off; a silver Pencil Case; a silver Spy Glass, 8 or 9 inches long, wilh slide; a fruit Knife, with pearl handle and silver blade; an old- fashioned fruit Knife, with gold handle and silver blade ; 2 glass Cloths, iu blue squares ; and a white harding Apron, marked ' A. Anderson.' Both supposed by a man, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, proportionate figure ; dressed iu a dark suit of clothes, trousers supposed dark cord, black stiff low felt hat, and boots without nails. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wood, Police Station, Pocklington, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 22, Stolen during the night of 15th instant : a man's grey small pla il loose- fitting Coat, or jacket, with two pockets out side and one inside left breast, light bone buttons ; a dark grey worsted cloth Overcoat, bound with black braid, has the name ' Beaty, Brothers, Manchester,' on the tab ; a mackintosh Coat, black on one side, light on the other, without one button at the bottom ; a black Rug, striped with red on one side, and hemmed with yellow worsted ; a 2- foot Rule, doubles in four ; a pocket Book, containing County Court Papers. In formation to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire. Bow- street, Sept. 19. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 10 p m. on 12th and 5 a. m. on 13th instant, at Rassington Grange : grey or drab cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, drab velvet collar, two rows of buttons dowu front, two pockets and ticket pocket outside, one of the pockets contained a pair of drab driving Gloves, also the glass part of a toy Looking- glass, size 3 in. by 2 iu., round top, and about 1 lb. of cooked Ham two silver Teaspoons, marked ' T. I.', are cracked half way across the mouth ; a common Tablespoon ; pair of man's grey worsted 8ocks, has the letters ' G. I.' in red cotton thread marked near the topa ; a church Missionary Box, containing Money; and a copy of the ' Doiicaster, Nottingham and Lincoln Gazette, 12th September, 1879.' The Missionary Box has since been found broken open and its contents taken away. Supposed by tramps. Between 7.45 and 8.15 p. m. on 16th instant, three or four men entered a bed- room ou the first floor at Chilston House, Tunbridge We. ls, by means of a ladder, and stole a silver demi- hunting Watch, outside dial has blue fi^ ur.- s, the seconds baud is gone. They escaped in a horse and cart. The wedges with which they secured the doors were left behind, aud appear to have frequently been used for a similar pur- pose. Information to the Head Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, September 19. Stolen between 11pm. ou 16th, and 1' 30 a. m. on 17th instant, at Thorganby : a silver lever Watch, No. 1336, maker Keiser, York ; a silver Albert Guard ; a brass Key ; a brass Seal, red stone ; a steel Chain ; aud a steel Seal, a cross ou th « bottom. Also stolen between 11 p. m. on 16th, and 6 a. m. on 17th instant, at Wheldrake : a brown leather Purse, ' Friendship' printed upou it, containing 8d. in Coppers; a jet Brooch, with a flower upon it ; a cornelian Brooch, silver back ; a silver Thimble; and a clasp pruning Knife, with a Saw attached. During the night of 11th instant, the ' King's Head hotel, Leicester, was entered, the articles stolen were pledged on 12th iu& taut: by a man, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 4 inchea kigh, sandy complexion and hair, no moustache, but appeared to have one shaved off 2 or ? weeks ago, had a broad blue ring tattooed on middle finger of each hand, rather slight make, f dressed in light drab or stone Soloured double- breasted vest, large check, dark tweed coat, supposed cord trousers, aud black billycock hat, with narrow brim. Stolen on 12th instant: five Night- dresses ; five pairs of Drawers; five Chemises ; two Pillow- cases, all Jong cloth; two Bodices, fine linen ; two pairs Blankets, uncut; a white flannel Dressing Gown ; a white flannel Petticoat; a black chamber Dre3s, trimmed beading; a black velvet Skirt, plain; a white chamber Dress, trimmed dark blue velvet; a pair of lace Curtains ; two white honeycomb Counterpaues all new, some marked ' R. Willis,' some ' S. A. Willis' iu ink, Metropolitan Police, S Division, September 17, Stolen on 13th instant: a dark blue Chesterfield Over- coat, pocket on hips, one inside left breast; four pairs witney Blankets ; a marcella Quilt, white fringe, all new ; a grey ostrich Feather ; a gold filigree Brooch, blue enamel in centre; a large old- fashioned square gold Bing, set with rubies in row ( two deficient); an old- fashioned cream Jug, fluted handle and top ; eighteen penny Postage Stamps; a gold Locket, photograph of a gentleman inside; and a large wooden Box.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, September 17. Between 10 p. m. on 4th, and' 6 a. m. on 5th instant, the office of a corn merchant at Rochdale was broken and entered, and.£ 10 in Gold and Silver, and one ,-£ 10 Bank of England Note stolen therein. During the night of 14th instant, the vicarage house at Leightou Buzzard, 4ra » broken and entered, aud stolen therein : a silver toast Rack, deficient of oue foot, and one of the eud bars loose ; the top and bottom of a silver plated butter Dish; « '> reg black cloth Jackets, belonging i<> the servants, one & }* which bad fur on t he hntfomj - ' 5 '" black cloth Jacket and Trousers, black buttons aud hooks on. front of jacket; a blue woollen Shawl ; a white silk Necktie; and two linen and one print Aprons. Supposed by tramps, one of whom must be a small uiau or boy. Information to Mr. Superintendent Shepherd, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, September 17. Stolen on 13tli instant, at 179, Regent- street : seven pieces of coloured Silk, iu lengths of 67, 71, 54^, 55, 46i, 47$, and 70| yards, all white selvage ; eleven pieces of black Silk, iu lengths of 91, 82, and 30. J yards, white selvage; two Lengths 95 yards each, yellow selvage, 59, 85. J, 67 , 70, 20, aud 40 . yards, white p. nd mauve barred selvage, this last selvage is peculiar, and is manufactured only for the Lyons Silk Company.— Metropolitan t'olice, C Division, Sept. 17. Description of CHARLES DICKINSON, of Starbeck, wanted at Knaresbrough for housebreaking, at Oatlands- villa, Bilton with Harrogate, he has friends living at North Frodingham, Yorks, and at 55, Westmoreland- street or Boad, Walworth, London : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 iuches high, ordinary build, sallow complexion, brown hair, shaggy brown whiskers, beard, and moustache, rather light coloured at ends, rather thiu face, is of idle aud intemperate habits, a painter by trade, and may endeavour to seek employment as such ; dressed in black cloth shooting coat, grey trousers and vest, lace- up boots, brown billycock hat, had with him a macintosh overcoat, grey colour, supposed grey mixture, all his clothing is daubed with paint, except overcoat, and he may be wearing a white linen jacket under his coat. Information to Superintendent's Office, Knaresbrough, York- shire.— Bow- street, September 17.. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of WILLIAM HEPTON, charged with horsestealing : 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout built, fair complexion, full red face, no whiskers or moustache; diessed in an old rusty cutaway coat, fustian trousers and vest, and an imitation sealskin cap with peak, and carried with him a white bag, containing a decent suit of black clothes. Information to Mr. Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen at Ablington, Figheldean, Wilts, on the night of 13th instant : a brown mare Donkey, has a hole through the middle of left ear, walks a little lame, aged. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wiltshire, Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen between 3rd and 7th instant, from the Dale Farm, Wootton : 6 white faced Sheep, part ewes and part wethers, and a Lamb with long tail, each has a raddle mark ou top of rump, and two holes punched through the J ight ear, all in good condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Inspector Barrett, Police Ofib e, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 22. Charged with sheep stealiug at. Astley, Salop, on 17tk instant : JOHN WILDING, 28 years of age. 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, small dark whiskers, rather prominent cheek bones, very upright, slender build ; dressed in dark clothes, dark over.- o tt, elastic side boots, and rouud hard hat, is a carpenter i. trade, and is supposed to be working at a railway waggm works, near to Liverpool. £ 5 reward will be paid upon con victiotj. Stolen on 12th instant, from a fieid tat East Dulwich : a dark brown mare Pony, Hi hands high, bobtail, foaled about live mouths ago.— Metropolitan, Police, J? Division, Sept. 22. Two men charged with stealing a valuable light chesnut Horse, and described in Police Gazette of 3rd instant, have been apprehended.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, Sept. 22. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing two Horses at Tattingstone, on 22nd ult. : ARTHUR HEWITT, 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, pale com plexion, light hair, a few light thin whiskers, slender build ; usually dressed in long light dealer's coat, hard felt hat, and cord trousers ; native of Ipswich, and frequents fairs. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Fisher, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, September 17. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen at Croxby, on 17th instant: a pair of black pilot cloth Trousers, fly fronts, ouly one pocket which is on the right side, and a few stitches in the seam near the pocket; ik black silk Neckerchief was in the trousers pocket ; a white eotton Shirt, linen front, clean ; a pair of white woollen Socks, nearly new; a black Necktie with white spots; 1 lb. of Tea ; 1 lb. of Sugar. By an Irish labourer who lodged on the premises during the previous night, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, thick top lip, no whiskers or moustache, beard about 4 or 5 days growth ; dressed in old dark cap, peak of same material, short dark pilot jacket, old moleskin trousers, old lace- up boots. Had a small bundle when he came to Croxby, tied up in a red spotted cotton handkerchief, and carried a • walking stick. Also stolen from Kirmond le- Mire, on 15th instant : a gathering Bake, with iron head, the middle tooth loose, the shaft is black, and some of it has been cut away with a knife, aud is much worn. Information to Mr. Superintendent Henson, Police Station, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of WALTER CHARLES, alias DeRUTZEN alias BAKER, charged on warrant with larcenyabout 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thick set, fair com- plexion, blue eyes, light hair, very few light whiskers, very slight moustache, small ridge down forehead towards nose ; dressed when last seen in a shepherd's plaid suit, black round « rown hat, and a white silk tie with a gold pin. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 22. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : JOSEPH PEAKE, late of 5, Grove- road, Albion- road, Stoke Newington, 35 to 36 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, hair and moustache ( small) light brown and turning grey, long nose ; dressed in dark blue serge suit, and hard black felt hat. His mother resides at Southend. He is also well known to Mr. West, butcher, Croydon, and he has a brother residing at Bristol. Description of LEVIATHAN THORPE, a gipsy pedlar, ( wife of Ambrose Thorpe), remanded at Ely, t « U 25th instant, for stealing a Sovereign, by means of a trick as a fortune teller : 29 years of age, middle statue, black curly hair, dark eyes, and complexion ; dressed in black and white cheque shawl, black felt hat. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of WILLIAM GREGORY, alias IKA, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, clean shaved, has a rather long nose, large thumb ou left hand, round shouldered ; dressed in corduroy trousers, brown cloth vest with sleeves in, and no coat; native of Cheap- street, Newbury. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, September 22. J. SINGLETON, charged with larceny as bailee in the Police Gazette of 17th instant, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, September 22. Absconded on 18th instant, charged with embezzling £ 3 15s. : a man ( porter), 17 years of age, 5 feet high, fair com- plexion, brown hair ; dressed in dark overcoat, cord trousers, lace boots, and brown felt hat ; likely to enlist.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, September 22. THOMAS GEORGE SIMMONS, charged with stealing a Watch, at Hertford, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 25th ultimo, has been apprehended, and is remanded till 25th instant. Information to Head Constable Jarrett, Hertford. — Bow- street, September 22. Absconded, charged with embezzlement: WALTER, alias WILLIAM JAMES HENRY PONSONBY, clerk, 23 years of age, 5 fee 8 inches high, fair confplexion, brown hair and moustache, small ; dresses respectably. Warrant issued. Informatien to the Director; Criminal Investigation Department, Great Scotland Yard. — Metropolitan Police, September 22. Stolen from a shop counter at Blackburn, on 17th instant' a wash- leatiiw Ba^, a icli utpe string, containing about £ 60 in Gold ; a white Holland Bag, with tape string, containing £ 4 or £ 5 in Silver. By SAMPSON PHILLIPS, alias HARRY CROASDALE, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, but looks very dark when shaved on cheeks, slight brown moustach e, proportionate make, and active ; dressed in a dark suit of cloth clothes, dark soft billycock, and boots. He is a travelling betting man, and a very clever card player, is well knewn at all betting houses and race courses by the name of Harry Croasdale, at stops at principal hotels. Charged on warrant with embezzling £ 30 at Knares- borough : he is well known at West Hartlepool, having been employed on the North- Eastern Railway there, and in tlie woodyard and about the docks: CHARLES JOHNSON, about 35 ye^ rs of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion and eyes dark brown hair, small dark moustache and whisksrs, cut mark on right cheek, splay footed, aud stoops when walking ; dressed in woollen cord trousers, dark cloth coat, hard felt hat, small black and white check scarf, blue shirt ( coarse material), stron - lace- up boo s ( wili probably purchase new clothing); a labourer, has been a sold ; er, native of Knares- borough, can read and write. Richardson'; 1 jack Plane, 1 cross- cut Saw, 1 tenon Saw, 1 Oilstone, 1 Oil Tin, 1 Screwdriver, 1 spirit Level, 1 Hammer, 1 pair of Compasses, 1 9- inch Square, 1 tool Bass, 1 1^- inch Chisel, 1 1- inch Chisel, 4 Gauges, 1 rabbet Plane, and 6 brace Bits, all marked ' J. Nicholson' ; and a blue ribbed Coat and skull Cap.
