Notice.— It ii requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed fiffenders, or stolen property, may bear the Nignature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLIOS GAZETTE may be mane and addressed to the Editor, Police Ceurt, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it iB desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with th « advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor seauot be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and bt Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Money; and a copy of the ' Doncaster, Nottingham and Lincoln Gazette, 12th September, 1879.' The Missionary Box has since been found broken of en and its contents taken away. Supposed by tramps. Iof rmation to Mr. Superin- tendent Sykes, West Biding Constabulary, Doncaster.— Bow- street, September 19. INFORMATIONS KUEDES AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in the Bridgewater Canal at Lymm, Cheshire, on 6th instant : the dead body of a Man, naked all but a pair of cotton socks on feet, several cuts on his head supposed to have been inflicted before death. About 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy beard and moustache, aud a little bald on ti p of head. Information to Mr. Superintendent Little, Altrincham, or to Sergeant Dutton, Lymm, Cheshire.— Bm'- street, September 10. FORGERY. Description of JOSEPH DOTCHON, tailor and draper, late of Whitby, who is charged on warrant with forgery and uttering an acceptance of a Bill of Exchange for £ 75, with intent to defraud : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, rouud face, light brown hair < jut short, light brown whiskers on sides of face, shaved at chin, stout build,- walks erect, aud is of smart appearance ; generally dresses in light tweed clothes and low hard hat; has recently resided with his wife and family at Mount Plea- sant, Shrewsbury, from which place he absconded about five weeks ago ; may seek employment in soiue office. Stolen from the person at Lichfield Races, on 16th inst. : • a pair of Field Glasses, made of black morocco leather, sun- shade sight, marked with scratch of a pin on barrel. Stolen from the person, at the Great Western Railway Station, Neath, on 12th instant: a silver hunting Watch, No. 13062, makers— Ganz and Co. ; and a silver Albert, with Half a Rupee, dated ' 1840,' attached. Information to Head Constable Phillips, Neath, Glamorganshire. — Bow- street, September 17. Stolen from the person in Berwick- on- Tweed, on 5th instant : a gentleman's silver English lever Watch, No. 1008, a good deal worn, had steel Guard attached. In- formation to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- on- Tweed Northumberland.— Bow- street, September 12. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen during the night of 15th instant : a man's grey . small pi t d loose- fitting Coat, or jacket, with two pockets out- side and one inside left breast, light bone buttons ; a dark grey worsted cloth Overcoat, bound with black braid, has the name ' Beaty, Brothers, Manchester,' on tile tab ; a mackintosh Coat, black On one side, light on the other, without one button at the bottom ; a black Bug, striped with red. ou one side, and hemmed with yellow worsted ; a 2- foot Rule, doubles iu four ; a pocket, Book, containing Couuty Court Papers. In formation to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Laucashire.— Bow- street, Sep'.. 19. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 10 p. m. on 12th and 5 a. m. on 13th instant, at Rassington Grange: a grey or drab cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, drab velvet collar, two rows of buttons down front, two pockets, and ticket pocket outside, one of the pockets contained a pair of drab driving Gloves, also the glass part of a toy Lookiug- glass, size 3 iu. b. v 2 in., rouud top, aud about 1 lb. of cooked Ham ; two silver Teaspoons, marked ' T. I,', are cracked half way across the mouth ; a common Tablespoon ; pair of man's gre. v worsted Socks, has the letters ' G. I.' iu red cotton thread in irked near the tops ; a church Missionary Box, containing Between 7.45 and 8.15 p. m. on 16th instant, three or four men entered a bed- room on the first floor at Chilston House, Tunbridge Wells, by means of a ladder, and stole a silver demi- hunting Watch, outside dial has blue figures, the seconds hand is gone. They escaped in a horse and cart. The wedges with which they secured the doors were left behind, and appear to have frequently been used for a similar pur- pose. Stolen between 11 p. m. on 16th, and l- 30 a. m. on 17th instant, at Tborgauby : a silver lever Watch, No. 1336, maker Keiser, York ; a silver Albert Guard ; a brass Key ; a brass Seal, red stone ; a steel Chain; and a steel Seal, a cross on the bottom. Also stolen between 11 p. m. on 16th, and 6 a. m. on 17th instant, at Wheldrake : a brown leather Purse, ' Friendship ' printed upon it, containing 8d. in Coppers ; a jet Brooch, with a flower upon it ; a cornelian Brooch, silver back ; a silver Thimble; and a clasp pruning Knife, with a Saw attached. Information to Inspector Farrah, Police Station, Escrick, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 19. During the night of 11th instant, the ' King's Head' hotel. Leicester, was entered, the articles stolen were pledged on 12th instant: by a man, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sandy complexion and hair, no moustache, but appeared to have one shaved off 2 or 3 weeks ago, had a broad blue ring tattooed on middle finger of each hand, rather slight make ; dressed iu light drab or stone coloured double- breasted vest, large check, dark tweed coat, supposed cord trousers, and black billycock hat, with narrow brim. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Peberdy, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, September 19. Stolen on 12th instant: five Night- dresses ; five pairs of Drawers ; five Chemises ; two Pillow- cases, all long cloth; two Bodices, fine linen ; two pairs Blankets, uncut; a white flannel Dressing GWn ; a white flannel Petticoat; a black chamber Dress, trimmed beading ; a black velvet Skirt, plain; a white chamber Dress, trimmed dark blue velvet; a pair of lace Curtains ; two white honeycomb Counterpane* all new, some marked ' R. Willis,' some ' S. A. Willis' in ink, — Metropolitan Police, S Division, September 17. Stolen on 13th instant : a dark blue Chesterfield Over- coat, pocket on hips, one inside left breast; four pairs witney Blankets; a marcella Quilt, white fringe, all new ; a grey ostrich Feather ; a gold filigree Brooch, blue enamel in centre; a large old- fashioned square gold Ring, set with rubies in row ( two deficient) ; an old- fashioned cream Jug, fluted handle and top; eighteen penny Postage Stamps; a gold Locket, photograph of a gentleman inside ; and a large wooden Box.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, September 17, Between 10 p. m. on 4th, and 6 a. m. on 5th instant, the office of a corn merchant at Rochdale was broken and entered, and £ 70 in Gold and Silver, and one £ 10 Bank of England Note stolen therein. Information to Chief Constable Stevens, Town Hall, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bow- street, September 17. During the night of 14th instant, the vicarage house at Leighton Buzzard, was broken aud entered, aud stolen therein : a silver toast Rack, deficient of one foot, and one of the end bars loose ; the top and bottom of a silver plated butter Dish; three black cloth Jackets, belonging to the servants, one of which had fur on the bottom ; a page boy's black cloth Jacket and Trousers, black buttons and hooks on front of jacket; a blue woollen Shawl ; a white silk Necktie and two linen aud one print, Aprons. Supposed by tramps, one of whom must be a small man or boy. Information to Mr. Superintendent Shepherd, Leighton Buzzard, Beds. Bow- street, September 17. Stolen on 13th instant, at 179, Regent- street: seven pieces of coloured Silk, in lengths of 67, 71, 54J, 55, 46|, 47£. and 70^ yards, all white selvage ; eleven pieces of black Silk iu length's of 91, 82, and 30 J yards, white selvage; two Lengths 95 yards each, yellow selvage, 59, 85J, 67 , 70, 20. aud 40 yards, white J>. nd mauve barred selvage, this last selvage is peculiar, and is manufactured only for the Lyons Silk Company.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, Sept. 17. Description of CHARLES DICKINSON, of Starbeck wanted at Knaresbrough for housebreaking, at Oatlands- villa, Biltonwith Harrogate, he has friends living at North Frodingham, Yorks, and at 55, Westmoreland- street or Road. Walworth, London : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ordinary build, sallow complexion, brown hair, shaggy brown whiskers, beard, and moustache, rather light coloured at euds, rather thin face, is of idle and intemperate habits, a painter by trade, and may endeavour to seek employment as such; dressed iu black cloth shooting coat grey trousers and vest, lace- up boots, brown billycock hat, had with him a macintosh overcoat, grey colour, supposed grey mixture, all his clothing is daubed with paint, except overcoat, and he may be wearing a white linen jacket under his coat. Stolen on 10th instant, by means of housebreaking: 1 black smooth Overcoat, single- breasted, two pockets outsit . and one inside left breast, black covered buttons ; 1 black rough Overcoat of a similar description; 1 black cutaway Coat, pocTcets behind in laps, one inside left breast; 1 pair of grey tweed Trousers, fly fronts, and cross pockets ; 1 pair of blue cloth Trousers, same make ; 1 pair men's knitted drab worsted Stockings ; 2 pairs of women's drab cotton Stockings; 2 flannel Petticoats, calico binder two inches broad with string; 2 men's pink check cotton Shirts ; 1 black stuff Dress, buttous in front with black buttons ; 1 man's black satin Yest, black covered buttons, two pockets outside ; 1 medium- sized table Cloth, with small white flowers; 3 Chemises, unbleached. Supposed by tramps. Information to Mr. Superintendent Crawford, Epworth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 15. The Director of Criminal Investigations desires to call the attention of all police to numerous Silk Robberies recently effected iu the Metropolitan Police District, and lie will feel greatly indebted for auy information concerning persons who may have undergone punishment or are suspected of this class of offence, or of shop and warehouse breaking ; and he further begs that particular attention may be directed to possible receivers of such property.— Bow- sc., Sept. 15. Stolen at Bolton, during the night of 9th instant : 4 meerschaum Pipes ; 7 do. cigar Holders; 14 boxes of Cigars, some of the Boxes are marked " Parker's ' Kuownsley' Cigar" ; 4 briar- root Pipes and Cases ; 20 ditto without Cases; 10 one shilling boxes of ' Moscow' Cigars. Stolen between 12 p. m. on 8th, and 4 a. m. on 9th instant, from a farmhouse at Harworth, Notts, supposed by some passing tramps going to Doncaster Races : a silver Tea- pot, old- fashioned ; a silver sugar Basin ; a silver cream Jug ; four silvi'i- table Spoons, marked ' S.'; a large iilver Ladle ; four silver tea Spoons, marked ' S:' ; a silver gravy Spoon, marked ' E. S.'; a silver toast Rack ; a silver Snuff- box, marked with Freemason's sign ; a silver mustard Pot; a silver Cover for butter disti, with cow knob ; five silver Thimbles; eleven plated Forks ; six plated tea Spoons, marked ' A. H. S.' ; and a gold wedding Ring. Information to Mr. Superintendent Irwin, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, September 12. AND CATTLE STEALING. THOMAS WYATT, advertised iu the Police Gazette of loth September, 1876, charged with stealing a ewe Sheep, is not to be apprehended.— Bow- st, reet, September 19. Stolen from a field at Egerton, Kent, during the night of 16th instant: a bay mare Pouy, about 13 hands high, 2 years old, broom tail, black points, two marks cut iu hair on near shoulder, value £ 12. Information to Mr. Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, Sept. 19. The bay Horse Pony, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 17th instant, stolen at Shinfield, Berks, has been found. Bow- street, September 19. Found on 8th instant, at Marston- on- Dove, supposed stolen: a brown mare Pony, 12 or 13 hands high, about 4 years old, tail docked, and in good condition. Information to Inspector Hollingworth, Constabulary Station, Church Broughton; Derbyshire,— Bow- street, September 17. Stolen from Aslacton, on 10th instant, a black mare Pony, aged, 12 hands high, tail cut short, hair chafed off the fore- foot near the hoof, a small lump on near shoulder, grey hairs under the jaw and in the mane. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Seamen, Pulham, Harleston, Norfolk.— Bow- street, September 17. Found at Litton near Tideswell, on. 28th ultimo: five Heifers, all rising three years old, three of the Heifers are of a roan colour, and two red and white, oue near calving, three marked, they are all apparently well bred. Information to Mr. Superintendent Barker, Police Office, Bakewell, Derby- shire.— Bow- street, September 17. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing two Horses at Tattingstone, on 22nd ult. : ARTHUR HEWITT, 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, pale com- plexion, light hair, a few light thin whiskers, slender build ; usually dressed in loug light dealer's coat, hard felt hat, aud cord trousers ; native of Ipswich, and frequents fairs. 1,. for- mation to Mr. Superintendent Fisher, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, Septeniber 17. Stolen at Main Hill, Meifod, Montgomeryshire, about lst instant: 2 mare Ponies, one dark brown, white star on forehead, about 12 hands high; the other a chesnut, white star on forehead, broken knees ; both of tteni aged, long tails, unshod, in good condition. Information to Mr. Superiuten- dent Ellis, Welshpool, or to P. C. Richards, Meifod, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, September 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Martindale, Church Westmoreland, ou 8th instant: 1 tenon Saw, 2 smoothing Planes, 1 Chisel, 2 framing Hammers, 1 ripper Saw, 1 Mallet, 1 bench Hammer, all marked ' J. Richardson '; 1 jack Plane, 1 cross- cut Saw, 1 tenon Saw, 1 Oilstone, 1 Oil Tin, 1 Screwdriver, 1 spirit Level, 1 Hammer, 1 pair of Compasses, 1 9- dnch Square, 1 tool Bass, 1 lj- inch Chisel, I 1- inch Chisel, 4 G;. uges, 1 rabbet Plane, and 6 brace Bits, all marked 1 J. Nicholson' ; and a blue ribbed Coat and skull Cap. By RICHARD TAYLOR, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higk, light com- plexion and hair, blue eyes, light whiskers all " round the face, slight moustache, slender figure, lost several upper front teeth ; dressed in an old brown ribbed .. cost, black or drab vest, corduroy or drab trousers, < lace* up boots ( newly soled), black hard felt hat; a joiner on tramp, served his time with Mr. C. Blades, of Lancaster. His wife - resides at Springfield, Salford. Information to Mr. Superintendent Spencer, Appleby, Westmoreland, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September i9. Absconded on 17th instant, charged with stealing Jll a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, complexion hair, and eyes dark ; dress, black frock coat, black trousers, deerstalker' hat, smart appearance.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, September 1,9. Description of EDWARD MELLORS, charged on warrant with stealing at Aston, near Birmingham, on 6th instant, a silver lever Watch, large size, No. 15221, steal Chain attached; a £ 5 Bank of England Note; and £ 2 19s. bd. He is about years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, florid complexion, large red nose, and clean shaved ; dressed in dark blue cloth jacket, tight- fitting cord trousers, and black cap with peak ; he is a trainer of running and boxing men ; well known in Leicester, where he has a wife living. Supposed to be a native of London. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gallaway, Aston, near Birmiugham.- Bow- street, September 19. Absconded on 17th instant, charged with embezzlement a baker, 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, complexion dark, no whiskers or moustache ; dress, check plaid coat and vest, dark trousers, white cap.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, September 19. Description of J. SINGLETON, late of Bath, travelling watch and clock jobber, charged with stealing a silver Watch, entrusted to him to cleau : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, long features, slightly made, and deformed, the left shoulder being higher than the right one ; dressed in a dark round jacket, pockets at side, brown trousers, round hard hat ; carries a small black leather bag and umbrella, and distributes printed bills at the places he stops at, representing that he cleans and repairs every description of English and foreign clocks, timepieces, and watches. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Bath, Somerset, who holds a warrant for his appre hension.— Bow- street, September 17. Stolen at Betton, Salop, on 6th instant, one pair of elastic side Boots ( man's size), and nearly new ; one pair of brown cotton cord Trousers, recently washed, with small patch on tke inside of right leg near the bottom, brown bone buttons, and fall fronts ; and a red and white spotted Neckerchief. By RICHARD JOB SMITH, alias ALBERT WILLIAMS 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, mole on chest and left cheek, cut on nose, is a labourer, and a native of Stoke- upon- Trent, Staffordshire ; dressed in plaided jacket with black velvet collar, double- breasted vest of the same material, both much worn, dark grey cloth trou- sers, nearly new, black hard felt bat, and the stolen boots. He was convicted at Stafford Quarter Sessions in October last, and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for stealing J1 lis. 6d. at Ashley, and is now supposed to be wanted at Burton- upon- Trent for felony ; he is well known to the police at Uttoxeter, Stoke- upon- Treut, and other pottery towns. Information to Mr. Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Merricks, Market Drayton, Salop, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 17. Absconded from Dundee, on 5th instant, having embezzled over £ 700 : WILLIAM FALCONER, native of Dundee, clerk, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark curly hair, dark eyes, sallow complexion, regular features, has the appearance of a foreigner ; dressed in a grey tweed cloth sporting hat, old brownish- grey tw< ed suit, which was shabby and well worn, crimson tie, white shirt, Shakspeare collar, and gold studs. H e carried with him a small black hand bag, a light grey tweed suit, new, which he will now it is supposed be wearing, a steel grey felt hat, new, with square crown, and a dark tweed cloak, fastening at the neck with buckle and chain. He booked a passage under the name of Andrew Thomson, and sent his luggage on board an Australian steamer, which sailed from Gravesend on Tuesday last, and touched at Plymouth on 11th instant, but he has not proceeded by the steamer. Officers of police at shipping ports are particularly requested to make immediate inquiry at shipping agents, & c., with the view of ascertaining whether any person answering the above description has actually shipped outwards, as by this means information may be obtained which might lead to his capture abroad. It is pro- bable that he would change Scotch Bauk notes for gold. A sheriff's warrant has ' teen granted for his apprehension, and J20 reward will be paid by Thos. Nicholson, accountant, Dundee, to any one giving such information to W. B. Dunbar, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, Dundee, or to the Subscriber, as will lead to his apprehension and conviction, and an additional reward of 5 per cent, on the amount of money which may be recovered will be paid by the said Thomas Nicholson to the person or persons who may recover the same. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dewar, Central Police Chambers, Dundee, Forfar.— Bow- street, September 15. Further information respecting HENRY GIBSON, charged ou warrant with larceny as a bailee, at Kibworth Beauchamp, nea*- Market Harborough, Leicestershire, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 8th kstant : he was con- victed on 25th February, 1873, at Reading Assizes, in the name of FREDERICK GEORGE HANCOCK, on a charge of stealing watches, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude, be was discharged on license from Millbank Prison, on 31st August, 1878 ; he is the same man who is advertised in the Police Gazette on 6th and 20th ultimo, in the name of J. CROSBY, wanted at Kendal for stealing a Watch, he is also believed to be the same man who is wanted at Reading, Preston, Doncaster, and other places, for similar offences : he is 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark or sallow complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, whiskers, and mous- tache, turning grey, and shaved on chin, scar right of neck and outside right shin, two on chest, iptured right side, mole on chest, slight scar back of right j nd, mole above left shoulder, hangs his head a little on on quick step, is a little deaf, and has thet,:. like a Swiss or German ; he is of respect carri> s a black satchel, containing watchmaking tools, and a walking- stick; his mode of operation is to take lodgings in some town, and go into the surrounding villages, with small printed cards, stating that he is a clock and watch maker, & c., he has a plausible manner, and ingratiates himself with the people, especially at public- houses, by this means watches, & c. are entrusted to him to clean or repair, which he either pawns or sells and then absconds. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Holloway, Constabulary Office, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen at High Halstow, Kent, on 11th instant: a ladies gold Ring, set with pearls ; 2 do. set with rubies ; 1 gold Geneva Watch, supposed No. 114287 ; and about 30s. in 8ilver. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10J inches high, very slight build, thin face, long red nose, fair com- plexion, light hair cut close, small red mark under one eye, no moustache, little beard, on point of chin ; dressed in monkey jacket, striped vest, check cloth trousers patched on seat and knees, cloth cap peak of same material; he is a tailor. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, Sept. 15.
