No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1879. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 2 REWARD. OBTAINED by fraud, on the 8th inst., in this borough, a horse pony, by Thomas Rodgers, 38 years of age, o ft. 4 in. high, brown hair, slight whiskers on cheeks, bristling moustache, ruddy complexion, no roof to his mouth and talks through his nose. The cartilage of nostril cut through. Dressed in a pepper and salt suit of clothes, and hard billycock hat, and carried a mackintosh on his arm. ( The pony is a dark bay Russian horse, 14 hands 1 in. high, small white star on forehead, two or three white spots on back, square tail, long mane, and in good condition. The above reward will be paid by the owner for the recovery of the popy and apprehension of Rodgers, or for such information as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Chief Inspector NORT- CLIFFE. Detective Department, Town Hall, Leeds, 13th September, 1879. ( 23444c.— 40441.) SCOTTISH POLICE. £ 20 REWARD for Apprehension, and 5 per cent, on Money Recovered. Absconded from this Burgh, on Friday, 5th instant, having within the last twelve months em- bezzled over £ 700, the property of his employer, Thomas Nicholson, Accountant " here, William Fal- coner, native of Dundee, Clerk:— Abou*; 95 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark and curly hair, dark eyes, sallow complexion, regular features. Has tho appearance of a foreigner. Dressed when he absconded in a gray tweed cloth sporting bat, an old, brownish- gray tweed suit, which was shabby and well worn. He carried with him in a small black hand- bag a light gray tweed suit, new, which he will now, it is supposed, be wearing. He had also wiih him a steel gray felt hat, new, with square crown, and a dark tweed cloak, fastening at the neck with buckle and chain, which he had worn when serving in the ranks of the Forfarshire Light Horse Yeomanry. He wore a crimson tie, white shirt, Shakspeare collar, atid gold studs. Tne accused booked a passage ( under the name of Andrew Thomson) and sent his luggage on board an Australian Steamer, which sailed from Gravesend on Tuesday last, and touched at Plymouth yesterday, 11th instant, but he has not proceeded by the steamer. Officers of police at shipping ports are particularly requested to make immediate inquiry at Shipping Agents, Ac. with the view of ascertaining whether any purson answering the above description has actually shipped outwards, as by this means information may l> e obtained which might lead to his capture abroad. It is probable that the accused would, with the view of going abroad, change Scotch Bank notes for gold. A Sheriffs warrant has been granted for his apprehension, and the above reward of £ 20 will be paid by Thomas Nicholson, accountant. Dundee, to any one giving such information to W. B. Dunbar, 10 quire, Procurator- Fiscal, Dundee, or to the sub- Hcriber, as will lead to his apprehension and con- ' ictioQ ; and an additional reward of 5 per cent on the amount of money which may be recovered will lie paid by the said Thos. G Division. PARTICULARS Relative to English licence- holder John Leany, A. 1610, convicted at Dum Dum, Calcutta, 8th December, 1874, for insubordination and violently resisting escort, and sentenced to 6 years' penal servitude:— 24 years of age on con- viction, is single, a labourer, born at Skreen, county Meath, formerly a soldier in 62nd Regiment, slender build, oval visage, and 5 feet 8J inches high, scar on bridge of nose and right elbow, nose inclines to left side, mole on inside of right arm and on right breast. This convict was discharged from Portland Convict Prison, on 18th June, 1879, and reported himself to the Dublin Metropolitan Police, 26th June. 1879, and stated he was going to Skreen, county Meath. He reported himself to the Royal Irish Constabulary at Kilmoon, county Meath, 26th July, 1879, but not since, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 84 and 35 Vic., cap. 113.. General Prisons Board, September 11, 1879. ( 16531 M.— 28795.) PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder James Doran, v. 674, convicted at Ramsey, Isle of Man, on 18th November, 1869, for beastiality, and sentenced to 14 years penal servitude:— 18 years of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Ireland, resided before conviction in Ramsey ; dark brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visa. e, propor- tionate make, 5 feet 6 inches high. This convict was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, 19th June, 1879, on a special licence, and went to reside at Ramsey. He reported his arrival at Newry on the 1st ultimo, and left that place without notifying same to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. DESCRIPTION of John M'Alister, native of Sheltin Park, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of June, 1878, in the barony of Upper Dunluce, parish of Loughguile, lorged, and on the 26th day of June, 1878, uttered a certain promissory note for £ 95, knowing the same to be forged, with intent to defraud, and failed to appear at Dervock Petty Sessions, on 2nd September, 1879, on Eummons to answer to the charge:— Speaks very politely, smacks his lips while talking, bald on top of head, slightly round shoulders, leans a little forward when walking, high cheek bones and sunken jaws, blue eyes, long drooped nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make. 5 feet 10 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair turning gray, small whiskers ; wore a brown hat, long blue pilot coat with outside pockets, check trowsers and vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, supposed to have been stolen, which was sold to a dealer, under value, in Bagenalstown, on the evening of the 8th instant ( fair day), by two tramps, whose description appears in Hue- and- Cry of 9th instant, under the head of " Kilkenny":— Red and white colour, most re 1 on right side; rather straight horns, down off right hip, three years old, large udder, in good condition, and value for about £ 10. DESCRIPTION of John Lantry ( mother's surname Harten), native of Derries, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of August, 1879, in the barony of Clonmahon, parish of Scrabby, at Salla- ghan, committed an affray, in which Edward Brady and Charles Mulligan were stabbed, and their lives endangered— see Hue- and- Cry dated 19th August, 1879 ( 28053 c.— 3981 1) :— gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, slight make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair ; wore a black cap, dark frieze coat, dark cord trowsers, dark frieze vest t is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Briody ( mother's name Mary Coyle), Thomas Donahoe ( mother's name Mary Donahoe), natives of Lisney, and Thomas Lantry ( mother's name Mary Brady), native of Derries, who stand charged with having, on the 15th day of August, 1879, in the barony of Clonmahon, parish of Scrabby, at Sallaghan, committed an affray in which Edward Brady and Charles Mulligan were stabbed and their lives endangered :— 1. Daniel Briody— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, five feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a cap, bright tweed coat, trowsers, and vest ; is a shoe- maker. 2. Thomas Donahoe— Hazel eyes, hooked nose, red complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, fair hair; wore a black bat, frieze coat, black tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. 8. Thomas Lantry— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 yeais of age, fair hair; wore a soft hat, black tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DUBLIN CASTLE, 4th August, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of Five o'clock, on the morning of the 22nd ultimo, the body ot James Neagle, was found on the public road, in the townland of Kineilty, in the county of Clare, murdered by some person or persons at present unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Thomas Butler, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Kilkee, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DUBLIN CASTLE, 14th August, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the night of 20th June, 1879, an old man named Thomas Devonport, who resided in the townland of Ballaghaline, in the parish of Killilagh, and county of Clare, was strangled in his bed by some person or persons unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such infor- mation as shall lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by T. Butler, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Kilkee, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCrIPTION of Michael M'Namara ( mother's name Considine), native of Kilmoon East, who stands charged with having, on the 28th August, 1879, at Kilmoon West, in the barony of Burren, parish of Kilmoon, seriously assaulted James Fla- herty, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby endangering his life :— slightly pockmarked, stands erect, and appears excited when spoken to; dark eyes, short thick nose, pale complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, dark tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of John Keating ( mother's surname Herlihy), native of Glanagoul, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1879, in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Rathcormac, assaulted James Barry, by inflicting wounds upon his head and face with a penknife :— Gray eyes, rather cocked nose, fair complexion, broad full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 33 years of age, light brown hair; wore a felt hat, black frock coat, black trowsers, and vest— clothing of American make; is a farmer, lately returned from America. Jeremiah O'Donnell ( assault and robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 18th February, 1879. Donegal. DUBLIN CASTLE, 15th April, 1878. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.30 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, the 2nd day of April, 1878 William Sydney, Earl of Leitrim, John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown: Eis Grace, for the better apprehending and bring ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the persons who committed the same, or any of them. And His Grace is also pleased to offer a FREE PARDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said murder, other than the persons who actually com- mitted the same, in case of his giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the murder aforesaid. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid by Edmund T. Peel, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Letterkenny, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. John Jackson Maxwell ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th November, 1878. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of a woman, who gave her name as Casey, supposed native of Navan, who stands charged with having, on or about tbe 30th day of August, 1879, in the barony of Balrothery East, parish of Balrothery, stolen a purse, and the sum of £ 7 18s„ viz., one bank note, one sovereign, three, half sovereigns, and remainder in silver; and also with having obtained by fraud and false pretences a- shawl:— A slight mark on forefinger, but on which of the hands could not be ascertained; hazel eyes, sharp nose, sallow and freckled complexion, small face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 31 years of age, dark hair; wore a new brown hat, bound with brown velvet, dark muslin dress, dark gray Ulster cloak, much worn, old elastic boots, and a small old- pattern brooch. Stated she is a sempstress. She carries a baby about a month old in her arms. Description of property:—. A red leather purse, with brass and silver- coloured clasps; a dark gray shawl, with black border and black and white fringe, a piece of which is off one of the corners. Balbriggan, August 31, 1879. DUBLIN CASTLE, 5th September, 18791 WHEREAS it has been represented to tbe Lord Lieutenant, that on the afternoon of the 21st Augijf 1879, the body of James Brosnan was found iti a meadow near his own house, in tbe townland of Pilgrimhill, near Listovvel, in the county of Kerry, murdered by some person or persons unknown : His Grace, for the better apprehend ing and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid on conviction, by R. A. Massy, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Listowel, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of James Loughnane, native of Killarney, who stands charged with having, on the 20th August, 1879, at Killarney, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Killarney, stolen a silver Geneva watch, the property of Private Thomas Drennan, ,28th Regiment, which he ( Loughnane) pawned in Tralee:— Black whiskers and moustache, shaves chin, brown eyes, hooked nose, dark complexion, ordinary face, slender make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 88 years of age, looks older, dark hair; wore a long black frock coat, dark trowsers and vest. Is a tailor, and tramps from town to town. He left Listowel on 9th instant, and is supposed to have gone towards Limerick. A warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Head Constable at Killarney. Killarney, Sept. 12, 1879. ( 23426 c.— 40414.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Rice, native of Crough- croneen, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 22nd August, 1879, in the barony of Clanmaurice, parish of Dysert ( in company with John Connell, who has been arrested), waylaid and assaulted John Connell and John Moloney, of Liscullane, thereby placing the life of John Connell in danger :— Fresh cut mark on chin, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout active make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft jim- crow hat, black cloth coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. John Mackay ( forgery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th April, 1879. John O'Brien, alias John Malone ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, 24th January, 1879. Galway. DESCRIPTION of 50 sheep, the property of John Joyce, of Griggins, in the parish of Ross, which were stolen off the mountains at above place, between 20th June, 1879, and 9th September, 1879 :— Scotch and Cheviot breed, three and four years old, mixed wethers and ewes, all branded with the letters J. J. on both sides; a small piece cut off the right ear of each, and a split in the ear under where the bit was cut off; two bits off the left ear of each; most of them had black spotted faces, and are value for about £ l each. One of the wethers had a black face and a black ring round its neck, another had the letters J. J. burned on one horn. There were two tups with black heads and large horns, had holes through the horns, and one of them had a piece of wire through the horn. Oughterard, Sept. 12, 1879. ( 22866 c.— 40393.) DESCRIPTION of a greyhound bitch, stolen from Michael Phelan, Ballinabooley, parish of Ullid, barony of Iverk, on or about 30 August, 1879:— dark yellow colour, rather tall hooped back, smart looking, small knob between the stifle joint and paw of one of the hind legs, caused by a slight injury, lies slightly back when travelling, about 3| years of age ; answers to the name of " Phoenix." DESCRIPTION of Michael Gillooly, native of Ballin- gally, county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 8th September, 1879, at Ballinlough, in the barony of Small County, parish of Ballinlough, seriously assaulted Thomas Nihile with a loaded stick, fracturing his skull, thereby endangering his life:— Cut mark on bridge of nose, wears all his beard; gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 8f inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th September, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 12.15 o'clock, A. M., on the 25th ultimo, Thomas Tandy, Esq., was found dead on his own land at Johnsbrook, in the county of Meath, having been murdered by some person or persons unknown; His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same ; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. Plunkett, the Resident Magistrate at Navan, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Procla- mation. DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of the late Thomas Tandy, of Johnsbrook, counly Meath, esq., stolen on the day of his murder, 24th August, 1879:— gold hunting watch, three- quarter- plate lever, with enamel dial, and engine- turned cases; " West and Son, Dublin, 4544," engraved upon the move- ment, and probably the name " West and Son'' also painted on the dial. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Deignan, native of Martins- town, Athboy, who stands charged with having, on the 30th August, 1879, in the barony of Lune, parish of Athboy, received from his employer ( Owen Murtagh), 8 head of cattle ( value for about £ 180), to sell in Manchester market, and with having embezzled the proceeds of the sale of said cattle:— Stooped shoulders, generally carried a brown frieze overcoat across his arm, and a long thin stick in his hand, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 65 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a large soft felt hat, frock coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a cattle jobber.
