Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tfa ® advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor B& ta& i toe prepaid, otherwise tho insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. On 16th instant, two forged Cheques amounting to £ 160 • were cashed at the Brighton branch of the London and County Bank ; by means of a forged order, a cheque Book containing 50 Cheques, each Cheque being numbered S— 60632, was obtained, and then boys from the street were sent into the bank to obtain cash for the Cheques. The fraud is supposed to have been committed by a man who, in February last, defrauded another, bank in- Brighton in a similar manner : he is about 30 years of age," about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higK, fair complexion, small features, small sandy whiskers, face slightly freckled; dressed in a light suit of clothes, and hard black felt hat. BUTCHER, late of 27, Victoria- street, West, 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair turning grey, bald, very prominent nose, mole on forehead, high up, heavy dark moustache, otherwise clean shaved ; dressed generally - in black frock coat, and high hat, or a blue serge yachting suit, and low felt hat with square top. C.— Bow- street, August 22. formation to Mr. Superintendent Ludlaw, County Police Office, Hurst, near Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Ashton- under- Lyne, during the night of 25th, or morning of 26th instant : a pair of lady's elastic- side kid Boots, patent toe caps, and low heels, been worn twice ; a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots, patent toe caps, high heels, with iron tips, part worn; and an old rough dirty Towel. Entrance effected, by forcing the window catch with a table knife, which was left behind. Information to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton under- Lyne, Lancashire. — Bow- street, August 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Crosland, between 11 p. m. 20th and 6 a. m. 21st instant : a threepenny Piece, and a pair of elastic- side Boots, man's size, newly soled, brass nails at the bottom. Information to Mr. Superintendent Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfleld.— Bow- st., August 25. Stolen from a dwelling house at Netherton, between 11p. m. 20th, and 5 a. m. 21st instant: a lady's gold lever Watch with flowered back, gold face, black figures, steel hands, no seconds hand, had attached a gent's gold albert Guard with plain links, rather massive ; a brownish leather Purse, with brass clasps, containing 2 Sovereigns, and one half Sovereign ; a lady's gold dress Ring with two garnets and two opals ( one of the latter out); also a red silk Hand- kerchief, with chintz coloured border. A short man was seen iu the bedroom at about 4' 45a. rn. 21st instant; dressed in dark clothes, billycock hat, and white collar. Stolen from the person at Woodstock- road Railway Station, on the evening of 19th instant: an open face gold English lever Wateli, seconds, rimmed capped, maker Savory and Sons, Cornhill, London, and a gold albert Chain, curb pattern, the property of Mr. W. Stolen from the person at Belle Vue Gardens, on 11th instant, a silver lever Watch, white dial, glass sunk below the case, sunk seconds, No. 21321, had attached a silver curb Chain with a swivel, containing a stone or yellow glass appended. £ 2 reward. will be paid for the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, aud recovery of the property. Between 12' 30 a. m. and 6 am. on 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Hustler, of Clayton, was entered and stolen therein : 1 brown Overcoat, lined with brown plaid, horn buttons, four pockets outside; 1 mixture body Coat aud Vest, light brown lining, aud horn buttons ; 1 brown cardigan Jacket, man's size; 1 lady's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with fur, two pockets outside; 1 brown silk Umbrella, silver mounted ; 1 pair lady's elastic- side Boots, nearly new ; 1 pair small Boots, buttoned up the side ; 2 sets of window Shades, striped pattern ; 3 Blankets ; 3 pairs of Sheets, twilled cotton; 6 table Spoons, silver plaM ; 12 silver Teaspoons ; 12 dessert Forks and 12 dinner Forks, silver plated ; 1 Box or lady's crochet Workbox. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. In- breaking at Dawlish on 14th instant: JOHN DAVIES, sailor, native of Conway, 34 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, sandy whiskers, beard, and moustache, old cut mark under left eye, second finger of right hand deformed, part of the first joint having been cut off by an accident; dressed in brown cloth coat and vest, dark grey cloth trousers, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots, all very much worn. He stated that he left the Royal Navy in 1875. On the night of 18th instant, a house in Brunswick- square, Penrith, Cumberland, was burglariously entered and stolen therein : 3 or 4 old silver Spoons ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, supposed marked ' J. S.'; and 6 Penny Pieces. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland,— Bow- street, August 22. Stolen from a shoemakers shop at New Passage, Gloucester- shire, between 10 p. m. on 16th, and 10 a. m. on 18th instant, by breaking a pane of glass iu the window : a pair of man's spring- side Boots, block fronts, sprigged, and tips on heels ; 3 pairs of men's watertight Boots, nailed, one pair has tips round the toes, put on with heel tacks ; a pair of man's quarter Boots, tipped and nailed ; 2 pairs of women's plain leather lace- up Boots, sprigged, and eyelet holes; a French calve Skin, and two pieces of Kip. Information to Mr. Superintendent Critchley, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire — Bow- street, August 22. About 7' 30 a. m. on 16th instant, the dwelling- house of Samuel Packer, Leaton, near Enville, Staffordshire, was entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth Jacket, trimmed with braid, pockets ou hips ; a black cloth double- breasted Vest; a pair of grey Trousers; a pair of moleskin Trousers and Vest; and a white linen Shirt. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaves chin, propor- tionate 1 uild ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, pockets on hips, dark c^ oth v * st, old greasy moleskin trousers, soft Ijillycock hat, and laie- up boots. Information to Inspector Gilbride, Tettenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 20. During the night of 18th instant, the ' Bowling Green Inn,' Lichfield, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 5s. in Silver and Copper moneys ; a white pint flat bottle full of pale Brandy. A man with a black eye, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, litt'e or no whiskers ; dressed suspected. Stolen from th vicarage, Edwinstowe, Notts, between 12 p. m. 9th, and 7 a. m. 10th instant: a silver pocket Passometer, maker ' Stewart, 66, Strand, London'; a silver shovel shape Sugar Spoon. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Irwin, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, August 20. HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on 21st instant, from a meadow at Dulwich : a valuable light chesnut Horse, 15 hands 1 inch high, chestnut mane and tail, face and hind legs white, stout build, recently blistered, passed toll at St. Albans on 22nd instant, towards Dunstable, in large spring cart, ' William Johnson, Dealer, Dunstable,' on side, driven by three men; 1st, 40 years of age, 6 feet high, stout build, the others, 30 years of age, short, all wore billycock hats, had the appearance of low horse copers. • Metropolitan Police, P Division, August 27. Stolen from an orchard at East Mailing, on 1st instant, a Kent ewe Sheep, ' R. M.' in pitch on near Shoulder, her lambs were taken from her the day previous ; the property of Mr. Robert Mercer. Also stolen, on 19th instant, at Ryarsh, a large fawn- colour mastiff Dog, two years old, answers to ' Nelson'; the property of Jeremiah Fremlin. A warrant has been issued for ARTHUR FRITH, who was seen at Boro- green, Wrotham, ' going towards London the same day with the dog in his possession : lie is 21 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight moustache and whiskers, genteel appearance, and well educated ; dressed in a straw hat, with black band, black coat, bound with braid, and light mixture cloth trousers and vest of the same material. Ho resided uiftil, lately at 5, Cambridge- villas, Turnham- green, Gunnersbury, and kept a preparatory school - f< Ji young gentlemen. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hulse, Kent Constabulary, West Mailing, who holds the warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 27. Obtained by fraud on 15th instant : a chesnut Gelding, 14 hands high, ' W' clipped on neck. By a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair, sharp nose, slight build ; dressed in dark clothes, hard felt hat. He purchased tke Horse at an auction, and paid for it with four £ 5 notes on the Wiltshire and Dorset Banking Company, Bristol, since found to be forgeries.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, Auqust 25. Supposed stolen near Kirby Moorside, during the night of 18th instant: a black horse Pony, aged, 12 hands 3 inches high, tail cut square, hog mane, in good condition, tl e property of Thomas Robinson, Kirby Moorside. Any persi n who gives such information as will lead to its recovery ai d apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, will be rewarded by the owner. Information to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Meorside.— Bow- street, August 25. _ Stolen from " a field at Yearsley Moor, near Easingwold, during the night of 17th instant : a grey mare Pony, 7 years old, about 14 hands high, thick mane and tail, the latter cut square, in good condition, is quiet to ride and drive ; value £ 35. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsly, or to Inspector Nicholson, North Riding Constabulary, Thirsk.— Bow- street, August 25. Further information respecting the Horse stolen from Godalming, Surrey, and advertised in Police Gazette of 8th instant: it is supposed to have been stolen by a fly driver returning from the Goodwood Races. £ 10 reward will be paid by the owner for the recovery of the Horse and conviction of the offender. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- street, August 25. Absconded, charged with stealing a grey Russian Pony, 13 hands high, long ma^ e and tail, iu good condition ; a light panel Cart, low frdEt, brass points, ' Thomas Bradley, 27, Luke- street, Mile End New Town' on shafts ; a set of brass mounted Harness : rflVIS, a Jew, 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion and hair, respectable appearance ; can be identified. Warrant issued.— Metropoli- tan Police, H Divisions, August 22. Stolen from Calmne, Ealing, on the night of 12th instant: a red Cow, 4 years old, white face, ' T. P.' branded on near hip, in full milk, and in good condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent White, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst. — Bow- street, Auqust 20. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Neithrop, Banbury, charged on warrant with having, on 22nd inst., embezzled 10a. | 2d. : WILLIAM PARKER, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, sanay hair, slight saddy whiskers and moustache ; dressed iu dark clothes, hard felt hat rather high crown ; of drinking habits. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Neithrop, Banbury, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 27. Absconded, charged ou a warrant with embezzling £ 25, belonging to the Guardians of Prescot Union : ARTHUR FOWLER FOWLER., relieving officer of the township of Widnes, about . _ , - -, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, in dark pilot jacket, corduroy trousers, anu tilack billy hat, is I fcro. vn hair, nearly black, parted down the middle, dark whiskers and moustache, rather thin, lost one or two upper teeth, left side, thin features, long nose, slender build, walks very erect with a short quick step, generally carrier a walking stick, and has a peculiar way of swinging it about, and knock- ing it on the ground every few yards as he passes along. Booked at Farnworth Railway Station on 22nd instant, by 1.20 p. m. train to the Central Station, Liverpool ; he was then dressed in a grey mixture cloth suit, monkey jacket without laps, two pockets outside without flap3 and one inside left breast, a low black hard felt hat, and supposed slender lace- up boots; has been in the Lancashire Constabulary stationed at Ormskirk. He will no doubt endeavour to leave the country. Information to Mr. Superintendent Brindle, Police Office, Prescot, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 27. A warrant is issued for the apprehension of JOHN SANDERS, a collector from butchers's shops of sheep's runners, tripes, heels, & c., charged with stealing on 22nd inst. whilst bailee, a Horse, the property of Mr. Thos. Stratford, butcher, of Basingstoke : he is about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, little dark whiskers and moustache, and dark hair cut very short; dressed in dark bowler hat, old black cloth coat, old dark trousers with patches of dark tweed on the seats, and side- spring boots. Accompanied by a young woman about 18 years of age, near her confinement, fair complexion, and Bhort. The Horse is about 15 hands high, light brown, nearly thorough bred, about 7 years old, white face, white on hind fetlock, chip knees and off fetlock. Sanders is supposed to be a native of London, and to be known at Winchester, Bishops Stortford, Essex, & c. Information to Head Constable Hibberd, Borough Police, Basingstoke, Hants.— Bow- street, August 27, Stolen from the house of John Barratt, at Odd Rode, Cheshire, on 22nd instant: a pair of woollen cord trousers, men's size ; a light brown Dress, trimmed with large bright buttons; a light drab Dress, with running flower; a black silk Jacket; a black and grey striped woollen Shawl, far worn ; a Geneva Watch, steel Chain attached ; and an old fashioned verge Watch. By PETER BARRATT, a convict on ticket of leave, liberated from Parkhurst Convict Prison on 14th June last, 37 years of age, 5 feet 91 inches high ( without shoes), fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, oval face, proportionate build, scar on right arm and nose, scar bend of left arm; dressed when last seen in a blue pilot jacket, vest, and trousers, and black cloth cap ; was traced to Macclesfield. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hindley, County Constabulary, Middlewicb, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street,' August 27. Description of DAVID LITHGOW, a journeyman watch maker, who has absconded from " Worcester, charged on warrant with stealing a lady's gold geneva Watch, entrusted to him to to repair : he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, full [ face, brown hair, grey eyes, and wears a sandy beard ; usually dressed in black coat and vest, blue trousers, and billy cock hat. Information to Sergeant Sommers, City Police, Worcester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 27, Description of JOHN HOLLIS, charged on warrant with embezzling Money belonging to his master, Charles Bellamy, baker, at Brighton : 17 years of age, very thin pale face, dark hair, weakly looking; dressed in light trousers, dark tweed coat, bad shoes. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 25. Description of JOSEPH TEDEY, charged on warrant with embezzling Money belonging to his master, John Harding, baker, at Brighton : 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, small light moustache, small light hair on tip of chin, rather red face, stoutly made. Description of WILLIAM JEFFERY, cashier and clerk, charged with embezzlement: 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ( slight) dark brown; dressed, black ribbed frock coat, grey tweed vest and trousers, hard felt hat, formerly clerk to the Hearts of Oak Friendly Society. Stolen from a dwelliDg- house in Bridge- street, Maiden head, on the morning of 22nd instant : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, and long gold Chain, with one long link to every three or four inches of short links, maker Sach. By a man, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, blue or grey eyes, very large nose, oval face, brown hair, little © r no whiskers, and slight brown moustache ; dressed in dark coat, supposed alpaca or ribbed cloth, dark coloured trousers and vest, black hard felt liat. Left behind him an old coarse blue cloth coat, a dark checked cloth vest, spotted with white paint, and a brown coloured cloth trousers, with check stripe somewhat darker. Also 5 pawntickets, as follows, viz., pawned with Thomas Smith, 47 and 49, Pitfield- street, Hoxtou, 24tli July, 1879, by Henry Franks, 7, Chart- street, for 9d., Handkerchief, ticket No. 2678; at same place, and in same name and address, on 25th July, 1879, for 8s., a Coat, No. 1237; with James Jay, 366, Essex- road, Islington, on 31st July, 1879, Timepeiee ( no key), for 3s., in the name of John Franks, 10, Baites- road, No. 2440 ; with Alfred Stone, 14 and 15, Salusbury- terraee, Kilburn, 11th August, 1879, for 2s., No. 753, article and address of pawnee, not eligibly written, but believed to be by John Johnson; with John Brown, 140, Blackstock road, Finsbury- park, 9th August, 1879, for 12s., a silver Geneva Watch, No. 31354, by Janes Shaw, 30, Gillespie- road, No. 53; Information to Head Constable Austin, Maidenhead, Berkshire.— Bow- street, August 25. Absconded, charged on warrant with stealing a post Letter: EDWARD BARTRAM BRAMALL, a post office letter carrier, about 29 years of age, about 5 feet high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair inclined to be sandy, moustache and slight whiskers, walks rather wide; dressed in black matalasse shooting coat, dark trousers, elastic- side boots, and round flat fashionable felt hat. He was formerly employed as a clerk in a surveyors office, and may now seek such employment. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 25. Stolen on 12th instant, from the Depot Barracks, Houns- low, Middlesex, a brass Cornet, 14th Royal South Middesex Militia,' engraved thereon : by JAMES RYAN, 22 years of age, 5 feet C inches high, complexion, hair, eyes, and whiskers ( shaved under chin) dark; dressed, dark tweed coat, light tweed trousers and vest, black hard felt hat, a bandsman, has served in the Royal Marines, [ Portsmouth Division, and lst Middlesex Militia. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, August 25. Stolen from the bed- room of a public- house at Hertford, on 22nd instant, a Watch ( recovered) : by a young man who lodged there, named THOMAS GEORGE SIMMONS, alias JOCKEY, adabourer, belonging to Hitckin, who is travelling the country, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair; dressed in a dark coat, dark plaid trousers, hard felt hat, and low shoes; he beats the side drum when out with the militia. A warrant is issued for his apprcliension. He will be found at low public houses or lodging- houses. Information to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.— Bow- street, August 25. Further information respecting the man who stole the American Clock from the dwelling- house at Shenstone, near Lichfield, and advei;£ jsed in'the Police Gazette of 30th June last: his name is GEORGE BOWLER, of Fazeley, Stafford- shire, a collier.
