No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can bo inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 1879. ENGLISH POLICE. WIGAN BOROUGH POLICE. FORGERY, £ 20 REWARD. DESCRIPTION of a man who is wanted here on a charge of forging a cheque on the Manchester and County Bank, in this borough, on the 6th instant: — He is about 85 years of age, and about 5 ft 6 in. high, dark brown hair, very small, dark sandy whiskers, chin shaved, round features, pale complexion, stout build, dressed in dark cloth coat, black billycock hat, and speaks with a South country accent. The means employed in perpetrating the above forgery were as follows:— The forger called on a tradesman about 8 p. m., 3lst ult., and stated that he wanted to remit money to a gentleman, and was too late flor a post office order. He asked the tradesman for a cheque for £ 2 lOi. The tradesman gave him one for £ 2 6s. 6d. On the following morning the same man returned the cheque to the tradesman, stating he had been able to do without it; he having in the meantime forged the signature which was on the cheque to a cheque of £ 225, by which he obtained £ 100 in gold and also the following Bank of England notes:— London, 2nd October, 18T8, 68/ c, 78832, £ 100; Manchester, 26th January, 1878, 51/ b, 12548, £ 5 ; Hull,' 1st September, 1876, 7/ 87, 89216, £ 5 ; London, 12th November. 1878, 12/ d, 37944, £ 5 5 Liverpool, 26th March, > 878, 40/ b, 54597, £ 5; Newcastle- on- Tyne, 25th July, 1878, 54/ b, 26210, £ 5. The above reward will be paid for the apprehension aod conviction of the forger and recovery of the money or proportion thereof. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of Five o'clock, on the morning of the 22nd ultimo, the body of James Neagle, was found on the public road, in the townland of Kineilty, in the county of Clare, murdered by some person or persons at present unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Thomas Butler, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Kilkee, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the night of 20th June, 1879, an old man named Thomas Devonport, who resided in the townland of Ballaghaline, in the parish of Killilagh, and county of Clare, was strangled in his bed by some person or persons unknown. His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such infor- mation as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by T. Butler, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Kilkee, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. The cow stolen from the pound of Ennistymon, and described in the Hue- and- Cry of Uth July, last, has been found in possession of a farmer named Matthew Howard, who, with his son James, has been arrested, and both admitted to bail. DESCRIPTION of John Barrett, native of Coona ( Midleton), who stands charged, on suspicion, with having, on the 2nd day of August, 1879, in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Dunbollogue, wilfully set fire to his dwelling- house:— Stoops when walking, has a tremulous motion in right hand, shaves all his face, wild dark eyes, ordinary nose, dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 80 years of age, but appears to be much younger, gray hair; wore a tall hat, dark frieze coat, black trowsers, gray vest. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.30 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, the 2nd day of April, 1878 William Sydney, Earl of Leitrim, John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the persons who committed the same, or any of them. And His Grace is also pleased to offer a FREE PARDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said murder, other than the persons who actually com- mitted the same, in case of his giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the murder aforesaid. DESCRIPTION of Charles Elliott, native of Drum- errin, who stands charged with having, on tho morning of the 14th July, instant, in the barony of Boylagh, parish of Inniskeel, stolen nine sheep, viz.— four ewes, three weihers, one ram, aod one lamb, the property of Patrick Dunleavy:— Wants two joints cf third finger of fight hand $ lias a habit of twitching his mouth to right side when spfakin/; brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, brown hair, turning gray, wears all his beard ; wore a soft black hat, dark frieze coat, dark trowsers, frieze vest Speaks with a coarse accent peculiar to returned Irish Americans, which he is one of; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of James Mulhern ( mother's surname Keown), native of Drumoneillar, who stands charged with having, on the 31st July, 1879, at Roscon, in the barony of Magheraboy, parish of Innishonacsaint, seriously assaulted Edward Reilly, so as to endanger his life :— Bald on top of head, left eye tender, blue circle tattooed on back of right hand, letters J. M. inside circle, blueeyes. regularnose, sandy complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, sandy hair j wore a cap with peak, dark coat, trowsers, and vest, generally wears strong laced boots ; is a farmer and water bailiff; has been in America, Glasgow, and Liverpool; is a good boat man— may seek employment at a seaport. DESCRIPTION of John Madden, native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the 31st July, 1879, at Ballinlough, in the barony of Ratoath, parish of Dunshaughlin, stolen from the Dunshaugh- lin Union Workhouse, a chimney- c'eaniug mach ne. value for 10s, the property of the Guardians of said Union ;— teeth broken and irregular in front of mouth, has one tooih larger than the others in his up- per jaw, large month, weak knees which bend forward when walking, dark eyes, regular nose, sa'low com- plexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a black jerry hat, light tweed coat, light tweed trowsera with dark stripe down outside seam, light tweed vest; is a chimney sweep. The machine is nearly new, the handle is - 60 feet loDg, divided into 20 lengths of 3 feet each, with brass screws and brass fittings, and a small wheel on the head. Dunshaughlin, August 2, 1879. Railway, a sum of money, he being a station master in their employment:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about, iH years of age, black hair, turning gray; wore all his beard, which is turning gray; wore a black coat, tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5th August, 1879, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— Thomas Murphy, 1412, about 19 or 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches or 5 feet 7 inches high, st ut make, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, loiig and regular nose, ordinary mouth, long visage ; small inaik of cut on forehead; formerly belonged to JO, Upper Gloucester place, Dublin, where his parents reside. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, con- sists of:— Corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, cloth cap, strong boots. Supposed to have an old jerry hat and other old clothes with the above. Has a good knowledge of the stone- cutting trade.
