Description of THOMAS HEATON, charged at Bolton, under a warrant for having, on 5th. ultimo, forged a name to a post office order for 14s., which he afterwards uttered : . Cl years of ag » , 5 feet inches high, light wavy hair, blue eyas, rather large, pale complexion, mole on left cheek, scar over left e^ e, aud three vaccination marks on left shoulder ; dressed in'black narrow ribbed worsted coat ( pockets behind), vest, and trousers, hard black billycock hat, fancy side- spring ooots ; a law stationer's clerk, and has a respectable appear- ance. Has been twice previously convicted of felony and fraud. He has resided iu Manchester, Oldham, Wigan, Liverpool, Birkenhead, aud Tyldesley. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Aug. 5. Charged with Uttering at Maidstone, on 26th ultimo, a jForged Post Office Order for £ 4' 4s, iu payment of 18s. for a ^ airof boots, purchased at the shop of Mr. Benliff, High- street, Maidstone : ga man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ins. high, brown or sandy whiskers and moustache, is shaved clean on chin, of good address; dressed in dark grey or brown suit, was carrying a grey overcoat, and Gladstone bag. Information to the Head Constable, Police Office, Maidstone.— Bow August 1. JOBBERY AMD LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in a hayfield near Whitby, • between 6 and 7' 30 p. m. on lst instant, supposed by tramps : a silver lever Watch, with silver dial and gold figures, ' J. L.' engraved on outer case, ' J. M. W.' on inside case, No. 7838 ; a gold Albert, curb pattern, ' 9 C.' stamped on one link, nearest swivel ; a spade ace Guinea, date 1790, attached; an old yellow and white Handkerchief ; and a few Coppers. Information to Inspector Moody, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- lireet, August 5. Stolen from the person in Middlesborough on 30th ultimo : a gold Lever Watch, with white dial, No. 21870, maker ' M. G. Stolen from the person on the Cricket Ground, Old Traf- ford, about 6.15 p. m. on 24th instant: a gold lever Watch, white dial, gold hands and seconds finger, maker's name— 1 Gardner, Manchester'; has engraved on the inside of outer case, ' Presented to John Hossell by his son, Thomas Hossell, on the occasion of his Golden Wedding, June 5th, 1877.' Information to Inspector McCrea, Tamwortb, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 5. Between midnight on 30th. and 6 a. m. on 31st ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. James B. Dunkerley, at Clayton, was entered and stolen therefrom : a black cloth corded dress Coat, lined with black alpaca, black cloth covered buttons, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, an oil mark on left shoulder, and far worn; a pair of elastic- side boots, imitation buttoned, man's size, and. far worn ; aud a pair of side spring Boots, block fronts, right boot been newly stitched on the right side, man's size, and far worn. Supposed by a tramp who may be wearing the Coat and a pair of the Boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ludlam, County Police Office, Hurst, near Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- street, AUgust 5. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the cottage of Joseph Baldwin, at Leigh, near Malvern, between 9 a. m. and 5' 30 p. m on 29th ultimo : a Half Sovereign ; two Shillings ; a pair of black cloth Trousers ; a black cloth Yest ; two white Shirts ; a print Dress ; a dark linsey Dress ; a dark linsey Dress, with a row of black braid round the bottom ; a white Petticoat; a white Table Cloth; a pair of cotton Sheets; a Night- dress ; a woman's black cloth Jacket; two pairs of women's Drawers ; and a quantity of Bread and Cheese. Supposed by two tramps, one of whom is wearing a grey suit, and black billycock ; the dther a black coat, with dirty cord trousers, and black bowler hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Turner, Upton- on- Severn, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, August 5. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, from Mr. Alfred Wells, out- door license beer- house, Witherenden, Burwash, on 27th ultimo : a small Box, containing £ 8 in Gold, also £• 2 7s. in Gold and Silver from a drawer. Supposed by two men who were seen near the place : one goes by the name of TIM, between 40 and 50 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion and hair, turning grey, stout figure, and a tramp ; dressed in old dark clothes, and billycock hat; the other is about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion and hair, turning grey, slight figure, and a tramp ; dressed in old grey clothes and cap with peak, and carried a guano bag. Information to Mr. Superintendent Jenner, Battle, or to Acting Sergeant Girton, Burwash, East Sussex.— Bow- st., August 1. Stolen by means of housebreaking from James Rigby, Church Lawton, between 11 p. m. on 27th and 5 20 a m. on 28th ultimo : 1 brown cloth Jacket, double breasted, with velvet collar, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, black lining, and black bone buttons, man's size, 1 black cloth waistcoat, two pockets outside, and each toe a little, man's size, 1 pair of lace up boots, been soled and heeled, and toe caps on, size 5. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hindley, County Police, Middlewich, or to Sergeant Jones, Police Station, Scholar Green, Odd Bode, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 1. Stolen by means of shopbreaking, during the night of 19tli ultimo, from a pawnshop : about 8 silver watch Chains, some curb and some link pattern ; 3 silver albert Chains, one curb, one long link, and the other a thin twisted pattern ; and a gent's gold Ring, the ring, the long linked albert, and three of the chains have since been recovered. By JOSEPH KILBY, or GASKELL, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 ' incheshigh, pale complexion, blue eyes, proportionate make, light whiskers and moustache which he may shave of, large scar right of mouth, two poekmarks on right temple, and one near left eye ; dressed in an old brown or grey shooting coat, light cord trousers, old lace- up boots, black cloth cap with peak and ear- laps. He is a labourer, but formerly worked in a cotton mill. Has been four times previously convicted of felony. Infor- mation to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 30. charged with stealing a Mare at Upminster, Essex : JOHN WILLIAMS, 39 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, hazel eyes, long thin whiskers and moustache, slight build ; dressed in old frock coat and vest, old grey tweed trousers, old side- spring boots, and low hard fait hat. States he was born at. Baudou, Cork, in 1840, served ten years and some days in the 50th Regiment of Foot, was discharged in 1874 and has since worked as a tailor in several parts of the country. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dobson, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, August 5. Description of HENRY LAMBERT, charged on warrant with stealing a chestnut cart Mate, ( since recovered) at the Shipston Horse Fair, on 23rd June last: he is. about, 3Q, years. of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fiiir complexion, rather dark mous- tache, no whiskers, dark eyes, and of slender build; he was dressed in dark clothing. Information to Mr. Superintendent Jervis, Shipston- on- Stour, Worcestershire.— Bow- st., August 1. Stolen during the night of 25th instant, . from a. field at Stockland, Devon : a dark bay horse Colt, 2 years old, from 14 to 15 hands high, tail rather short, and the hair various lengths, a little white under the fetlock of each hind foot, in fair condition. It was exhibited, for sale the day previous at Honiton Fair, and a party of low horse dealers, supposed from Somerset, wanted to buy it. They are suspected of stealing it. Charged on warrant, at Southport, on 16th ultimo, with stealing a gold lever Watch, value £ 32 ( recovered): EMIL MEYBEM, a German watchmaker, speaks broken English, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, sallow complexion, remarkable grey eyes, thick lips, dark curly h. >, .^ iskers, and moustache, shaves c: : o, generally wears a ,„. ii . -. oii, and dark billyeock £. 5.;.^ vierally Stolen from two dwelling- houses in Grimsby, by means of housebreaking, on 22nd instant : seven £ 5 Notes, Kingston- upon- Hull Bank, Nos. 05242, 06433, 06491, 02514, 01032, 01287, 01087 ; a lady's gold diamond Ring, four diamonds and three stones ; a lady's gold Wedding Ring; a lady's gold Regard Ring, with six stones ( minus one); a lady's old- fashioned gold King, diamond- shape back, a pearl in centre and four stones ( one in each corner) ; 2 pairs gold Earrings, one with bright stones, the other buckle pattern ; 2 gold Pen- dants, one with male likeness in it,- the other female's ditto ; a cameo Brooch, set in g61d ; six silver Tea Spoons and a pair of ditto Sugar Bows, engraved ' S. P.'; a ditto Sugar Sifter; six small electro- plated Forks, engraved ' PL'; three electro plated Dessert Spoons ; a ditto Butter Knife, ivory handle ; and a ditto Lemon Knife. Information to Head Constable Kershaw, Southport, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 5. Description of J. CROSBY, lately residing at Kendal, charged as a bailee with stealing a silver lever Watch, from Kentmere, near Kendal, on 22nd ultimo : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, full grey eyes, dark brown hair, bald on front part of head, dark bushy whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, hangs his head to one side, stoutish build, thick neck, short quick walker, native of London ; dressed in blue pilot cloth overcoat, rather short, velvet collar, black cloth coat beneath, fancy rep cloth trousers, and hard felt Muller hat, is of respectable appear- ance, and carries a black satchel and walking stick. He left Oxenholme Junction by the 10' 15 a. m, train, on 21st ultimo, and stated he was going into Lancashire. , His mode of proceedure is to go to a small town or village, and hangs up a fancy card in the public house, bearing the inscription ' J. Crosby, practical watch and clock maker, jeweller, & c. & c.' and giving an address in some adjacent town, by these means he gets watches, & c. to clean or repair, from farmers and others and pawns them. Information to Mr. Superintendent Shields, Kendal, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or at the County Chief Constable's- Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, August 5. Absconded on 29th instant, stealing £ 7 Is. : a man, cab washer, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, and slight whiskers ; dressed in dark trousers, dirty white shirt, and old boots ; left coat and hat behind.— Metro- politan Police, B Division, August 5. 1 Stolen from a field at Aldridge, on lst instant : a dark tweed Jacket much worn, with pockets on sides : by a tramp, from 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, tuft of hair on ehin ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, moleskin trousers, soft felt hat, and a red handkerchief round his neck. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, or Sergeant Arnold, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, August 5. Descrintion of a man named FLETCHER, a saw sharpener, charged on warrant with stealing on 31st ultimo, from St. Alban's : a half rip Saw; a hand Saw; and a tenant Saw, the property of James Argent, machinist: he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pockmarked, and carries with him a cramp saw sharpener, which has the name of ' Fletcher' on a round brass plate, information to the Head Constable, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- strek, August 5. burglary AND HOUSE; BREAKING. The dwelling- house of Mr. William Scott, farmer, Hopwas, was broken and entered by the cellar window be- HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Ash- lane, Whitchurch, during the night of lst instant : a small light coloured mare Donkey, 11 years old, with a white, nose, the property of Thomas Ward. Supposed by a man, 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown whiskers ; dressed in cord trousers, black billycock hat, and a pink coloured handkerchief round his neck. Travels the country with 2 donkeys selling besoms. Information to Mr. Superintendent Haines, or to Sergeant Thomas, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, August 5. Remanded to Chelmsford Prison until 7th Stolen from a field in the parish of Penny Stratford betw een 8 and 9 a. m. on 2nd instant : a brown twilled fustian Jacket, double stitched round the shoulders arid half way down the arms, pocket at each side, two buttons up. the front, the upper one sewn on with black thread. Supposed by a man, who was seen pass on his way to London, about the time of the robbery, and' supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket, and he carries a slop over his shoulders ; dressed in fustian trousers, dark double- breasted waistcoat, and billycock hat, has a black eye. Hi was traced to Dunstable. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hedley, Police Office, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, August 5. Absconded from Liverpool- street Station, on 1st instant, a clerk named PETER DANIEL DUNNE-, taking with him £ 105 16s., the property of the Great Eastern Railway Company : he is a'> out 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion instant, and hair, full moustache, fair or yellowish colour, slight • whiskers, features of German type, good looking sad expressive, wears glasses, proportionate make, speaks in a clear distinct manner, and rather authoritive, accent inclined to Scotch or North of Ireland; supposed to have been dressed in a dark mixture overcoat, a light- coloured coat underneath, dark tweed trousers, and silk hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hedington, Great Eastern Railway Company, Liverpool- street, E.— Bow- strat, August 5. Stolen on 3rd instant, from a lodging- house in Bolton : a red and black large plaid Shawl, a peach and white neck Shawl, and a pair of girl's patent leather low Slippers, laced in front, all in good condition : by a man, who said he was a hawker of hardware, and belonged to Salford, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender make, fresh com- plexion, long thin face, and sandy tuft on chin; dressed in old faded tweed cloth coat, old brown tweed trousers, hard black billycock hat, and clogs. Information to Chief Con- stable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 5. The girl charged with felony at Rawtenstall, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 28th ultimo, has been apfrahended and the property recovered.— Bow- st., August 5. Absconded stealing £ 8 10. : a man, printer, 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, stout built, fair complexion, hair, moustache, and tuft on chin dark brown, lost first joint second finger right hand; dressed, brown overcoat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, August 1. Absconded charged with embezzlement: a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, full face, thick beard, ( cut short), moustache, short sighted, wears spectacles ; dressed black frock coat, dark vest and trousers, high^ black hat, gentlemanly appearance.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, August 1. Stolen on the night of 25th ultimo, from a stable at the Agricultural Hall Hotel, Penrith : one nearly new dark tweed double breasted frock Coat, four buttons down the front, dark lining, and two outside pockets on each side ; one single breasted light tweed Waistcoat, two outside pockets in right side, on outside pocket in left side, and a new piece of lining patched in each side; one double breasted brown cloth Overcoat, brown velvet collar, black lining, two outside pockets in right side, one outside pocket in left side, one button off right side, pocket in skirt torn in the inside, about half worn ; one pair of water tight lace Boots, several rows of nails round the soles, toe cap3 and heel plates. Supposed by a tramp, groom, who had been hanging about the stables, and who disappeared on the morning of 26th instant, leaving a pair of old boots behind him, he is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slender figure, black hair, small thin black whiskers, no moustsche, face and chin shaved, and had_ either a sore or sprained wrist, which was bound with a piece of white cloth ; dressed in a dark short lapped jacket, yellow woollen cor « l trousers, dark waistcoat, and supposed the stolen boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constables Office, Carlisle.— Bow street, August 1. Absconded on 29th ultimo, stealing a black japanned tin Cash- box, containing £ 14 in Gold and Silver : a man ( clerk), 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, small moustache ; dressed in grey mixture suit, black felt hat. Larceny servant.— Metropolian Police, C Division, August 1. Stolen on 24th ultimo : a silver open- face Watch, two gilt rings round edge ; a sheath Knife, ivory handle, in amber leather sheath, ornamented with steel; two pairs of men's side- spring Boots, worn, one with grey elastic ; a pair of grey striped tweed Trousers ; a green silk net Purse ; and 27s. Silver. By a man ( ship's steward), native of Sweden, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, very dirty teeth; dressed ( supposed) stolen trousers, dark coat and vest, black felt hat, side- spring boots. Larceny servant.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, August 1. Stolen from a house in Sale, Cheshire, on 25th ultimo : a gold Brooch, set with hair in the shape of a butterfly. By a man, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, long features, pale face, large grey eyes, clean shaved; dressed in dark grey mixture coat, dirty fustian trousers, hard black billycock hat. He carried a bag with a hammer and other tools in it, and obtained permission into the house by representing that he had been sent to repair a bell in the house. Absconded on 25th instant, charged with stealing £ 3 17s. lid.: a man 19 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, and slight moustache ; dressed in dark tweed vest ( with sleeves) and trousers, brown handkerchief round neck, and hard felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Divi- sion, July 30. Stolen from No. 1, Mountain View, Llandudno, between 9th and 12th instant: a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots, the property of Mrs. Lilley. Supposed by a woman who was lodging in the house, and left at 5 p. m. on 12th instant: she is about 34 years of age, 5 feet high, fair face, dark hair ; dressed in black ; has two children with her, lives with a painter, 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, grey hair, hazel eyes, sallow complexion; she is a native of Llansantffraid, Glan Conway. Information to Mr. Superintendent Evans, Conway, or to Acting Inspector Hughes, Llandudno, Car- narvon.— Bow- street, July 30. Charged on warrant with embezzlement: JAS. JOHN- STONE PICKARD, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, slight moustache, brown hair, medium build ; is believed to be wearing a brown mixture jacket, and a black billy cock hat, he is by trade a wholesale clothiers traveller, is believed to havs been In Liverpool on the 26th, and then left for Chester. Information to the Chief Constable of Leeds. — Bow- street, July 30. Absconded on 26th instant, charged with stealing £ 3 : a man ( waiter) 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair com- plexion and hair; dressed in shabby dark suit, black necktie, and no hat; is a Belgian. May be in custody for drunken- ness.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, July 30. Wanted for stealing a Coat on 22nd instant ( recovered) : a woman, about 45 years of age, very tall and slender, pale looking, light sandy hair turning grey; dressed in a dark peach dress, with kilting on the bottom. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen from the tap room of the ' Royal Oak' public- house, Church Eaton, between 6 p. m. 24th, and 11 a. m. on 26th instant: a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, size No. 8, hand sewn, block fronts, and a strap up the back, seam nearly new, value lis. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, no beard or moustache, a sear or burn mark on left side of neck ; dressed in dark suit of clothes, soft black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Forebridge, Stafford, or to Sergeant Dix, Police Station, Church Eaton, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., July 30. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. Joseph Smith, on 22nd instant; a plain gold Lscket; a child's Cashbox, con- taining about £ 7 ; and a green morocco Purse, containing a Half- sovereign and some Silver. Information to Head Con- stable Waldram, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen at Rhyl, about 11- 30 a. m. on 27th instant, from a cash box : £ 21 in Gold.
