Stolen from the person on 17th instant, at Burgley Park Agricultural Show : a double- cased engine- turned gold lever Watch, with balance hands, and sunk seconds, maker S. T. Briggs, Spalding, No. 102640. £ 5 reward will be given for the recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. Stolen from the person at Bradford, on 14th instant: three £ 10 Bank of England Notes, dated Manchester, 23rd ~ oiuary, 1878, Nos. 52 j B 31605, 52 | B 53347, 52 | B 57780, one ditto, dated Manchester, 20th January, 1877, No. 5 | B 63321 ; two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, one dated Manchester, 28th January, 1878, No. 28726 or 7, the other stamped ' Moss Side Post Office a Cheque for £ 2, No. Wd. 52824, drawn by James Nuttall, upon the Manchester and Salford Bank, Hulme Branch, endorsed John Hibbert; about £ 12 in Gold, and 10s. in Silver; one small square reddish leather Purse, with brass rim, and one dark brown leather satchell Purse, with steel rim; payment of the Notes and Cheques stopped. £ 5 reward will be paid for the recovery of the property,| and apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen from the person whilst at Athletic Sports, Bingley, between 6.30 and 7.30 p. m., on 12th instant : a gold Geneva lever Watch, white dial, black figures, sunk seconds, end of minute hand broken off, engine- turned case, ' T. H. Russell, Geneva,' on dial, inner case fits badly, ring been broken and pieced, in wear about 5 y ears, and had attached a gold Albert, prison- link pattern, with old- fashioned link at end and hook to fasten to vest, also a Seal, reversible stone, red on one side, bloodstone on the other, and ' 15 C.' on each link. Escaped from custody, on 5th instant, charged with stealing a Watch from the person : JOHN HALL, 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, mole on each arm, dark com- plexion, hair and moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in grey tweed coat and vest, snuff- coloured trousers, side- spring boots, and black felt hat — Metropolitan Police, X Division, July 16. Stolen on the night of 12th instant, from the person, in Preston : a silver dead beat Watch, No. 6293, jewelled in 7 actions, gold balance, and sunk seconds, maker Thomas Yates, Preston Also stolen on the night of 12th instant, from the person in Preston : a silver lever Watch, No. 35447, maker Thomas Bennett, Preston. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, from Mr. William Cook Hinde, of Acklam, on 19th instant: a black cloth Coat, a grey cloth tweed Jacket and Vest, and mixture plaid cloth Coat, a striped cloth Vest and Trousers ( nearly new), a pair of tight laced Boots, brass eyelet holes. Supposed by tramps, one about 5 feet 2 inches high, dark clothes, patched on the knees, black billycock hat, and clogs ; another 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sailor cap, button on each side, dark cloth clothes, and old boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Blanchard, East Riding Constabulary, Norton, Malton.— Bow- street, July 23. Between 8 p. m. on 18th and 5.45 a. m. on 19th instant, the tailor's shop of Mr. Simon Goldstone, 34, Victoria- street, Blackburn, was broken into and stolen therefrom ; about £ 2 in Money, consisting of Half- Sovereign, Half- Crown, Shillings, Sixpences, Fourpenny Pieces, and Threepenny Pieces ; there was a Franc Piece, a Jersey Penny, a very large old Penny, and some Farthings ; some of the silver Coins had holes in them ; a Bundle of Papers, consisting ( in part) of— 5 ' Black- burn Rink' Shares, Nos. 306 to 310 inclusive ; 10 ' Blackburn Bank,' Shares, Nos. 1838 to 1847 inclusive ; 2 Deposit Papers for gas metres ; 2 Insurance Policy Papers, one for ' Fire,' the other for ' Glass'; 2 Masonic Certificates, one for ' Royal Arch,' and one ' Craft,' the above papers are all in Mr. Gold stone's name ; a Lease of the Premises from ' John Smith to Simon Goldstone'; a Receipt for £ 600 paid to Mr. Whalley ; and other Papers, of no value to any person except the owner. Stolen on 18th instant, from a cottage at Hambleden, by means of housebreaking : a dark cloth Overcoat, plaid lining, pockets on sides; a snuff- coloured Undercoat; a black cloth Waistcoat; a pair of dark tweed Trousers; a black billy Hat; a black silk Neckerchief; and a light- coloured pocket Handkerchief, red border. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, dark hair and whiskers dressed in a pair of blue trousers ( supposed police pattern), brown woollen shirt, light coloured cap with peak, and light boots with buttons on, may be wearing one of the stolen coats as he left his own coat behind. Information to Mr. Superintendent Sargent, County Police Station, High Wycombe, or to Inspector Breene, Great Marlow, Bucks.— Bow- street, July 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Northfleet, Kent, on 15tli instant: a black cloth Vest; a pair of rough dark cloth Trousers; three Chemises; three pairs of Drawers ; three Night Dresses ; a chamber Towel; a flannel Petticoat ; a white Table Cloth; and several articles of Baby Linen. Information to Mr. Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Con- stabulary, Chatham.— Bow street, July 18. Between 6 a. m. and 6 p. m. on 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Kendrew, of Ainderby, near Thirsk, was entered and a number of drawers and boxes forced open and ransacked, a thin- edged instrument about t of an inch broad having been used. Supposed by two men, one from 22 to 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 8 inches high, dark clothes, supposed cap, and very smart Lancashire clogs ; the other from 20 to 22 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, blue jacket, white moleskin trousers, quite clean, supposed cap, and very smart Lancashire clogs. Both men are swarthy looking, and have the appearance of factory hands. Salop, or to Sergeant Higgins, Dawley, Salop.-- B( tu- street, July 23. Stolen from the Home Park, Windsor, since 27th ultimo : 9 Sheep, had been recently sheared, not marked. Stolen from Longton, on the night of 16th instant: a thorough bred chestnut Pony, 5 years old, 13 hands high, off hind foot white, and white stripe down the face, near hock slightly enlarged, the property of Mr. Plant, cab proprietor, Lougton. Information to Mr. Superintendent McWilliams, Police Station, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., July 21. Stolen on 8th instant, at Brooksby : two shorthorn Lincolnshire Bullocks, one very dark red, with down horns, the other of a lighter color, both marked with a clio on the near hip. Information to Mr. Superintendent Goodman, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, July 18. STEALING. a white mare Cob BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary on 18th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. William Gadsden, Dagnall, near Hemel Hempstead : six silver tea Spoons, marked ' G.'; two ditto dessert Spoons, marked « B. G,'; four plated table Spoons ; HORSE AND CATTLE Obtained on 5th instant, by fraud : 13 hands high, and dark green Phaeton, picked out same, bent shafts, blue cloth Cushions, skin Rug, silver plated Harness, whalebone topped Whip. By a man, 21 years of age, fair complexion, slight light whiskers ; dressed in light clothes, and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, July 23. Found at White Walsham, on 8fch instant, and supposed stolen : five red and white Heifers, in good condition. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead.— Bow- street, July 23. The Pony, Cart, and Harness stolen at Swallowfield, Berks, on 18th instant, and advertised in Police Gazette of 21st instant, has been found, and WILLIAM HAWKES apprehended. Information to Inspector Pocock, Reading, Berks.— Bow street, July 23. The Horse reported in Police Gazette of 21st instant, as stolen from Primrose Hill, has been recovered. GEORGE OVINGTON RAINE, is apprehended on the charge : he is 5 feet 6J inches high, dark complexion, grey eyes, heavy eye- brows, dark brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, large scar on left cheek, scar across forehead, piece out of under lip, on left side, proportionately made, by trade a fitter, and a native of Crook, Durham. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Thompson, Police Office, Barnard Castle, Durham, — Bow- street, July 23. Absconded from Dawley, charged with having obtained a Horse and Cart by false pretences : the Horse is dark brown, aged, in good condition, 15 hands high, long tail, small star on forehead, shoes much worn, strong spring cart, painted dark i brown, the cratch broken behind and fastened with a strap, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of HARRY ROBINSON, alias HARRY FRAZER, charged on a warrant with stealing two large Boxes, containing a feather Bed, Bedding, and Blankets, various articles of men's and women's Clothing, a Bath, and a quantity of Crockery- ware, at Lawford, on 12th March last: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, fair com plexion, blue eyes, has a small brown moustache, and no whiskers, hair cut short, well made, and walks erect; he is very respectably dressed, usually in a suit of greyish cloth, with a small hard felt hat, he is a tailor by trade, and usually works in military tailor's shops, he is known in garrison towns by the name of FLASH HARRY; he is supposed to be living with a married woman who eloped with him at the time : the woman' is from 26 to 30 years of age, medium height, rather dark complexion, and pale, an Irish woman by birth ; some of the property has been traced to London, and another part to Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire, where the parties are supposed to be living. Information to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, Mistley.— Bow- street, July 23. Description of JOHN ARMSTRONG, a cashier and clerk, charged on warrant with stealing a large sum of Money from his employers, the Singer Manufacturing Company, on 16th instant: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair and moustache, no whiskers, large nose, proportionate build ; dressed in dark grey overcoat, shooting coat and vest of same material, and black cloth trousers, and hard black felt hat. Was at York Station on the night of 16th instant. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, Northumberland.— Bow- street, July 23. GEORGE E. ROSE, advertised in the Police Gazette of 6th instant, charged with embezzlement at Norton, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next Quarter Sessions to be held at Beverley in October next. Information to Mr. Superintendent Blanchard, East Riding Constabulary. Norton, Malton.— Bow- street, July 23. Stolen on 19th instant, from a cottage near the Pentre : Fowl, the property of David Davies. By a tramp, about 35 years years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light or sandy hair, small beard ; dressed in old dark coat, moleskin trousers, woven cap, and red scarf. He was traced through Llangynog and Bala to Corwen, Merionethshire. Informatisn to Police Constable Williams, Llanfyllin, or to Mr. Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, July 23. Description of a man who calls himself G. or J. CROSBY, a clock and watch cleaner, and musical instrument repairer) charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, full grey eyes, dark brown hair, bald on the front part of head, dark bushy whiskers, shaved on chin, rather hangs his head to one side, heavy set, stoutish build, short thick neck, native of London, and is well acquainted with that place; dressed in blue pilot cloth overcoat, rather short, black velvet collar, black cloth coat underneath, fancy rep cloth trousers, hard felt muller hat, with flat crown, wears linen collars, short quick walker, respectable appearance, carries a black satchel bag, and walking stick, the latter is rather short and has a spike at the end ; he is in the habit of travelling about the country cleaning clocks and watches, and has pledged several that he had to repair. Stolen from Nantmadog Cray, on 16th instant: a pair of man's size Boots, elastic- sides, have been repaired with two small pieces under the toes, about half worn ; also three Hand- saws, since recovered. By a tramp, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, dark, heavy moustache, whiskers shaved off, military appear- ance ; dressed in a brown or grey tweed suit, blue overcoat, and brown cap; he was traced to Brecon on 17th instant. Information to Police Sergeant Williams, Devynnock, Brecon- shire.— Bow- street, July 21. Description of EDWARD ROGERS, a farm labourer, of Hengoed, near Oswestry, charged on a warrant with having stolen a pair of boots, recovered at Pentrekendrick, Whitting ton, on 12th instant : he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, narrow features, pale complexion, small dark moustache, no whiskers or beard, downcast expression of the eyes, has an impediment in his speech, and is slightly deaf ; dressed when last seen in a dirty drab slop, dirty cord trousers, and billy- cock hat, may be wearing a dark cloth cap with peak, small tassels in front, and knob on top. Absconded on 8th instant, charged on a | warrant with embezzlement: EDWIN BEDFORD, late of 71, Stockwell Park Road, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very dark brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, ends of which are rather sandy, dark eyes, very pale complexion, and a native1 of Dublin. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- st,, July 21. Abscoiided from Yeovil on 12th instant, charged with larceny : CHARLES DEANE, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair and whiskers which are small, and slight moustache, large front teeth which project, sallow complexion, slight build, stoops rather in walking, when spoken to appears to be of weak mind; generally dressed in round jacket or slop, moleskin trousers. He has worked as a labourer, and in a sail cloth manufactory. Information to Mr. Superintendent Smith, Somerset Constabulary, Yeovil, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 21. Stolen between 10 p. m. on 13th, and 7 p. m. on 19th inst.: from the dwelling- house of William Piner, labourer, at Gerrards Cross : a pair of man's lace- up Boots, with brass eyelets, tips on the heels, and nailed. Supposed by a man who was lodging at the above bouse, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, and small whiskers ; dressed in corduroy jacket and trousers, soft felt hat; is a farm labourer, and a native of Benson, Oxon. In- formation to Inspector Ray, Police Station, Beaconsfield, Bucks.— Bow- street, July 21. Charged with stealing a Watch and Chain, ( recovered) on 18th instant, fi om the house of Richard Myatt, Siddals- road, Derby, where he had been lodging for a few nights : a man, 23 years ; of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout build, light hair, slight whiskers and moustache, inclined to sandy ; dresst d in black cloth coat, and vest, ( diagonal) brown cloth trousers, and black felt hat, states he is a clerk, that his father resides at Shrewsbury, and owns some limeworks there. Information to Chief Constable Delacombe, Town Hall, Derby.— Bow- street, July 21. Absconded, charged with embezzlement: SYDNEY STRETTON, 31, Weedington- road, Kentish- town, a porter, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair, slight whiskers and moustache, morose visage ; dressed in grey walking coat, dark vest and trousers, round felt hat. Warrant iesned.— Metro- politan Police, C Division, July 18. Absconded, charged with embezzlement: FREDERICK ROLLINSON, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, hair and moustache ( small) brown, has a twitching right side of face ; dressed in dark clothes, high black liat; respectable appearance. Warrant issued. — Metropolitan Police, B Division, July 18. Further information respecting JOHN HALL BLACK- BURN, a tramping cooper, advertised in Police Gazette of 7th instant: three silver lever Watches, Nos. 12559, 7059, and a silver lever watch, with number erased, and gold mounted hair Albert, have been recovered : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 41 inches high, fresh complexion, long thin face, sharp nose, grey eyes, very white eyebrows, brown hair, light or ginger moustache, and chin ender, birth mark on top of head, bald about size of a five shilling piece, scar on right cheek and neck, lost three or four teeth at front; dressed in dark coat, grey or striped trousers, black and white vest, white silk necktie, tied in a sailor's knot, black soft billycock hat, which he wears over his eyes, is a native of Sunderland, where he has a wife living; has worked at Coopers' shops nearly all over the country, and frequents common lodging- houses. Absconded on 16th instant, charged with stealing £ 10 in Gold and Silver, and a single stone diamond Ring :! a German, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, moustache and goatee ( slight) brown ; dress, grey coat, dark trousers and vest, round felt hat, side spring boots, likely to g ® abroad.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, July 18. Absconded, charged on warrant with embezzling £ 5 9s 9d.: THOMAS P. SEBRIGHT, late of Exeter, he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, slight build, dark brown hair, whis- kers and moustache, pale complexion, roman nose, and round shouldered ; dressed in a dark cloth suit of clothes, and hard poll hat, has been a soldier ; he was employed to sell coals for Messrs. Stolen from a boot and shoe shop at New Mills, on 10th instant, two pairs of men's new Boots ( Balmoral), grained tops, toecaps, brass eyelet holes, size 8 or 9, and marked on sole with letters 1 E. S.' By a tramp about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in dark moleskin trousers, brown jacket, and black hard felt hat. Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 34 : JAMES WOOTTON, 3, Upper Dorset- place, Blandford - square, butcher, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark check coat, pepper- and- salt coloured vest aud trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots, all old and dirty. Absconded about 30th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 40, moneys of the Society of Fellowship Porters, 17, St. Mary's- at- Hill: JOHN PINK, 116, Cobourg- road, Old Kent- road, 74 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, grey hair and whiskers ; of respectable appear- ance. Haynes,' both white cotton ; three pairs of men's white Socks, new; a Napkin ; a red cotton Handkerchief with numerous white flags in centre and light grey edge with grey flowers ; a white Slop; a Thimble, some Thread, and an Army Reserve Paper, in blank. The whole belie • ed to be the property of some tailor.
