Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that in information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. AM no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLIOS GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor MUSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Stolen from the person at Manley Park, about 6 p. m. on 17th instant : a silver lever hunting Watch, white dial, gold hands, maker W. W. Kent, Manchester, No. 10025, engraved outside ' J. S. T.' Information to Mr. Superintendent Bent, County Constabulary Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester. — Bow- street, May 21. Stolen from the person of Predk. William Ashford, at Uckfifild Fair, on 14th instant: a patent silver lever Watch, Nor44070, engraved on the case ' 140770.' Supposed by a prostitute from Tunbridge Wells, from 25 to 30 years of age, pale complexion, short and stout, dark brown hair ; dressed in a black silk jacket, black silk dress, and black hat; attends fairs, clubs, & c., with a man selling baked potatoes, whelks, & c. Information to Mr. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen from the person at Lewes Races, on 16th instant : a small silver Watch, engine- turned case. During the night of 23rd instant, the Tommy Shop of Samuel Groncutt and Sons, Bradley, near Bilston, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 27 pairs of new Boots, 4 English Cheeses, a side of Baeon, 24 lb. of Tobacco, 12 lb. of Currants, 26 lb", of tTea, 76 yards of wool Shirting, some childrens [ coloured Socks, 4 lb. of Sweets, a piece of red Twill, and a few white Handkerchiefs. Between 10 p. m. 23rd, and 7 a. m. 24th instant, the residence of Mrs. Hawkshead Talbot, of Hartwood, Chorley, • was broken and entered, and a silver Trowel stolen therein : the trowel was presented to Mrs. Talbot, on the laying of the foundation stone of a church at Southport some years ago, and bears an inscription to that effect. Information to E. Liddell, Chief Constable for the Borough of Newark, Nottinghamshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen on 21st instant, by means of housebreaking: £ 155 consisting of, 10 Ten Pound and 11 Five Pound Bank of England Notes, numbers not known ; a dark grey tweed shooting Coat, about half worn, pocket outside of each lap and 1 inside of left breast, black lining, - with patch inside one of the laps ; and an old Verge Watch No. 721, makers names J. & W. Blaylock, Longtown ; has silver Albert Chain with key and Seal attached, stone out of seal, and keeper lost from end of guard : a man was seen in the neighbourhood and is suspected, a tramp, unknown, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, thin whiskers round face and on chin, ( supposed shaved about an inch below ears on each side of face), proportionate figure ; dressed in sleeved vest or round jacket, brown ( supposed to be moleskin) trousers, glazed down left side, and torn a few inches from bottom of outside of left leg. Between 9 p. m. on 17th aud 7 a. m. on 19th instant, the Booking Office at Quainton Railway Station, on the Bucking- ham and Aylesbury Line, was entered and stolen therein : a plain gold Ring; a gold Ring, with blue stones ; a plain band Bracelet, with an Egyptian head ; a pair of Scissors ; a silver Thimble ; a button Hook and Stilletto, with white handles ; two cotton Shirts— one plaid, the other white ; and a Pillow- ease. Information to Mr. Superintendent Shepherd, Steeple Claydon, Winslow, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 23. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Captain Dawson, at Fulwood, by means of burglary, on 22nd instant : a morocco Case, containing a pair of plated fish Carvers, with twisted mother o' pearl handles, with crest— head of a cat witl. mouse on a tower ; two pairs of carving Knives and Forks, makers Mappin Brothers; a earvirig Knife, same makers; four large KniveS, makers Wigfalland Co.; five ditto, makers Mappin Brothers ; six small ditto, same makers ; six small ditto, makers Hunter and Sons, Sheffield ; an ormolu paper Knife, all with white handles ; a grey eloth Coat, black velvet collar, marked ' Captain F. Dawson, 106th Regiment/ inside of collar ; a gold scarf Pin, with blue enamel and diamonds ; a silver table Spoon, with crest— head of a cat with a mouse on a tower. Stolen by means Kingsfold Warnham : pockets at the sides, and one inside breastpocket, and dark bone buttons ; a small fancy enamelled Box, lined with gold two children's gold Thimbles, marked ' E. G.' and ' C. G.' about £ 8 in Gold ; aud some Silver. Supposed by two men. one about 48 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair turning grey, beard and whiskers cut short, ' fall round face the other about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and beard, long moustache ; both dressed in dark clothes, and hard felt round black bats. ' Information to Mr. Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, May 23, the property of Mr. G. H. Sheppherd, Colwall. Information to Mr. Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen from the stable of Thomas Gilliet, Esq., of Dowthorpe Hall, East Riding of Yorkshire, during the night of 23rd instant : a brown Horse, aged, about 15 hands 2 or 3 inches. high, half bred, off hind fetlock white, the sides of the horse are very much chaffed from the effects of the cart shafts. £ 3 reward will be given for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horse. Informotion to Mr. Superintendent Gibson, Sproutly, Yorkshire.— Bow street, ij. au 26. of burglary on 21st instant, from a dark grey Overcoat, velvet collar During the night of 16th instant the house of Mr. Jas. Silver, Bulmershe- road, Earley, Reading, was burglariously entered and stolen therein : two old pattern silver Tea Spoons, six plated Tea Spoons, thread pattern, with ' S ' engraved on each; a dark blue frock Coat, pockets of which contained a, 3 foot Rule, and a pair of new kid Gloves, slate colour. In- formation to Mr. Chief Superintendent Grant, Reading, Berkshire.— Bow- street, May 21. Stolen between 11 p. m. on 16th and 7 a. m. on 17th inst., from the dwelling- house of Thomas Goldsworthy, Egremont: a blue pilot eloth Overcoat, double- breagted, black velvet collar, tw- a - pook- efs- outsTCle with flaps and one inside left breast, black horn buttons, and lined with grey mixture woollen stuff; a single- breasted blue pilot cloth Overcoat with long laps, two pockets outside with laps and one inside left , breast, black velvet collar, blaek cloth buttons, top button being raised in centre, lined with heavy grey tweed, has along grease mark on the lining at the bottom of the back, and each cuff has been shortened and turned in; a double- breasted cloth walking Coat, dice pattern, two pockets in skirts behind, one inside left breast, and a small ticket pocket on the right hand side, black lining, and black cloth covered buttons ; a brown double- breasted tweed walking Coat, two " pockets out- side with flaps and one inside left breast, flat cloth covered buttons, and black colour lining ; a white Muffler; five pairs of men's lace- up Boots, size 7, all with toecaps, eyelet holes and hooks ; a pair of buttoned Boots with kid tops, 7 size ; and a pair of lace- up Boots, to fit a boy 14 years of age. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Cheshire Constabulary, Birkenhead.— Bow- street, May 21. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Colwall, Herefordshire, between I9th and 21st instant: six white- faced ewe Sheep, not shorne, Stolen on the night of 19th instant, from a field at the Sale Farm, Buttington ; the property of Mr. John Roberts : a two- year old Heifer, in calf ( recovered), having been sold iu Shrewsbury Smithfield, on the morning of 20th, by a man from 22 to 25 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, and a moustache of about a month's growth ; supposed to have lost an upper front tooth ; dressed in a suit of dark clothes, small round- top hat, elastic- side boots, and wore a long blue cloth overcoat. Information to P. C. Thomas, Buttington, or to Mr. Superin, tendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. — Bow- street- May 26. Charged with Horse stealing: JOHN HAWKES, a lan, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, complexion swarthy, hair and eyes dark ; dress, dark coat, light vest and trousers, felt hat, a known horse thief and likely to be found at fairs. Warrant issued. — Metropolitan Police, B Division May 26. Charged with obtaining two Horses by false pretences : JAMES SAWYER, alias FARMER, RINGWOOD, 50 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, grey hair, flat mouth. JACK THE TAILOR, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, daii. complexion and hair. - Both hoiW copers, and frequent fairs and markets. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 26. Further particulars respecting the bay cob Horse stolen and advertised in Police Gazette of 21st instant : On 16th instant, about 12 midnight, a Horse and Hansom Cab, No. 8514, were stolen from the corner of Denman- street and Sherwood- street, Golden- square, the Cab being left about two hours* afterwards at Islington without the Horse. The Horse, a bay gelding, is good- looking, 6 years old, about 14 hands 2 inches high, white star on forehead, about 6 inches of white on near hind leg, has been clipped, trace high, but now nearly grown out. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Thomas Simmouds, 5, Colville Mews, Bayswater, for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves,— Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 23. Stolen from a field at Aston Hall, Claverley, on 7th inst. : 4 Lambs, about 9 weeks old, long tails, Shropshire breed, supposed marked ' W.', the property of Mr. John Wilson, Aston Hall, Claverley, Bridgnorth. Information to Mr. Superintendent Christie, or to Sergeant Leader, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, May 23. Description of WILLIAM JONES, charged with stealing a mare Pony and Colt from the Mountain, near Beaufort, since found sold at Pontypool, on 22nd ultimo, to a man named Hale : he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 to 7 inches high, proportionate make, sallow complexion, rather long nose, open countenance, thin dark whiskers and moustache, does not shave, heavy voice ; supposed dressed iu dark clothes ( black or pilot cloth), or may be wearing a brown Overcoat with velvet collar. He is a native of Ross, Herefordshire, and has been employed at Ebbw Yale Works for years blasting rock and heavy castings with dynamite. 1 He left Newtown, Ebbw Yale, on 16th instant, stating he was going to see his daughter iu service with A. J. Burr, Esq., chief clerk, general, manager's office, Paddington Station, London. Information to Mr. Superintendent Foll, Monmouth Constabulary, Tredegar, or to Sergeant Kendall, Ebbw Vale, who holds the warrant for his aj> prehension.— Bow- street May 23. Supposed stolen from a field at Freshford, on 14th inst. : a light bay mare Pony, 9 years old, 11 hands high, long coat, mane and tail, white star on forehead, and branded ' P' on back. If stolen £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender. Information to Mr. Superintendent Morgan, County Police Statior, Bath, Somersetshire. — Bow- street, May 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a public house in Durham, between 8 and 9.40 p. m. on 21st instant: a black cloth shooting Coat, has a pocket in each skirt inside ; a black double- breasted Vest; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly fronts and cross pockets, lined in the waist with blue and white striped lining ; a full suit of man's dark mixed tweed ( new fashioned cloth) Coat, bound with narrow silk braid, cut- away at the front, falls well back on the hips, had a silk Handkerchief in one of the pockets, white and yellow stripes round the edge, and yellow spots in the centre ; an electro- plated Teapot, falcon on top of lid ; a small Cream Jug, with chased handle and body, and raised flowers ; a Sugar Basin, electro- plate, green glass centre, and raised with fern leaves ; a silver Brooch, oval shape, flowered, with raised star in centre ; a small papier- mache Jewellery Box, has the name of ' Gradon' on it, containing a silver Brooch, shape of half- moon, and set with small white glass, imitation diamonds, and star in centre ; a pair of small silver Ear- rings, circular shape, set with white glass, imitation diamonds; a gentleman's gold King, with black stone and white mark across ; an imitation gold Cross aud Ear- rings to match, with red stones and tassels at the ends ; a plated- gold Pencil- case, with amber stone at end; a pair of gold Ear- studs, enamelled, with green stones in centre; a pair of Sleeve- links, hronze, ' Epsom' eDgraved on them; a pair of Sleeve- links, with three dice in centre ; a pair of grey Trou- sers, well worn, out at seat, and newly washed; a brown imitation sealskin Jacket, short, hooks down tbe front, point of hooks turned inwards, and lined with black satin cloth. Supposed by three men— one about 24 years of age, tall and thin, dark complexion, black moustache, supposed no whiskers ; dressed in dark suit, and old lace boots, one of which has been mended at the toe, had whitish coloured muffler round his neck, very dark eyes, turns his toes out when walking, and a soft billycock hat. Another about 23 years of age, short, and medium build, fair complexion, no whiskers, fair moustache, nose appears to have been broken, very much pockpitted about the eyes, nose, and cheek bones ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, and hard felt hat. And the third, about 50 years of age, stout build, short, fair complexion, whiskers shaved off down sides of face, ginger chin ender, and very small mous- tache ; dressed in dark clothes, trousers very much worn at the bottoms, had a green coloured muffler round his neck, and hard felt hat. The two last described had the appear- ance of father aud son, very Irish looking. The whole of them had a very dirty appearance. Information to Head Constable Duns, City Police, Durham.— Bow- street, May 26. Description of THOMAS LAKIN, clerk, who absconded from Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, on 21st instant, charged with embezzling the sum of .£ 65 0s. 10d., the Monies of his employer : he is 20 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slight build, light complexion, fair hair, slight moustache and whiskers, which may be shaved off; dressed in brown mixture suit, reefer jacket, and black billycock hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Gallaway, Police Station, Aston, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Description of GEORGE EAGLETON, alias G. H. BIRD, charged with stealing a blank Cheque. Warrant issued. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark eyes and hair, whiskers and moustache turning grey, chin shaved, hair parted in centre, prominent nose, very small ears, and small white hands; generally dressed in black cloth suit, black cloth overcoat, or grey mix- ture suit, grey ulster, and violet- coloured necktie. Informa tion to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Absconded on 15th instant, charged with stealing four Sheets, four Blankets, and a Coverlet, which have been recovered, from a Seamen's Mission Room at Devonport, and for whose apprehension a warrant is granted : FREDERICK V1VYAN, 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair, whiskers and moustache, and shaves under the chin ; dressed in blue serge coat, and black hard hat; has been at sea as an officer's servant, and is likely to endeavour to obtain a similar situation. Information to Head Constable Lynn, Devonport, Devonshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen on 17th instant, lb. of Beef Steak, from the pocket of a coat, near the premises of Mr. Nnnn, Bassing- bourn. Supposed by a tramp about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, has lost his forefinger off right hand; dressed in common cord trousers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dade, Arrington, Cambridge. — Bow- street, May 26. Absconded from Stourbridge, charged with stealing £ 3 6s. on 11th instant: W. J. CHAMBERLAIN, an hotel clerk, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair, and small dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in light grey cloth suit of clothes, and black round billycock hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wheeler, Police Office, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen between 8 p. m. on. 16th instant and 6 a. m. on 17th instant, from the schooner ' Princess' lying in the River Dee, at Connah's Quay, Flintshire : a round blue cloth Jacket with velvet collar, covered buttons, lined with blue and black plaid, sleeves lined with dark calico or stuff, bound round with black braid, pockets on hips, one inside breast pocket, marked inside of one sleeve ' W. Davison' ; a round Jacket, brown stripe! Scotch plaid, pockets on hips, two small ditto above, lined with dark alpaca or stuff; a blue pilot cloth monkey Jacket, velvet collar, torn on right shoulder, body lined with imitation sealskin and mended inside of one sleeve ; 3" Blankets— one large size and two smaller ones, one mended where it had been burnt; a blue and white Quilt, mended with a piece of grey stuff about a foot square ; a pair of Dew Braces; the property of Wm. Davison. Also at the same time and place a pair of sea Boots, nearly new, one heel giving way a little ; an oilskin Jacket and Trousers, can be identified; the property of John Jones, mate. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, Flintshire, or to Sergeant Lockwood, Hawarden.— Bow- st., May 26. Stolen between 6 and 7 a. m. on 22nd instant, from No. 13, Lawn- road, Northfleet, Kent, a black cloth Coat with velvet collar, and a black fustian Yest. By a man, who lodged at the house, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, and hair, no whiskers, small dark moustache; dressed in dirty white slop, fustian trousers, cord vest, and cloth cap with peak. Information to Mr. Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, Hay 26. Stolen between 6 p. m. 21st, and 7 a. m. 22nd instant, from some houses in course of erection at Wheelton: 6 mason's Trowels, one nearly new, and the others part worn, two of them cracked in the handles; 4 mason's Chisels, marked ' X. X.' Supposed by a man, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, lias small err- rings in his ears, a mason by trade ; dressed in very dirty old clothing, and has the appearance of a tramp. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Beetham, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen on 17th instant: lb. of Beef Stake, from a coat, lying near the farm premises of Mr. Nunn, of Bassing- bourn, Cambs. Supposed by a tramp about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, has not shaved for some time, very rough full face, strong build ; supposed to have been a soldier, has lost the forefinger of his right hand; dressed in an old fustian jacket, very dirty, worsted cord trousers, fly fronts, and very much patched, heavy lace- up boots, cut in the fronts, and black felt hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Long, Linton, Cambs, or to Mr. Superintendent Dade, Arrington, Cambs.— Bow- street, May 26. Charged with stealing £ 18 10s.: WM. CHINNERY, a labourer, 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, complexion, hair, and eyes fair, thin face; dressed in black clothes and felt hat. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 26. ARTHUR MITCHELL, charged with embezzlement, advertised in Police Gazette of 7th nlt'mo, has not yet been apprehended.— Metropolitan Police, May 26. Charged with embezzlement : EDWARD CURTIS, 37 years of ago, 5 feet 6J inches high, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, thin face. May visit Brighton, Maidstone, and Ware. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 26. Charged with stealing £ 100 : JOSEPH WATSON, a clerk, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, gentlemanly appearance ; frequents races, and is known at Birmingham and Coventry. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 26. Z 970, was convicted at Leeds 12th June, 1873, for felony, and was sentenced to 7 yeais penal servitude, and was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison 23rd October, 1878 ; he is 44 years of age, 5 feet 4i inches high, sandy hair, blue eyes, sallow complexion, a small scar over right eyebrow, and is a labourer. Z 766, was convicted at Beverley Sessions lst July, 1873, for larceny, and was sen- tenced to 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervi- sion, and was discharged from Parkhurst Convict Prison 13th January last; he is 36 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, red hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, right side has a scar from an old bubo in groin, scar centre of forehead, left side scar from bubo in groin.
