Stolen by means of burglary, between 3 and 4 a. m. on 17th instant, from the Cedars, Overcliffe, Gravesend : a silver Cup, shape of and about the size of an ordinary wine glass. By a man, short and stout made ; dressed in a dark pepper and salt colour shooting coat, moleskin or cord trousers, and dark cap. Can be identified. Stolen from the person of Fredk. William Ashford, at Uckfield Fair, on 14th instant : a patent silver lever Watch, No. 14070, engraved on the case ' 140770.' Supposed by a pro ititute froiti Tunbridge Wells, from 25 to 30 years of age, pale complexion, short and stout, dark brown hair ; dressed in> Jf « r. Jack silk jacket, black silk dress, and black hat; attends fairs, clubs, & a., with a man selling baked potatoes, whelks, & c. Information to Mr. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen from the person at Lewes Races, on 16th instant : a small silver Watch, engine- turned case. Information at the Chief Office, or Mr. Superintendent Osbon, Lewes, - Sussex.— Bow- street, May 19. * Stolen from the person at Pomona Gardens, about 5.30 p. m. on 12th instant, a gold lever Watch, No. 44,733, maker, ' Hargreaves, Liverpool,' white dial, centre seconds, back of case plain, and has a small circle chased in centre. Stolen from, the person at Ipswich Races, on 7th instant: a gold English lever open- face Watch, dent in case, No. 47391, also gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, with seal. Between 9 p. m. on 17th and 7 a. m. on 19th instant, the Booking Office at Quainton Railway Station, 011 the Bucking- ham and Aylesbury Line, was entered and stolen therein : a plain gold Ring; a gold Ring, with blue stones ; a plain band- Bracelet, with an Egyptian head ; a pair of Scissors ; a silver Thimble ; a button Hook and Stilletto, with white handles ; two cotton Shirts— one plaid, the other white ; and a Pillow- case. Information to Mr. Superintendent Shepherd, Steeple Claydon, Winslow, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 23. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Captain Dawson, at Fulwood, by means of burglary, on 22nd instant f a morocco Case, containing a pair of plated fish Carvers, with twisted mother o' pearl handles, with crest— head of a cat with a mouse on a tower ; two pairs cf carving Knives, and Forks, makers Mappin Brothers; a carving Knife, same makers; four large Knives, makers Wigfall and Co.; five ditto, makers Mappin Brothers; six small ditto, same makefs ; six small ditto, makers Hunter and Sons, Sheffield ; an ormolu paper Knife, all'with white handles; a. grey cloth Coat, _ black velvet collar, marked ' Captain F. Silver, Bulmershe- road, Earley, Reading, was burglariously entered and stolen therein : two old pattern silver Tea Spoons, six^ plated Tea Spoons, thread pattern, with ' S1 engraved on each; a dark blue frock Coat, pockets of which contained a 3 foot Rule, and a pair of new kid Gloves, slate colour. In- formation to Mr. Chief Superintendent Grant, Reading, Berkshire.— Bom- street, May 21. Stolen between- Il p. m. oE"' 16th and 7 a. m. on 17th inst., from the dwelling- house of Thomas Goldsworthy, Egremont: a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, black velvet collar, two pockets outside with flaps and one inside left HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Further particulars respecting the bay cob Horse stolen and advertised in Police Gazette of 21st instant: On 16th instant, about 12 midnight, a Horse and Hansom Cab, No. 8514, were stolen from the corner of Denman- street and Sherwood- street, Golden- square, the Cab being left about two hours afterwards at Islington without the Horse. The Horse, a bay gelding, is good- looking, 6 years old, about 14 hands 2 inches high, white star on forehead, about 6 inches of white on near hind leg, has been clipped,' trace high, but now nearly grown out. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Thomas Simmonds, 5, Colville Mews, Bayswater, for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves,— Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 23. Stolen from a field at Aston Hall, Claverley, on 7th inst. : 4 Lambs, about 9 weeks old, long Lails, Shropshire breed, supposed marked ' W.', the property of Mr. J ohn Wilson, Aston Hall, Claverley, Bridgnorth. Information to Mr. Superintendent Christie, or to Sergeant Leader, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, May 23. Description of WILLIAM JONES, charged with stealing a mare Pony and Colt from the Mountain, near Beaufort, since found sold at Pontypool, on 22nd ultimo, to a man named Hale : he is about 45' years of age, 5 feet 5 to 7 inches • high, proportionate make, sallow complexion, rather long nose," open countenance, thin dark whiskers and moustache, does, hot'shave, heavy voice ; supposed dressed in dark cldthes ( black or pilot cloth); or may be wearing a brown Overcoat with velvet collar. He is a native of Ross, Herefordshire, and has been employed at Ebbw Vale Works for yfears blasting rock and heavy castings with dynamite. He left Newtown, Ebbw Vale, on 16t'n instant, stating he was going to see his daughter in service with A. J. Burr, Esq., chief clerk, general manager's office, Paddington Station, London. . Information to Mr. Superintendent Foll, Monmouth Constabulary, Tredegar, or to Sergeant Kendall, Ebbw Vale, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street May 23, Supposed stolen from a field at Freshford, on 14th inst. : a light bay mare Pony, 9 years old, 11 hands high, long coat, mane and tail, white star on forehead, and branded ' P' on back. L'eft at the ' Red Lion' inn, Ellesmere, on 6th instant, by a man unknown : a red and white Cow, in low condition. Supposed stolen. Stolen, on 9th ultimo, from the Moor Pasture, at Wooley Hill Farm, roar Woodland, Durham; the property, of. Mr. George Amos : 19 Scotch Wedder Hoys, marks on face, burn across the nose, A branded on far horn, and rud mark down far side. £ 20 reward. Stolen on 13th instant, from a lodging- house in Penrith, Cumberland : a new black scarf Shawl, with black knotted fringe ; a ( black silk quilted Skirt, with slate coloured lining a black alpaca Umbrella. By a woman who was lodging in the house, and who left on the morning of 13th instant, about 35 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, sallow complexion, long face, dark hair, and end of nose r 1 ; dressed in light cotton dress, dark grey waterproof cloak, black bonnet with white border, and is ot cleanly appearance. Previous to coming to Penrith, she had been works in a cotton faotory at Carlisle. She is a native of London, of good address, and occasionally is addicted to drink. Stated her intention gf going to London. Frequents common lodging • houses,- may be wearing the stolen property. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, May 23 Absconded on 20th instant, stealing 12 white Sheets, 2 Counterpanes, and 18 Pillow Cases : a woman ( servant), 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown liair, blue eyes, and scar on left cheek ; dressed in brown lins# y,' grey woollen shawl, and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, May 23.' Stolen bj1 means. of burglary on 21st instant, from Kingsfold Warnham : a dark grey Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets at the sides, and one inside breast pocket, and dark bone buttons ; a small fancy enamelled Box, lined with gold ; two children's gold Thimbles, marked ' E. G.' and ' C. G.'. ; about £ 8 in Gold ; and some Silver. Supposed by two men, one about 48 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair* turning grey, beard and whiskers cut short, full round face ; the other about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, anel beard, lemg moustache ; both dressed in dark clothes, and hard felt round black hats. Information to Mr. Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, May 23. Stolen 011 21st instant, from the dwelling- house of James Wilshire, at Northfleet, Kent : a silver English lever Watch, maker Benson, London, No. 20799 ; an open- face silver Geneva Watch ; an open- face German silver Watch ; a long silver Guard, with silver Key, silyer Seal, red stone, and two foreign Coins attached ; a long light made silver Guard; a steel Albert Chain ; a Penknife, tortoise shell handle ; 2 blue, striped cotton Shirts ; a cotton Sheet; and 3 Sovereigns. By a woman, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, turning grey, thin face, slight built; dressed in black dress and shawl, black crape bonnet, with black fall thrown back over it. Carried a black leather bag and a bundle. Information'to Mr. Superintene'ent Coppinger, Kent Soiistabu'ary, Chatham.— Bow- street, .'•'' j Absconded from Warrington, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, on lst instant : THOMAS WARD, an Irishman, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, dark eyes, 110 whiskers or mous- tache, long Roman nose, long heck, round shoulders ; was then dressed in a grey frieze coat and vest, former with velvet collar, light cord trousers, laCe- up boots, pilot cloth cap with^ V spotted band round it, and long leather leggings.; has workeS^" there also, for a short time. Information to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 21. Absconded, charged with stealing a Pig at Gorton, on 10th instant : a. man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, and slight moustache; dressed in dark mixture coat, far- worn, black billycock hat, and old shoes. Stated that he lived at 15, " Union- street, Ardwick, which is false. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, May 21. Absconded on 12th instant, stealing £ 15 12s. 9d. : JAMES DUFFIELD, 6, Hawkin- street, Sydney- street, Mile End, labourer, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, - sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, fourth linger right hand deformed; dressed in light tweed coat, dark trousers, and black felt hat. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, May 21. Absconded 011 16th instant, stealing a Cheque for £ 37 8s. lid., on Union Bank, Holborn Circus ( cashed) *• JOHN CUNNINGHAM, warehouseman, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, high cheek bones; dressed in dark frock coat, and billyooek hat. Warrant issued. — Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 21. Absconded from Chatteris, on 19th instant : GEORGE alias PUTTY CLARK, a native of Chatteris, a labourer, 24 or 25 years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, well made, rather dark complexion, brown hair, small whiskers and moustache ( if any) ; usually dressed in a large fustian jacket, fustian vest and trousers, hairy cap with peak, very high lac evup boots ; has the appearance of a railway labourer. He stands charged on warrant stealing 4 bushels of Cockles from a fishing boat at Chatteris, with John Donougho, who is in custody. Clark left Chatteris in company with a shorter man, a labourer, named John Jackson, a native of Chatteris. Information to Inspector Mitchell, Chatteris, Cambridge.— flow- street, May 21. Absconded, charged with stealing £ 12 : HENRY LLEWELLIN, 40 yeais of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, whiskers, beard and moustache; dressed in black cloth overcoat, light ditto under, black vest and trousers, side spring boots, and black felt hat. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 21. Absconded on 19th instant, stealing £ 4 : a youth 16 yrs. of age, 4 feet 2 inches high, light complexion and hair ( long), anel blue eyes; dressed in dark tweed jacket anil vest, black and white check trousers, cheesecutter cap, and lace- up boots. — Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 21. Stolen from the King's Head Hotel, Sandown, on or about 13th instant; the property of Mrs. M. J. Way : a Jewel Case, containing a gold double- bottom consular'English lever Watch, about 14 size, white dial, engine- turned case, small dent on back, and no glass ; a coloured gold Bracelet, flexible band, about - f inch width, brooch centre, engraved outside, opening, with photo inside, and fastening through brooch ; a coloured gold chain Bracelet, round links, fastened by a heart set with four garnets, also a handsome gold Locket, large size with the word ' Mizpah' in raised letters across the front § tea StPb, Hi in a diagonal direction, and plain back, contains photos of a stout elderly lady and gentleman ; a coloured gold Chain, necklet, Brazillian or snake pattern ; a coloured gold Broocb, about 1-| inch in diameter, raised ball centre,, with large pearl set in blue and enamel star ; a pair of Ear- rings to match with fringe ; a pair of small gold Ear- rings, frosted ball with fringe attached; a pair of moderate size coloured gold Ear- rings, acorn pattern; a massive gold Bing with pearls all round, very large inscription on the inside—' In Memory of Sally Way, died December 27th, 1866'; a Ring made of a wedding ring iu the centre, and two gold Rings, one above and one under to form a broad ring, inscription inside ' In Memory of Louisa Selby, died November 7th, 1874' ; a gold black enamel Ring, pearl cross, inscription inside ' In Memory of William Selby, died March 25th, 1870' ; a gold turquoise and pearl Bing, pearl in centre, oval front, surrounded by turquoise ; a half hoop ruby Ring, about 5 stones, slightly damaged; an old wedding Ring, large size, much worn ; a coloured gold Brooch, engraved front, opening, with photo- graph of a gentleman in inside front, photo, of a gentleman given ; a silver Brooch, Scotch topaz ; a coloured gold book Locket, containing four separate photos.— a gentleman, a lady, and two children ; a coloured gold Locket, gent's size, engraved both sides, containing a photo, of a lady, dent on locket; a gold Masonic Pin, with small diamonds ; four other Pins, not described ; a set of gold Studs for front, collar and wrist, engraved ; an ivory Cross, carved and ivory ball fringe, sus- pended by chain ; a gilt Chatelaine, three chains; and a small square old fashioned gold Masonic Brooch, containing all the insignia of the free Masonic Order. Supposed by a man who called at the Hotel about 1 p. m. on 13th instant for apartments, from 40 to 50 years of age, hair turning grey, dark clothes, stout and rather tall. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Horan, Newport, or to Sergeant Knapton, Sandown, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, May 19. Description of a man charged with stealing a Watch and travelling Bag, at Burton- on- Trent, on 14th instant, a shoe- maker, 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light com- plexion, dark hair, medium build, high cheek bones, smart appearance, dark moustache, small beard on chin, and no whiskers; dressed in dark mixture cloth suit, black hard felt hat, inside which is written ' William Lee,' and wears black studs in Shirt. This man was lodging in the house with the owner of the stolen property, and absconded the second day after, taking with him a consular silver Geneva Watch, plain face, No. on face 36570, imitation jet black chain attached, also a lady's small black leather travelling Bag. He left be- hind him a small tin travelling box, containing shoemaker's tools, nails, & c. ; had in his possession a patent iron Jack, patented in May, 1878, by W. P. G. Kures, also eight pairs of new wooden Lasts, made by Paul, Birmingham. States he has been employed as a shopman in a fiim in Bolton, Lanca- shire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Harston, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 19. Charged with stealing on lst instant: a lady's gold Keeper; a gentleman's gold Ring ; a pair of Scissors ; three Razors ; a razor Stone ; and a Shawl: SAMUEL WILCOX, alias JOE DAVIES, 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark curly hair, bald on crown, light coloured moustache, very thick, no whiskers ; had on light clothes, he is a hairdresser, and visits public- houses shaving people ; he is accompanied by a stout woman, and was seen in W: rexham a fortnight ago. Information to Chief Constable Windle, Borough Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 19. Description of WYNDHAM HOWICK, charged on warrant with embezzling Money, belonging to his master Mr. Clapham, a baker, in Brighton : he is 17 or 18 years of age, tali and thin, fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache; dressed as a baker. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 19. Description of JAMES RUTH, charged on warrant with stealing a £ o Note, belonging to his master Mr. Francis Stafford, of Brighton : he is 16 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair parted down the centre, genteel appearance, good looking, proportionate made, speaks with an Irish accent; dressed in dark Chesterfield overcoat, blue cloth trouseis, blue serge jacket, black felt round hat; an errand lad. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street May 19. Description of JAMES ALLDRIDGE, charged on warrant with embezzlement : about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, red face, dark hair, whiskers, and mous- tache, rather stout; dressed in a black jacket, black waist- coat, and plaid check trousers ; been fishmonger's assistant in service of Mr. Lelen, of Brighton. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 19. Absconded, charged with larceny as a bailee under the Bailee Act: WILLIAM ROBINSON, about 40 years of age, about 6 feet high, brown hair cut short, grey eyes, long thin face, high cheek bones, under jaw protruding, thin light hair round chin, sallow complexion, third and fourth right fingers bent inward, slender made, small legs, knees bending forward when walking, has large feet and awkward gait, leans forward with his head when " walking, and round shouldered, has a habit of putting both his hands in his trousers pockets when standing or talking to people; dressed in black and white tweed coat and waistcoat, grey striped trousers, black soft felt hat; carried a large black leather bag and umbrella, has also a blue coat which he may be - « earing. He is a shoe- maker, has lived at Haltwhistle in Northumberland, for about 6 years. A letter has been received at Haltwhistle, ' from Robinson; posted at West Brompton on 14th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Stephenson, Hexham, or Sergeant Robson, Haltwhistle, Northumberland, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 19. 1 or 2 inches high, broad features, dark brown hair, no whis- kers ; dressed in blue serge jacket, brown and black striped fustian trousers, blue cloth cap, old boots, one ( supposed the right) trodden over, outwards ; sometimes he goes by the name of Norfolk Billy, and Cambridge Billy. Information to Mr. Superintendent Danby, Brigg, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, May 23. Charged with obtaining on 30th ultimo, at Hayward's Heath, under a false pretence : a pair of woman's Boots ; a pair of children's Boots ; a pair of Stockings ; and a pound of Biscuits, the property of Frederick Herbert Beeney: MARY CHANT, late of No. 4, Railway Huts, Ardingly, Sussex, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, has a short pug nose, pockpitted, black hair, slight, is married, and has two children with her, a boy, about 9 years of age, aud a girl, about 4 years of age ; she stated her husband has left her, he is a navvy, and is known as Jemmy the Whip; she is supposed to be on new railway works, and is a prostitute. Information at the Chief Con- stable's Office, Leves, or to Mr. Superintendent Bocock, Cuckfield, Hayward's Heath, Sussex, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, May 19.
