Sjottce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed , offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in tefecence to tho POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of ths Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor ssawgt tee prepaid; otherwise the insertion will not be siade. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of. Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. BURGLARY MB HOUS1 INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found on the night of llth instant, about 9.15 p. m., the dead Body of a newly- born female Child ; dressed in a calico gown, Scotch insertion baud, lined with Turkey red in front, 5 inches broad, trimmest with everlasting edging round neck and sleeves and ends of strings, and tape in the neck. The Body was laid out, as described, in a common deal box, 1 foot 11 inches long, 7 inches wide, and inches deep, nailed together with foreign wire nails about 2 inches jong, blacked all over apparently with common blacking. The box was found lying in a small hole in the ground on the Town Moat, near Spital Tongues, and beside the box was an holland apron, without strings, such as are worn by a joiner. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' has been found by the Coroner's jury. Informa- tion to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne.— Bow- street, April 16. Description of WILLIAM ARNOLD, who is charged ( with LEVI WEBB alias BEBBY in custody) with causing grievous bodily harm to John Prior, at Writtle, Essex, on 1st instant: 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair and complexion, and blind of one eye; dressed in a billycock hat, light coloured jacket, and light cord trousers. Travels I with a brush and broom van, with the name of ' Matia Bateman' on the plate. Information to Mr. Superintendent tennon, Constabulary Office, Chelmsford, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 15. About 10.10 p. m. on 30th ultimo, Michael Delaney was ordered by some person or persons unknown whilst Iiployed at the Salt Lake Furnaces of Messrs. Suape & Co.' s Chemical Works, at West Bank Dock, Midnes Marsh, Midnes, Lancashire. Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of £ 100 to any person, other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom, who shall give such informa- tion and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result; and Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said county offer a further reward of £ 100 to any person, other than above mentioned, who shall give such information and evidence as aforesaid. Information to the Chief Constable, County Police Office, Preston ; Mr. Superintendent Brindle. Police Office, Prescot; or at any Police Station.— Bow- street, April 15. Between 11 and 12 p. m. 15th instant, Billinge Scar House, the residence of Daniel Thwaites, Esq., M. P., was burglariously entered, and a linen Cover for a timepiece stolen therein. Stolen between 10 p. m. on 17th, and 7' 30 a. m. on 18th inst., from the provision shop of Mr. Henry Pemberton, 84, King- street, Blackburn : about £ 7 in copper Money. Information to Chief Constable Potts, Police Office, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- st., April 21. During the night of 15th instant, the residence of James Hopkins, Esq , Watford New Town, was broken into, and a silver Sugar Spoon, marked ' J. H.' was stolen therein. Also on the same night the residence of Dr. John Attfield, Langley- road, Watford New Town, was broken into, and stolen therein : a broken glass Smelling Bottle, with its silver ends; also a case of glass Models of precious Stones, each model about an inch long, and half an inch thick, they were models showing the colour and the natural crystalline form of such gems as the diamond, emerald, sapphire, ruby, amethyst, & c., to the number of 18, the case was an ordinary jewellers trinket case, 18 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 1J inch thick when closed, the models were let into the velvet inside, and in front of each was a fixed ivory label, with the respective names engraved. Information to Mr. Superintendent Isgate, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Bow- street, April 21. Wanted for breaking into an office at Miles Platting, between 6 p. m. on 10th and 10 a. m. on 13th instant, and stealing therein a brown mixture tweed cloth round Jacket, man's size, with three pockets outside, and maker's name— Stone and Foster, London,' on a small patch behind; a brown mixture cloth morning Coat, man's size, with dark bone but- tons, and three pockets outside ; a brown mixture tweed cloth shooting Coat, plaid pattern, with three pockets outside and flat bone buttons, all partly worn ; a papier mache Cruet- Stand with gilt round the bottom ; a cloth Brush, mahogany back ; two black lead Brushes ; a table Knife, ivory handle ; and an electro- plated Fork, fiddle pattern : a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, rough beard, walked with slouching gait; dressed in flat topped cloth cap, and rough dark blue pilot coat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, Lancashire.— Bow street, April 18. Description of JOHN STOKES, who absconded from Aston, near Birmingham, on lst instant, charged with break- ing and entering the dwelling- house of John Jukes, 22, Brougham- street, Aston, and stealing therein : 2 £ 100 Notes, of the Birmingham Branch of the Bank of England, dated 12th May, 1876 ; about £ 100 in Gold, and £ 1 in Silver; 2 gold Watches, 1 silver Watch, and 3 Gentlemen's gold Dress Rings. lie is 34 years of age, 5 feet high, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, shaves dean, turns his toes out when walking ; dressed in a long blue overcoat, black soft billy hat, and cord trousers. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension- Bow- street, April 15. Further information respecting the property stolen from the cottage at Lions- lane, near Ellesmere, as advertised in the Police Gazette of 10th instant : sthe stolen Jacket has a velvet ( ollar, and the Boots have been roughly repaired on outside of each heel, one heel having a few nails on one side. The offence was committed by a man about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, stout build, red face, dark brown hair, and whiskers round the face, has the appearance of a tramping labourer; dressed in the stolen hat ( an old black billycock lined with blue), a dark grey cloth jacket, with pockets on hips, a pair of old dirty cotton cord trousers, torn at bottoms, and a pair of strong lace- up boots. He was traced into Cheshire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Walters, Ellesmere, Shropshire.— Bovj- street, April 15. arrow, D. 20 ; 1 pair old dark Trousers ; 1 pair old cord do.; 1 old canvas Bag, shape of a common carpet bag ; 3 new black handled pocket Knives; 1 white Handkerchief with red spots and border; 1 white twill Guernsey, with white silk facings ; a round open fish Basket, marked in two places Y- H- S in black letters ; 2 old . Sacks ; 4 pairs old lace- up Boots ; 1 pair old Bluchers ; and an old fresh painted green hand Cart, fore part broken and sacks nailed on. Stolen from the person at Llangollen, on llth instant: a ^ silver lever hunting Watch, maker Thomas Heywood, Wrex- ham, No. 5762. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Wrexham, or to Inspector Humphreys, Llangollen, Denbigh- shire.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen from the person at Heathfield Fair on 14th instant, an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, outside case worn very thin, No. 6666, maker ' Brown, London'; also a Bag, contain- ing a Half- Sovereign and 4s. in Silver; the Bag has since been found. Information at the Head Constable's Office, Lewes, to the Superintendent, or to Deputy Chief Constable Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen from the person at Matlock Bath Railway Station, on llth instant: a silver lever Watch, capped,' Hart' engraved inside the outer case. Information to Mr. Superintendent Sharpe, Police Station, Wirksworth.— Bow- street, April 15. Stolen from the person at Greens Arms Race Grounds, Clayton, on 29th ultimo : A gold lever hunting stop Watch, Number 9161. Information to Mr. Superiatendent Ludlam, County Police Office, Wilshaw,— Bow- street, April 15, HORSE AMD CATTLE STEALING. Found straying in Slough, Bucks, ou 12th instant, and supposed to have been stolen: a bay nag Mare, aged, 15 hands high, black mane and tail, lame in the off fore foot ( which is enlarged), off hind fetlock white, a few white saddle marks, and a small white blaze down forehead. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.—- Bow- street, April 21. Found at Bletchingley, Surrey, about 14th ultimo ( sup- posed stolen) : a dark brown horse Pouy, 11| hands high, blind with off eye, two white spots on near side, saddle marks on back, in good condition, and four good shoes on. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Bedford, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- street, April 18. Description of a man, charged with stealing a Donkey at East Dereham, on 9th instant, since recovered : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very broad chest, dark brown hair, tuft of hair on chin, little or no whiskers, high cheek bones, rather hollow towards the chin ; dressed in brown coat or monkey jacket, bound with black braid, dark brown fancy cord trousers, dark fur cap, and blucher boots. He left the following property behind him, supposed stolen|: 1 [ grey calico Shirt, marked 1st W. N. M, I8775 22, W, broad LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of WILLIAM GREVATT, charged on warrant with embezzling Money, belonging to Mr. Avery, a potato merchant, of Brighton : he is about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, round face, fresh complexion, few fair whiskers, stoutly made, aud dark hair. Stolen on the morning of 17th instant, from a shop in Cambridge : a Cash Box, containing— 1 lady's small gold Watch, maker Reed, Cambridge, with small pattern long gold Chain, had a silver Pencil- case and a gold Locket attached, with a photo of a lady, and the words ' In Memory ' outside. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with a turquoise and two pearls, with a magnifying glass under the stones, with the figure of a woman in a nude state in it. 1 lady's gold regard Ring, set with five stones, one missing. 1 lady's gold Ring, twisted or anchor pattern, very old. 1 gentleman's gold Ring, set with a ruby. 1 gold Pin, formerly a stud, set with some stones, imitation diamonds. 1 gold Pin, set with hair, formerly a brooch. 1 p tir of small gold Ear- drops, shr. pe r. f. a leaf, with small pearls iu centre. 1 gold rimmed Brooch, set with pearls, size of a florin. 1 Scotch pebble Brooch, without a pin. I coral Brooch, with silver back, piu broken. 1 gold oval- shaped Locket, with blue face, and hair at back. 1 old Snuff Box, silver lid, shell bottom, gilt lining, with initials on lid. 2 silver- plated Buckles, one new, one old. 1 old metal Seal, with iight blue stone, ' J. C.' on it. 1 sealskin Purse, blue silk lining. ^ 1 morocco Ditto, with green lining, had initials inside ' M. A. S.' 1 Cheque for £ 30, ou the London and County Bau drawn by Philip E. A warrant has been issued at Chester RICHARD HENRY GREENWOOD, for quantity of brass Fittings ( recovered) : lie is a sml 41 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow fl brown hair, hazel eyes, cut mark left side of neck, lost' upper teeth, fourth finger of right hand has been injul and. seal on right groin ; dressed in dirty old clothes, ai? piece cut out of one boot to ease buuion. A boot and shoe sh © p at Lancaster, wa3 broken and entered, between 10 p. m. on 12th, and 8 a. m. on 14th instant, and stolen therein : three pairs of ladies 5 size XW glove kid elastic Boots, machine sewn; a pair of lady's 5 size XW kid button morocco Vamps; a pair of lady's 5 size glove kid button hand sewn Fore Part; a pair of lady's 5 size levant Balnural; a pail of lady's 5 size glove Kid, elastic seam to toe, made of French lasts ; a pair of lady's 4 size levant Balmorals : a pair of lady's 7 size levant Balmorals ; a pair of lady's 5 size Kid Buttoned ; a pair of lady's 6 size kid Balmorals ; a pair of lady's 5 size Glove Kid, patent toeeaps, strip across ; a seal- skin Jacket, with sable trimming; a gold Geneva Watch; a b ue serge Coat and Vest; a blue Guernsey, with ' L. F. B. C.' on the chest; and a Coat and Trousers, thick Scotch tweed short cut coat, with four pockets outside, trousers of same material, but rather different pattern. By a bootfinisher, 34 or 35 years of age, fresli com- plexion, about 5 feet 5 inches higk, black hair, inclined to be curly, short whiskers, thick moustache, well built, rather pockpitted; supposed to be dressed in stolen property, including new boots, size 6 or 7, he left behind him a black coat and vest ; and a man, about 33 years of age, fresh com- plexion, dark hair, no whiskers or moustache, hair on chin end, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, well built; dressed iu stolen property, hard billycock hat, new boots, 9 or 10 size, aud a small red and black plaid scarf. Stolen from a, house at Prestwich, between 25th Decem- ber and lst January last: a set of Aqua Marines, Brooch, pendant Earrings, and Bracelets, large stones, set in gold ; a set of fine Indian- work Necklet, Earrings, and Brooch, the latter with pin broken j a pale pink coral Brooch, Flo we and Leaves ; an amethyst Brooch and Earrings, old- fashioned setting; a set of Indian Tigers Claws, set in gold, Bracelet, Pendant, and Brooch, brooch broken ; a gold Bracelet, with Maltese Cross of pearls ; a black enamel Bracelet, medallions with a diamond in centre of each ; a pair of gold Earrings, half- moon shape; a pair of Solitaires, with enamelled bees set in gold ; 2 pairs of Earrings and Bracelet, shaped as flowers ; a Spanish Fan, blue painted on black silk ; a small japanned Cashbox, containing £ 2 or £ 3 in Silver and Copper ; a lady's green silk Umbrella, straight handle; a scarlet flannel Petticoat, embroidered in black ; a lady's bonnet Box, with Tray; a travelling Bag; several pieces of Lace ; an Indian wicker- work Basket, containing several Trinkets and seven linen Handkerchiefs. Supposed by a servant, about 27 years of age, 4 feet 8 or 10 inches high, sallow complexion, small bright brown eyes, brown hair, very small feet and hands, has bad ankles, uoon which she generally wears bandages, shuffling gait aud long waist; dressed in dark ulster, black mushroonl- shaped hat. She has been m service in Kentish- town, London, and has relatives in Sheffield. Stolen from a house at Old Trafford, between 6 and 8 p. m. on 13th instant : a black cameo Brooch, and Ear- rings to match, with gold rims ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, round shape, with carved ball in centre ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, black ground, with white cameo ; a gold Brooch, with black aud grey hair on one side, and portrait of a boy on the other ; a pair of jet Ear- rings, with ' A. E. J.' carved thereon ; a small gold Chain, with two gold keys attached ; a gold King, with diamond in centre, and pearls round, aud two blue turquoise on each side; a gold Ring, with ruby aud two opals, and a piece of coral behind the ruby; a gold Ring, with hair, buckle pattern ; a gold Riug, with six brilliants; a carved gold Ring, with emerald in centre, and brilliants round ; a plain gold Ring, with ' C. H.' thereon ; a silver Brooch, with ball in centre; a pair of silver Ear- rings, acorn shape; a massive silver Necklet Chain, silver Locket, with shield m centre attached, real silver stamped on the loop ; a silver Brooch, with ball iu centre, and twisted silver rope round ; a gold Seal, compass on one side, and bloodstone on the other; a gold Ring, with hair, buckle shape, with the initials, 1 D. H.' and a plaiu gold Ring, with bloodstone. Supposed by a man, between 27 and 30 years of age, low sot, reddish face, full sandy whiskers and moustache, rathe!- stout ; dressed in a brown overcoat, and pot hat, flat top. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 18. Absconded, charged with stealing £ 30 in Gold : a pot- man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light curly hair, slight moustache, femenine voice ; dressed in check tweed coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, all old and dirty.— Metropolitan 1' oliee, M Division, April 18. Further description respecting JOHN SINGLETON, advertised in the Police Gazette of 10th instant: his name is JAMES SINGLETON, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high, brown hair, whiskers a lighter colour, blue eyes, fresh complexion, slightly hunsh- backed, thin built, and has a mole on back of neck. He is a native of Blackpool, Lancashire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Day, Constabulary Office, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen during the night of 10th instant, from one of Batty's circus vans, at Trowbridge : 3 pairs of tweed Trousers, two pairs White and one black ; a brown tweed Coat and Yest, a pair of blue cotton Stockings, 2 white Militia Shirts, 2 coloured Shirts, a pair of Shoes, a pair of elastic- side Boots, a pair of half Wellington Boot3, 3 rough Towels, and a Book . of Fishing Tackle, with two silver pins inside. Supposed by a niau who was recently in Mr. Batty's employ, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 Mies high, sandy han, cut short, carries a small black bag containing beads, which he makes and sells. J Stolen on 12th instant : 3 Dutch Bank Notes, for fe00 florins each, and one foi 200. By a Dutchman, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair and moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in light tweed suit, black witney overcoat, hard felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, II Divi- sion, April 10. Stolen from the shop of Mr. W. Lassetter, at Havant, on 10th instant, an open faced lever gold Watch. _ By a man about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ginger beard and whiskers ; dressed in black felt hai, dark" blue cloth jacket, dark trousers, aud carried a brown overcoat ou his arm. He called at the shop and asked for a o- Franc Piece. Information to Mr. Superintendent Byles, Hants Consta- bulary, Havant.— Bow- street, April 16. Description of ROBERT DITCHBURN, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 76, the monies of the Ashington Co- operanive Society : he is an engineer, late of Ashington Colliery, 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, proportionate build, very dark long hair, dark whiskers and moustache, swarthy complexion, rather bow- legged, swings right leg a little round - when walking, rather slovenly in appearance, and speaks the Northumberland dialect; dressed in a blue pilot cloth suit, nearly new. He left Ashington on 2nd instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Young, Morpeth, North- umberland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 15. Absconded since 29th ultimo, stealing £ 1 10s. lid., RICHARD CARR, 36 years of age, .5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, thin face, and of respectable appearance ; dressed in black frock coat, dark mixture trousers and vest, and black round felt hat. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 15. Description of two men who absconded about 25th. ult. charged on a warrant with larceny : JOHN THATCHER, a labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stoutly built, fresh complexion, dark ' brown hair, and grey eyes; dressed in grey cloth jacket, coriuroy trousers, and black billycock hat. JOHN HOLYOAK, a miner, 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, medium build, broad pale face, and dark brown hair ; dressed in green and black plaid jacket and trousers, or dark jacket and moleskin trousers. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Wheeler, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- strcst, April 1- 5. Absconded on 13th instant, from 16, New- st., Clapham, stealing a £ 5 Bank of England Note : a mau, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and mous- tache ; dressed in white corduroy trousers, and cardigan jacket. He is well known at ISjj King Charles' Head Hotel, Goring Heath, Oxon, Reading, Berks.— Metopolitan Police, W Division, April 15. Further information respecting two men, charged with stealing at Aldbourn, Wilts, on 4th instant, two pairs of Trousers, advertised in Police Gazette of 7th instant: the tallest of them was about 5 feet 6 or" 7 inches high ( not 5 ft. 8 or 9 inches high, as previously described); this man is wearing a pair of the stolen Trousers.
