Jkotlee.—- It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. A » no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor naast be pregiaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Haines and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Stolen by means of house breaking on the Burton- road near Lichfield during the night of 22nd instant: two dark brown mixed tweed reefer Jackets, one pocket inside breast, two inside and two ontside flaps, black bone buttons, had in pockets a light coloured silk Handkerchief, a cotton Ditto, a pocket Book William Sharratt written inside, a pruning Knife with two blades, a bunch of Keys, and two Cigars, also a dark grey reefer Jacket, all lined with black alpaca and nearly new. Information to Sergeant Hammond, Shenstone near Lichfield. - Bow- sti it, Sept. 27. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of 20th inst., as having committed three burglaries in Somerset, has com- mitted another burglary, and apprehended : he gives the name of THOMAS WALK, of Plymouth, 39 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, swarthy com- plexion, upright figure ; dressed in corduroy jacket, moleskin trousers, black bowler hat, has been twice marked with the letter ' D.' on the left side, and on the right arm he has a tower and flag, a cross, two flags crossed, and a crown; he is well acquainted with prison discipline. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from the residence of Mr. Joseph Smith, Mile End- terrace, Bromyard- road, Wor- cester, between 6 and 8' 30 p. m. 22nd instant : A gold Geneva Watch and lady's long gold Chain. A pair of gold Ear- rings and Brooch to match. A large gold Locket, nearly as large as a crown piece. A small ditto, with initials ' R. M.' A gold Ring, with three stones, two black and one white, in the shape of a heart, engraved inside ' God is love.' A gold Ring, containing light hair. A coral Pin, nearly the size of a sixpence. A small silver Knife and Fork, with mother of pearl handle, initials ' M. A. S.' A gold Albert Chain, in two pieces. A pair of silver Ear- rings and Brooch. A mosaic Brooch, set in silver. A pair of coral Eardrops. A pair of gold Earrings. Two gold Studs. A steel Brooch and Earrings. A pair of silver Links. A Florin. A French 10 cent Piece. Four Old English Half- pennies. A grey plaid Coat, new, pockets outside. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- sireet, September 25. Stolen, by means of office- breaking, at Boston, during the night of 18th instant: about £ 14 in Gold, £ 2 in Silver, and 6s. m Copper. Entrance effected by getting through the roof. A f- inch jemmy had been used. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, Boston, Lincolnshire. — Bow - street, September 20. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on 24th instant, from a field at Cropthorne : a cob Mare, 2 years old, recovered at Worcester, having been sold by auction by a man about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair, slight moustache, no whiskers, and pimples on his face ; dressed in dark or black cloth coat, brown speckled vest and trousers, white front or shirt with collar, no necktie, black hard bowler hat, very narrow brim, and was carrying a long dark overcoat and a cane. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Stanton, Police Office, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 27. Absconded, charged on a sheriff's warrant with Sheep stealing, near Lochgilphead, Argyllshire, on 17th instant : JOHN LEITCH, a shepherd, native of Kilmartin, Argyll- shire, resided, lately at Middle Carswell, Neilston, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, slight whiskers, upper front teeth irregular ; dressed in a loose grey suit, loose jacket and cap, short sea boots, hand sewed, without tackets. Speaks English and Gaelic. WILLIAM STEVENSON, a labourer, resides at Middle Carswell, Neilston, about 31 years of age,, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ordinary build, dark complexion, dark- whiskers, slight moustache; dressed in dark suit, sh © » t coat, heavy water tight boots, laced. Information to Chief Constable Mackay, Lockgjjpfifsadi Argyllshire.— Bow- street, Septjmibe. a- 2.7- Stolen from a meadow at Bradfield, Berks, on night of 18th instant: a grey mare Ass, aged, off eye blind, hair off round breechin, bad feet, and not shod. Information to Inspector Pocock, County Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, September 25. Stolen from a field at Appledore, Kent, between 7 p. m. the 18th, and 5' 30 a. m. 19th instant: a black Gelding, 15 hands high, both hind feet white, notch in off ear, off knee much enlarged, in good condition ; and a black mare Cob, about 14 hands high, small white splash down forehead, and broom tail. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, Sept. 23. The Horse advertised in Police Gazette of 18th instant as stolen from Sandbach has been recovered at a public house, near Malpas, where it had been left on 17th instant. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, sandy moustache; dressed in black cloth clothes, white shirt with three studs down front, old lace- up boots, burst out at side, and sewn together with thick wax end, and hard black felt hat. Stated he came from near Crewe. Information to Mr. Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire. — Bow- street, September 23. Stolen from a field at Milford Haven, on the night of 15th instant : a bay Pony, 8 years old, 12 to 13 hands high, white streak on forehead, switch tail, rather short, shod all round, strong mane, in good condition. The pony was sold in the fair at Maenclachog, by DANIEL OWEN, who has been remanded till 21st instant. The pony has not been recovered. Information to the County Chief Constable Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Supposed stolen between 9 p. m. on 13th and " 0 a. m. on 14th instant, from a yard at Spindlington ; the property of Mr. John Stokes, farmer : a thorough- bred Welsh mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12 hands high, in good condition, dark colour, white streak down face, grey muzzle, several white hairs on neck and head, hind fetlocks white to a little above the joints, rough mane with part of it plaited, square bushy tail, marked on one ear, and has a scar on near side of tongue. Information to Inspector Taylor, Lindsey Police Station, Lincolnshire.— Bow street, September 20. About 2 p. m. on 17th instant, a black Gelding, 5 years old, about 15 hands high, four white spots undvr saddle, a few white hairs on forehead, and had on an old rope for halter, was left at a public- house at Hampton, near Malpas, by a man, who said his name was WALKER, and that he came from near Crewe. He offered to sell the horse for twenty guineas, and lowered him to ten pounds, and left word that he must be sold at the next auction to be held at Hampton, near Malpas, on 24th instant, and that he would call some day for the money. He is- about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, thin sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black clothes, white shirt, with three studs down front, and black hard hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Tattenhall, or to Sergeant Bethell, Malpas, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen from Pontefract Park, on the night of 11th inst. : a dark chesnut Russian Horse Pony, 7 years old, 14 hands high, short tail, long mane, which may be cut shorter, small white mark on back, and has recently had a small sore on one side of its neck. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fernside, Town Hall, Pontefract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 20. Found at Rodington, near Wellington, on 6th instant : a yearling Bullock, red coloured, with mottle face white on the forehead, and a little white on both hips. Information to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen from Seven Sisters- road, Holloway, on 16th inst. : a black Pony, 13 hands high, chipped knees, star on forehead, off hind foot white, and box Cart, painted dark green, picked out light, ' John Pelston, 104, Upper North- street, Poplar,' on off shaft.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, Sept. 20. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the morning of 24th instant, from a common lodging house at Llanidloes : an old verge Watch, No. 1907 steel chain attached. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, shaved off about the chin, narrow pale face ; dressed in dark jacket, pockets on flaps, dark vest, blue slop under coat, light or moleskin trousers, and cap with peak. Carries a bundle in a blue handkerchief. Information to the Chief Constaole, Newtown or to Sergeant Sibbald, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on 22nd instant, from the dwelling- house of . John O'Mara, of Barlaston : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch maker, Edwards, Liverpool; a large pruning Knife, with black handle, and a copper ring at the end of it ; a Razor with white bone handle ; a white diaper Towel; and 12s. lid' in Money. By a man who lodged in the house, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and stout build; dressed in new blue cloth coat, dark vest' cotton cord trousers, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire — September 27. Stolen from bedrooms of lodging houses at Marina F O L I C K G A £ K T T E. September 27 Saint Leonards, on 24th instant : a gold English lever Watch, maker Wilson, Cambridge, a long gold Chain, gold Locket with hair, and gold Ring attached ; a silver hunting Watch, maker Job, Saint Leonards, No. 2808, a gold cable- pattern albert Chain, with Guinea, Half Guinea, aud French 20- franc Piece attached ; a silver Geneva Watch, silver face, steel hands, ladies long gold Neckchain attached. Supposed by three men, one 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feei, 8 inches high, dark whiskers worn long at sides, turning grey, dark moustache, shaved on tne chin; dressed in blue coat, check trousers, and low crowned hat ; another about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high ; dressed in a drab check suit, and low crowned hat; the other about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in blue serge round jacket, and low crowned hat, all can be identified. Information to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, or at the Police Station, St. Leonard's- on- Sea.— Bow- street, September 27. Absconded from Bolton, charged with stealing an Over- coat on 16th instant ( recovered): a Scotchman, a loonier or twister- in at a weaving shed, about 55 years of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, slender make, long thin face and nose, pale complexion, grey whiskers, and takes a quantity of snuff; dressed in blacK and white tweed cloth jacket, printed moleskin trousers, and soft billycock hat. Also charged with stealing Wearing Apparel on 23rd inst. : a woman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet high, rather stoutly made, full pale face, and light hair; dressed in a short black jacket, black dress and hat, and boots; wore a pair of ear- rings with a common blue glass drop in the shape of a star. Stated that she and her sister formerly kept an eating- house in Liverpool. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, September 25. Description of JOHN WAND, charged on a warrant with felony ; he absconded on 9th instant, and it is supposed will endeavour to leave the country : he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, about 13 stone weight, bald headed, and has a lump on top of his head about the size of a pigeon's egg ; is accompanied by his wife, about 34 years of age, rather tall, high cheek- bones, and has a little boy 16 months old. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bow- street, September 25. Description of JOHN WALMSLEY, a clerk, who abscouded on 26th ultimo, charged with having embezzled .£ 21 lis. : about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, stoutly built, walks with a swing, whiskers down side of face, and shaves under the chin; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, grey tnnsers, hard black billycock hat, - and elastic- side booi, s. He was seen at Liverpool on 13th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bryning, County Police Office, Black- bum, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. Stolen from the fishing boat' Richards' lying in Whitby Harbour, on 23rd instant, the property of Joseph Thompson and others : a pair of sea Boots, nearly new; a blue pilot cloth reefing Jacket, 3 or 4 pockets outside and two inside, nearly new ; a white moleskin Jacket, with two pockets outside and two inside, lined with black and white horse sheeting, lining has been repaired with different material, sewing loose on one shoulder, trimmed with white bone buttons, recently washed ; a double- breasted moleskin Vest, two pockets outside and one inside, white bone buttons, lining torn near the pocket; an old blue pilot Jacket, much worn ; a blue Guernsey ; and a pair of rough blue cloth Trousers, nearly new. By a man who had been engaged in the boat about 3 weeks, about 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light or sandy hair, cut short and curly, very small light whiskers; dressed when he left in a blue pilot jacket, blue guernsey underneath, blue cloth trousers, Scotch cap with peak, and strong lace- up boots ; is a labourer, and a native of Norfolk. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 25. Absconded on 27th ultimo, charged on a Sheriffs warrant with theft, of 19 pairs of Trousers : a German tailor, named KROUSE, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, very small dark whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, and deeply pockpitted ; dressed in a blue coat, dark trousers and vest, and silk hat. Information to Chief Con- stable McCall, Glasgow.— Bow- street, September 23. Charged with stealing two Books and a Shawl at Whitechurch- in- Dewsland, Pembroke: LOUISA SMITH, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, sallow com- plexion, light hair, and rather stout figure ; dressed in black hat, brown dress, trimmed with stripes of a green material, ab jut 2 or 3 inches wide with white edges, or may be wearing a green dress, clothes and boots all much worn, and supposed to be '"• earing gold Brooch and Ear- rings. She takes lodgiugs at hotels, representing herself to be a stewardess on board some large steamer, or a lady travelling for her own amusement, and states that her luggage will arrive in a day or two, and then, after staying as long as she can, decamps without paying her bill. Information to Deputy Chief Con- stable Jones, Fishguard, or to Sergeant Griffiths, Solva, Pembrokeshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension. — Bow- street, September 20. Charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Table and Bed Linen, from an hotel at Newcastle- on- Tyne, during the last 6 months : ROBERT SHORT, alias COCKNEY BQB, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pale complexion, thin face, sharp nose, small dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in old black cloth suit. WILLIAM SHORT, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, thin face, slender build, no whiskers ; dressed in dark suit of clothes, and black felt hat. Both frequent low public- houses and brothels, playing the pianoforte. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, Northumberland, wh ® holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, Sept. 20, by false pretences : WILLIAM HENRY EYTON, lately residing at No. 26, Bedford- place, Russell- square, London, 35 years of age, 6 feet high, dark moustache, no whiskers, full face, and wears green eye glasses ; well dressed aud of military appearance. His father, the Bev. R. W. Eyton, resides at Cattistock Lodge, Dorchester. Information to the Inspector on duty, City of Loudon Police, Detective Department, No. 26, Old Jewry.— Bow- street, September 23. Absconded from Dumfries, charged with fraud : JAS SMITH, alias ALEXANDER MI-. LS, alias JAMES ROBERTSON, a native of Forfarshire, a mason by trade, from 35 to 40 > ears of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and moustache, small whiskers, and stout build ; dressed in a grey shooting coat, vest, and trousers, and wore a dark felt hat. He commits frauds upon brick manufacturers and agents by ordering quantities of bricks in an assigned name, and by alleging that he is in the course of erecting buildings in certain parts of the town, which is false. He disposes of the bricks at once to builders and others below the market value. He is known to the police in Forfarshire, having been twice convicted of frauds of this description there. He is the same man wanted, by the authorities in Edinburgh, and left Dumfries on 17tli instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Malcolm, Burgh Police Chambers, Dumfries. — Bow- street, September 23. Absconded on 14th instant, charged with obtaining 12s. by false pretences from John Wildgoose, at Cromford : JAMES ELSE, 21 years of age, light hair, small moustache, light complexion, small featured, grey eyes, lame on left foot, toes turn up, in walking he treads on the toes, his heel not touching the ground. He is a lead miner, but may apply for work at stone quarries or railway works. Information to Mr. Superintende t Sharpe, Police Station, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 20. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Descriptu u <? i a woman, who on 12th instant, obtained by false pretences a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots, with ' patent toe caps, and rivets:?, size 4. She is 19 or 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, rather sallow complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes ; dressed in * white straw hat, with jlack ribbon, and white feather or flower, red and black plaid shawl, and brown winsey frock. Information to Inspector Gasson, Constabulary Office, Willenhall, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, September 25. Absconded, charged on a warrant with obtaining Money MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. JAMES UNDERWOOD, a joiner, 36 years of age, 5 feet 6£ inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, oval face, proportionate build, slight rupture left groin, veins swollen left leg, and inside left thigh ; he was convicted at the Wigan Sessions, on 24th January, 1877, of larceny, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, and 3 years police supervision. Is a native of Sandgate, Kent. WILLIAM BEYAN, a butcher or labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, round face, medium build, pockpitted, female, anchor, ship and ring on front of right arm, anchor back of left arm, blue spot back right wrist, ' W. B.' and several blue spots back left arm ; he was convicted at the Liverpool Borough Sessions, on 19th October, 1876, of stealing pigeons, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, and 3 years police supervision.
