As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aSI Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Absconded on 15th instant, charged on a warrant with forgery: fRANK JOSEPH SHARPE, a clerk, late of 21, Mark- lane, and 119, Bridge- road, Battersea, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, and no hair on face ; dressed in dark Melton coat, tweed trousers, and round felt hat. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliams, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street July 19. Absconded, charged [ on warrant with forgery of several Bank Cheques : DAVID TEMPLE, alias R. C. FITZROY, from 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, ordinary make, black hair, swarthy complexion, clean shaved, sharp features; dressed in a black frock coat, white vest, light trousers, and dress hat with black cloth band, gentlemanly appearance, spoke with English accent, and had two black travelling bags. And T. A. CUNDLE ( supposed fictitious), about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, black hair, dark complexion, round face, heavy black moustache only ; dressed in black frock coat, dark trousers and vest, and dress hat, spoke with English accent, and carried a brown silk umbrella. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow. — Bow- street, July 19. Absconded from Bruton, Somersetshire, charged on a warrant with uttering a forged cheque, for the sum of _£ 19 10s., well knowing the same to be forged : WILLIAM DAY, of Bruton, fishmonger, 18 years of age, 5 feet inches high, dark brown hair, clean face, no whiskers or moustache, slight built, turns his feet out when walking, especially the right, which causes a peculiar lounge of the body ; dressed in in light suit, and has a sort of skull cap with peak front and real-, fitting close to his head. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in Hinross market on 22nd inst. : a wold lever Watth, white dial, moments hands, No. 107 ; a gold Albert Chain, small twisted links, and longer plain links alternately; a gold Charm, with blood stone on one side and red on the other, value including appendages £ 30. Stolen from the person on 18th instant, at the Agricul- tural Show, Luton, a silver hunter Watch, maker Joan Bull, Bedford, No. 22319, gold Albert Chain attached. Stolen from the person in Oxford, on 20th instant: a violet- coloured leather Purse, containing 12 or 14 Shillings, and two return railway Tickets from Oxford to Eynsham. By a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, small light whiskers, had on a hard felt hat and dark coat. Information to be given to Mr. Supt. Stolen from the person at Yardley, on 15th instant : a o- entleman's gold hunting lever Watch, white dial, blue steel hands, engine- turned cases, makers— Westrapp and Russell, London. Stolen from the person in Preston, on 14th instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 4216 or 4316, has a crack on the dial betwe « n the figures 2 and 1. Information to be given to BURGLARY AND HOITSE BREAKING. Description of JOHN ALMORE, alias JOHN TAYLOR, alias SMITH, alias DRUMMER TAYLOR, charged on a warrant with warehouse- breaking at Stanhow, and who absconded from Stanhow on 20th instant : he is about 42 years of age, 5 feet 6i inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, pale complexion, cut mark on left eyebrow and on top lip, and scar on neck ; dressed in long fustian jacket, vest and trtusers, white muffler, with red stripes, black cap, and strong lace- up boots. He is an ironstone miner or labourer, sometimes works on public works, and is a native of Holbeach, Lincolnshire. He has only recently come out of Northallerton Prison, after undergoing 6 months imprisonment for assault- ing and stabbing a gamekeeper. Information to be given to Mr. Superintandent Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary Oiice, Guislo- ough.— Bow- strcu, July 26. Between 11 a. m. and 6 p. m. on 23rd instant, the dwelling house of Peter Bellingham, of Kerwicks Wood, Ellesmere, was broken and entered and stolen therei i : a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new, has a watcli pocket, fall fronts, and lined with white calico ; a black cloth vest without collar, about half worn ; and a brown cloth Topcoat, rather rough, dark - brown bone buttons down the front, two pockets on hips, one of which has been torn inside and darned up, lined with dark material. Tramps suspected. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Walters, Ellesmere, Shropshire.— Bow- st-, July 26. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, on 19 th instant, from the cottage of Joseph Moody, at Winthorpe : about £ 40 in Gold and Silver ; a plain gold Ring, worn very thin, and a small Geneva Watch, very old and much worn. And from the dwelling- house of John Walker: a silver lever Watch, No. 8407, maker W. H. Marshall, Wainfleet, the outer case is much bruised. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, July 24. Between 8 and 10 a. m. on 16th instant, the house of James Bowen, Hirst Head, Nichol Forest, Cumberland, was broken and entered and stolen therein : one black velvet Cap, with peak of the same material and an elastic band in front; one pair of woman's low Shoes, far worn with black clasp; i lb. of twist Tobacco ; £ lb. of Cheese ; ^ lb. of Soap; a box of Matches, and three Halfpenny Pieces. Supposed by two men and women, who stopped at a farm- house in the neigh- bourhood the previous night, one of whom hawked needles ; first man from 30 to 40 years ® f age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, ginger whiskers, and slender figure ; dressed in dark coat and cap and greyish trousers. Second, from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, dark brown whiskers, and stout make ; dressed in dark tweed clothes and biack billycock hat. The woman from 60 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, and slender figure; dressed in black bonnet, dark tight- fitting jacket, brown or grey winsey skirt, and were inquiring the road to Copshaw- holme. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Parks, Constabulary Office, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, July 24. Stolen by means of burglary, on 20th instant, in a dwelling- house in Windsor : a plated Pepper Box, shape of an owl ; a small silver Cruet Stand ; a large do., with bottles complete ; a red leather Purse, containing a Sovereign ; a white silk Necktie ; 2 blue cotton Shirts, striped with red ; and 2 plated dessert Forks. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hayes, Borough Police, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, July 22. Between 11 p. m. on 20th and 8 ami. on 21st instant, the farmhouse of A. P. Welch, Esq., at Streatley, Beds, was entered and there was stolen therein : 4 dessert Spoons, 4 tea Spoons, 6 egg Spoons, 4 large Forks and 3 small ditto, all silver, marked ' S. E. W.' ; the property of A. P. Welch, Esq. And a pair of lace- up Shoes, nearly new ( to fit a youth of 16), soles nailed and tips on heels ; a pigeon Pie in blue dish, rose pattern ; half a loaf of Bread ; and half- a- pound of Butter ; the property of Mr. Bunker, tlw bailiff, who lives in the house. HOESS AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from West Harnham, on the night of 6th ultim a dark iron- grey Mare, short black legs and feet, head rather large and lighter colour than the body, 4 years old, about 15£ hands high, walks well, mane and tail rather lighter than the body. The mark of a kick received a few months ago can be plainly felt, but not seen, on the forepart of the near thigh, a few indies above the hock. It has been traced through Broad Hinton and Cricklade, in Wiltshire, through Ciren- cester and near Cheltenham, in Gloucestershire, and to the Greyhound publichouse, at Narton, near Kidderminster, in Worcestershire, where it was seen in the possession of ROBT. RAY on Whit- Monday, and is supposed to have been sold or turned out by him either in Worcestershire or Staffordshire. The tail of the Mare has most likely been docked, and her legs trimmed. She is just the description of Mare to be used in a carrier's van. ROBERT RAY stands committed for trial at the Gloucester Assizes, to be held on 3rd proximo, charged with stealing the above- named Mare. Also with stealing a Mare from Westbury- on- Trym, near Bristol. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the Mare and conviction of the thief. Information to be given to Chief Constable Sterne, Wilts, or to Deputy Chief Constable Woodman, Devizes.— Bow- street, July 26. Stolen from Breaston, near Derby, during the night of 18 th instant: a brown horse Pony,' 7 years old, 13 hands high, black legs, black short mane, black tail, rather Ion ® white saddle gall on back, and a burn 3caron breast, between the fore legs. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, 17, St. Mary's Gate, Derby.— Bow- street, July 21. Further information respecting the Horse, Cart, Harness, & c., stolen from Warfield Rectory, Berks, on the night of 21st ultimo, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 26th ult : the Horse and Harness have been recovered, and a warrant issued against a man who gave the name of W. CLARKE alias W. A. PALMER, for stealing same ; he is about 30 yrs! of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, thin face, sallow complexion^ fierce full eyes, rather light brown hair, no whiskers, small light ( sometimes dark) moustache, thin figure, and walks splay- footed; dressed in blue serge or light tweed suit, hard black hat, and patent leather boots : sometimes wears a light or dark ulster coat, has the appearance of a groom, appears fidgety, and keeps on tapping his leg with a whip, and last heard of in the neighbourhood of Limehouse and Bow Com- mon, London. The Cart has not yet been recovered, it baa been repainted dark blue, pricked out with light blue lines red underwork, pricked out with black. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Berkshire, Reading, or to Mr. Superintendent Millard, Cotinty Police Station, Wokingham' who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, July 22. Stolen from a field at Prescott, near Baschurch, curin- the night of 13th inst. : 10 Shropshire Down yearling Sheep Ewes and Wethers, no marks upon them ; the property of Mr Wm. Lester, of Walford, Baschurch. £ 10 reward will be paid for the apprehension and conviction of ths thief or thieves and recovery of the Sheep. Information to be given to Mr' Superintendent Gougli, Oswestry, or to Police Constable ( 50)' Charles worth, Baschurch, Shropshire,—- Bow- street, July 22. Stolen from a field at Llanrhydd, near Ruthin on the night of the 5th instant, the property of R. G. Johnson, Esq J. P. : a strong Donkey, 7 years of age, light colour, mane cut short, hair off near hiud leg through being fettered. Infor- mation tc be given to Mr. Superintendent Judge, Denbigh --- - . 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. July 26 or to Sergeant Jones, Police Station, Ruthin, Denbighshire. — Bow- street, July 22. Stolen from a meadow at Wateringcress, between 8 p. m. on 15th and 7 a. m. on 16th instant ; the property of Thomas Wood : a brown Mare, with black points, rising four years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, broom tail, slight scar on inside near foreleg, and both fore shoes oif. It was offered for sale in the Isle of Orney, Kent, and at Staplecross, Sussex, on 16th instant, by a man of the following description : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, full round face, light com- plexion and a few light whiskers, no moustache; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, light tweed trousers ( apparently shrunk from washing), hard felt hat, and was wearing spurs ; had the appearance of a farmers son. The mare ( which has not yet been recovered), had a sack on her back and had on a halter, no bridle, has been shod since stolen. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the mare and conviction of the thief. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, July 22. Found at Knowle, Bristol, on 30th ultimo : a dark bay cart Mare, aged, in good condition, about 15| hands high, black legs, long mane and tail, white star on forehead, and white streak down nose. Information to be given to Mr, Superintendent Drewett, Somerset Constabulary, Flax Bourton, Bristol, or to Sergeant Dewey, Knowle .— Bow- street, July 17. Description of CHARLES BRAZIER, charged on war- rant at Hastings, with stealing a Horse, Cart and Harness on 8th instant, ( since recovered) : about 24 years of age, rather- short and stout, brownish whiskers, black hair; dressed in black coat, black billy cock hat, black and white scarf round his neck, lightish trousers, and heavy nailed boots, is a fish- hawker, has resided with his father at Church St., Gravesend, and is well known in that neighbourhood. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex. — Bow- street, July 17. IARCEIY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Warwick Militia Barracks on 17th inst. Paymaster Sergeant JAMES HAMMOND, of the permanent staff of 1st Warwick Militia : charged with stealing £ 1 the moneys of Captain W. Blois, he has recently left the 92ud Highlanders ; he is 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes , heavy moustache and little if any whiskers ; dressed when last seen in a suit of pepper and salt tweed and hard black billy cock hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Frankton, Kenilworth, or to Inspector Yardley, Warwick, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 24. Stolen from Bracebridge, near Lincoln, from the dwelling- house of Jane Coupland, during the night of 10th instant, or early on morning of 11th instant : a pair of strong lace- up navvy Boots, nearly new, very thickly nailed, with two rows of square headed nails outside, and three rows of round headed ones in the middle, plated heels with leather rivetted inside, had brown leather laces in when stolen ; a white calico militia Shirt, marked ' R. N. L.'; a very old- fashioned brown silk Pocket- handkerchief, with a yellow border, and small yellow flowers; and two pairs of blue worsted Stockings,, with white toes and tops, the property of Joseph Dickinson. By a trampijigJabaurer who stated that he had got work at a brickyard, and obtained lodgings at the house for the night: he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, brown hair, little or no whiskers; dressed iu old round brown cloth cap ( supposed without a peak), drabett jacket, old dark cloth open- breasted vest, blue and white striped shirt, brown cctton cord trousers, and old strong low topped boots. Information to be given to Inspector Wilson, Kesteven Police Station, Lincoln.— Bow- street, July 24. Stolen : an old Wedding Ring; a diamond Ring, two of the diamonds missing, and the ring is cracked ; two gold Lockets, one book shape, one oval ; and a small Carpet Bag. By a tramping mason, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers, and small moustache ; dressed in fustian trousers and vest, dark coat, broad brimmed brown bowler hat, and striped flannel shirt. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Jeffs, North Petherton, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, July 24. Absconded on 16th instant, charged on warrant with stealing from a bedroom at St. Thomas ; the property of John Lowden : a silver Watch and silver Albert Chain, both recovered, found pledged : RICHARD HENDON, late 2nd Battalion 11th Regiment, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, scar under chin, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and slight moustache ; dressed in black coat and vest, light trousers, hard felt hat, and elastic side boots. Informa- tion to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- Street,- July 22. Stolen on the evening of 17th instant, from a lodging- house at Pershore : a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly- fronts ; and two silk Handkerchiefs, one a red with white spots, the other a ' Union Jack' pattern. Supposed by a man about 23 to 25 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, and sandy moustache ; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers and slop, and dark cloth cap. Stated he was a boiler maker looking for work, and may be found working at haymaking, having been so employed for a few days previous to the robbery. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stanton, Police Office, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 22. Stolen from the person at Clayton, Sussex, on 16th inst., a brown leather clasp Purse, containing 8s. and 2d. ; also half return Railway Ticket from Brighton to Burgess Hill. By a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fan- complexion, light hair and few whiskers, and a labourer ; dressed in light corded trousers, white slop, a cotton hanker- chief round his neck with red spots, and black felt hat. In- formation to be given at the. Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; or to Mr. Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Hayward's Heath, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 22. ALFRED HARRIS, advertised in Police Gazette of 10th instant, for stealing a Coat at Newbury, has been apprehended and sentenced to four calendar months hard labour, under tjie Criminal . justice Act. GEORGE NEWTON, advertised in Police Gazette of 15th May last, charged on a warrant with embezzlement, has not yet been apprehended. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Messrs. Wells & Co., for such information as shall lead to his apprehension. Supposed to be in London. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bennett, Newbury, Berks.— Bow- street, July 22. Stolen on 17th instant, from Old Swindon Church : about 50 Pieces of full size Sheet Music, arranged by Best, Stone, Stainer & Co.; Mendelshon's Preludes and Fuges, Ditto Sonatas ; 2 Concertos, by E. Prout; a Sonata, by ditto; a Sonata, by Dr. Sparke ; 2 bound Volumes of Bach's Organ Works, and King's Organ School, & c. ' George Whitehead' written on many of the pieces. Supposed by a man who obtained the key of the church door under pretence of seeing the interior, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in mixture cloth coat and trousers, black bowler hat, and of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent North, Swindon, Wiltshire. — Bow- street, July 22. Absconded on 13tli instant, stealing £ 16, from No. 26, Horton- street, Lewisham: FREDERICK HOLMES, alias DEAN, 16 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, freckled, and short light brown hair ; dressed in light tweed suit, coat very short, pockets on hips, seam round thigh of trousers, cheesecutter cap ; likely to be found in a seaport town endeavouring to obtain employment as steward or ordi- nary seaman on board a ship. He had in his possession a discharge from the ship ' Ajeca,' from Port Natal, aud a testimonial signed by Captain Thomas Curd. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, July 22.
