TVotlee.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the 3POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not he made. Stolen from the person on the morning of 1st instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 3397, plain dial, steel hands, engine- turned cases, and nearly new. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Cumming, Dumbarton. — Bow- street, July 5. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of 5th instant, the school at Kennington, Berks, was broken into and there were stolen therein, about 13s. in Silver Money, an old table Cloth, marked ' W. B.' and a pair of white Slippers, bound with red braid, two lads are suspected ; about 18 years of age rather short; both dressed in dark clothes and wore caps with peaks ; they left Radley Station by train at 7* 45 a. m. for Birmingham. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hedger, Berks Constabulary, Abingdon.— Bow- street, July 12. Between 3 and 4 a. m., on 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Edward Potter, Esq., Carlton, near Pontefract, was bur- glariously entered and stolen therein : a small gold Locket, engraved on both sides, attached to a plain gold Chain ; a pair of small gold dropper Ear- rings ; a gold Ring, with black enamel; a silver Locket, about inch long, plain on one side and fern leaves engraved on the other, and had a silver Chain attached ; a small silver Brooch, oblong shape ; a gold Ring, with 6 pearls and 6 turquoises; a silver Brooch with 6 leaves round shape ; a large silver Brooch with yellow stone in centre ; a black jet Chain, with Locket and Cameo ; a silver Brooch with two plain twists ; some Pen Knives, Stamps and Coppers ; a Purse, containing 14s. ; and a plain gold plated Brooch, rather large. By a man about 19 years of age, from 5 feet 2 to 5 inches high, ruddy complexion, light hair, rather full face ; dressed in a black jacket, light corduroy trousers, stiff felt hat, with round crown. £ 5 reward is offered on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Whincup, West Riding Consta- bnlary, Court House, Pontefract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 12. Between 8 a. m. and 6 p. m., on 1st instant, the cottage of John Miles, of Aston- on- Clun, was broken into and an old Purse, containing one Sixpence in Silver and 2| d. in Copper, 1 lb. of cooked Bacon, a small quantity of Bread, a Pincushion, bound with red velvet, and looking- glass on one side, were stolen therein. Two tramps were seen in the village about 11 a. m. same day, one about 5 feet 11 inches high, soldier- like appearance ; dressed in dark clothes. The other about 5 ft. 3 inches high ; dressed in dark short jacket, greasy card trousers and cap. The house of John Purslow, at Chavel, was broken into between 11 a. m. and 12 noon on 1st instant, and stolen therein : a patent lever silver hunting Watch, without glass, maker Crescent Gardens, Walthams, Mass America Watch Co., No. 847964; £ 3 10s. in Gold, 7s. 6d. Silver ; a Pen Knife, four blades, toitoisesliell handle; a pair of cloth Trousers, greyish plaid; a pair of elastic Braces; a double- breasted cloth Vest, blue, grey, and white small pattern, with black buttons ; a blue and white striped cotton Shirt; a new red and white Pocket- handkerchief; a pair of blue worsted Stockings, white tops and toes, mended at the heels with white yarn. Supposed by a tramp, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutish made, dirty appearance, little or no whiskers, and dark brown hair; dressed in duty dark coat, old boots, supposed cotton cord trousers, wide at the bottoms, old and dirty. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Howells, County Police Station, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Collis, Shropshire Constabulary, Pontesbury. • Bow- street, July 5. Stolen on the night of 2nd instant, from Lyulph's Tower, uear Patterdale : a grey Mare, 6 years old, 154- hands high, three parts bred, and in poor condition ; a saddle and a Cart Bridle. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, July 5. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field on the night of 23th ultimo, at Morton Oswestry : a dark brown horse Donkey ( cut), with a wart on the right hip ; the property of Elizabeth Williams. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswesty, Salop, or to Police Constable Hopwood ( 101), Pant, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, Ju'y 12. Stolen from a field at Yardley on 3rd irstant : a dark brown Horse, about 16 hands high, 5 years old, a white star oil forehead, near hock swoollen, and has a long stride when walking. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, or to inspector Prosser, Solihull, War- wickshire.— Bow- street, July 12. Stolen on 8th instant, from Hastings : an iron grey mare Cob, about 14 hands high, has recently foaled, - 1- 1- 1 marked on the left side of neck ; and a light spring Cart painted dark colour, maker Pankhurst, Westfield, patent axles ; also a set of brass mounted single Harness. By a man 26 to 28 years of age, short and stout, brownish whiskers and dark hair ; dressed in an old black coat, black billycock hat, light cord trousers, heavy lace- up boots, and appeared to be drunk at the time. Stolen from a field at Chavel, during the night of 7th ins. : a bay Mare, half- bred, 8 years old, 15 hands 3 ins. high, black legs, white star on forehead, a recent cut mark on the off ribs about 1 inch long, having been thrown down, and a little hair rubbed off right hock ; the property of Mrs. Jones, innkeeper. Stolen during the night of 6th instant, from Bucknell, Salop ; the property of Mr. Teague : two Ponies, a Mare and her Colt, both dark brown, the Colt rising 2 years old, and the Mare is blind on right side. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Caswell, County Constabulary Office, Church Stretton, Salop.— Bozo- street, July 12. Stolen on 4th instant, from a field at Rock Lane, Barnes : two fat roan Heifers, shorthorn bred, 4 years old, one has a swelling on near hind leg below the hock, weight about 90 stone.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, July 12. Stolen during the night of 7th instant, from a field at Pavement Gates, near Shrewsbury : a bay Mare, 8 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, white star on forehead, black legs, one eye swollen, hair rubbed off the back of the thigh of right liiud leg, a cut on the ribs, off side, from a fall, she is cross- bred, between a hack and a cart horse, in good condition, the property of Mrs. Jones, of the ' Pavement Gates' inn. Supposed by two men with a horse and trap. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Howells, County Police Office, Shrewsbury; or to Sergeant Collis, Pontesbury ; or to Police Constable Starkey, Bicton Heath, Salop.— Bow- street, July 12. SuJlen on the night of 2nd or morning of 3rd instant, from tie stable of C. R. Gilman, Esq., of Eaton, Norwich, a fine rrfd roan carriage Mare, 7 years old, 16 hands high, black jjpsints, white hind fetlocks, scar on off fetlock, high action, and switch tail; also a Saddle and Bridle. Also stolen on the same night from the stables of Messrs. , Makins, at Colney, near Norwich, a chesnut Mare, 15 hands high, aged, star on forehead, white fetlocks behind, scarred shoulders, in good condition, a high stepper, and fast action. These Mares are ascertained- to have passed through Newmarket and Bishop's Stortford together on 3rd instant. Description of two men who were seen at Bishop's Stortford on the evening of 3rd, one driving the aforesaid roan Mare in a dog cart painted blue, the other riding the aforesaid chesnut Mare : 1st, about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ius. high, full face, no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes and low hat. 2nd, about 30 years of age, dark complexion and whiskers ; dressed in dark suit of clothes, low ' shantee ' hat, and has the appearance of a groom. £ 50 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of these Mares, and to the conviction of the offender or offenders, or half the reward will be paid on the recovery of either Mare, and on furnishing information lead- ing to a conviction of the offender or offenders. Information tobe given or application to be made to Deputy Chief Con- stable Pigott, County Constabulary Office, or to Chief Constable Hitchman, Norwich.— Bow- street, July 10. Stolen from a field at Stanshope, Alstonefield, between 30th ultimo and 3rd instant ; the property of Mr, Ralph Beardmore : 9 white ewe Sheep, marked with red raddle across the loins, marked under the right ear, aud had been clipped ; also 10 Lambs, similarly marked. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. Beaidmore on recovery of the Sheep and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Police Constable Freeman, Metton, near Ashbourne, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, July 10. Description of a man charged with stealing a Horse, recovered, from Ellaston, near uttoxeter, on night of 4th instant; the property of Benjamin finney : lie i3 about 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather crooked nose,- round face, bald on top of head, stout build; fresh complexion, little or no whiskers ; dressed in old reversible macintosh, dark on one side, dark trousers, and black soft, felt hat ; he was last seen ou the morning of 5th instant, going in the direction of Ashbourne or Derby. Same description as that given of a man who stole a horsi from Littleover, ou 24tu ultimo, see Police Gazette of 3rd instant. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Police Office, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 8. Stolen during the night of 27th ultimo, from Mr. Fredk. Cox , at Cunningham Hill Farm, near St. Albans, a light bay- Horse, 5 years old, 16 hands high, white stripe down face, black legs and feet, long mane, and switch tail ; also a pony's Collar and Blinker Bridle, and a heavy cait Saddle with red lining, and stitched at each corner instead of brasses; a light spring Cart, painted dark brown, picked out with red, and has Mr. Cox's name on side ; also a Scotch Colly Dog, about 6 months old. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Inspector Penn, Herts Constabulary, Hatfield.— Bow- street, July 5. Stolen from a field in Allonshay, Somersetshire, during the night of 1st, or morning of 2nd instant: a rusty black mare Pony, 13 hands high, and white spot on near shoulder ; a light bay Horse, 3 years old, 15 hands high, aud white spot on near shoulder ; and a brown mare Colt, 1 year old, 14£ bauds high, one white leg behind, and tail cut. Information to be given to Mr. " Superintendent Gerity, Ilmiustcr, Somerset- shirs.— BoW- street, July 5, Cox. cart 2 Found at Barwacfe, near Coventry, on 22nd ultimo, a dark brown cart Horse, in good condition, white face, about 15 hands high, and tail has been cut. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Lapworth, Coventry, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, July 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on 8th instant, from the dwelling- house of John Adams, a pair of gold Ear- drops, flower pattern, and a small square gold Brooch, inlaid with hair. By an Irish woman who had been lodging there since 5th instant, 40 years of age, medium height, pale complexion, rather full face and stout; dressed in a brown dress, small black and white check cloak - with hood, black bonnet with a white flower round the front. Information to be given to the Head Constable, St. Albans, Herts.— Bow- street, Jlily 12. Stolen on 7th instant, from the sea- shore at Beachy Head, Eastbourne : a brown cloth double- breasted Overcoat with black velvet collar, cloth buttons, pockets at sides, and one ditto outside of left breast, lined with black cloth, and had a red and white cotton Handkerchief in one of the pockets. Supposed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers or moustache, medium figure, and had the appearance of a tramping bricklayer; dressed in dark tweed jacket,' corduroy trousers and vest, and black felt hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Newnliam, East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne.— Bow- street, July 12. Chtrged with stealing a Coat and Vest ( recovered) from a cottage at Copington, Somerset, on 8th instant: JOHN WILLIAMS, name supposed fictitious, stated he belonged to Exeter, and was seeking for work in a brickyard or a job at haymaking : he is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, sunburnt face, dark hair and whiskei s ; dressed in dark coat, moleskin trousers and vest, much worn. Was in com- pany with a short man, about 23 years of age, dark complexion,- and had the appearance of a jockey. Carried a whip stock in his hand. Stated he was going tb Wells, to see some friends. It is suspected they are making their way towards Bristol or Bath. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Jeffs, North Petherton, Somerset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 12. Absconded from Worksop, charged with stealing from the" premises of James Burley,". at | Worksop, £ 17 10s.; a silver lever Watch ; and gold Guard, with a gold Pencil- case attached : JOHN WILSON, a tramping painter or groom, supposed a native of Leeds or Halifax, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, black hair, parted in centre of forehead, sallow complexion, and very small face ; dressed in dark blue cap, with peak behind and before, straps np sides and ties at top, light grey round cloth coat, spotted cloth vest, patched in front, Scotch tweed trousers, strap and buckle behind, strong laced boots, with large nails, has been newly toe- capped ; he has a brother keeping a lodgingrouse in Nottingham, and it is probable he may seek employment as helper in stables, or at swing boats at village feasts. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holland, Police Station, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 12. Description of JOHN H. COLLIER, for whose appre- hension a witrrant has been granted, for having embezzled .£ 19 4s. 6d., between the 8th and 19th ultimo, the monies of his master Mr. William Whitehouse, brewer, Bloomfield- road, Princes- end, Staffordshire : al o it 40 years of age, about 5 ft. 7 inches high, light complexu n and hair, small whiskers and moustache, grey eyes, and slender build ; supposed dressed in loose snuff- coloured topcoat, black hard billy hat, and usually wears paper colhir and cuff?. Has a brother- in- law named James Turley, in Manchester, supposed travelling for soms liquor merchant there, also a wife and family at 162, Dudley- road, Wolverhampton. Information to be given to Chief 5 iperintendent McCrea, Bilston. or to Sergeant Ellis, Coseley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 12. Stolen from a dwelling house at Elsecar, near Barnsley, between 7 and 9 a. m. on 9th instant: one silver lever Watch, No. 5766, maker William Canudine, Parkgate, engine turned case, flowered silver dial, with gold numerals and seconds hand, had attached a long silver guard, curb pattern, about 5 ounces in weight; by a puddler, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, brown hair and slender build. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, July 12. Description of a man who gave the name of HIGH- FIELD, charged on a warrant with stealing on 29th ultimo, at Wellington, a shoemaker's Hammer, a pair of Pinchers, and a quantity of shoe leather Bottoms, the property of M. Bowyer, Wellington : he is a tramping shoemaker, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown curly hair, tuft of hair on chin, and no mous- tache ; dressed in black coat, plaid trousers, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, July 10. Stolen from Whittlesey on 4th instant, a pair of tailor's Scissors ( recovered), by a tramping tailor, 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, sunburnt fresli complexion, small blink- ing eyes, dark hair, light brown ( heavy) moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in hard black billycock hat, dark or black cloth coat ( too small for him), double- breasted cloth waist- coat, and dark cloth trousers with white narrow stripes. Has been in the Cavalry Branch of the Army working as a tailor, and is of medium figure. Information to be given to Inspector Collins, Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. - Bow- street, July 10. Absconded from Newbury, on 4th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing an Overcoat ( recovered) : ALFRED HARRIS, a carpenter, about 17 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rather dark complexion, and full brown eyes ; dressed when he absconded in dark jacket, trousers, and cap. Belongs to Berks Militia. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bennett, Berks Constabulary, Newbury, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, July 10. Description of FREDERICK STRAWBRIDGE, a watch and clock cleaner, native of Dawlish, who absconded from Teignmouth, on 24th ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing a silver Watch ( recovered) : he is 43 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, brown moustache, face and chin shaved clean, slight build, and is a little knock- kneed; dressed in blue serge jacket, black cloth vest and trousers, high poll black silk hat, and elastic- side boots ; has served 17 years in the Royal Marines, and has a pension of 8d. per day, he has h's tools with him, end will no doubt endeavour to work at his trade ; he is supposed to have been in London on 25th ultimo. Devo ® Constabulary, Chudieigh, or to Sergeant Bright, Police Station, Teignmowth, Devon, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 10. JAMES REID, advertised in the Police Gazette of 5th instant, as charged with stealing Money and Cheque at Whitchurch, Salop, has been apprehended, and the Money and Cheque recovered : he is committed for trial at the Salop Assizes on 23rd instant. Corrected description, 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, ruddy complexion, bla. ck hair, blue eyes, round visage, native of Ireland, has lost his left arm at the shoulder, and has been a soldier. Is suspected to have been previously convicted of felony. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Haines, or to Sergeant Lear, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, July 8. Stolen, on 4th instant, at Shrivenham : three striped cotton Shirts, one man's size, the other two boy's size. Sup- posed by two tramps, about 20 years of age, each dressed in dark jackets, and cord or moleskin trousers ; one had on a fur cap, the other a cloth cap with peak. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Reece, County Police Office, Faringdon, Berks.— Bow- street, July 8. Stolen from the Officers Quarters, Chatham Barracks, on 6th instant : a dark brown suit of Clothes, a silver half hunter Watch, maker Streeter, Bond street, on face, monogram with initials ' C. F. G.
