DESCRIPTION of a man ... custody at Kendal, Westmoreland, on a charge of doing grievous bodily < iarm. and who refuses to give any account of himself. It is supposed he is wanted' on some other charge, either in England or Ireland. It is requested that every inquiry be made by the Police, and information sont to the Inspector- General's Office, the Castle, Dublin, who holds a photograph of the man. He is rmnanded for seven days :— Gives the name of Michael Riley, a labourer, born in Ireland, but refuses to say where, 30 years of age, 6 feet 7J inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, scar on contre of right arm, left leg has been iniured with a piece of iron, scald mark on right leg, varicose veins on both legs, scar on loft side of head above eyebrow. WANTED liore, on a Sherift's Warrant for embezzle- ment of £ 1U4 during the month of May last, William Gray, a clerk, about 30 years of age, about 5 teet 10 inches high, slender made, dark hair, which is rather thin ; no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a dark tweed suit and round felt hat; generally wears green spectacles. His wife is said to reside in Callander ; has a brother named Robert, who about three years ago had a public- house in High- street, Edinburgh. Accused, who was clerk to a firm of joiners in Kelvin- street here, acted as factor for a property in St. Clair- street, and having collected the rents in May, absconded about 1st inst. It is believed that he will endeavour to get employment as a Clerk in a Joiner or Factor's offico. Information to A. M'Call, Chief Constable, Glasgow. Glasgow, 28th Juno, 1878. STOLEN, from the person of u man under the influence of drink, in this burgh, on the morning of Ist instant, a silver lever watch ( No. 3897), plain dial, ntid steel hands, engine- turned cases, maker's name unknown, nearly new. Police Officers are requested to make search and inquiry for the above, and if found or traced to the possession of any person to detain, and com- municate with tho Subscriber. DESCRIPTION of tho undermentioned, who is wanted on a Coroners warrant, charging him with the man- slaughter of Joseph Foster:— Patrick Brady, 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, dark hair, and sallow complexion, wears all his l> eard which is dark; dressed in dark clothes and black jerry hat; he is a native of Hill- street, Dundalk, county Louth, where his father resides, and is in the habit of working in breweries, attending engines.' DBSCMPTION of convict James Nicholson ( 58— 90 l"), who has broken fie conditions of his licence, in not reporting himself on change of residence; convicted at Armagh, county Armagh, at Quarter Sessions, on Ist July, 1874, for housebreaking and robbery, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 28 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Presbyterian, single, is a labourer; prison trade, stonecutter; born at Ballyctare, county Antrim; had no fixed place of residence before conviction; black hair, black eyes, black eyebrows, prominent sharp nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 7- J inches high, small scar on inside of right knee. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Convict Prison, on the 8Ist May, 1878, on an order of licence. He left his residence 16 Upper Exchange- street, Dublin, without reporting to the Police, and his present whereabouts cannot be ascerta'n ' d. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 6th Section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871, 84 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, June 27, 1878. ( 13683 M.— 22681 ) DESCRIPTION of convict John Burke alias James Murphy, ( 41— 13891), convicted at Thurles, county Tipperary, at Sessions, on 23rd October, 1872, for Burglary and larceny, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude :— 45 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, a laborer, bom at Castle Island, resided before con- viction near Nenagh,. where his friends reside; brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, short nose, large mouth inclined to right, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet, inches high, D. on left side, lost 2 upper front teeth, slight halt in right leg, burn mark on left shin. The above- named convict was released from Spike Island Prison, 30th April, 1878, on an order of licence. ; . i He left fhe South Dublin Union, on the 28rd May, 1878, and stated he was going to Kilkenny, where he has failed to report himself. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March. 1876, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 80th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 85 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the • chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 6, 1876. DESCRIPTION of a mare, the property of Laurence Meany, which was stolen from the lands of Bally- noran, parish of Ardglass, barony of Orrery and Kilmore, on the night of the 26th June, or morning" of 27th June, 1878:— A dark bay mare, 11 hands high, white spot on forehead, hair off fetlocks; value for about £ 3. DESCRIPTION of John Long, mother's surname Sullivan, native of Cork city, who stands charged with having, on t> e Btii instant, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Peter's, assaulted Catherine Murphy, by striking her with a piece of iron in the mouth, and knocking out five of her teeth:— emaciated, qnd worn- looking; blue eyes, regular nose, fair Complexion, thin face, nlight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair; wore a cap with peak, pea coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a turner. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.30 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, tho 3nd day of April, 1878, William Sydney of Leitrim John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally mUrdered at Cratlagh Wood, aJ> out three miles from millford, in the county of Donegal, by sqme persons Unknown : a large stone over the eye, inflicting a dangerous wound:— Pock- pitted, large whiskers, dark brown hair turning gray, wild looking gray eyes, cocked nose, fair complexion, long and careworn face; medium make, < » feet high, about 40 years of age; wore a gray tweed coat, corduroy tr iwsers, tweed vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Private Malcolm M'Kenzie, 93rd Highlanders, native of Sleat, Inverpess, Scotland, who stands charged with having, on the 27th or 28th June, 1878, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, stolen out of a hut in H lines, Curragh Camp, forty- t* o pounds in gold, the property of the Secretary of State for War:— Loose swinging gait and turns out his toes when walking, slight whiskers and moustache, brown eyes, slightly hooted' nose, fresh complexion, long face, slight make, 6 feet 1' 0$ inches high, about 23 years of age, dark brown hair, wore a clark tweed coat, trowserS', and vest". DESCRIPTION of Patrick Shea, mother's surname White, native of Mullinbeg, who stands charged with havinsr, on the night of the 80th June, 1878, in the barony of Iverk. parish of Fiddown, broken open a drawer and stolen therefrom three pounds, the pro- perty of his father, Thomas Shea, out of his dwelling- house at Mullinbeg:— Slightly pockmarked ; smart, respectable appearance; dark brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, six feet high, about twenty years of age, black hair, no beard or whiskers ; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest j had a dark pilot top coat, and a second suit of dark gray tweed ; is a farmer's son ; will endeavour to get to Liverpool; and from thence to Australia; warrant issued for his arrest. Ut; sc » rpTioN of Edward Butler, native of county dublin, who stands charged with having, on the Jpth day of June, 1878, in the barony of Tyrkennedy, parish of Enniskillen, embezzled the sum of £ 8 10s. belonging to the contractors for the Sligo, Leitrim, and Northern Counties Railway:— Very round- shouldered ; hands much disfigured, crooked fingers, projecting chin, and mouth fallen in in consequence of his having lost all his front teeth except one; speaks mumblingly; blue eyes, flat- bridged nose, weather- beaten brandy- faced complexion, round face, Stout make, 6 feet 8 inches high, about 60 years of age, dark gray hair ; wore a billycock hat, long blue ttput, moleskin trowsers, blue fronted vest, with long sleeves and black back; this man worked at Bray and fcin^ own. A warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Sub Inspector at Enniskillen. Payment ol the expense of the offender's transmission to Enniskillen has been guaranteed. Description of Patrick Raftery :— 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, modium make, dark sallow complexion, black hair, dark eyes, has a long flat nose, pointed at end, and a hardy thin face; wore brown jerry hat, dark pilot coat and dark trowsers and vest This man is a labourer, but being black and hardy, looks liko a nai'lof; he has never shaved, and little hair grows on his jaws; he has a small black moustache, and small black Yankee beard on chin; one of his hands has the mark of an injury received by the bursting of a gun, or by an accident from machinery; Jie wps in America and England for five years, and is smart in manner and appearance; looks about 30 Veprs of age. Tho special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley.) native of Knockgranagh, who stands charged with baying, on the 29th November, ult., ii)' th? barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone :— Down looking appearance, two upper froru ' teeth large and prominent, high chee/ c bones, large heavy lip*, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders i it is also stated that Hunt's left wrist is tattooed; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose,' sallow, complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches xhigh, about 27 or 28 years of age, black hair, small dark moustache ; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer.
