IO8 RETURNS RELATING TO PILOTS AND PILOTAGE, CORPORATION OF TRINITY HOUSE OF DEPTFORD STROND- FLEETWOOD AND BARROW- CO^ W. REGULATIONS for conducting the Pilot Service for the Harbours of Fleetwood and Barrow. 1. THE pilot stations on shore shall be at Fleetwood, Piel Island, and Barrow. 2. The pilots shall cruise within the litnits of the district, and while on a cruise shall not leave the pilot vessel except on duty. 3. The pilots not on duty shall attend daily at the pilot stations to which they belong, at such hours as may be fixed by the Sub- Com- missioners. 4. The pilots shall be placed on board vessels in'rotation, in order that every man may have a fair proportion of employment. 5. The master of the pilot vessel or the pilot in charge thereof shall, after every arrival from sea, enter in a book provided for the purpose at the pilot station to which the vessel belongs, the time of arrival of his vessel, with the names of the pilots on board, and before going out on a cruise shall report the time of his intended departure, together with the names of the pilots about to proceed to sea. 6. Every pilot shall provide himself with a pilot flag, three feet long by two feet broad, and on taking charge of a vessel, shall im mediately cause the same to be hoisted under the ensign, or on some other conspicuous place, but not on the fore royal masthead, and keep the same flying during the time he remains in charge. 7. Pilots shall keep the lead going while in charge of a vessel when under weigh, within the limits of the district. 8. Pilots are to exercise their utmost care in piloting vessels under their charge, and in case of accident occurring, whether by collision, loss of anchor, or grounding, shall immediately report the same to the Sub- Commissioners. 9. No pilot shall lay a vessel aground in the Harbour of Barrow without a written order from the officer in charge of such vessel. January 1877. 10. No pilot shall anchor a vessel within the prescribed limits of the fairway, nor moor a vessel to any buoy, not specially provided for the purpose. 11. Every pilot shall obey the orders of the harbour masters and pier masters relative to the docking or removing of any vessel under his charge. 12. Every pilot shall pay one- fifth of the amount he shall receive for pilotage of vessels for the maintenance of the pilot vessels on the station. 13. In the event of there being at any time an insufficient number of pilots available to take charge of vessels which may arrive, a pilot having charge of a vessel is authorised to lead another vessel, and shall for such service be entitled to payment of the pilotage of both vessels. 14. Every pilot vessel shall be well found with masts, rigging, sails, anchors, cables, and every necessary, and shall be distinguished as prescribed by the 346th section of the Act 17 & 18 Vict. c. 104, and have the number of such vessel with the letters F. or B. painted black on the mainsail and trysail thereof in letters and figures not less than ux feet in length, and of proportionate breadth. 15. No pilot vessel shall carry to sea, for the purpose of piloting, any person not duly licensed, nor any pilot whose license has been suspended. 16. Complaints of neglect of duty on the part of the pilots are to be made to the Sub- Commissioners. 17. The Sub- Commissioners are to determine whether compensa- tion for extra services is due to pilots applying for the same. Robin Allen, Secretary.
