Absconded from Ipswich on 29th ultimo, charged on a • warrant with stealing from the person of Edgar Soar, on 22nd ultimo, six ,£ 10 Nates, twhich lie cashed the same day : ROBERT NEWTON SHAWE KERSEY, a clerk, late'in the employ of Messrs. Haggar, plumbers and gas fitters, Lower King- street, Ipswich ; he is about 4o years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, dark brown hair and whiskers round face, very blotchy, caused through drink, stoops a little in walking, ami it is likely lie will be seen in public- houses drinking heavily. Is supposed to ba carrying a new bag. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- st., July 3. Stolen from the person at Burton- on- Trent Horticultural Show, on 26th ultimo : a gold lever Watch, No. 1088, gold dial, and constructed with a running barrel. Stolen from the person at the Beverley race- course, on 19th and 20th instant : A gentleman's gokl keyless English Lever, No. 15124, maker John Bennett, London, black numerals, engine- turned cases. A reward of £ 10 will be paid on conviction and recovery of the watch. A gold Lever, No. 3684, maker William Howard,' London. A patent silver Lever, No. 32303, makers Jacobs and Lucas, Whitefriargate, Hull. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, July 5-. HENRY COWUP, alias COWOP, advertised in the Police Gazette of 1st instant, for burglary at Northen Hetchells, is apprehended. In addition to the £ 5 Note and bunch of Keys, there was stolen a Pocket Book containing memoranda of Estimates for Building. & c. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hindley, County Police, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Jithj 3. About i past 1 a. m., on 26th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Ann Jones, the Victoria Inn, Victoria- street, Crewe, was burglariously entered by two men, one about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, and long bushy whiskers; dressed in a dark rouud jacket, and hard felt hat. The other is short and stout. Joseph Derbyshire, an inmate, was assaulted by these two men before they made their escape by the back door. He was also stabbed' in the breast by the first- mentioned man, and he can identify him. Information to be given to Acting Superintendent Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 1. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. Between 8 a. m. and 6 p. m., on 1st instant, the cottage of John Miles, of Aston- on- Clun, was broken into and an old Purse, containing one Sixpence in Silver and 2id. in Copper, 1 lb of cooked Bacon, a small quantity of Bread, a Pincushion, hound with red velvet, aucl looking- glass on one side, were stolen therein. Two tramps were seen in the village about 11 am same day, one about 5 feet 11 inches high, soldier- like aupearance ; dressed in dark clothes. The other about 5 ft. 3 inches high ; dressed in dark short jacket, greasy cord trousers and cap" Information to be given at the County Consta- bulary Office, Aston- on- Clun, Halo?.— Bow- street, Jidy 5. Bow- street, July 5. condition ; a saddle and a Cart HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of 27th ultimo, from Mr. Fredk. Cox, at Cunningham Hill Farm, near St. Albans, a light bay cart Horse, 5 years old, 16 hands high, white stripe down face, black legs and feet, long mane, and switch tail; also a pony's Collar and Blinker Bridle, and a heavy cart Saddle with red lining, and stitched at each coiner instead of brasses ; a light spring Cart, painted dark brown, picked out with red, and has Mr. Cox's name on side ; also a Scotch tColly Dog, about 6 months old. A reward of £ 20 will lie paid to any person who will give sucli information as will lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Inspector Penn, Herts Constabulary, Hatfield.— Bow- street, July 5. Stolen from a field in Allonshay, Somersetshire, during the night of 1st, or morning of 2nd instant: a rusty black mare Ponv, 13 hands high, and white spot on near shoulder ; a light bay Horse, 3 years old, 15 hands high, and white spot on near shoulder ; and a brown mare Colt, 1 year old, 14J hands high, one white leg behind, and tail cut. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gerity, Ilminster, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, July 5. Found at Barnacle, near Coventry, on 22nd ultimo, a dark brown cart Horse, in good condition, white face, about 15 hands hip; h, and tail has been cut. Information to he given to Mr. Superintendent Lapworth, Coventry, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, July 5. Stolen from a field in Littleover, during the night of 24th ultimo, a dark grey horse t'ouy, 5 years old, 14 hands 1 or 2 inches high, small splint on near foreleg, shoit mane, switch tail, hair chafed under neck as if from collar. Traced to Marston Montgomery in possession of a man. about 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 inches' high, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers ; dressed in long dark coat, dark trousers, and black soft felt hat ; bad the appearance of a farmer, and was making for the direction of Congleton, Leek, or Macclesfield. £ b reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the Horse. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief' Constable; 17, St. Mary's Gate, Derby. — Bow- street, Jidy 1. Stolen on 26th ultimo, from Waterloo- street, Limehouse : a grey Mare, thickly set, wart on left side of head, and scar oif leg near the hoof. By a boy 12 years of age, fair, and light hair ; dressed in holland jacket, grey trousers, and cloth cap. Had with him a black dog.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, July 1. Description of JAMES CAMBR1DGE, supposed JOHN, charged with stealing 6 Fowls ( recovered), on the night of 17th ultimo, from Pensford, Somerset, the property of Henry Price : lie is 48 years of age, nearly ( i feet high, sallow com- plexion, daik brown hair, very long beard, turning grey ; dressed in a soft black bowler hat, mixed suit of grey, which are rather dirty. Is a superannuated officer from Cardiff police force, and supposed to have gone into Glamorgausl ire or some part of Wales. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Unison, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 1. Stolen on 25th instant, from New Park- road, Brixton : a dark chesnut Mare, 11 hands 2 or 3 inches high, hair rubbed off on the off- side of head, wind spavins in hocks, and a white heel; a riding Saddle and Bridle with blinkers. Supposed by three man : 1st, 5 feet 8 inches high, and thin ; dressed in dark tweed suit, and round felt hat; 2nd, short and stout ; dressed in dark clothes, and soft hat. 3rd cannot be identified. — Metropolitan Police, W Division, June 28. Stolen from a stable between 9* 30 p. m. " on 2Mh, and 6- 30 am, 26th instant; the property of Mr. Chas. Maylon, miller, of Willingale Doe : a light grey Mare,. aged, switch tail, 16 hands high, fired on fore off leg, Ihre- scars on near rump, in good condition, and valued at £$&. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epning, or to Inspector robinson, Police Station, Oiigar, Essex,— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen from a field between Middleton and Ashbourne, durmg the night of 25th instant: a red and'white milk Cow,, large bag, giving ten quarts at a meal, 12 years- old, and long thick horns. £ 1 reward is offered on convietion of offender- or offenders. Information to be given to Mr.. Superintendent' Sharpe, Police Station, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.— Brno- street, June 28. Stolen on 21st instant, from the stables- of. warfield. Rectory, Berks : a black nag Horse, 7 years old, 15 hands high, white blaze down face, and liind feet white ; a set of plated shaft Harness, in good repair; a light Spring Cart, painted black, and lined with red stripe ; two. small blue carriage Cushions ; a light brown Horsecloth, with red binding ; and a blue livery Overcoat, metal, buttons with, crest of an eagle. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Millard, County Police Station, Wokingham, Berks. — Bow- street, June 26. Supposed stolen from a field at Jackfield,, on tlie nuht of 21st instant : a dark bay Pony, about 11 hands high," aged,, about 9 years old, black legs, very small head; and in good condition; the property of Mr. Wm. Jones, of. Jackfield. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Christie, County Constabulary, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- tt., June 26. Further information respecting the dask iron grev or blue roan Mare, stolen from West Harnham, near Salisbury, on the night of 7th iiistant; the property of' Mr. Roe, and advertised in Police Gazette of 11th instant: the Mare has- been traced to Broad Hinton, Cricklade, and Cirencester, going in the direction of Cheltenham, in tha possession of a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, red face., sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, and chin, shaved : dressed, in a brown coat, with pockets at sides, dark close- fitting: trousers, and vest, same material, brown leather gaiters, and hard bowler hat. He carried a light coloured macintosh on ht3 arm. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will le; ul to the . racevery of the Mare atld'conviction of the thief. Stolen from a field in South Maskham, Nottingham- between 7 a. m. aud 7 p. m., on 1st iust;* at: a light bay Horse, about half- bred, 4 years old, 15^ hands high, with white- star o: i forehead, aud one white hind fetlock, the property of Mr,. Edward Greenberry. £ 5 reward will be paid to any one giving information leading to the recovery of the horse, arid conviction of offender or offenders. Information to be- given to Mr. Superintendent Hallam, County Police Station, Newai k, Nottingham. — Bow street, June 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a lodging- hoire'at Whitchurch, Salop, on the. evening of 2nd instant: four £ 6 Notes, J20 in Gold, and a Cheque on the North and South Wales Bank, Chester, for £ 9 7s. Od. j payable to John Murphy from James Hughes. By JAMES READ, au Irish drover, 60 years of stge, uearly 6 feet high, ruddy complexion, no whiskers, and has lost left arm at the shoulder ; dressed in a long black livery coat with brass buttons, cord trousers, and old soft black hat, aud is a native of Comley, near Newry, Ireland. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Haines, or to Sergeant Lear, Whitchurch, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bcw- street, July 5. Description of JOSEPH TIDY, charged on warrant with embezzlement : lie is about 20 years of age, about 5 fee£ 4 inches high, fair complexion, small light whiskers, pale face, has been a draper's porter. Information to be given to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 5. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing a basket of plaster Ornaments and 10s. in Money, the property of hU master: GOVANIMATTEO BASTIANI, an Italian, 18 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high black hair coming down very low oi. the forehead, b'ack downy moustache; dressed in a dark 1 rown coat with velvet collar, black and white plaid trousers, aud waistcoat supposed to be of the same material, and c'oth tourist hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Prothero, Chief Constables Office, Carnarvon.— Bow- street, July 3. Description of THOMAS BUTLER, a journeyman butcher, who absconded on 14th ultimo, charged with having embezzled various sums of money, the property of his master. Mr. Mark Wells, at East Ilsley : he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, rather dark sallow conv plexion, and long features, grey eyes, slight figure, walks rather lame with left kg ; a native of East Ilsley, Berks; dressed in a light tweed coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, soft black hat, aud low shoes. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street', July 3. Stolen between 6 and 11 p. m. on 29th ultimo : from the White Horse Inn, Brigg : 7 yards of blue and white check linnen Shirting, cut up ready to be made into two shirts ; the property of Thomos Marriott. Supposed by a woman about 30 year's of age, and about 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in a. brown dress, dirty plaid shawl, and dark hat with a dark blue feithcrin it; has gipsy appearance. Abr. eouded, charged on a sheriff's warrant with embezzle- ment of J104, during May last : WILLIAM GRAY, a clerk, about 30 rears of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, slender 2 POLICE GAZETTE. June 14 made, dark hair, which is rather thin, no whiskers or maus- taohe ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, and round felt hat, generally wears green spectacles ; his wife is said to reside in Callander, has a brother who about 3 years ago had a public- house in High- street, Edinburgh ; it is believed that he will endeavour to get employment as a clerk in a joiner or factors office. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow.— Bow- street, July 3. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Aysgarth, on 27th ult. : a blue dou ble- breasted military Top- coat, white metal buttons, crest— an oak- tree, red lining, and bound round with red braid. Supposed by a man about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, red face, and dark hair ; he performs tricks in public- houses. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Alderson, Leyburn, North riding of York- shire Constabulary.— Bow- street, July 1. Description of THOMAS KILBURN, relieving officer of the Daventry Union, who absconded about-. 16 th ultimo, charged with embezzling various sums of Money, the pro- perty of the Guardians of the said Union : 58 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, grey hair and whiskers, meeting under the chin, grey eyes, fresh complexion, roman nose, and of good address, Information to be given to Head Constable Foster, Daventry, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 1. Stolen on 27th ultimo, from 29, Observatory- street, Oxford, the property of Thomas Johnson : a black frock Coat and Waistcoat; a tweed Jacket and . Trousers to match ; a pair of light tweed Trousers; a white Waistcoat ; a green carpet Bag ; an akiminium Guard; two Pocket- handkerchiefs; a pair of kid Gloves ; an alpaca Umbrella ; a leather Purse ; an ivory handle Pocket Knife, consisting of pen and pencil holder, with initials, and two or three books of gold leaf. By a man, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark moustache, and very little whiskers; dressed in dark jacket and waistcoat, brown trousers, and hard felt hat; carries a sniall black leather bag, and stated he was a cabinetmaker and upholsterer. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, July 1. Description of JOHN PENRY, late of Cheltenham, Llaneily, Breconshire, labourer, charged on " Warrant with embezzlement: about 33 years of age, 5 feet inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, proportionate build, of slovenly appearance, and has a scar on front of left thigh ; generally dressed as a poor labourer, and a native of Herefordshire, supposed ( Ewias Harold). Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Evans, Breconshire Constabu- lary, Crickhowell, or to Sergeant Joseph, Brynmawr Police Station, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, June 28. Absconded from Thatchara, charged on a wan- ant with stealing „-£ 21 10s. in Gold, and 19s. lOd. in Silver; the monies of Henry Newport : JOHN ALDRIDGE, 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sunburnt complexion, full face, fair hair, rather stout figure, scar on forehead, Indiany ink marks on two fingers of one hand, walks npwright, a labourer, and a native of Burghfield, near Reading ; dressed when he absconded in white slop, dark striped trousers, torn at one knee, Gld boots much worn, and black billycock, hat. Was traced from Midgham Station to Reading by the first up train on 21th instant. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Bennett, Berks Constabulary, Newberry, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of JOHN ELIOTT, of Mortimer, Berks, charged with fowl stealing and assaulting P. O. William Hearing, on 24th instant: lie is about 43 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, powerfully built, fresh complexion, dark hair, cut short, turning grey, clean shaved ; dressed in a dark pilot coat, grey vest, black cloth trousers, soft black billycock hat, red handkerchief round neck, and lace- up boots ; his clothes supposed to be bloodstained from a cut across his forehead, received while straggling with the constable. In- formation to be given to Inspector Pocoek, County Police Station, Reading," Berks, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen about 3 a. m. on 24tli instant, from the Alexander public- house, St. Aiban's : a pair of man's elastic side Boots ; a black cloth Jacket, trimmed with fringe round the bottom ; two black straw Hats ( women's), one trimmed with roses and scarlet feather, the other trimmed with black up the side. By a man who slept in the house, about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 5 inches high, brown hair, whiskers and moustache, inclined to sandy ; dressed in a black alpaca coat, dark mixture trousers and vest, black deerstalker hat, and side- spring boots. Infor- mation to be given to the Head Constable, City Police, St. Albans, Hertfordshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen between. 10 p. m. 16th and 3 p. m. 23rd instant, from the dwelling- house of James Williams, Abergavenny, the property of Thomas Morris : a gold Geneva lever open- face Watch", white dial, sunk seconds, jewelled in 10 holes, Brega balance spring, plain case, with horse's head engraved in middle, aud ' Thomas Morris' on inside of case, a gold albert Chain attached ; a black cloth double- baeasted Waist- coat ; and a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly fronts, and lined with white calico. By ARTHUR HACKETT, a brewer's labourer, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, pro- portionate figure, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, and whiskers on side of face ; dressed in a suit of light grey clothes, and black bowler hat. Respectable appearance. Supposed to belong to Burton- on- Trent, where his father resides. Left Abergavenny by train on 20th, for Euston Station. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, o;- to Mr. Superintendent Freeman, County Constabulary, Abergavenny, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Mow- street, June 26. Description of MARY ANN CATT, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 7 in Gold, the monies of her father, from High Bank, Ore, Sussex : she is 19 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, slight figure, a servant; dressed in a long black jacket, trimmed with black fur, light felt hat, with a red rose in front, and black dress ; she left her father's house in company of a woman named Mary Burton, who leads a gay life : she has a child with her, about 2 years old, 28 years of age, 5 feet high, dark hair and eyes, slight figure, and a native of Hastings ; dressed in black, sometimes has got a light dress ; supposed to be in the neigh- bourhood of Forest Hill, London, or Brighton. Information to ba given to Mr. Superintendent Dennis, Guestling, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen from Middlesbrouph, on 7th instant: a silver lever Watch and Chain ( recovered). By JOSEPH JURY, alias KING, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high/ hazel eyes, Mack hair, swarthy complexion, long thin face, long nose, arms and - sn- ists tattooed with figures of females, ships, flags, bracelets, & c. ; dressed in a long dark rough top coat, four pockets - outside, old grey trousers, and black billycock hat. He is » native of Kent, and has resided at Greenwich, Gravesend, and other parts of London. Sometimes works as a labourer in shipyards, but for the last few years has been mostly employed about theatres and music halls.
