Kotice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* " Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of anv article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed'to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in the slakes adjoining the highway, near the Metal Bridge, between Hartlepool and Middleton, about 3 p. m. on 10th instant : the dead Body of a newly- born female Child, wrapped up and sewed with white thread in an old brown striped stuff pannier or polonaise ; the dark stripe is broadei than the light one ; the waistband is made of black and white winsey. A postmortem [ examination was made on 12th instant, when it was found that the child had been born alive. An adjourned inquest will be held on 17th inst. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Marley, Police Office, West Hartlepool, Durham.— Bow- street, June 17. Found on the evening of 12 th instant, in a plantation at Godley, Cheshire, the dead Body of a female infant; was in fifth month of gestation and a premature birth, supposed to be brought on by a drug ; had an incised wound on left jaw, and both legs cut off at the knee ; was wrapped in the cover of a chair seat, old fashioned furniture print, and two pieces of newspapers, one the London ' Standard,' dated Nov. 23, 1877, and the other a London paper, dated Nov. 24, 1877. Supposed to have been thrown in the plantation a very short time pre- vious to it being found, as the papers were dry, heavy rain having fallen during the day. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Edwardes, Hyde, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 17. On 3rd instant the dead Body of a full- grown newly- born female Child, wrapped up in a piece of an old calico apron, with a patch in corner and a small one near the centre, and a piece of sacking, was found in the Birmingham and Warwick Canal, near Adderley- street, Birmingham. The Coroner's jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Tvr„ w chief of Police, Birmingham. — Bow- street, Major Bond, June 14. FORGERY. ARTHUR PLATT, described in Police Gazette of 10th ultimo, passing under the name of SIDNEY ANDERSON, forged and uttered a cheque signed ' H. Hargreaves,' on 30th ultimo, at Derby, and absconded ; he is now wearing a moustache, and dressed in grey suit. Information to be < nven to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scot- land Yard.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, June 14. breaking, at Little Hurdley, near Churchstoke, on 14th inst., and advertised in Police Gazette of 17th instant, stolen : a silver pair- cased verge Watch, No. 654, maker Thomas Wm Hay, Salop, on name plate, private No. 9128, and cross marked on inside case, small bullseye glass, small figures, cases hard worn and loose, swivel pin broken, and a piece of old knitting needle put in, with the ends turned towards the watch, swivel hard worn; old steel Chain, curb pattern, 2 Keys attached, small ring broken off one ; £ 1 lis. Id. in Money ; two Pocket Knives, one with two blades, large blade broad at point, black and white haft; the other has the large blade broken, rough buckhorn haft; and an old pair of white twill Braces, bound with French tape. Supposed by two men, one about 27 years of age, dark complexion, thin face, whis- kers inclined to be sandy ; dressed in old dark grey coat, white slop under, cord trousers, jimcrow hat; the other about 20 years of age, swarthy complexion, little whiskers ; dressed in a white slop, cord trousers, and jimcrow hat. Stolen on 6th instant, from 15, Courtfield- gardens, South Kensington : six gold Rings, one diamond hoop ( set five diamonds), one ruby hoop ( five stones), one triple ( set diamond and sapphires), one plain gipsy ( three diamonds), one mourning (' In memory of Ann Pickett, died ) 842/ engraved inside), one plain massive keeper; a lady's gold keyless half- hunting Watch, maker ' Streeter,' a gold Chain, two drop pieces ( balls at end) attached ; a bunch of gold Trinkets, consisting of a gold and enamel Pencil- case ( maker ' Thornhill'), a ball ( open with compass), a small plain Locket, American half dollar Piece, about 3 inches of fine gold Chain, boar's head, a Bugle ( 2 ins. long, used as a whistle, and Seal ( letter ' A.'); a large plain gold Locket, raised monogram ' A. M. P.,' portraits of two children inside; a gold Thimble, ' A.' in old English engraved thereon ; a set of pale pink coral Studs and Solitaires, crescent shape; three imitation pearl Studs, mounted in gold ; a pair imitation opal and diamond Ear rings, in leather case; a pair fancy goid Ear- rings, raised filigree work ; a round crystal Ear- ring, set in Gold ; two Bracelets, one plain gold band ( with buckle), one wide plain silver ( with raised balls set in centre) ; a silver Necklace, with ball pendant; an imitation coral Necklace, with Maltese Cross attached ; a pair of Ear- rings and Comb, pattern raised roses, all to match ; three gold Studs and two Links, set small turquoise and diamonds, in leather case ; and a Sovereign. ( Burglary).— Metropolitan Police, T Division, June 19. Stolen by means of housebreaking between 9 and 10 a. m. on 13tli instant, in folkington, the property of Richard Jennings : a plated silver Albert Chain, with Albert Key attached, the pipe of the key is broken. By a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, full sandy whiskers and moustache, proportionate figure ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, and hard black felt hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex.— Bow- street, June 17. Stolen from a public- house at Great Lever, between 11 p. m. on 10th and 5 a. m. on 11th instant : a blue and white striped cotton Shirt; five white Hslland Aprons : two red and white cotton Handkerchiefs; a flowered white linen Table- cloth; and a white cotton Chemise. Supposed by a tramp who it is thought will be wearing the stolen shirt, as a dirty old white shirt was left behind. Entrance effected by a back window, which was left unsecured. Stolen from the person in Preston on 13th instant: a silver lever Watch, chronometer balance, No. 15234, maker Peter Dickinson, Preston ; also a gentleman's gold hoop Ring with crown on top. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, on 10th instant, at Norton, near Worcester; the property of George Hughes : a German silver Watch ; a large old- fashioned silver Watch : a small silver double- cased Geneva Watch ; a long silver watch Chain ; a gold Ring, broken; a suit of black Clothes „ suit of grey mixture Clothes, new; and a cotton Shht', blue and red siipes. By THOMAS RUDGE, 29 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very fresh complexion, hght hai , blue eye, has lost the left, and stout build ; when last seen was wearing the grey mixture Suit. Will probably seek work Ta navvy or farm labourer. Has been several times con- victed of felony and poaching, and has served a term of penal servitude. Found at Fair Oak, Croxton, on 6th instant: a dark brown mare Pony, with full mane and tail, aged, about 11 hands high, burn mark on left shoulder, and a few white hairs on left fore leg. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Crisp, Police Office, Stone, or to Sergeant Dix, Ashley, near Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen from a field at Thorpe, near Ashbourne, sometime between 8th and 13th instant: six ewe Sheep and seven Lambs, the sheep are marked with pitch and ruddle on right hip, the property of Mr. Thomas Gould. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Ashbourne, Derby- shire.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen from Bilson Green, near Cinderford, Gloucester- shire, about 4th instant : a 2- year old dark brown mare Pony, about 12£ hands high, in good condition, star on forehead, white mark across the nostril, tail cropped near the hocks, letter ' T' stamped in hoofs, and newly shod. £- 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to its recovery. Stolen from a field at North Petherton, on the night of 11th instant: a brown hackney Horse, aged, 15 hands high, and has three white legs. Value about £ 20. Stolen during the night of 13th instant, from a field at Lucknow, Short Heath, Willenhall, the property of Samuel Fenn : a light brown cart Horse, aged, 16 hands high, in low condition, long tail, and white star on forehead. Supposed stolen from a field at Combe Hay, on lOtli instant: a bay Mare, well bred, about 16 hands high, and aged ; has a scar on right pin bone, causing her slightly to limp, and shoes off hind feet. Stolen from, a field at Yardley during the night of 10th instant : a bay cart Horse, aged, between 16 and 17 hands high, white hind fetlocks, white star on forehead, and in good condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, or to Inspector Prosser, Solihull, War- wickshire. — Bow- street, June 14. Stolen from a field at Dunwood Hall, Leek, about 4 a. m. on 10th instant: eight hog Sheep ( recovered) ; the property of Mr. Thomas Hulme. The Sheep were taken to Newcastle- under- Lyme and sold in the fair the same day by a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, no beard or whiskers, and of slender build ; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, cord trousers, soft sammy hat, and blue necktie, carried a blue pilot overcoat and whip, and had the appearance of a cattle dealer. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek:, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 14. Supposed stolen, from Tabley Park, Ley, Knutsford, about 4 p. m., on 11th instant, a dark brown Colt, 2 years old, three parte bred, black points, branded ' 68' on off fore hoof. A reward of £ 5, with all reasonable expenses, will be paid for its recovery and the apprehension of the thief or thieves. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Aston, Altrincham, or Sergeant Oldham, Knutsford, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 14. W*' Absconded from Winchester on 1st instant, charged with stealing a Donkey ( recovered); the property of Dean Cooper, of Botley, Hants : JAMES HARRIS, alias GINGER, about 40 3re?. rs of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, crooked nose, rather stoutly built, and attends all the principal fairs in Hants and Sussex a3 a drover. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fey, Hants Constabulary, Winchester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen from a stable on the night of 8th, or early on the morning of 9 th instant, from Greensted House, the property of Mrs. Mary Smith : a black Horse, 14 hands high, three white feet, white stripe down forehead, burnt mark on off side of head, saddle marked, and in good condition. Also a Waggonette, without hood, painted brown, broad lining, line lined, cushions merino, brown in- cloth, a piece of silver plate on back of door, stamped on ' Winchester,' odd cap on off front wheel, imitation wicker on sides ; 3 sets of silver plated Harness, one set nearly new, pony set marked ' W. S.' on winkers ; 5 riding Saddles; and a new Clipping Machine. £ Z0 reward will be paid to any person giving such informa- tion as shall lead to the conviction of the thief or thieves. LAWRENCE, for whose appre- hension a warrant has been granted, for having embezzled on 11th instant Monies belonging > o his master Mr. Wm. Walland, fly proprietor, High- street, Maidstone : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, square build, and of dirty appearance ; sup- posed dressed in black coat, light trousers, dirty white hand- kerchief, and high black hat; is a native of Haythorn, near Dover, Kent, and will be likely to apply for employment at stables and cab yards. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent. — Bow- street, June 21. Further particulars respecting a clerk who absconded, stealing J100, and circulated in Police Gazette of 7th instant: JOSEPH WATSON ; dressed in pepper- and- salt dust coat, largo dark plaid trousers, brown felt hat, flat top, button- up boots, and blue tops ; is known at Coventry, Brighton, Bir- mingham, and Maidenhead. Frequents hotels and races. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 20 will be paid by William B. Cranwell, No. 4, Finsbury- street, E. C., to aDy person or persons who shall give such information as will lead to his apprehension.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, June 21. Description cf HANNAH STUBBS, charged on warrant with stealing at Borrowash, on 17th instant, from a house where she was lodging, 3 pairs of Drawers, 2 white Skirts, 2 pieces of Dimity, a Chemise, a pair of linen Pillow- slips, a Sheet, a holland Apron, a brown ditto, a Jacket Body, a striped ditto, a Knife, a tea Canister, and a pair of Spectacles ; the propertv of Elizabeth Gill: sho is about 45 years of age. 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout make, eyes sunken, light com- plexion ; dressed in lilac print dress, black striped velvet cotton paletot, and dark bonnet. Is well known in Notting- ham and Derby, where she has been previously convicted. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, 17, St. Mary's Gate, Derby.— Bow- street, June 21". Absconded from Stirchley, Salop, on the 4th instant, charged with larceny : WILLIAM EGERTON, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather light complexion, light brown hair and moustache, and medium build; dressed in dark coat, white trousers, black cap, and wore clogs, very narrow on the June 21 POLICE GAZETTE. toes with plates. And JOHN EGERTON, 26 years of age. 5 feet 10. inches high, light brown hair, andelight whiskers"! and moustachedressed in blue coat, black trousers, billy-' cock hat, and wore low shoes. Stolen from the borough of Middlesbrough, on 19t! i inst.: £ 4 in Gold and Silver. By a girl, 15 years of age, fresh complexion, stoutly made, large scar on left arm, and a black mark on one of her front teeth; had with her a black velvet princess robe, trimmed with satin, black felt hat, with fur round, and a blue wing feather, a fawn- coloured straw hat, trimmed with drab silk and buckle. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street., June 21. Wanted, charged with housebreaking and theft of £ 1 or thereby of Copper Money, from a shop in Kelso, on the 9th March : ANDREW SCOTT, a tailor, 38 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, bushy whiskers, beard and moustache ; he was apprehended at Dunse on 10th instant, and is now in custody. JOHN GORDON, tai'or, native of Kelso, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair, hazel eyes, small black mous- tache, swarthy complexion, slender make ; dressed in dirty dark clothes, and cap with peak. Absconded from Horsham on 11th instant, charged ® n a warrant with stealing £ 22 10s., the monies of Mr. William Rowland : PHILIP CHILDS, a bricklayer's labourer, about 28 years of age, 6 feet high, light complexion, few whiskers on his chin, slight moustache, and has an impediment in his speech ; dressed in a white slop, moleskin trousers, double- breasted black vest, soft felt hat, and heavy boots; has worked at Hull and Leeds. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen between 4 and 10 p. m. on 17th instant, from a dwelling- house in Tollbridge Wells: a lady's gold Watch with gold face, made at Gloucester, has the initials ' F. A. K.' on the back; an old- fashioned gold Neck Chain, has been broken and secured again with black thread, and a new swivel. Supposed by a young man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather slim, and little or no whiskers ; dressed in a grey tourist suit, stiff round luit, and is of respectable appearance. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen during the night of 15th instant, from a bedroom at the ' White Bear' inn, Wrexham : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 42556. Supposed by a tailor who lodged at the inn that night, about 32 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh com- plexion, light brown curly hair, parted down centre, light brown moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in faded blue cloth coat and vest, brown tweed trousers, hard felt hat, and old elastic- side boots. He has been previously convicted in Shropshire, and Mold, Flintshire, and is supposed to be well known in Chester, he has also served in the 4th Regiment of Foot, from which he was discharged for bad conduct. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Police Office, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow street, June 19. Absconded on 15th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling the Monevs of his master, Mr. Chas. Whitworth, miller : WILLIAM PATTISON, clerk, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, small Llight whiskers and moustache, full hazel eyes, smart appearance, and walks erect; dressed in black hard hat, square cat frock coat, brown overcoat with brown velvet collar, and black cloth trousers States that he was formerly in the service of Halcombe and Co., sack contractors, Finsbury- square, London. Supposed gone to Birmingham or Man- chester. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, June 19. Absconded on 10th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 1760 in Gold ( principallv Sidney Mint): WALTER SMITH or SCHMIDT," a German, 43 years of age, 5 feet high, very fair hair, whiskers, and moustache, short sighted, wears spectacles, ruddy face, * pimpie on nose, speaks good English, with slight Foreign accent, large feet, walks flat- footed, and inclined to be bow- legged ; dressed in blue coat, grey trousers and vest, and soft grey felt hat. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Mr. F. Fisher, Zambuzycki Hotel, No. 6, America- square, on his apprehension and conviction and recovery of the Money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Inspector MoWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen from the Privateer public- house, Gravesend, on the evening of 10th instant : a 2- Guinea Piece, worn as a brooch. By a banjo player, about 30 years of age, short, no whiskers or moustache, and who was lodging in the house. Information to be given to Chief Constable Berry, Town Hall, Gravesend, Kent.— Bow- street, June 17. Description of a tramping shoemaker, a native of Dublin, charged with stealing a piece of sole Leather from a workshop at Faruworth, and since recovered : about 35 yeai s of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, stout build, rather siudy moustache, and whiskers shaved off; dressed in old shabby clothes, high soft black billycock hat, and very bad elastic- side boots. Was last seen about noon on 12th instant, going in the direction of Bolton. Has worked in Liverpool. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holland, County Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 17. Absconded from Oakengates, Salop, on 20th ultimo, charged with stealing on 18th ultimo, a quantity of horse Provender from the London and North Western Railway Station at Oakengates : EDWIN ASTBURY, about 50 yrs. of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair and whiskers all round his face, turning grey, medium build, and a native of Oakengates, Salop ; dressed, when last seen, in dark cloth suit, black billycock hat, and lace- up shoes ; is much addicted to drinking, well accustomed to horses, and will most likely seek employment as a horse driver. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Jones, Welling- ton, or to Sergeant Merricks, Oakengates, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 17. Description of JESSE MORRIS, a collier, native of Bedwoi th, chai ged with stealing a Watch from a boat: he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, slight moustache and whiskers, stout built ; has been convicted for felony at Swadlincote, Derby- shire, and Ashley, Leicestershire, has worked in tlae neighbor- hood of Polesworth, and at Clay Cross, as a oollier. No. of Watch 7205, silver, and has . a steel Chain with a Threepenny and Fourpenny Piece attached. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Palmer, Police Office, Rugby, Warwick- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 17. Description of a man who gave his name ROBERT ( EVANS or OWEN) STEPHENSON, about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionately made, broad shoulders, full face, high cheek bones, much sunburnt, auburn hair cut short, long whiskers aud moustache, shaved on chin, walks erect, and of military appearance. Stated he had been a soldier and had been in India in the 23rd Regt., and received a pension of £ 30 per annum ; he is dressed in a dirty serge jacket, brown cord trousers and vest, large top worsted cap, peak of same material, large black and white cravat, dirty and lace- up boots, smart active appearance; charged with stealing a silver Watch from the Saddle- room, at Llangattock Court, Crickhowell, Breconsliire, on 8th instant, which was pledged at Blaina, Monmouthshire, and since recovered. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Evans, Police Station, Crickhowell, Breconshire.— Bow- street, June 17. Absconded on 13th instant, charged with stealing £ 200, viz :— £ 100 in Gold, and £ 100 in £ 5 Bank of England Notes : ANGELO FALK, commonly called ANGY FALK, a Jew, a jeweller's assistant, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, very slight whiskers and moustache, grey eyes, long prominent nose, small scar from a cut on right cheek under the eye, slender build, thin features, walks quickly ; dressed when last seen in checked coat and vest, grey trousers, black hard billycock hat, and elastic- side boots, but it is probable he may have changed the same. Was born in Birmingham, but has resided in Newcastle for the last 12 years. He was convicted of larceny at Shrewsbury Sessions in July, 1852, and sentenced to 1 calendar month; at Ludlow Sessions, in October, 1852, sentenced to 1 week and 7 years penal servitude ; at Hereford Sessions, in September, 1860, sentenced to 3 calendar months; at Hereford Sessions, in March, 1861, sentenced to 4 years penal serv itude ; at Hereford Sessions, in July, 1865, sentenced to 7 years penal servitude; at Warwick, in August, 1872,. sentenced to 28 days ; and at Leicester Sessions, on 16tli October, 1872, he was again convicted of larceny, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision.
