During the night of 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Miss Elizabeth Adney, of Cresent- road, Wellington, was entered by means of breaking open the back window, and stolen : 2 black brocaded silk Dresses, one old- fashioned make ; a black silk Dress Piece, about 14 yards ; a silver tea caddy Spoon, marked ' A.'; a red coral Necklace ; a pair of red coral Bracelets ; a child's silver Spoon, Fork, and Knife, ivory handles, broken off and left behind ; 2 bunches of sma 1 Keys, about 10 in a bunch, one of the rings marked ' Matilda Wilton, Worcester.' Information to be given to Chief Super- intendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, May 3. MURDER AHD MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 3rd instant, the Body of a newly born male infant was found upon the sea beach, near Caroline- place, Hastings. It was sewn up in a bag made of sail canvas, and wrapped in a piece of old flannel, on the same day a coroner's inquest was held upon the body of tho said child, when a verdict of 4 Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. The articles in which the remains were found may be seen at the Bolice Office, Hastings, where it is requested that any information likely to lead to the discovery of the offender or offenders may be given to Chief Superintendent < Jlenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Mow- street, May G. Absconded on lst instant, charged with uttering a forged Cheque : ARTHUR PLATTS, footman, 22 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, cheeks puffed, dark brown hair and whiskers ( small), round shouldered, looks down when talking ; dressed in dark cut- away coat, dark vest and trousers, and high hat; his father resides at Eastwoodhay, near Newbury, Hants ; he has been in service at St. Neot's, Huntingdonshire. Shirt ( union) blue and white plaid • stripes; and a pair of lace- up Boots, brass lace holes and gutta percha soles. Description of RICHARD CRAGGS, tramping mill- wright or cartwright, charged on a warrant with stealing a grey Pony ( recovered) from a stable at the Buck Inn, Great Ay ton, on the morning of 7th instant: lie is about 53 years or age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pals complexion, thin face, high cheek bones, grey hair, and whiskers ; dressed in dark cord trousers, grey tweed coat and vest, soft black billycock hat, and old blucher boots. He is much addicted to drink, and frequents beer- honses and common lodging- houses. Has relatives in Newport, Salop, and Manches- ter, to which place be booked by train from Shrewsbury on the night of 2nd instant. He is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Portman- square, London, and may try to obtain a berth on board some vessel. Information to be given to Chief Constable Ogden, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen from the dwelling- house of J. Stephens, Stratford upon- Avon, on lst instant: aa open faced verge Watch, No. 13178, also private mark inside case ' 250' ; a silver Albert Chain, with a quarter Rupee, half Diem, and other small Coins attached ; a white Vest; a dark Vest; three Collars ; a Necktie ; and a pair of Drawers. By a man, about 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair, slight whis- kers and moustache ; dressed in dark jacket, small plaid trousers, and elastic- side boots, wore a blue necktie, and round crown black felt hat; he obtained lodging at the house of Stephens the day previous, by representing that he was going to work for a watchmaker in the town. Absconded on 22nd ultimo : ROBERT MULLER, alias JOHN MILNER, a Swiss watchmaker, about 40 years of age. 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, heavy moustache, whiskers shaved off, full eyes, with a peculiar twitching ; dressed in hard felt hat, light grey thin melton overcoat, without lining, light plaid trousers and vest to match ; charged on a warrant with stealing a silver Geneva open face stop Watch, with centre seconds hand, No. 18882 ; a lady's small gold Geneva, ' 18 K.', No. 77304; a lady's larger gold Geneva, ' 14 K.', No. 72079. Information to be given to Head Constable Pratt, City Police, Chichester, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 8. Absconded from Loughton, charged with larceny _ at Loughton, near Stony Stratford, on the night of 20th ultimo ( property recovered): GEORGE HARRISON, alias STAFFORD, a tip driver, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, walks erect, fresh complexion, rather long face, brown hair and whiskers, chin and upper lip shaved ; dressed in dark coat and vest, soft black hat, and moleskin or fustian trousers. Had with him a fawn- coloured lurcher dog, with grey muzzle. JOHN DAVIS, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, clean shaved ; dressed in dirty brown slop and trousers, Scotch cap with peak, and button on top same material as cap. Supposed working on the new line of railway between Northampton and Rugby, or on the Kettering and Monton Railway. Information to be given to Inspector Webb, Stony Stratford, Bucks, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street,' May 6, Description of CHARLES F. AMES, a tailor, and secretary to the Tailor's Society, late of Malvern, charged with larceny : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair and moustache, no whiskers, rather long straight nose, thin lips, slightly marked with smallpox, large feet, and when walking carries his head a little forward ; dressed in grey plaid suit and silk hat, and is a native of Brighton. Last heard of in Birmingham on 23rd ultimo. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Turner, Police Office, Upton - on- Severn, or to Inspector Jeftery, Police Office, Malvern, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.-— Bow- street, May 6. Stolen on 2nd instant, £ 980 in Bank of England Notes, by means of the confidence trick. By two men : one 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair and beard ( turning grey) ; dressed in bluo frock coat, grey tight- fitting trousers, heavy boots,- high broad- brimmed hat, long linked watch chain; the other 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow - complexion, thin face, brown whiskers, beard, and moustache, dark clothes, and soft felt liat. Particulars of notes : nine £ 100, Nos. 32282/ 8, dated 13th August, 1877; four £ 20, Nos. 35021/ 4, dated 12th October, 1877. Informa- tion to be given at the Criminal Investigation Department, Great Scotland Yard, Loudon, S. W.— Bow- street, May 6. Absconded from Ackleton, on 2nd instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 5, the money of James Trumper : a labourer, 21 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion black hair, rather inclined to curl; dressed when last seen in dirty white slop, cord trousers, and billycock hat; a native of Newport, Salop. Was sent from that workhouse to Tuall School, in 18*$, which place he absconded from in 1870. Is well accustomed to horses. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Christie, Bridgnorth, Salop. — Bow- street, May 6. Description of GEORGE JAUNCEY, otherwise GEO. JAUNTRY, who absconded from Ashby- de- la- Zouch on 14th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing from the railway station, a Box containing 28 lbs. of Soap : he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather slender make, feminine features, brown hair, whiskers shaved, small light moustache, and wears small gold ear- rings ; dressed in cotton cord trousers, light slop, soft black billy hat, and red cotton neckerchief, tied in sailor's knot; is a railway labourer, has worked on Midland Railway as a platelayer for about 4 yrs., in the neighbourhood of Ashby- de- la- Zouch ; he is a native of Leigh, near, Worcester. Information to be given to Inspector Brewitt, Leicestershire Constabulary, Ashby- de- la- Zouch, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 3. Stolen daring the night of 25th ultimo, from a shed at Stoke Poges, Bucks: a large copper Boiler ( recovered, having been sold at Windsor), by an Irishman, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, sunburnt complexion, slightly pockmarked, small tuft of sandy hair on chin, lather large turn- up nose, and of dirty appearauce ; dressed in dark coat and black cap. His daughter, about 17 years of age, left Windsor with him. He generally carries a bundle of old umbrellas, and gathers rags and bones. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow street, May 3. Description of 2 men charged with committing a larceny at Barley, near Royston, Herts, on 29th ultimo : one about 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in grey suite, hard black felt hat. The other about 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ginger hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, and black hard felt hat. They had the appearance of horse dealers, the first described man has a knife wound in palm of left hand, and carries his arm in a sling.
