Notice.— It is requested, that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on " War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 3rd instant, the Body of a newly born male infant was found upon the sea beach, near Caroline- place, Hastings It was sewn up in a bag made of sail canvas, and wrapped in a piece of old flannel, on the same day a coroner's inquest was held upon the body of the said child, when a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. The articles in which the remains were found may be seen at the Policei Office, Hastings, where it is requested that any information likely to lead to the discovery of tlie offender or offenders may be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, May G. FORGERY. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forging a Cheque on the Imperial Bank for £ 120 14s. ( id., on 25th March last: GEORGE OGILVIE, late of 48, Bowles- road, Old Kent- read, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, fair com- plexion, bald on top of head, sandy hair aud slight moustache turing grey, and slightly pockmarked ; dressed respectably, generally wears his hat much over his eyes, and is a clerk. Stolen from the person on the Bristol Race Course ou 22nd instant: a flat gold horizontal single- cased Watch, with white face and seconds hands, open with spring at back. Also a single- cased English lever Watch, with white face and black hands, maker's name Adam Burden, Coventry. Also a silver English lever hunting Watch with white face, ' J. Cox,' engraved on outside case, maker's name Haynes and Son, Bath. Also on 23rd, a cold Hunting lever Watch, engine- turned, and jewelled in five holes ; Charles Taylor and Son ; No. 15870. Stolen from the person at Lichfield Races, on 24th inst., a silver lever Watch, old- fashioned dial, gold fingers, and engraved on inside case ' William Brown'; and a silver lever " Watch, open case, seconds hands broken oft". Stolen from the person, on 27th instant, while attending the steeple chases at Windsor, Berks : an open, engine- turned compensating balance gold Watch, maker ' Brockbank and Atkins, London; an open- face gold Watch, maker Lund, Hatton Garden, London ; a gold hunter Watch, initials' J. Charged with housebreaking, at Southport, on 26th ult. : a man about 27 years of age. 5 feet high ; dressed in a dark grey coat, moleskin trousers, Scotch cap with peak, and strong lace- up boots. Sworder, during the night of 27th ulti a grey Gelding, 7 years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, on inside of both hocks, swelling on off hock, short t good condition, and valued at £ 60. Also a Gig, olive colour, maker ' McMulltn, Hertford,' ou caps ; three Harness, silver plated-- one set for 4- wheeler, the other gig ; three Riding Saddles and Bridles; two horse CI nearly new ; and two Clipping Machines. Charged with stealing at Halesworth, on 15th Januar last, a Horse, Cart, and Harness ( recovered) ; the property Mr. W. Webb, of the Railway Tavern, Halesworth : THOS. GARWOOD, alias STUMPY, a drover, and will mast likely be found seeking employment in the cattle markets in the eastern counties. He is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, small moustache, slender build and active ; his left hand is very small and deformed, on which he sometimes wears a hook. Description of a man charged with stealing 11 Sheep during the night of 17th instant, at Thrupp, near Woodstock, Oxen ; the property of Mr. Joseph Hutt ( since recovered) : he is about 23 years of age, thin figure, light brown hair, and little or no whiskers ; dressed in a rough overcoat, reaching about to the knees, dark trousers, large at the bottom of legs, light boot.-", hard felt hut, round crowned. HORSE AND CATTLE Stolen from Walsall during the night of 27th ultimo dark brown horse Pony, about 13^ hands high, whit ® spot under the off eye, lame, and spavined on both hind legs, long mane, cut at the top of the head, and short tail. Stolen from a field at Greet's Green, West- Bromwich, during the night of 29th ultimo : a cream- coloured mare Pony, very heavy in foal, long mace and tail, black legs, and 12i hands high, and has got name in gas tar on the breast. Further information respecting the man charged with stealing eleven Sheep, the property of Mr. Joseph Hutt, of Thrupp, near Woodstock, Oxon, during the night of 17th ult.: he is about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. Hutt, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension aud conviction. Found sold at Bradfield, Essex, supposed stolen : a mot- tled grey Gelding, 13£ hands high, 8 years old, fired on inside of both hocks, oil' fore fetlock swoollen, long mane, switch tail, and in good condition. Stolen during the night of 26th ultimo 15 hands 3 inches high, black legs and tail, and hair rubbed, off; a set of brass- mounted Harness, and heavy spring Cart, painted dark green, picked out with light green, leather and brass tops on shafts, one top on near shaft broken. By two men, one 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers : wore a gold albert; the other 20 years of age, o feet 4 inches high, slight LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Loughton, charged with larceny itt LoughtOn, near Stony Stratford, on the night of 20t, h ultimo ( property recovered^ : GEORGE HARRISON, alias STAFFORD, a. tip driver, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, walks erect, fresh complexion, rather long face, brown hair and whiskers, chin and upper lip shaved ; dressed in dark coat and vest, soft black hat, and moleskin or fustian trousers. Had with him a fawn- coloured lurcher dog, with grey muzzle. JOHN DAVIS, about 30 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, fresh complexion, sandy liair, clean shaved ; dressed in dirty brown slop and trousers, Scotch cap with peak, and button on top same material as cap. Supposed working on the new line of railway between Northampton and Rugby, or on the Kettering and Monton Railway. Information to be given to Inspector Webb, Slonv Stratford, Bucks, who holds warrants fur their apprehension.— Bow- street, May G, Description of CHARLES F. AMES, a tailor, and secretary to the Tailor's Society, late of Malvern, charged with larceny : he is 3' 5 years of age, 5 feet 8 or $> inches high, fresh complexion, light hair and luoustai- ho, no whiskers, rather long straight nose, thin lips, slightly marked with smallpox, large feet, and when walking carries his head a little forward ; dressed in grey plaid suit and silk hat, and is a native of Brighton. Last heard of in Birmingham on 23rd ultimo. By two meu : one 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair and beard ( turning grey) ; dressed in blue frock coa t, grey tight- fitting trousers, heavy boots, high broad brimmed hat, long linked watch chain; the other 3"> years of age, o feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, brown whiskers, beard, and moustache, dark clothes, and soft felt hat. JAUNTRY, who absconded from Ashby- de- la- Zouch on 1.4th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing from the railway station, a Box containing 23 lbs. of Soap : he is about 2G years of age, 5 feet. 5 or 6 inches high, rather slender make, feminine features, brown hair, whiskers shaved, small li!.. ht moustache, and wears small gold ear- rings ; dressed in cotton cord trousers, light slop, soft black billy hat, and red cotton neckerchief, tied in sailor's knot; is a railway labourer, hits worked oil Midland Railway as a platelayer for about 4 v ;-- s., in the neighbourhood of Ashby- de- la- Zouch ; he is a native of Leigh, near Worcester. Information to be given to Inspector Brewitt, Leicestershire Constabulary, Ashby- de- la- Zouch, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 3. HARRY WILLIAMS, charged with larceny, and described in Police Gazette of 25th January last, has not yet been apprehended. Information to be given at the Police Office, Tunbridge Wells, Kent .— Bow- street, May 3. Stolen during the night of 2oth ultimo, from a shed at Stoke Poges, Bucks : a large copper Boiler ( recovered, having been sold at Windsor), by an Irishman, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, sunburnt complexion, slightly pockmarked, small tuft of sandy hair on chin, rather large turn- up nose, and of dirty appearance ; dressed in dark coat and black cap. His daughter, about 17 years of age; left Windsor with him. He generally carries a bundle of old umbrellas, and gathers rags and bon^ s. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunham," Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- slrcet, May 3. Description of 2 men charged with committing a larceny at Barley, near Royston, Herts, on 29th ultimo : one about 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair; dressed in grey suite, hard black felt hat. The other about 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ginger hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, aud block hard felt hat. They had the appearance of horse dealers, the first described man has a knife wound in palm of loft hand, and carries his arm in a sling. They had in their possession a well bred bay Mare, 15£ hands high, 6 yearj old, black legs, - id marks on the jaw caused by beiug blistered ; and a light • ing Cart, picked out with light green, back let down, a 1 wooden dashboard, double steps on both sides, two 1 holes in each step ; set of silver mounted Harness, is pattern furniture, straight flap saddle, with square 1 nails on top. They were traced through Ware to a e near Eppiug, Essex, aud finding the were closely ed by the police, abandoned the horse and cart. Description of JOHN FURNESS, traveller for iron d boiler works, charged upon a warrant with embezzle- ent : he is 47 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh bomplexion, very bald, light hair, moustache and whiskers, which may have been shaved off, stout build, short thick hands, bow- legged, swaggers when walking, and frequents first- class hotels ; dressed in brown suit, dark thick cloth overcoat, and black silk hat. He was last seen on the 24th ultimo ; will call upon boiler makers and try to dispose of a patent for an angle- iron ring, rolled out of the solid. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Hilton, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, by whom £ 2 reward will be paid for his appre- hension.— Bow- st., May 1. Absconded from Luton on 29th ultimo, charged on warrant with larceny : JOHN STRATTON, blocker, of Luton, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, large teeth in front, and shows them very much when talking ; dressed in a black pilot jacket, dark blue vest and trousers, black deerstalker hat, and lace- up boots. Informa- tion to lie given to Hsad Constable Jaquest, Borough Police Office, Luton, Bedfordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 1. Charged on warrants with stealing 2 tons of Nitrate of Soda ( recovered) : ISAAC ROBSON, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ins. high, proportionate build, fair comp'exion, ginger hair and moustache, no whiskers or beard, blue eyes; dressed in dark tweed suit, and hard felt hat; by trade a brickmaker. WILLIAM WOOD, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, little whiskers under chin, stout build, rather bow- legged; dressed in tweed suit, trousers a shade lighter than the coat and vest, and hard black felt hat; is a cartman or low horse dealer. Both are natives of Newcastle- upon- Tyne. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen from the shop of Mr. Joseph Ward, 338, Victoria- street, Grimsby, between 10 and 12 a. m. on 27th ultimo : two gold levers, large 16 size, white dials, Nos. 18130 and 14488 ; a f- plate gold Geneva Lever, neaijy new ; two 18 size gold Levers, gold dials, No. 4090 ; a goli Lever, 16 size, white dial, No. 17815 ; a gold hunting Geneva; a Geneva, white dial, strong case, No. 3272. By a man, from 22 to 25 years of age, rather tall and thin, blue eyes, red hair, and fresh complexion; dressed in black coat, light mixture trousers, and round felt hat. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. Ward to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Further ^ information of the larceny at Buckden, adver- tised in the Police Gazette of 23. rd ultimo : the meu went to Huntingdon and stopped there until noon on 21st ultimo, when they left, stating they were going to Cambridge. They gave their names— WILLIAM JACKSON, striker, of Manchester, who is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, blue eyes, light hair and complexion, sanely moustache, and pock- marked ; dressed ill a dark coat, light trousers, hard felt hat, and dirty- white wrapper; and GEORGE MORGAN, a groom, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, blue eyes, brown hair, and fresli complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and hard felt hat. They will probably stop at Casual Wards under these names. Information to be given, to Mr. Superintendent Copping, St. Neots, Huntingdon.— Bov:- street, May 1. Description of THOMAS CHAMBERS, a labourer or navvy, late of Greenfield Waterworks, charged on warrant with larceny : he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, proportionate build, small light moustache; dressed in moleskin trousers, loose drab slop, such as usually worn by navies, soft black billycock hat, and heavy boots ; he is a convicted thief, and well known on public works. Information to be given to Inspector Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Saddleworth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 29. be given to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton.— Bow- street, May 6. Absconded on 23rd ultimo, $ rom Iken, SttfisBc, charged with having on 10th - altimo, at Iken, committed bestiality with a mare pony : JOHN BAGGOTT, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and no hair on his face ; dressed generally in a brown velveteen waistcoat, dark corduroy " trousers, and soft felt hat. He may have a speckled suit with him. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Freeman, Woodbridge, or to Police Con- stable Alden, Tunstall, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 1. Description of JANE JENNER, charged on a warrant with administering to herself a noxious thing with intent to procure her own miscarriage : she is about 30 years of age, short, slightly made, pale thin face, large nose flattened on right side, a wart or lump on the bridge, front teeth project, has a downcast look ; generally dresses in dark clothes ; a native of Brighton, and is a domestic servant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 29. FRAUDS AMD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded from Gloucester, charged with fraud, by representing himself as the Hon. RICHARD WESTENRA, brother to Earl Rossmore : he is about 24 years of age, 6 feet high, stoops slightly when walking, thin made, dark brown liair, no whiskers, small dark moustache, rather good looking, and gentlemanly address ; usually dressed iu dark tweed suit, with bowler hat, or else a new serge black suit, low shoes, crimson stockings. He has a small black bag with straps, generally carries a small stick, and stays at one of the best hotels, associating if possible with military officers. Informa- tion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Chipp, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for Ms apprehension.— Bow- street, May 6. Absconded from Worksop, charged with night poaching and assaulting the gamekeeper of W. T. Cookson, Esq., on 18th ultimo: WILLIAM SCOTT, labourer, of Worksop, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light brown hair, fresh com- plexion, large nose, no whiskers or moustache, and is accom- panied by a woman, called ' Staffordshire Fan.' And JOSEPH HOLDEN, alias LEGS, a labourer and native of Whitwell, Derbyshire, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10£ or 11 inches high, dark brown hair, pale or sallow com- plexion, and ( supposed) neither whiskers or moustache.
