As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must fee prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Information to be given to Mi'. Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhea^.— Bow- street, April 29. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 13th instant, the dead body of a newly- born female Child was found in a wood on Bradninch Common, adjoining the highway between Cullompton and Bradninch, with marks of violence thereon. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' has been found by the coroner's jury. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offenders, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant or Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forging a Cheque on the Imperial Bank for £ 120 14s. 6d., on 25th March last: GEORGE OGILVIE, late of 48, Bowles- road, Old Kent- read, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, fair com- plexion, bald on top of head, sandy hair and slight moustache turing grey, and slightly pockmarked; dressed respectably, generally wears his hat much over his eyes, and is a clerk. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. -— Bow- street, April 29. Absconded, charged with forgery at Manchester : a man about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, grey hair, and whiskers going grey, no moustache, weighs about 14 stone ; supposed to be wearing a brown coat and tall hat. On 13th instant he obtained £ 60 upon a draft on ti e Liverpool Union Bank, Bold- street Branch, Liverpool, which had been altered from £ 10 to £ 160 by some chemical process. Stolen from the person on the Bristol Race Course on 22nd instant: a flat gold horizontal single- cased Watch, with white face and seconds bauds, open with spring at back. Also from the person, a single- cased English lever Watch, with white face and black hands, maker's name Adam Burden, Coventry. Also a silver English lever hunting Watch with white face, ' J. Cox,' engraved on outside case, maker's name Haynes and Sou, Bath. Also on 23rd, a yold Hunting lever Watch, engine- turned, and jewelled in five holes ; Charles Taylor and Son ; No. 15870. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Drewitt, Long Ashton, Bristol, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, April 29. Stolen from the person in Loehmaben, Dumfries- shire, on the night of 24th instant: a silver Geneva Watch, large size, No. 34536, engine- turned cases, nearly new. Informa- tion to be given to the t hief Constable, County Buildings, Dumfries.— Bow- street, April 29. Stolen from the person at Lichfield Races, on 24th inst. a silver lever Watch, old- fashioned dial, gold fingers, and engraved on inside case ' William Brown'; and a silver lever Watch, open case, seconds hands broken off. Also on same date, a black fir clasp Purse, containing £ 3 in Geld and 12s. in Silver. Information to be given to Sergeant Hammond, Shenstone, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., April 29. Stolen from the person, on 27tli instant, while attending the steeple chases at Windsor, Berks : an open, engine- turned BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Charged with housebreaking, at Soutliport, on 26th ult. : a man about 27 years of age, 5 feet high; dressed in a dark grey coat, moleskin trousers, Scotch cap with peak, and strong lace- up boots. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Town Hall, Southport, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen, by means of house- breaking, on 22nd instant, from a cottage at Horderley, Egerton, Salop : two Half- Sovereigns, twenty- eight 3d. Pieces, two 4d. Pieces, two Six- pences, a Florin, and a Penny; the property of Martha Weaver. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, Salop.— Bow- street, April 29. Between 10 p. m. 22nd, and 6' 30 a. m. 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Edwin Orme, of Horninglow- street, Burton- on- Trent, was entered by bursting open a cellar grating at the back of the house, and stolen : 2 sides of Sole Leather, 2 pairs of men's lace- up Boots, and 2 pairs of men's boot Tops. Between 11 p. m. on 23rd, and 6 a. m. on 24th instant, a dwelling- house, at Southsea, was broken and entered and the following property stolen : A lady's loose fitting sealskin Jacket, medium size, lined with brown satin, three hooks in front, one eye missing, and no pocket. * A black silk Dress, body lined with light lavender colour lining, trimmed with silk and crape in front, three pleats and three bows behind, and black muslin lining inside bottom of skirt. 4 silver Table Spoons, marked ' E. A. F.' A silver Salt Spoon, marked ' M.' A ditto Knife, Pork, and Spoon, each marked ' A. E. S.' on one side, and ' K. E.' on the other. A ditto Knife, Fork, and Spoon, not marked. A gold Locket with diamond in centre. A lady's gold Ring with pearls and diamond in centre. A ditto mourning Ring, set with a diamond. A ditto Indian Ring. 2 ditto ditto with turquoiso. A ditto ditto enamelled. A ditto ditto with emeralds. A set of Ear- rings with carbuncle in centre and gold fringe. A gold Indian Brooch with three pendants, each contain- ing a stone. A gent's gold Locket with two Pencil- cases attached. A gold Bracelet, heart with carbuncle in centre. A ditto ditto with cornelian stone. A lady's gold star Locket, enamelled, and pearls in centre. 2 silver Vinaigrettes— 1 Mary' engraved on lid of one. A gold Dollar with small hole. A gold watch Key with a Three- penny Piece attached. A lady's gold mourning Ring. An old- fashioned silver Cream Jug, oval shape. 3 £ 5 Bank of England Notes. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jervis, Landp rt Police Station, Portsmouth, Hants.—- Bow- street, April 26. Stolen by means of hsusebreaking, at Bigby, from the dwelling- house of Sarah Beacock, on 19th instant : an apple Pie, and blue and white Dish ; a tart Crust, and white china Saucer, six blue spots inside ; a Plate with Bread and Butter on it ; and half a white bread Loaf. Supposed by two men, one about 50 years of age, medium size, dark whiskers, turning grey ; dressed in dark clothes. The other had a dark coat on, and wore a pair of fustian trousers. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Danby, Brigg, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, April 26. Description of a man charged with stealing 11 Sheep.. during the night of 17tli instant, at Thrupp, near Woodstock,? Oxen ; the property of Mr. Joseph Hutt ( since recovered) : he is about 23 years of age, thin figure, light brown hair, and little or no whiskers ; dressed in a rough overcoat, reaching a, bout to the knees, dark trousers, large at the bottom of legs, light boots, hard felt hat, round crowned. He can be iden- tified. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, Police Station, Woodstock, Oxen.— Boiv- street, April 29. Stolen from a turnip field at Caenby Cliff, near Caenby Hall, between lst and 18th instant : a fat yearling he- hogget Sheep, long wool, marked with a X, the property of Mr. Frank Cross, farmer, of Caenby. £ 5 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Taylor, Lindsey Police Station, Lincolnshire.— Bmv- st., April 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JOHN FURNESS, traveller for iron and boiler works, charged upon a warrant with embezzle- ment : he is 47 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, very bald, light hair, moustache and whiskers, which may have been shaved off, stout build, short thick hands, bow- legged, swaggers when walking, and frequents first- class hotels ; dressed in brown suit, ( lark thick cloth overcoat, and black silk hat. He was last seen on the 24th ultimo; HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Tawney Hall, Stapleford Tawney; the pro- perty of Mr. Win- Sworder, during the night of 27th ultimo : a grey Gelding, 7 years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, fired on inside of both hocks, swelling on off hock, short tail, in good condition, and valued at £ 60. Also a Gig, olive green colour, maker ' McMulltn, Hertford,' on caps ; three sets of Harness, silver plated— one set for 4- wh. eeler, the others for gig ; three Riding Saddles and Bridles; • two horse Cloths, nearly new ; and two Clipping Machines. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Ongar, Essex.— Bow- street, May 1. Charged with stealing at Halesworth, on 15th January last, a Horse, Cart, and Harness ( recovered) ; the property of Mr. W. Webb, of the Railway Tavern, Halesworth : THOS, GARWOOD, alias STUMPY, a drover, and will most likely be found seeking employment in the cattle markets in the eastern counties. He is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, small moustache, slender build and active ; his left hand is very small and deformed, on which he sometimes wears a hook. Information to be given to Mr. will call upon boiler makers and try to dispose of a patent for an angle- iron ring, rolled out of the solid. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Hilton, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, by whom £ 2 reward will be paid for his appre- hension.— Bow- st., May 1. Mssconded from Luton on 29th ultimo, F charged on warrant with larceny : JOHN STRATTON, blocker, of Luton, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, large teeth in front, and shows them very much when talking ; dressed in a black pilot jacket, dark blue vest and trousers, black deerstalker hat, and lace- up boots. Informa- tion to be given to Head Constable Jaquest, Borough Police Office, Luton, Bedfordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 1. Charged on warrants with stealing 2 tons of Nitrate of Soda ( recovered) : ISAAC ROBSON, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ins. high, proportionate build, fair complexion, ginger hair and moustache, no whiskers or beard, blue eyes ; dressed in dark tweed suit, and hard felt hat; by trade a brickmaker. WILLIAM WOOD, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, little whiskers under chin, stout build, rather bow- legged; dressed in tweed suit trousers a shade lighter than the coat and vest and hard black felt hat; is a cartman or low horse dealer. ' Both are natives of Newcastle- upon- Tyne. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle on- Tyne.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen from the shop of Mr. Joseph Ward, 338, Victoria- street, Grimsby, between 10 and 12 a. m. on 27th ultimo : two gold levers, large 16 size, white dials, Nos. 18130 and 14488 ; a f- plate gold Geneva Lever, nearly new ; two 18 size cr0ld Levers, gold dials, No. 4090 ; a gold Level', 16 size, white dial, No. 17815 ; a gold hunting Geneva ; a Geneva, white dial, strong case, No. 3272. By a man, from 22 to 25 years of age, rather tall and thin, blue eyes, red hair, and fresh complexion; dressed in black coat, light mixture trousers and round felt hat. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. Ward to any person giving such information tis will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Campbell, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, May 1. Further [ information of the larceny at' Buckden, adver- tised in the Police Gazette of 23rd ultimo : the men went to Huntingdon and stopped there until noon on 21st ultimo when they left, stating they were going to Cambridge.'' They gave their names— WILLIAM JACKSON, striker, of Manchester, who is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, blue eyes, light hair and complexion, sandy moustache, and pock- marked ; dressed in a dark coat, light trousers, hard felt hat and dirty- white wrapper; and GEORGE MORGAN, a groom, 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, bine eyes, brown hair, and fresh complexion ; dressed in dark clothes- and hard felt hat. They will probably stop at Casual Wards under these names. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Copping, St. Neots, Huntingdon.— Bow- street, May 1. Description of THOMAS CHAMBERS, a labourer or navvy, late of Greenfield Waterworks, charged on warrant with larceny : he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, proportionate build, small light moustache ; dressed in mole.- kiu trousers, loose drab slop, such as usually worn by navies, soft black billycock hat, and heavy boots ; he is a convicted thief, and well known on public works. Information to b • given to Inspector Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Saddleworth Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 29. Further information respecting GEORGE WHiTTALL Jilias RICHARD LLOYD, alias GREAT HEAD who absconded from Eaton Constantine, on 24th instant, _ and is charged on a warrant with larceny atTasley, 14th April, 1877, advertised in Police Gazette of 30th April, 1877 : he _ is dressed in dark jacket and vest, light grey trousers, elastic- side boots, and hard jim- crow hat; was seen in Wellington, Salop, at 6- 30 p. m., 24th instant. This man is known in the neighbourhood of Eaton Constantine, by the name of GEO. DOWNES, at which place he workedfor Mr. Glover, farmer. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Christie, or to Sergeant Leader, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street April 26. Stolen from a lodging- house in Peterborough, on 24th instant: a black cloth double- breasted Overcoat, has two pockets outside with flaps, one inside left breast, it has a piece of white tape under the loop inside the collar, supposed to have the name ' T. Garner' on the white tape. Supposed by two tramping men, one an artificial flower maker, about 21 years of age, 6 feet high, broad smooth face, hair cut short, and supposed to belong to Hertford. He is accompanied by a young woman. This man has been arrested on suspicion, and discharged, and is supposed to have concealed the stolen coat. The other man is an iron moulder, from 30 to 35 years of age ; dressed in dark coat, moleskin trousers, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Hurst, Borough Police Station, Peterborough, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, April 26. FELONIES. { Not otherwise described.) Absconded on 23rd ultimo, from Iken, Suffolk, charged with having on 10th ultimo, at Iken, committed bestiality with a mare pony : JOHN BAGGOTT, about ID years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and no hair on his face ; dressed generally in a brown velveteen waistcoat, dark corduroy trousers, and soft felt hat. He may have a speckled suit with him. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ereeman, Woodbridge, or to Police Con- stable Alden, Tunstall, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 1. Description of JANE JENNER, charged on a warrant wit'i administering to herself a noxious thing with intent'to procure her own miscarriage : she is about 30 years of age, short, slightly made, pale thin face, large nose flattened - on right side, a wart or lump on the bridge, front teeth project, has a downcast look ; generally dresses in dark clothes ; a native of Brighton, and is a domestic servant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 29. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. ' Description of JOHN BYLES, a dealer, who absconded from Norwich on 12th ultimo, charged on a warrant with obtaining money by false pretences : he is about 26 years . of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light brown hair, cut short, brown eyes, no whiskers or moustache, fresh complexion, smart appearance ; dressed in light brown mixed suit, black deer- stalker hat, lace boots, occasionally wears a sealskin cap. He associates with betting men. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Norwich, Norfolk,— Bow- street, May 1. Description of DAVID PALMEB, late of Oxford- street, London, diamond merchant, charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 80 from Mr. Charles Henry Jenkins, merchant, of Grimsbury, near Banbury, by false pretences : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, little fair whiskers, deep sunken eyes, wears glasses, and talks fast; dressed respectably. Is well known at - Banbury. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Bond, Birmingham;*— Bow• street, April 29. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Remanded, charged with stealing from the person at the steeple chases, Old Windsor, on 27th ultimo : a gold keyless huntin"- Watch, gold Chain attached, ( not recovered) : HENBY MARTIN, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown eyes, hair turning grey, moustache and imperial, chin shaved, marks of abscess under each ear, ' C. L. S. P.', cross, and anchor on left arm, ' H. G.' or ' C.' on left forearm. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer.— Bow- street, May 1. Remanded, charged with felony : GODFREY LLOYD, an herbalist, about 41 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, light whiskers and moustache, scar on left thigh; a native of Clerkenwell, London. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Alcester, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 1. Description of THOS. OWEN DALEY, who absconded from Industrial School, Cannington, near Bridgwater, on 10th ultimo : he is 12 years of age, 4 feet 2| inches high, slight figure, brown hair, intelligent appearance ; dressed in cord trousers, vest, and jacket, belongs to Fetter- lane, Holbom, London. Information to be given to the Superin- tendent of the Industrial School, Cannington, near Bridg- water, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, May 1. Escaped from the Convict Prison, at Chatham, on 29th ultimo : D 383, GILES HUTCHINGS, a convict, for wilful murder, 33 years of age, 5 feet 4f incheshigh, dark hair and complexion, blue eyes, proportionate make, a glove maker, and born at Hardington, Somerset ; marked on right side with a scar corner of eye, above wrist, back of hand, and on outside of wrist; left side, scar on upper part of forehead, above wrist, and on second finger. Committed on 20th Jan., 1877 at Yeovil ; convicted at Taunton Lent Assizes, on 10th March, 1877, sentenced to 24 years penal servitude. His friends reside at Hardington, near Yeovil. Information to be given to the Governor, Convict Prison, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, May 1. Bemanded until 6th instant, charged with attempting to pick pockets ( names supposed fictitious) : THOMAS RIVERS, 20 years of age, 5 feet 8£ inches high, browny- black negro hair, brown eyes, very sallow com- plexion, slim bililf, and scar and blue mark on left arm; dressed in small striped dark grey trousers, blue serge coat and vest. WILLIAM BEATRIS, 24 years of age, 5 feet 2^ inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, large bald place on back of head, from a blow, scar on knuckle of second finger left hand, and thickly built; dressed in dark grey trousers, blue serge jacket, striped waistcoat, and a dark dust ovGrcoSit And BENJAMIN TRIBBLES, 38 years of age, 5 ft. 4f inches high, black hair, dark brown beard and moustache, hazel eyes, sallow complexion, freckled face, two scars on the right elbow, scar on left arm, and scar from abscess near left ear ; dressed in dark striped trousers, black coat and vest, dark grey waterproof coat, and deerstalker hac. They frequent race- courses. Information to be given to Sergeant Sommers, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, May 1. Remanded at Derby until 4th instant, charged with larceny and obtaining money by false pretences : WILLIAM WRIGHT, 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, sallow com- plexion, brown hair, and dark grey eyes; dressed in blue Guernsey, large white muffler, blue trousers, lace- up boots, and cheesecutter cap. States he is a native of Basingstoke. Information to be given to Chief Constable Delacombe, Town Hall, Derby.— Bow- street, May L Description of a convict, X C 255, GEORGE WOOD, who effected his escape from Brixton Prison, on 23rd instant: 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, proportionately built, a painter, and was undergoing a sentence of 8 years penal servitude for stealing thread, & c., at Manchester, where he was convicted 14th December, 1876. Previously convicted at Maidstone, 13th March, 1871, for burglary, at Dover, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude; also convicted at Surrey Sessions lst June, 1868, as GEORGE WYBUBN, and Middlesex Sessions 28th February last, as GEORGE WOOD. Descriptive marks, right side, scar back of wrist; left side, vaccine mark, tattoo marks thick part of arm, ' A. J.' and quill pen, ' D. D.' on ribs, scar on knee, and heavily wrinkled forehead. It is very pro- bable that he may attempt to make his way northward as a tramping painter. Information to be given to the Governor of Brixton Prison, Surrey.— Bow- st., April 29. Description of three men committed for trial at the next Derby Assizes, charged with ztealing on 22nd February last: two black leather Bags, containing £ 920, from a railway carriage, whilst standing at the Midland Railway Station, Derby : One gave the name of GEORGE WRIGHT, no fixed residence, states he is a betting man, 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, ( rather long and thin), thin features, cut mark on left cheek and each eyebrow, scar on left wrist, and slender build. The third WILLIAM PENDER, gave his address 5, Lower Priory, Birmingham, where he lias resided for a short time, 43 years of age, 5 feet 4f inches high, dark hair, thick black whiskers and moustache, full vein under right eye, cut on right temple, varicose veins on both legs, round face, and well built. These men are all supposed to be known at Glasgow, by the names of THOMAS QUABNS, JOHN PINDAR, and JAMES DRELINTY.
