As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, o. 140, DUBLIN, FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 1878. SCOTTISH POLICE. John M'Kay, been arrested. described in last Hue- and- Cry, has DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. DESCRIPTION of convict Mary Wall ( 2009) who has broken the conditions of her license in not reporting herself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convictcd at Limerick, county of Limerick, at Spring Assizes, on 12th March, 1872, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude; 40 years of age on conviction, can read, is a Roman Catholic, single, prison trade knitter, born at Newbridge, resided before conviction at Rathkeale; light brown hair, blue eyes, light eyebrows, short nose, large mouth, fresh complexion,.. round visage, stout make, 5| feet high ; mark over left eyebrow. The above named convict was released from Mountjoy Female Prison, on the 23rd November, 1877, on an order of license to be at large, and took her discharge for Rathkeale, county Limerick. On the 9th instant she left Askeaton, stating that she was going to- reside at Shanagolden, Ardagh, or New- castle, but she has not reported herself to the Con- stabulary at any of these places, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act ( 1871), 34 and Vic., cap. 112. DEScRiPTION of convict Simon Cunningham ( 2830),' who has broken the conditions of his licence, in not reporting himself to the Police on change of resi- dence :— Convicted at Dublin City October Sessions, on 3rd October, 1873, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 46 years of age on con- viction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, married, but states he has no children, a labourer, born in Rathkeale; resided before conviction in Dublin; his friends reside in Park- street, near Francis- street; gray hair, hazel eyes, brown eyebrows, short nose, ordinary mouth, wants nearly all the teeth in front of mouth, sallow complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 41 inches high. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on an order of licence, on the Ist September, 1877, and took his discharge for Dublin, where he resided for some time. He left his residence with- - out notifying same to the Police, to whom he has not reported himself since the 1st December, 1877, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5 th sec. of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 56 Vic., cap. 112. • Gen. ' risons Board, Lower Castle Yard, jblin, February 23, 1878. I DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Curling ( 2581), I who has broken the conditions of his { jcence in failing ; to notify to the Police his change of residence:— Convicted at Dublin city October Sessions, on 3rd Octobei, 1873, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years '" years of age on conviction, can Protestant, single, a tutor, born conviction in College- county Galway; dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, sharp nose, regular mouth, sallow complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 5} inches high; slightly pock- marked, a burn- mark on right cheek, along the whiskers. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 18th September, 1877, on an order of licence, and proceeded to Dublin, where he reported himself to the Police. He resided for some time in the Dublin district; but left his residence about the 1st October last, without notifying same to the Police. He has not reported himself since, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 119. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who is wanted on Warrant charging him with having obtained goods by false pretences from trades- people in Dublin t— Charles Doyle, about 32 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, pale complexion, and marked very much about the nose with small- pox; dressed in a dark tweed Derby coat, shabby gray tweed trow- sers and vest, and round jerry hat; he is a native ; came back from America lately, and said he had a return ticket to go back by the steamship Germania. STOLEN from the North- wall, Dublin, on the 17th August, 1877, the following articles, the property or a passenger, between Holyhead and Dublin, viz.:— A brown leather portmanteau, J. C. on each end, canvas cover, same initials on ends, containing the following articles, viz.— a new dress suit, made by Buckmaster, Dawson- street, a morning suit, a shawl pattern dressing gown ( red flannel lining), about8 linen shirts ( 2 fancy), 2 night shirts, 1 pair of merino drawers, 2 silk under- vests; the name Buckmaster supposed on inside of collars of coats, on inside of back straps of vests, on inside of waistbands of trow- sers, and on buttons of latter; 1 dozen collars, 6 silk and 6 cambric pocket- handkerchiefs, anil some silk ties, 1 dressing- case well furnished, 1 pair of London made razors with ivfiry hafts ( 1 of latter split), 1 French razor strop ( maker Eubri'el), 1 pair hair- brushes in case, 1 long tortoise- shell comb ( a tooth broken), a large magnifying glass mounted in metal, a small do. mounted in tortoise- shell, a large white ivory double opera- glass, a complete set of ivory teeth ( gold springs), I fancy inkstand ( double cover), a Roman Catholic prayerbook ( bound in Russian lea- ther, a cross on cover), several reading essays, books, & c., 4c., a silver- mounted cigar case to hold 8 cigars, a brown leather do., about 18 cabinet cigars, and 1 onyx breast- pin, with studs to match. DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names unknown, who are wanted on suspicion of having stolen a cow which they had in their possession, " sale to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 5 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and soft jerry hat. The woman is 30 to 35 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan, of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20,1877. DUBLIN CASTLE, 24th Jam- - REAS it has 37h. a" if Lo. 4 v hour of I '"' clock, THE POLICE GAZETTE, 0 oil the 15th day of January, 1878, Patrick Carney, or Kearney, aged about 80 years, was murdered by some person or persons unknown, on the public road leading from Crusheen, in the county of Clare, to the mountains: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be pa. d, on conviction, by Hugh M'Ternan, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Ennis, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DUBLIN CASTLE, 31 st December, 1877. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, at about the hour of ten o'clock, on the night of the 17th instant, John Tobin, of Gurrane, in the county Clare, was found on the public road between Feakle and his own house, murdered by some person or persons at present unknown; His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to ofler a reward of . ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. O'Hara, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Tulla, county Clare, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Pro- clamation. DESCRIPTION of Patrick O'Brien, native of Carrow- nakelly, who stands charged with having, on the 4th inst., in the barony of Tulla Lower, parish of Killaloe, seriously assulted Julia Salmon, by striking her on tho head with a stone, which fractured her skull, and renders her life in danger:— High cheek bones, slo venly gait, and walks with a swagger ; blue eyes, thick short nose, fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, very fair hair, is bald on top of head; wore a gray frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, gray frieze vest. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry, county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March. 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Bather short neck, slightly round shoulders '; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. Mitchelstown, March 24, 1875. ( 5182 o.— 9507.) DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 4 - AND- CBY, APEIL 12, 1878. feet 10 inches high, about 35 years ot age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 6, 1876. DESCRIPTION of a sheep, the property of Thomas Roche, which was stolen or strayed from the lands of Annakissa, parish of Clenor, barony of Fermoy, on the night of Tuesday the 2nd April, 1878:— Aewe sheep, 2 years old, branded on right side with the letters T. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.30 o'clock on tho morning of Tuesday, tho 2nd day of April, 1878, William Sydney, Earl of Leitrim, John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown : His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of tho persons who committod the same, or any of them. By his Gracc's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid by Edmund Y. Peel, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Letter enny, to thosQ who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Ward, native of county Kildare ( no fixed residence), who stands charged with having, on the 3rd April, 1878, in the barony of Kilkea and Moon, parish of Castledermot, stolen 3 heifers, the property of William F. Burton, esq., of Burton Hall, which heifers were recovered:— Wants a tooth in front of mouth in upper jaw, blue eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make. 5 feet 7 inches high, about 42 years of age, fair hair; wore a round hat, dark coat, Windsor trowsers, made tight; is a horse trainer or groom, and has the appearance of same; well known in Kildare and Queen's. DESCRIPTION of John Sheehy ( mother's surname Higgins native of Ballinahinch, county Limerick, who stands enarged with having, on the morning of 4th April, 1878, at Ballinahinch, in the barony of Cost- lea, parish of Knocklong, stolen 4 cows, value for about £ 16 each, the property of his brother Edmond Sheehy:— One tooth out in front of mouth in upper jaw; gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, abgj& t 45 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a jerry hat, grey tweed coat, cord trowsers, tweed vest; is a labourer. Monaghan. about 27 or 28 years of age, black hair, small dark moustache ; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer. Has a pair of English- made navvy boots with iron plates under toes, also a pair of light Wellington boots. Tubbercurry, Dec. 9, 1878. ( 11826 O.— 20394.) DESCRIPTION of Daniel Noonan ( mother's surname Hartigan), native of county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on tlio 29th March, 1878, in tlie barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Kilvellane, murdered Martin Gorman, by smashing his skull:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, big long face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair ; wore a low soft hat, dark frieze frock coat, whitish corduroy trowsci's, light tweed vest; is a farmer. Newport, March 30, 1878. ( 16657 c.— 29123,) Small County, parish of Fedamare, seriously assaulted James Riordan, by striking him with a spade on the head, thereby endangering his life:— Blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of nge, brown hair; wore a jerry hat, gray tweed coat, cord trowsers, gray tweed vest; is a labourer. Liberties of Coleraine, parish of Cole- raine, stabbed John Magrath in the neck, from the effects of which he died almost immediately:— Thick lips, gray eyes, pug nose, sallow complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 17 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft hat, dark tweed suit, check shirt, and white front. DESCRIPTION of James Cullin and John Cullin, natives of Longfield, county Longford, who stand charged with having, on the 1st April, 1878, at Cullogue, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Mostrim, assaulted James Cunningham, of Cam, and with having stabbed a mare belonging to Catherine Cunningham, and caused the mare's death:— 1 James Cullin, blue eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 32 years of age, red hair, beard, and whiskers, but no moustache. 2 John Cullin, dark eyes, straight nose, dark com- plexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair, short whiskers shaved straight across cheek. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, at about the hour of 5 o'clock, on the evening of the 3rd instant, Thomas Francis Tighe, esq., Manager of the Ulster Bank, Ballina, while returning from Crossmolina, and when near the fairygreen of Newtowngore, was fired at by some person or persons at present unknown, and the horse which he was driving was wounded. DESCRIPTION ofT a trie Raftery, native of Curragh- sallagh, county Roscommon, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of March, at Curraghsallagh, in the Barony of Frenchpark, parish of Tibohine, murdered John Sherlock, of Ballaghadereen, by shooting him in the chest with a gun :— 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium make, dark sallow complexion, black hair, dark eyes, has a long flat nose, pointed at end, and a hardy thin face; wore brown jerry hat, dark pilot coat, and dark trowsers and vest. This man is a labourer, but being black and hardy, looks like a nailor; he has never shaved, and little hair grows on his jaws; he has a small black moustache, and small black yankee beard on chin; one of his hands has the mark of an injury received by the bursting of a gun, or by an accident from machinery; he was in America and England for five years, and is smart in manner and appearance, looks about 30 years of age; ho is supposed to go to England.
