MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. The dead body of a newly- born male child was found on the Great Western Railway, near the Dartmouth Street Bridge, at West Bromwich, on 7th instant, and a coroner's jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or mui derers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery : JOHN WATSON, alias HUGH MURRAY, late of 71, Clapham- road, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, hair and whiskers brown, shaved on chin, sallow complexion, square build; dresses well. Stolen from the person at Aintree Races, on 28th and 29th ultimo : a silver patent lever stop Watch, cream- coloured dial, gold hands, back of outer case very much worn ; a silver lever Watch, open- face, white dial, gold hands and hinges, ' J. Tindale' engraved on dome ; a large strong metal case Watch, thick glass, belonging to the Liverpool Corporation Water Works, has engraved on back ' L. C. W. W. No. 3'; a silver lever hunting Watch, white dial, maker J. Dennett, Huyton, supposed No. 281 ; a gold centre seconds Watch, the back of which has been repaired, cream- coloured dial, sunk seconds, makers name Thomas Wheeler, Preston. Remanded at Portsmouth until 6th instant, charged with picking pockets in church, during a confirmation service : EDWARD FORD, ( name supposed fictitious), about 22 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, brown hair, hazel eyes, small mouse- colour moustache, pale ( oval) face, deep scar on right shoulder, one about 2 inches long on left forearm, and smaller scars on forehead, left eyebrow, poll, left side of neck, and close to left elbow joint, and large mole on left rump ; dressed in black felt hat, black figured silk necktie, dark blue corded suit, ' Kino, High Holborn' maker, and elastic- side boots ; he is smart and active, of respectable appearance, and states he is a waiter, and a native of Liverpool. Stolen from the person at Preston, on 1st instant : a silver centre seconds chronograph Watch, No. 33437 ; also a silver verge Watch, old fashioned, No. 3065, had attached a plated Albert Guard and Locket, had the name ' William Dewhurst' engraved on the ease. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 3. Stolen from the person on the Race Course, at Bishoper, near Malmesbury, on 26th instant ; the property of Mr. C. Cave, of Bristol: a gold Watch, No. 35766, makers' name John T. Peters & Co., Bristol. Also stolen ; the property of E. A. Miles, Esq., of Malmes- bury : an aluminium Watch, maker ' Kibble, London.' Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Luffman, Malmesbury, Wiltshire.— Bow- st., March 29. Stolen from the person at Loughborough Steeple Chases, on 20th instant: BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Robert Carrick, of Sutton, York, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : a blue pilot Coat, velvet collar, and silk front, torn on the left hand pocket; a grey Coat and Yest, much worn ; a pepper- and- salt Coat and Vest ; and a pair of strong half Boots, with three rows of round- headed nails in the centre, two rows on the outside, and square- headed nails in the heels. Remanded to Appleby Gaol, until 2nd instant, upon a charge of burglary of Silver Plate,' oh the night of 23rd ultimo, at Bongate Hall : VALENTINE SCAMEL, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, light coloured whiskers and moustache, slender figure, mark of a stab below nipple, and anchor on left arm ; dressed in black soft billycock hat, blue prist great coat, velvet collar, one pocket left breast, two pockets right side, one left side with flaps, grey tweed jacket, sack back, three outside pockets set on outside, horn buttons white in centre, rough brown single- breasted vest, light grey rough tweed trousers, pockets in seams, common horn buttons, half water- tight boots, tartan scarf, bluo and white stripe winsey shirt. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Spencer, Constabulary Office, Appleby, or at the County Chief Constables Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, April 1. Stolen by means of burglary, on 27th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of C. W. Dawes, Esq., Burton : a silver Inkstand, with taper; a silver lamp Inkstand ; an electro- plated large Salt Cellar ; a silver- gilt Snuff Box ; enamel do. with miniature; bloodstone do. ; and two silver tops of Seals. Supposed by two men who took train at Horsham the same morning for London Bridge, one is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion, dark moustache and whiskers, cut short; dressed in long dark coat and trousers, and soft felt hat. The other is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, moustache, and whiskers ; dressed in long dark coat and trousers, and hard felt hat. Can be identified. E.'; Cruet for six bottles ; the Tops of the bottles ; Top of mustard pot and Spoon, sugar Tongs ; large gravy Spoon ; five table Spoons ; one dessert Spoon ; nine tea Spoons ; two salt Spoons ; and four table Forks, all marked ' E. W. G.' ; two table Spoons ; one dessert Spoon ; one mustard Spoon ; two salt Spoons ; and four table Forks, all marked with crest— lion rampant and a branch in paw ; an egg Spoon, marked ' M. E.'; an old tea Spoon, marked ' S. Stolen between the night of 15th, and morning of 16th instant, by means of housebreaking, at Milngavie : 12 silver tea Spoons, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' R'; 5 extra heavy silver tea Spoons, plain pattern, with letters ' D. B.' stamped on them ; 10 silver tea Spoons, queen's pattern, stamped wjth letter ' A'; 10 silver dessert Spoons, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' A'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' R.' Stolen, by means of burglary, between 10 p. m. 26th, and 5 a. m. on 27th ultimo, from Mistley- place, Manningtree : a silver Inkstand, on four feet, inscribed ' Presented to the Revd. C. F. Norman on his resigning the Rectorship of Portishead in 1867/ ; a large quantity of Italian pieces of Money, like sixpences, with the image of the late Pope ; a silver Flower Vase ; a Norman school Medal; a large gold Sea1, with owl crest, initials ' W. H. N.' ; a large gold Seal, with crest dove and olive branch, and coat of arms ; an old gold wedding Ring ; £ 800 iu Promissory Notes, the amounts averaging from £ 250 to £ 2 10s., payable to the Reverend C. F. Novman ; 10 new Sovereigns; £ 5 in Silver Monies; and a Mordauut's patent tubular Key of iron safe. About 1 p. m. ou 25th instant, the house of Rich. James, of Tynywern, near Corwen, Merionethshire, was entered and the following property of Wearing Apparel stolen therefrom : a black cloth Jacket, Vest and Trousers, nearly new, the jacket was braided all round and trimmed with black buttons, pockets on hips with flaps ; a pair of brown plaid cloth Trousers ; a pair of elastic side Boots, man's size ; and a light coloured Muffler, with large flower in the middle and red border. By a tramp, from 24 to 26 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high,| fresh complexion, and small sandy mous- tache. Was seen near Llangollen about 7 p. m. on the same day going towards England, and was then wearing the stolen jacket and vest, also the brown plaid trousers and boots, and wearing a shabby cap with peak. Information to be given to Sergeant Williams, Corwec, Merionethshire. — Bow- street, March 29. During the night of 18th instant, the rectory at Bils- thovpe, was broken into, and stolen therein: a gold lever Watch, open- face, engraved dial, - J- plate, duplex, No. 2592, maker Jas. Murray, with crest, and the motto - Tria juncta in uno' on HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen b. etjveen 10' 45 p. m. 27th and 2 a. ni. 28tli ultimo, from a stable at Mansion- house- street, Lambeth : a light chesnut horse Pony, aged, 13J hands high, star on forehead, knees slightly chipped, hair rubbed off on upper part of tail, and mane cut very short; a light Spring Cart, painted dark green, picked out with light green, open work on sides and back; aud a set of brass mounted Harness. Supposed by the carman, 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in bi own overcoat, dark cloth trou- sers, side- spring boots, and ha; d felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, April 1. Stolen at 6' 30 p. m. 21st ultimo, from Bedford- place, Bloomsbury: a dun colour mare Pony, and a Cart painted green, and slate coloured wheels, ' Felix Bourdon, 58, King's- road, Saint Pancras,' on shaft.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 1. Stolen from a field adjoining the highway, leading from Knockin to Maesbrook, on the night of 28th ultimo : a fat Shropshire Dowu yearling Sheep, marked letter 1 L.' on one side, and recently burled, the property of Mi" R. Loyd; farmer, Knockin. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Barratt, Kinnerley, Shrop- shire.— Bow- street, April 1. Further particulars respecting the Horse, Cart, and Harness stolen from Redhill, advertised in the Police Gazette of 27th ultimo : one of the sets of Harness was a chaise set, nearly new, silver mounted, with the initials ' E. L.' on the same, one of the other sets had stains on the end of the reins ; the Horse has a hole in one of his hind hoofs ; and the Cart is a small tradesman's mahogany, one panel painted dark green, with a white line, one new shaft, and one shaft much larger than . the other, ' Edward Lambert' on the off shaft. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rogers, Red- hill, Surrey.— Bow- street, April 1. Stolen from the Stork Hotel, Birmingham, on 16th inst., by a man who gave the name of NUNTER, wdio is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, thin made, dark hair, then wearing whiskers, moustache, and beard ; dressed in a long blue ulster overcoat with band, hard billycock hat, and blue worsted muffler round his neck : a bay Horse, 7 years old, 16 hands high, white hind fetlocks, white star on forehead, and had recently a sore crest; and a four- wheeled dog Cart, painted chocolate colour, picked out with red, had a brake thereon, and contained drab- coloured cushions ; and a set of silver- plated Harness, with monogram on. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Mr. Sankey, of the Victoria Hotel, Albert- road, Aston, to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the recovery of the property, and con- viction of the offender. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Bond, Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 29. Stolen from a field, at Hednesford, on 16th instant; the property of Mr. Joseph Poole : a dark roan Horse, 16 hands high, 5 years old, iu fair condition, and has been fired on hind fetlocks. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Wallsall, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Police Station, Hednesford, near Stafford. — Bow- street, March 27. Further information respecting the fifteen Sheep stolen from Dowdeswell, and advertised in Police Gazette of 18th instant : the sheep have been traced and found sold in Tewkesbury Market. By a man about 22 years of age, slender make, dark features, brown hair, slight moustache, little or no whiskers ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark or grey trousers, hard felt hat, and leather leggings; had tho appearance of a farmer's son ; he employs ' a boy to drive sheep into market, and enters them to be sold by auction ; he is suspected to be the same man charged - with stealing ten sheep on 12th August, 1876 ( see Police Gazette 23rd August 1876), and for stealing fourteen Sheep, on 31st Jan., 1877 ; the first lot was found sold in Gloucester Market, the second in Hereford Market, both lots having been stolen in Here fordshire, and both disposed of as abo- e. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Office,' North- leach, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 27. Supposed stolen from Draycott Park, near Chippenham, since lst instant : a chesnut mare Pony, about 12 hands high, rather aged, has a white mark on forehead, two white heels, and rather a greyish tail. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Baldwin, Chippenham, Wiltshire.— Bow- street, March 25. Stolen from a field at Yardley, on the morning of 22nd instant: a fat Sheep, black face, marked with the letter ' D. on the back, and a dot on the head, both with red raddle. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, or to Inspector Prosser, Solihull, Warwickshire.-— — Bow- street, March 25. LARGE MIT AID EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of ANNIE PRITCHARD who absconded from Shoreham, Sussex, on 23rd ultimo, charged cn a warrant with stealing from her lodgings : a silver verge Watch ; a gold Chain, cylinder pattern; a gold mourning ring, monogram— an open book ; a pair of jet Bracelets, a piece of black Silk, and a small quantity of white Lace. She is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3£ inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, worn plain; dressed in a black felt hat, black feather, black dress, heavily trimmed with black velvet, and brown ulster. Had in her possession a new grey costume, a black alpaca dress, two new dark cloth jackets, and a black bonnet trimmed with crape. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Parnell, West Sussex Constabulary, Steyning, or to Sergeant Denman, Shoreham.— Bow- street, April 3. Description of JAMES BROCKLESS, of Moreton Pinkney, Northamptonshire, grocer's assistant, charged on warrant with stealing from a trap, near Towcester, between 7 and 8 p. m. on the night of 14th instant : a black leather Hand- bag, containing £ 250, since recovered : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slight build, fresh complexion, small features, brown hair, whiskers, and slight moustache ; was wearing dark grey jacket, vest, and trousers, all of same material. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Norman, County Constabulary, Towcester, North- amptonshire, from whom a photograph may be had on application.— Bow- street, April 3. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement; a man about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, sallow complexion, light brown hair, light and watery eyes, foreign appearance, slight build ; dressed flashily, wears white or very light scarf with pin, waistcoat of a clerical cut. He is a great billiard player, and drinks freely, and he left Manchester about llth « nltimo. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable of Manchester.— Bow- street, April 3. 1 Absconded from Thetford, on 28th ultimo,, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : EDWARD WM. WILSON, drillman in a foundry, 35| or 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown curly hair, light whiskers aud moustache, full chest, walks upright and quickly, talks quickly, and colours up when spoken to ; dressed in a black cloth overcoat, black trousers, low hard black hat, and supposed elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Inspector White, Police Station, Thetford, Norfolk.— Bow- street, April 3. Description of a tramp, charged with stealing two Coats and three pairs of Trousers, from the New Inn public- house, at St. Columb, Cornwall, on 22nd ultimo, the property of the innkeeper, Mr. Francis Davey : he is about 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout built, light moustache, no beard or whiskers; frequents low lodging- houses and beer shops, for the purpose of singing and playing a tin whistle, and is known by the name of FRED ; was last seen in the neighbourhood of Camelford, wearing some of the stolen property, and carrying the other in a bundle, viz. : a dark blue double- breasted coat, pockets outside; a blue ribbed do ible- bi easted coat, pockets outside ; a pair of Trousers, wit'i black, brown, and grey stripes ; one pair with black and jrey, and the other with wide brown stripes, all very good. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Marshall, Truro, or to Inspector Middle, St. Columb, Cornwall.— Bow- street, April 1. Further description of the man charged with stealing a Watch and Chain from a dwelling- house at Swanscombe, on 15th ultimo, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th ultimo: his name is CHARLES DAWES, a tailor by trade, has worked at the Army and NaVy Clothing Stores, Chelsea, about 6 months since, and about a month since was working at a tailors in the City, and lodged at or near the Lower Marsh, Lambeth. He is now supposed to be in that locality, he did belong a few months since to i he Engineer Volunteers in the City of London. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 1. Stolen from the shop door of Mr. Edward Proctor, Market- place, LTttoxeter, on 30th ultimo : a black cloth reefer Coat, new, velvet collar, pockets on hips, one inside left breast, and ticket pocket in right side, lined with dark tweed cloth, white pearl buttons, and has a piece of velvet under each button, diamond shape. Supposed by a man who was seen loitering in front of the shop, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender make, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, moleskin trousers, and round felt hat, all very dirty with clay marks. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Inspector Barrett, Town Hall, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., April 1. Absconded oil 22nd instant, from 86, Baker- street, Mary- lebone, stealing about £ 200 : JOSEPH BENTLEY, cashier and clerk, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, very broad shoulders, stooping gait, and weighs 16 stone ; dressed in blue coat, grey trousers, and high hat, Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, April 1. Absconded from Dundee, on 22nd instant, and wanted there on a sheriff's warrant for embezzling about £ 60, the property of a firm of railway carriers at Dundee, in whose employment he has been as collector for the last 12 years : PETER SOUTAR, a native of Forfarshire, 42 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, thin light brown whiskers and moustache ; usually dressed in a dark tweed suit, with black felt hat. Was at one time a railway porter, and may try to get employment on a railway or with some carting agent. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- • dent Demar, Central Police Chambers, Dundee, Forfar.— Bow- street, March 29. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing money from the cash box at the County Gaol, in Ipswich, on 17th instant : GEORGE MOBBS, chief warder at the gaol, 45 years of age, looks older, 6 feet 2 inches high, grey hair, whiskers, and moustache, cut short,, stout build, full eyes, red face, has a military appearance ; dressed when last seen in dark soft billycock hat, dark brown speckled coat and vest,, blue overcoat and trousers ( uniform). Has been a warder at the Convict Prison at Borstal, Rochester. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fisher, County Police Station, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, March 29. Description of WALTER WATTS, engine driver, who absconded from Soundwell on 27th ultimo, charged with two other men now awaiting their trial at the ensuing Quarter Sessions, at Gloucester, with breaking and entering a ware- house at Siston Hill and stealing 89 lbs. of Candles, 80 fowls' Eggs, a Hamper, half bushel of Indian Corn, and a Sack; the property of Sidney Hapton Hadley, Esq. He is 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, slight build, thin face, and sallow complexion ; dressed in dark blue serge coat, fustian trousers and waist- coat. Was sentenced to six months, hard labour, and 5 years police supervision on 17th October, 1876, for larceny. Was previously convicted, 15th March, 1856, at Wenlock Sessions, for housebreaking, and sentenced to 4 years penal servitude. She was convicted of felony at Stafford, on 30th December, 1872, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude ; she was liberated on license on 28th September, 1877 ; her sentence expires on 29th December, 1879.
