Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A. Description, as ascmcUe as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. fig Sfoifioiitg, Xotice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information'respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that • an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be snade. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Peberdy, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, March 25. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the City of Hereford, on the evening of 14th instant : a large size gold Geneva Watch, spider second hands, No. 81908. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Davies, Police Office, City of Hereford.— Bow- street, Mar. 18. Stolen from the person on the night of 11th instant, while asleep, at Clifford Court, Herefordshire : an English lever Watch, double figures, glass about size of a shilling, with small piece broken out, steei chain, with ljd. Piece attached, maker T. C. Skarratt, Kington, No. 5125 ; a French Piece, about the size of a 2s. piece ; and a red Handkerchief, with white border. Supposed by tramping drovers. Information to be given to Sergeant Ovens, Whitney, Herefordshire.— Bow- st., March 15. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. ( saa back), pockets set on outside, and dark grey tweed.' vest,, trousers pockets in the seams, black felt hat, and shoes. He- had when at Lancaster trousers and old coat in a bundle, tied up in, an handkerchief. Information to be given to Inspector Shields, County Constabulary, Kendal, or at the County Chief. Constable's Office,. Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- streetf March 18. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded on the morning of 9th instant, charged with stabbing Michael Brian, in Dock- street, Newport, at 11 p. m., • on 8th instant : THOMAS JACKSON, a labourer, 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slightly built, dark hair, slight tlark moustache, no whiskers, dark complexion, thin featured, and slightly pockmarked ; dressed in dark coat and vest, moleskin trousers, and soft bowler hat. Has been to sea and may try to ship again in some port, had no money when he left, and belongs to Newport. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Newport, Monmouthshire.—' Bow- street, March 11. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Maliciously set fire to, a stack of Hay, situate in a field at Nobold, near Shrewsbury ; the property of Mr. James Massey. The whole of it was destroyed, as well as a Waggon and a Cart. £ 10 reward is offered by Mr. Massey for such ' information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr, Superintendent Howells, County Constabulary, 1, Queen- street, Castle Fields, Shrewsbury, or to Police Sergeant Thomas, Meole Beace, near Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, March 18. FORGERY. Absconded from Crewe about six. weeks ago, EPHRAIM LEE, late Believing Officer to the Nantwich Union, charged with forgery : lie is about 33 years of age, about 5 ft. 10 ins. high, thin build, very pale complexion, oval face, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and very small moustache. Information to be given to Acting Superintendent Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 22. Description of ROBERT BLYTH, formerly a clerk, but latterly a general carman, charged with forgery of an Acceptance of a Bill of Exchange, for £ 50 : he is 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, fair com- plexion, ginger whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, grey eyes, round features, rather bow legged, walks erect; usually dressed in a grey tweed suit, with round hard black felt hat, generally wears a light- coloured tweed ulster overcoat ; is a native of Northumberland, and was lately a partner in the firm of Messrs. Blyth, Bros., general carmen, Grainger, West Farm, Newcastle- on- Tyne. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Northumberland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 22. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the persons at Loughborough Steeple Chases, on 20th instant: 1 silver Geneva Watch, No. 55167, and ' 5 o/ o' scratched inside the case. 1 silver Watch, with thick fiat face, No. 12935. [ 1 silver Geneva Watch, No. 40741, seconds hands broken off. 1 silver lever Watch, No. 26414. I large silver verge Watch, ' Lebbu Woodhead, Esq.' engraved on cap, and heavy cases. I silver Geneva Watch, No. 86189, chased case, dented on outside, and steel hands. ' 1 silver verge Watch, name P. Grimland, No. 4960. 1 silver lever hunting Watch, bought of Wainwright, jeweller, Leicester. 1 silver lever Watch, seconds hands, yellow coloured dial. 1 silver verge hunter Watch, No. 4238, ' J. Woodward' engraved on back of inner case, and Moira West Coast on No. plate. Stolen between the night of 15th, and morning of 16th instant, by means of housebreaking, at Milngavie : 12 silver tea Spoons, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' R'; 5 extra heavy silver tea Spoons, plain pattern, with letters ' D. B' stamped on them ; 10 silver tea Spoons, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' A'; 10 silver dessert Spoon3, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' A'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, queen's pattern, stamped with letter ' R.' Stolen by means of burglary between 10 p. m. 19th and & a. m. on 20th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. Sydney Bull, of Parsonage Farm, Saunderton : a chased silver pint Cup, inscription ' Presented by Revd. Partridge to Mr. Humphrey Bull ;' a plain silvar pint Cup, inscription ' Presented by the Aylesbury Board of Guardians to Mr. Humphrey Bull,' with the names of the guardians on; two silver Table Spoons, marked ' A. S. B.;' two Salt do., marked ' S. M. B.;' child's silver Spoon and Fork; silver Butter Knife; 1J doz, plated Tea Spoons ; 1 doz. Dessert Spoons and Table Forks ; 1J doz. Information to be given to Chief Constable Campbell, County Buildings, Stirling.— Bow- street, March ] 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed stolen from Draycott Park, near Chlppesham, since 1- st instant : a ehesnut mare Pony, about 12 hands- high, rather aged, has a white mark on forehead, two white heels, and rather a greyish tail. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Baldwin, Chippenham, Wiltshire.— Bow- street., March 25. Stolen from a field at Yardley, on the morning, of 22nd instant: a fat Sheep, black face, marked with the letter ' D. on the back, and a dot on the head, both with red raddle. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, or to Inspector Prosser, Solihull, Warwickshire.— — Bow- street, March 25. Stolen by means of burglary from Casterton Rectory, Westmorland, on 13tli instant : eight crown Pieces in a strong calico bag ; three Half- crowns, three or four Florins, forty Shillings, sixty to seventy Sixpences, 1877 coinage, had not been previously circulated, they were in a liolland bag, such as is used by bankers ; about £ 4 in silver, consisting of Is. 6d. 4d. and 3d. Pieces, this money was in small print bags, one of them had ' 4d.' written on it. Suposed by a man, who in making a purchase on the same day at Lancaster, paid seven crown- pieces, a florin, and a shilling, of last year's coinage, he is from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, and black moustache ; dressed when at Lancaster in pilot greatcoat, brown check tweed suit, jacket Stolen during the night from Bray, Berks.:, a grey Gelding, about 7 years old, 16 hands high, carriage bred; sticks his head out, stands a little over at knees, has a lihtlfe hair rubbed off on near hip and off shoulder ; a strong built Spring Cart, painted blue, wood axletree, and has chains, to let the tailboard down ; a nearly new chaise Harness, brass mounted ; an old chaise Harness, brass mounted ; and a> riding Saddle, marked ' R. H.' Information to be given to the Superin- tendent., Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead. — Bow- street, March 22. Stolen from a stable at Little Bolas, Hodnet, Salop, during the night of 19th instant; the property of Mrs. Ann Jennings : a grey hack Mare, aged, 15 hands* 2 inches high, both knees ^ broken, and fired on both Iliad legs ; also a Cart Bridle. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Haines, of Whitchurch, or to Sergeant, Owens, Wem, Salop. — Bow- st., March 22. Stolen about 1 a. m., on 19th instant, from a stable and cart shed at Barley, Herts, the property of Mr. Downham : a chesnut well bred Mare, 3 years old, 14J- hands high, white face, sore shoulders, a fast trotter ;, a dog Cart, d » rk picked out with red, ' Kent, Saffron Walden, Essex,' on raps of axle, nearly new, both moveable by a knob at back ; a. set of silver mounted Harness, nearly new ; a riding Saddle and Bridle ; and 2 Sacks, supposed to have the name of Downham thereon. By a man, about 35 years of age, dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat, and low brown felt hat. Was traced tlurough Ware and Tottenham, at tho latter place about 6 a. m., going in the direction of London. At that time is supposed to have with him some fowls, stolon- near Ware. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give information that will lead to the conviction of the offender, and recovery of the stolen property. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Cocksedge, Royston, Herts.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen from a field at Tutbury, during the night of 14th instant : a strong black horse Cob, 13J hands high, aged, has a white star on forehead, one white hind foot, undipped, and in good condition, Yalue £ 26. Information to be given to. Mr. Superintendent Bowen, Police Office, Burton- on- Trent, or to Sergeant Langdon, Tutbury, Burton- on- Trent, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen about 9' 30 p. m., on 18th instant, from the premises of Charles Waller, at Meldreth, near Royston : a roan nag Horse, since recovered. By JOHN MORRIS, of 32, Oldham street, Liverpool, 28 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 8J inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, tuft on chin, and moustache, curled at ends, lost front teeth of top and bottom jaw, tattoo marks on left forearm of anchor and English and American flags crossed. And a man whose name is unknown, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stoutly built, sandy whiskers and moustache of about a fortnights growth ; dressed in felt hat, brown overcoat, blue undercoat, black cloth waistcoat, with stand up collar, black scarf, with white stripe, and horse- shoe pin, and spring side boots. Both men came into the neighbourhood by Great Northern train, and the man not in custody the same night also stole a Horse, Cart, and set of Harness, at Barley, Herts, and drove by wi y of Ware, to London. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Chesterton- road, Cambridge, or to Inspector Dade, Arlington, near Royston, Cambridgeshire.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen during the night of 11th instant, from a field at Dowdeswell : 15 fat Sheep, cross bred and long wooled, four ofgthem are black faced, five marked with letter ' C' on side, two marked on the loins, and four marked on the head with red ruddle. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner, Mr. Appei'ley, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Sheep. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Northleach, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, March 18. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from the dwelling- house of John Sirett, Chipping Norton, Oxon, between 18tli and 21st instant: 3 Sovereigns, 7 Shilling's ; a pair of drab tweed Trousers, not lined ; a blue checked cotton Shirt; and a brown knitted Glove. Supposed " by a tramping tailor, 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, and slight dark moustache; dressed in a grey tweed suit, much worn. Information to he given to Mr. Superintendent Lakin, Chipping Norton, Oxon.— Bow- street, March 25. Description of JOSEPH MILLARD, charged with till robberies at Heading on 12tli instant : 21 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, rather light complexion, and pale thin face ; usually dressed in black felt hat, brown overcoat or dark jacket, and cord trousers ; is a slater by trade, and has been a soldier, and several times convicted of larceny. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Beading, Berkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 25. Description of WILLIAM LLOYD, charged with stealing a pair of Boots, at Willenhall, on 12th instant, recovered : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, slender build, and dark slight moustache, whiskers shaved off; dressed in black soft billycock hat, black jacket, vest, and trousers, pink striped shirt, and elastic boots ; by trade a cordwainer. Supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Birmingham. Information to be given to Inspector G- asson, Constabulary Office, Willenhall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 25. Description of CHARLES COLLENS, surgeon, charged on warrant with embezzling money at Barrowden : he is about 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, clark brown liair, small whiskers, full face, broad shoulders, he wears his bat low in front to conceal an old scar on forehead. He left Oakham on 13th instant, ancl will no doubt seek employment as an assistant surgeon in some country village. He was living in London in October, 1876. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham, or to Mr. Superinten- dent Murfitt, Police Station, Uppingham, Rutlandshire.— Bow- street, March 25. Description of SYDNEY MORTON, charged with larceny at Reading on 27th October, 1877 : he is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rather thin build, very dark complexion, hair and eyes, supposed clean shaved, is of gentlemanly appearance and manners, speaks slowly ancl distinctly. He is accompanied by a young woman named Taw, about 23 years of age, short and thin, fair complexion and hair, and very pale thin face ; and also her brother, who is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inehes high, fair complexion, very pale and thin smooth face. All were in London last week. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading,^ Berkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 25. Stolen on 15th instant, from a workshop at Cullompton ; the property of George Gunn : a new panel Saw and a Mortice Gauge, both of which have been recovered. By a man 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, ratlier slight build, fresh complexion, thin features, thin _ light whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in dark blue cloth jacket and vest, dark cap, wearing a white apron, fringed at the bottom, grey shirt, striped necktie, and military appearance, Represented himself to be a cabinet- maker sesking employ- ment. He left Cullompton on 15th instant for Chard, where he disposed of the stolen articles and left again by 11 a. m. up- train on Saturday, 16th instant, for Weymouth, via., Crew- kerne and Yeovil, in search of work. Information, to be given to Mr. Superintendent Collins, C Division, Devon Consta- bulary, Cullompton.— Bow- street, March 22. Absconded on 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a silver Watch ( recovered) : CHARLES SMITH, a tramping painter, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, and whiskers ; dressed in an old black cloth coat, marked with spots of paint, dark trousers and vest, ancl black billycock hat. His wife resides at Bedford. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bailie, Police Station, Wellingboro, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 22. Absconded from Newcastle- under- Lyme on 15th instant, charged with embezzling £ 90, the Money of James Higson, his master : WILLIAM M. BUCKLEY, a barman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, grey eyes, pale complexion, thin features, small light moustache, slender make, rather round shouldered, has a small burn mark on right cheek, and wears four false teeth in upper jaw, one of which is broken ; dressed in a light grey tweed suit, black round felt hat, aud lace- up boots. He is a native of Man- chester and very fond of betting, horse- racing, & c., and pro- bably will make for a sea- port town. Aphoto can be sent on application. Information to be given to Sergeant Blytli, Borough Police Office, Newcastle- under- Lyme, Staffordshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 22. Absconded from Dundee, charged with having stolen £ 134 in mixed Bank Notes— four being £ 5 Notes and the remainder £ 1 Notes : THOMAS ROBERTSON, a lawyer's apprentice and native of Dundee, 14 years of age, pale face, large nose, brown hair, about 5 feet 3 inches high, slender make, and slightly bow legged ; dressed in pilot cloth jacket and check tweed trousers, black felt hat with crape, red striped stockings, ancl old boots. The accused, who was entrusted with the above sum to lodge in bank for his employer, absconded about noon on 19th instant. He is well educated, and will be likely to take up liis quarters at an hotel for a time, or he may attempt at once to go abroad. A Sheriff's warrant has been granted for his apprehension. A reward of £ 10 sterling is hereby offered to any person or persons who will give such information to Mr. Superintendent Dewar, Central Police Chambers, Dundee, as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the accused and the recovery of the stolen property, or in proportion to the amount of money recovered. — Bow- street, March 22, Stolen from the dwelling- house of Frederick Hall, of Swan wick, on 13th instant : an old- fashioned silver Geneva Watch. By JOHN PEACOCK, alias ALFRED SMITH, alias YORKE, a farm labourer or navvy, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion, long face, hair turning grey, and does not shave; dressed in fustian coat, waistcoat and trousers, the bottoms much worn, and wore a Scotch cap. Recently worked on the new line of railway at Derby, and is " supposed to have a wife and child living at Hucknall Torkard, Notts. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Coope, Alfreton, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension — Bow- street, March 22. Stolen from a bed- room at the Elephant and Castle Hotel, Yeovil, on 19th instant : a double- cased silver Geneva Watch, letters ' A. M. C.' inside back case, and letter ' A.' outside of front case in ccntre. By a man about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in dark coat, trousers, and vest, and bowler hat, and attends race- cources. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Smith, Yeovil, Somersetshire.— Bow- st., March 22. Description of MARK KENNEDY, an Irishman, charged with stealing a quantity of Hen and Duck Eggs, and. who absconded from New Leake on 14th instant : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, and stoutly built; dressed in pepper- and- salt coat, cord trousers, and cloth cap with peak ; works as a bricklayer's labourer, ancl stated that lie was going to Lincoln. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 20. Further information respecting the charge of embezzle- ment by GEORGE HILLMAN, late of Burnham, Bucks, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 25th ultimo : a reward of £ 10 will be given for his apprehension and conviction. He is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, very dark com- plexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, whiskers shaved off, small tuft on chin, which is a little sandy, slightly round shouldered, and a little bowlegged; supposed dressed in a rough pilot coat or jacket, grey checked trousers and vest, elastic- side boots, and hard felt hat. Has been employed as milkman and to look after stock, and is likely to apply for a similar post. He is well known at Croydon, Deptford, and Lewisham, having worked there previous to his coming to Burnham. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Slouth, or to Sergeant Manelly, Burnham, Bucks, who ho'ds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 20. Description of ELIZA PETO, who absconded from St. Thomas's Home, at Basingstoke, on 17th instant, charged with stealing from sister Madeleine : a lady's silver Watch, a black cloth cloak with hood, marked on tape ' S. Was sentenced to 10 years penal servitude, and 7 years police supervision, at Bradford, December 1st, 1869, for stealing Powder, & c., and was previously convicted at Derby, in July, 1850, for larceny, committed for 1 month ; Derby, in October, 1852, for larceny, sentenced to 7 years penal servitude ; Notts, June, 1856, for larceny, sentenced to 4 years penal servitude. He was sentenced at York Assizes to 5 years penal servitude on 20th March, 1874, for burglary in a dwelling- house. No. V 110, a convict on license, who left Burslem without notifying the same :. lie is about 49 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, medium build, marks— five blue spots on back cf right hand, cut corner of right eye and on forehead, lost all upper teeth and one lower tooth, nearly bald, and double ruptured ; dressed in a dark cap with peak, dark mixture loose jacket, single breasted, buttoned up to chin, cotton cord trousers, and lace- up boots. He was convicted at Stafford on 18th October, 1869, and sentenced to 10 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision. He is now charged with stealing a quantity of Lead, and will most likely apply at some Union for relief, as lie has no money. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 20, Description of convict license holder ANTHONY MORLEY, who left Bolton on 1st instant, without reporting himself, after having uttered several base and counterfeit florins: 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, long face, Roman nose, eyebrows meet, scrofula marks both sides of neck, right thumb nail fractured, and tattooed on right side, & c.; was dressed in returned convict's clothing, and hard black billycock liat. He was convicted of larceny at Salford Sessions on 8th July, 1872, and sentenced ot 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision, and has also been previously convicted at ( Preston Sessions for uttering base coin at Blackburn.
