Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information" respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, shouldjjbe forwarded oil War Office Eorms 83 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUEBEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded on the morning of 9th instant, charged with stabbing Michael Brian, in Dock- street, Newport, at 11 p. m., on 8th instant : THOMAS JACKSON, a labourer, 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slightly built, dark liair, slight dark moustache, no whiskers, dark complexion, thin featured, and slightly pockmarked; dressed in dark coat and vest, moleskin trousers, and soft bowler hat. Has been to sea and may try to ship again in some port, had no money when he left, and belongs to Newport. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Newport, Monmouthshire,— Bow- street, March 11. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Maliciously set fire to, a stack of Hay, situate in a field at' Nobold, near Shrewsbury; the property of Mr. James Massey. The whole of it was destroyed, as well as a Waggon and a Cart. £ 10 reward is offered by Mr. Massey for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the City of Hereford, on the evening of 14tli instant : a large size gold Geneva Watcli, spider second hands, No. 81908. information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Davies, Police Office, City of Hereford.— Bow- street, Mar. 18. Stolen from the person on the night of 1 ltli instant, while asleep, at Clifford Court, Herefordshire : an English lever Watch, double figures, glass about size of a shilling, with small pieca broken out, steel chain, with l^ d. Piece attached, maker T. C. Skarratt, Kington, No. 5125 ; a French Piece, about the size of a 2s. piece ; and a red Handkerchief, with white border. Supposed by tramping drovers. Information to be given to Sergeant Ovens, Whitney, Herefordshire.— Bow- st., March 15. Stolen on 1st instant, from the person of John McFearn, at Fulford, E. R. Yorks : a gold Watch ; a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, Locket attached, with lady's Likeness inside, on back of case ' J. M. F.' Information to be given to Inspector Blanchard, Escrick, E. R. Yorkshire.— Bow- street March 13. Description of HENRY SMITH, charged with highway i- obbery with violence, at Kendal, on 2nd instant : 18 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 5j- inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, slight moustache, and mole on left shoulder; dressed in new black cloth jacket, white cord vest, white cotton cord trousers, mended at the knees, pair of new • elastic- side boots, and Scotch cap. He is a native of Lazonby, Cumberland, and deserted from the 55th Regiment, at Car- lisle, on 28th ultimo. He and two other men and two women, who committed the robbery, were traced to Manchester, where the other four were apprehended. Information to be given to. Chief Constable Campbell, County Buildings, Stirling.— Bow- street, March 18. Stolen by means of burglary from Casterton Rectory, Westmorland, on 13th instant : eight crown Pieces in a strong- calico bag; three Half- crowns, three or four Florins, forty Shillings, sixty to seventy Sixpences, 1877 coinage, had not been previously circulated, they were in a holland bag, such as is used by bankers ; about £ 4 in silver, consisting of Is. 6d. 44- and 3d. Pieces, this money was in small print bags, one of them had ' 4d.' written on it. Suposed by a man, who in making a purchase on the same day at Lancaster, paid seven crown- pieces, a florin, and a shilling, of last year's coinage, he is from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark completion, and black moustache ; dressed when at Lancaster in pilot greatcoat, brown check tweed suit, jacket ( sac back), pockets set on outside, and dark grey tweed vest, trousers pockets in the seams, black felt hat, and shoes. He had when at Lancaster trousers and old coat in a bundle, tied up in an handkerchief. Information to be given to Inspector Shields, County Constabulary, Kendal, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, March 18. Stolen, by mews of burglary, during the night of 9th instant, from the dwelling- house of Josiah Collins, Acock's Green : an electro- plated Coffee Pot, marked ' J. C.', and a black, amber and blue woollen Antimacassar ; a pair of Merino Drawers; a flannel Shirt; a twill Night Shirt, marked with a red cross; two Chemises, marked ' Jamie Youug'; a pair of lady's lace- up Boots ; a pair of man's spring- side Boots ; a pair of grey knitted Socks ; six small Prongs; two electro- plated Salts; a meerschaum Pipe, mounted in silver; a white cotton Antimacassar ; a music Book, bound in leather with gilt letters, ' J. Warren' on side; a black ebony Stereoscope, mounted in pearl; a green baize Cloth ; six Tea Spoons ; and several dinner Napkins, marked in black in ' J. Collins. Information to be givou to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, Warwickshire.— Bow- st., March 15. During the night of 10th instant, the dwelling- house of John Jones, Esq., Mossfield', Whitchurch, Salop, was broken and entered by cutting out a panel iu the door with a centre bit, and stolen therein : eighteen plated fish Knives and Forks, with plated handles ; and about £ 5 iu Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Haines, or to Sergeant Lear, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, March 13. On the 10th instant, between 6.30 and 9.30 p. m., the dwelling- house of Mr. John Jerrome, Brewery- street, Handsworth, was broken and entered and stolen therein : A small silver four- angled Brooch, one topaz stone in each angle. A gold plated cameo Brooch, with figure of a woman's head and neck. A small dress Ring, with three red stones fixed in it. A gold plated wire- worked Brooch, with two coral fuchsias dropped down between wires. A small gold Locket, blue enamelled, and photograph of a man inside. A man's Jersey, striped amber and black. A pair of elastic- side Boots. A pair of white cricket Trousers. A pair of merino Drawers. A Half- Sovereign, and some Silver. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Whitehurst, Police Station, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Michael Peatman, at Fetchill Moor, parish of Ellesmere, by means of house- breaking, about 2 p. m. on 5th instant: a pair of light coloured grey cloth Trousers, fly fronts, pockets in front, and ribbed down the side of each leg, made small in legs, suitable for a groom. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 7 inches high, middle age, thin face, dark coRiplexioij and whiskers, and has the appearance of a German sailor, walked with a stick, and turned one foot out; dressed in blue cloth cheesecutter cap, dark blue or black round jacket, old blue trousers, torn in several places. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, March 11. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 1 and 5 p. m. on 6th instant, the property of Emanuel Ridgeway, of Broughton, labourer : a black cloth shooting Coat, small diamond pattern, two pockets outside, one inside left breast ; a double- breasted grey cloth Yest ; Trousers to match, with fly fronts ; a brown cloth Coat, two pockets outside, one inside left breast; a grey cloth Vest; Trousers to match, and darned at the right knee ; a pair of brown Stockings, all men's size ; a silver albert Guard, snake- pattern, small oval gold Locket attached ; a small black Shawl, with black and white border ; a small light Shaw), with dark border. Supposed by two- men : one from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather dark complexion, thin face, brown hair, cut short; dressed in brown coat, moleskin trousers, dark cap. The other from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, full face, grey sunken eyes ; dressed in moleskin trousers, soft billycock hat, slop, and strong boots. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary Office, South Stockton, or to Acting Inspector Severs, Police- Station, Stokesley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 11. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of 11th instant, from a field at Dowdeswell : 15 fat Sheep, cross bred and long wooled, four offthem are black faced, five marked with letter ' C' on side, two marked on the loins, and four marked on the head with red ruddle. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner, Mr. Apperley, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction e£ the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Sheep. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Northi. Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, March 18. Stolen from the field opposite Mr. Robertson's house, at Over Stowey, . between 7th and 10th instant : a fat Devon wether hog Sheep, with two marks in the right ear. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Robertson to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, if stolen. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Mear, Williton, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen: three Cows in Calf— two roan, and the other nearly white ; the property of Mr. Russell, of Goodrest.. Supposed by a man about 5 feet 8 inches high ; he had a slop on ; he is believed to have a heavy moustache. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Franlston, Kenilworth, on- to Inspector Armishaw, Warwick.— Bow- st., March 15. Stolen from a field at Rixon Farm, Ashton - Keynes,. Wilts, between 9th and 11th instant;, the property of Mr. Emmanuel Broad, farmer : a fat half- teed wether Sheep, no mark. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Luffman, Police Station, Malmesbury, Wilts. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from a stable at Staincliffe, about 7 p. m. on 11th instant : a dark brown Mare, 15-^ hands high, near hind fetlock white, has a small ' jack' spavin on the off hind- hock,, in good condition. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, light brown whiskers and moustache, ordinary build ; dressed in dark brown cloth suit, and black cloth cap with broads flat top. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Airton, West. Riding Constabulary, Court House, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 13. Further information respecting the Sheep stolen from a., field at Shelvock, on the night of 1st instant i £ 20 rewards will be given to any person who will give such information as. shall lead to the apprehension of the offender or ( ffenders. Absconded on 10th instant, stealing from 70, Midway road, Islington: two £ 5 Bank of England Notes; two Cheques, in the name of Lazarus Rosenfold, one for £ 19 7s., one for £ 5 10s. lid. ; £ 3 in Gold ; a Life Security for £ 500 ; and a number of paid Bills, in name of Hugo Austroby : a woman ( servant), 10 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in black alpaca jacket, straw hat, ( feather), and side- spring boots ; likely to visit her brother at Mr. Payne's, upholsterer, Norwood, Surrey,— Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 18. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: JOHN BARKSHIRE, late of Victoria- street, Bordesley green- road, Birmingham, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, broad shoulders, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, also dark eyes, usually has a good colour in his cheeks, and has good teeth, pie has been a soldier in India, has friends living , at Reading, and is well known there. Information te be given to Sergeant Arnold, Police Office, Rushall, near Walsall, who holds a warrant for his arrest, or to Superintendent, Hill, Police Office, Brownhills, Stafford- shire.- - Bow- street, March 18. Absconded from Kettering, Northamptonshire, on 2nd instant, charged with stealing a silver Geneva " Watch, since found pledged in Leicester : THOMAS FROST, a currier, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale complexion, and very thin, light brown hair, slight light moustache, walks lame with left leg, and has sores or scars on neck ; dressed in old grey trousers, very greasy, old dark corded coat, hard billycock hat. CHARLOTTE FROST, his wife, about 18 years of age, about 5 feet high, fair complexion, thin face ; dressed in old violet dress, biack double- breasted jacket, and hat brimmed with black crape. They are both very shabby, and will be found in low beer houses, or low lodgings. Supposed gone to Nottingham or Mansfield. Information to be given to Inspector Barwell, Police Station, Kettering, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, Martih 18. Stolen from a - dwelling- house at Swanscombe, _ on 15th instant, by a man who lodged in the house the previous night : a silver Geneva Watch, name on face ' Crystal Palace Prize Medal,' and long silver Guard attached. He is about • 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, light whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black coat, striped trousers, felt hat,' coloured necktie, with white spots, and old pair cloth top boots. Supposed to have friends named Dawes, residing at Cobham, near Gravesend, and to be known at London Bridge and Charing Cross Railway Stations. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fread, Kent Con- stabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, March 18. Absconded from Biggleswade on 12th instant, charged • on- warrant with stealing a black cloth Coat and Waistcoat, and a white pocket Handkerchief; WILLIAM, alias NED GREEN, a tramping tailor, about 40 years of age, 5 ft. 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustaches ; is well known at Cambridge and Chatteris, where he has been employed on former " occasions. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bedlow, Police Station, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, March 18. Description of a woman, charged at Bolton, with stealing on 13th instant, a silver Geneva Watch, No. 14866 ; and a • quantity of Apparel, some of which has since been found pledged : she is about 49 years of age, R feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, rather slender made, dark hair, and wears two odd boots, one foot being very much swollen. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire.— Bow street, March 18. Description of WILLIAM ROBINSON, charged with embezzling £ 18 10s. 6d., the moneys of Mr. William L. Ball, brewer, Burton- on- Trent, for whom he had been travelling : be is about 50 years of age, but looks younger, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, medium build, is a shoemaker, and is also a barber. He is incessantly using snuff, and his upper lip generally bears traces of it, has no whiskers, and shaves all round his face. He lived at Grimsby for some time. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bowen, Police Office, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 18. Absconded from Abertillery, on 15th instant, charged under a warrant with embezzling £ 3 7s. 9d., the Monies of his master, Mr. James Fraser : WILLIAM PONSFORD EVANS, a clerk in the employ of the Brynmaur Coal and Iron Company, Limited,! 34 or 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionate make, dark swarthy complexion, black hair intermixed with grey, dark eyes, black tuft of hair on chin and moustache, small blue scar on back of left hand ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, brown tweed vest and trousers, black round hard hat, and lace- up boots, nailed. A native of Llandovery, Carmarthen- shire, is well known in Merthyr, Aberdare, Cardiff, Swansea, and Hereford, aud was employed as clerk in London some years ago. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Foil, Monmouth Constabulary, Tredegar, or to Sergeant Williams, Blaina, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 18, Stolen during the night of 13tli instant, from a granary ill Brad vvalls ; a blue pilot cloth Jacket, with velvet collar, nearly new ; the property of John Morrison. Suspicion is attached to a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, crooked nose, very red face, and of drunken appearance. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from a dwelling- house during the night of 24th ultimo : a brown cloth Overcoat, black velvet collar, black horn buttons with pockets on hips ; a light grey Jacket, pockets on hips, and one inside of left breast ; a pair of grey plaid Trousers and Vest to match ; a black hard Hat; a J lb. of Tea, ' Jones, Willow- street, Oswestry,' on wrapper ; a white linen Shirt and Collar ; and a dark Necktie with white stripes. By CHARLES TACKER, who lodged in the house about one mouth, 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light complexion, and hair very thin, except a tuft of hair on forehead, rather near- sighted, squints a little, and has a mark on left temple ; supposed dressed in the stolen grey coat, old black cloth trousers, hard hat, new strong lace- up boots, and a woman's white muffler scarf with red fringe. Stated that his father worked at Bass's Brewery, Burton- on- Trent, for 23 years, and that he worked there for 7 years, and is known in Chester, Nantwich, & c. Information to be given to Mr. . Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Shropshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 13. Charged with the larceny ( by means of a trick) of £ 48 10s., belonging to Edward Evans, farmer, Caemawr, Tryddyn, near Mold, at Wrexham Fair, on 7th instant : two men, one . about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair and moustache, rest of the face clean shaved, and has a nervous twitching in the eyes; dressed in a silk hat, necktie with horse- shoe and whip breast pin, aud dark brown overcoat, rather short. The other about 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender, grey hair, beard, and whiskers, cut short, does not shave, aud rcther shabby genteel appearance ; dressed in black cloth trousers, topcoat fitting tight round the body, long skirts, and silk hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Police Office, Wrexham, Denbighshire. — Bow- street, March 13. Absconded on 10th instant, from Sedgley, charged ( on warrant) with larceny : JEREMIAH FIELDING, 14 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion ; dressed in dark grey cloth jacket, three outside pockets, two on hips, and one on left breast, dark grey vest, dark plaid trousers, black billycock hat, and blucher boots. And JOSEPH PHIPPS, 14 years of age, 4 feet 7 or 8 ins. Jjigh, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, and blind of left eye ; dressed in light grey coat, vest, and trousers, black billycock hat, and la: ce- nip boots. They will be travelling together, and may probably visit Liverpool, Londua, Southampton, or Bristol, as they intend to emigrate to Australia. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Sedgley, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, March 13. Absconded on 9th instant, from 21, Bedfordbury, stealing a gold engine- turned English lever Wateh ; a gold Pin, set with amethyst; 2 black Coats, lined with Italian cloth : a pair of black Trousers, broad seam at sides, lined with white • calico i a black silk Scarf : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in grey coat, black trousers and vest, black hard felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 13. Description of PATRICK DAGNAN, charged on warrant with stealing £ 6 10s in Gold, 10s. in Silver, and a blue pilot cloth monkey Jacket: he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, full face, no whiskers, slight moustache, dark brown hair, cut short, rather crooked nose, walks erect, having been in the army ; dressed in a newish pilot elotli jacket, double- breasted, moleskin trousers, soft billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots, nearly new. Has relatives at or near Wigan, and the Old Swan, near Liverpool. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead, or to Inspector Hindley, Police Station, Egre- mont, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 11. Absconded, cluuged on a warrant with embezzling £ 140: Paymaster Sergeant SAMSON WILLS, late of 21st Hussars, 27 years of age ( looks younger), 5 feet 6J inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar right breast and leg, trade a clerk, was born at Arrow, Clare, Ireland ; dressed in Oxford tweed suit. He left Shorncliff'e Camp during the night of 5th instant. It is believed he will endeavour to leave the country, most likely for America.
