Absconded on the morning of 9tli instant, charged with stabbing Michael Brian, in Dock- street, Newport, at 11 p. m., on 8th instant : THOMAS JACKSON, a labourer, 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slightly built, dark hair, slight dark moustache, no whiskers, dark complexion, thin featured, and slightly pockmarked ; dressed in dark coat and vest, moleskin trousers, and soft bowler hat, Has been to sea and may try to ship again in some port, had no money when lie left, and belongs to Newport. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Newport, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, March 11. SOBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the night of lltli instant, while asleep, at Clifford Court, Herefordshire : an English lever Watch, double figures, glass about size of a shilling, with small piecs broken out, steel chain, with lid. Piece attached, maker T. C. Skarratt, Kington, No. 5125 ; a French Piece, about the size of a 2s. piece ; and a red Handkerchief, with white border. Supposed by tramping drovers. Information to be given to Sergeant Ovens, Whitney, Herefordshire. — Bow- st., March 15 Stolen on 1st instant, from the person of John McFearn, at Fulford, E. R. Yorks : a gold Watch ; a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, Locket attached, with lady's Likeness inside, on back of case ' J. M. F.' Information to be given to Inspector Blanchard, Escrick, E. R. Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 13. Description of HENRY SMITH, charged with highway robbery with violence, at Kendal, on 2nd instant : 18 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, llue° eyes, brown hair, slight moustache, and mole on left shoulder; dressed in new black cloth jacket, white cord vest, white cotton cord trousers, mended at the knees, pair of new elastic- side boots, and Scotch cap. He is a native of Lazonby, Cumberland, and deserted from the 55th Regiment, at Car- lisle on 28th ultimo. He and two other men and two women, who' committed the robbery, were traced to Manchester, where the other four were apprehended. On the 10th instant, between 0.30 and 9.30 p. m., the dwelling- house of Mr. John Jerrome, Brewery- street, Handsworth, was broken and entered and stolen therein : A small silver four- angled Brooch, one topaz stone in each angle. A gold plated cameo Brooch, with figure of a woman's head and neck. A. small dress liing, with three red stories fixed in it. A gold plated wire- worked Brooch, with two cjral fuchsias dropped down between wires. A small gold Locket, blue enamelled, and photograph of a man inside. A man's Jersey, striped amber and black. -. A pair of elastic- side Boots. A pair of white cricket Trousers. A ; air o ' merino Drawers. A Half- Sovereign, and some Silver. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Whitehurst, Police Station, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Michael Peatman, at Fetchill Moor, parish of Ellesmere, by means of house- breaking, about 2 p. m. on 5th instant: a pair of light coloured grey cloth Trousers, fly fronts, pockets in front, and ribbed down the side of each leg, made small in legs, suitable for a groom. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 7 inches high, middle age, thin face, dark complexion and whiskers, and has the appearance of a German sailor, walked with a stick, and turned one foot out; dressed in blue cioth cheesecutter cap, dark blue or black round jacket, old blue trousers, torn in several places. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 1 and 5 p. m. on 6th instant, the property of Emanuel Ridgeway, of Broughton, labourer : a black cloth shooting Coat, small diamond paitern, two pockets outside, one inside left breast; a double- breasted grey cloth Yest; Trousers to match, with fly fronts ; a brown cloili Coat, two pockets outside, one inside left breast; a grey cloth Vest; Trousers to match, and darned at the right knee ; a pair of brown Stockings, all men's size ; a silver albert Guard, snake- pattern, small oval gold Locket attached ; a small black Shawl, with black and white border ; a small light Shawl, with dark border. Supposed by two men : one'from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather dark complexion, thin face, brown hair, cut short; dressed in brown coat, moleskin trousers, dark cap. The other from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, full face, grey sunken eyes ; dressed in moleskin trousers, soft billycock hat, slop, and strong boots. C.', and a black amber and blue woollen Antimacassar; a pair of Merino Drawers; a flannel Shirt; a twill Night Shirt, marked with a red cross; two Chemises, marked ' Jamie Young'; a pair of lady's lace- up Boots; a pair of man's KTJiin<?- side Boots ; a pair of grey knitted Socks ; six small Prongs- two electro- plated Salts; a meerschaum Pipe, mounted in silver; a white cotton Antimacassar ; a music Sook bound in leather with gilt letters, ' J. Warren' on side; a black ebony Stereoscope, mounted in pearl; a green baize Cloth • six Tea Spoons ; and several dinner Napkins, marked in black in ' J. Collins. Description of a man, charged with stealing 5 Sheep, at Northleacli, on 25th ultimo ( sheep since recovered sold in Oxford Market) : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high ; dressed in a long dark overcoat, dark trousers, hard felt hat, and old boots, the left split at heel. He gave the name of CHARLES WOODCOCK. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Office, Northleaeh, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, March 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from the field opposite Mr. Robertson's house, at Over Stowey, between 7th and 10th instant: a fat Devon wether hog Sheep, with two marks in the right ear. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Robertson to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, if stolen. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Mear, Williton, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen : three Cows in Calf — two roan, and the other nearly white ; the property of Mi-. Russell, of Goodrest. Supposed by a man about 5 feet 8 inches high ; he had a slop on ; he is believed to have a heavy moustache. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Frankton, Kenilworth, or to Inspector Armishaw, Warwick.— Bow- st., March 15. Stolen from a field at Rixon Farm, Asliton Keynes, Wilts, between 9th and 11th instant; the property of Mr. Emmanuel Broad, farmer : a fat half- bred wether Sheep, no mark. Information to be given to Mr. . Superintendent Luffman, Police Station, Malmesbury, Wilts. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from a stable at Staincliffe, about 7 p. m. on 11th instant : a dark brown Mare, 15- i hands high, near hind fetlock white, has a small' jack' spavin on the off hind hock, in good condition. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, light brown whiskers and moustache, ordinary build ; dressed in dark brown cloth suit, and black cloth cap with broad flat top. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Airton, West Biding Constabulary, Court House, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 13. Further information respecting the Sheep stolen from a field at Shelvock, on the night of 1st instant : £ 20 reward will be given to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the offender or < ffenders. A man of the following description hired a brown M arc, 15 hands high, about 10 years old, near hind fetlock white, both knees slightly marked, tail cut square ; a brown Wliite- chapel Drag, picked out with vermilion, blue cushions and tufts, ' Thomas Barnes, Builder, Chester,' on caps ; and a silver plated Harness, at Chester, on 25th ultimo, and has not since been heard of : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark bsard and moustache; dressed in dark LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen during the night of 13th instant, from a granary in Brad walls ; a blue pilot cloth Jacket, with velvet collar, nearly new ; the property of John Morrison. Suspicion ist attached to a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, crooked nose, very red face, and of drunken appearance. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Eowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from a dwelling- house during the night of 24th ultimo : a brown cloth Overcoat, black velvet collar, black horn buttons with pockets on hips ; a light grey Jacket., pockets on hips, and one inside of left breast ;. a pair of grey plaid Trousers and Vest to match ; a black hard llat ; a j lb. of Tea, * Jones, V^ illow- street, Oswestry,' on wrapper ; a white linen Shirt and Collar ; and a dark Necktie with white stripes. By CHARLES TACKER, who lodged in the house about one month, 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light complexion, and hair very thin, except a tuft of hair on forehead, rather liear- sighted, squints a little, and has a mark on left temple ; supposed dressed in the stolen grey coat, old black cloth trousers, hard hat, new strong lace- u^ i boots, and a woman's white muffier . scarf with red! -' Stated that his father worked at Bass's Brewery, Burton- on- Trent, for 23 years, and that he worked there for 7 years, and is known in Chester, Nantwich, & c. Information to bo given to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Shropshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Ma; reh 13. Charged with the larceny ( by means of a trick) of £ 48 10s., belouging to Edward Evans, farmer, Caemawr, Tryddyn, near Mold, at Wrexham Fair, on 7th instant : two men, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair and moustache, rest of the face clean shaved, aud has a nerve ii* twitching in the eyes ; dressed iu a silk hat, necktie with horse- shoe and whip breast pin, and dark brown overcoat, rather short. The other about 60 years of uge, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender, grey hair, beard, and whiskers, cut short, does not sliave, and rut- her shabby genteel appearance ; dressed iu black cloth trousers, topcoat fitting tight round the body, long skirts, and silk hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Police Office, Wrexham, Denbighshire. — Bow street, March 13. Absconded on 10th instant, from Sedgley, charged ( on warrant) with larcenv : JEREMIAH FIELDING, 14 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion ; dressed in dark grey cloth jacket, three outside pockets, two on hips, and one on left breast, dark grey vest, dark plaid trousers, black billycock hat, and blucher boots. And JOSEPH PHIPPS, 14 yoars of age, 4 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, and blind of left eye ; dressed in light grey coat, vest, and trousers, biaek billycock hat, and lace- up boots. They will be travelling together, and may probably visit Liverpool, London, Southampton, or Bristol, as they intend to emigrate to Australia. Absconded on 9th instant, from 21, Bedfordbury, stealing a gold engine- turned English lever Watyh ; a gold Pin, set with amethyst; 2 black Coats, lined with Italian cloth : a pair of black Trousers, broad seam at sides, lined with white calico ; a black silk Scarf : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in grey coat, black trousers and vest, black hard felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 13. Description of PATRICK DAGNAN, charged on a warrant with stealing £( i 10s in Oold, 10s. in Silver, and a blue pilot cloth monkey Jacket: he is about 30 years of a^ e, 5 feet 8 inches high, full face, no whiskers, slight moustache, dark brown hair, cut short, rather crooked nose, walks erect, having been in the army ; dressed in a newish pilot cloth jacket, double- breasted, moleskin trousers, soft billycock hat, - and strong lace- np boots, nearly new. Has relatives at or near Wigan, and the Old Swan, near Liverpool. Absconded, cha. tged on a warrant with embezzling £ 140- Paymaster Sergeant SAMSON WILLS, late of 21st Hussars' 27 years of age ( looks younger), 5 feet inches high, fresn complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar right breast and lev trade a clerk, was born at Arrow, Clare, Ireland ; dressed in Oxford tweed suit. Absconded on 4th instant, from Whittington, near Lichfield, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 3 in gold from his lodgings : WILLIAM BRAMWELL, about 28 years of a"- e, 5 feet 4 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, hazel ej'es, slight build, has lost his right leg, and wears a wooden one, and generally carries his hand on the top of it, he walks very lame ; dressed in drab slop, cord trousers and vest, and billycock hat. lie was convicted at Uttoxeter for stealing a Scythe, arid also at Stafford for horse stealing ia 1876. Information to be given to Sergeant Hammond, Shenstone, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow^ streit, March 11. Absconded from Sheffield, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : GEORGE TILLERY, a clerk, 38 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, slight dark whiskers, heavy moustache, rather round shouldered, stoops when walking, and walks with a quick step; was dressed in dark clothing and felt hat. He absconded on 4th instant, and it is believed he will endeavour to leave the country. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Sheffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 11. Absconded on ,16th ultimo, from Brewery- road, York- road, Islington, embezzling £ 40 : a woman, governess, about 47 years of age, short, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair ; dressed respectable ; lately resided at 26, Addington- road, Bow. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded on 5th instant, from 11, East- street, Lambs Conduit- street, stealing : a black cloth dress Coat ; a black cloth frock ditto ; a dark blue morning ditto ; two black cloth Yests ; a dark blue ditto ; a portrait Album, brass back, containing portraits ; and a red morocco leather Cigar- case : a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, high forehead, wears double eye- glasses occasionally ; dressed in dark rough over- coat, dark trousers and vest, high black hat, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded on 5th instant, stealing ,£ 120, viz. : a ,£ 50 Bank of England Note, No. 06600, a £ 20, No. 05667, the remainder Gold : a man ( clerk), 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, fair, pale complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in grey suit, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Description of JOHN LEAKE, charge*, with stealing on 4th instant, from the Royal Oak Hotel yard, Eccleshall: a brass wheel Cap, and a Linchpin ; the property of Thomas Roe. He is 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, freckled face, light brown curly hair, and no beard or moustache ; was dressed in a grey suit of clothes, black soft samy hatf, lace- up boots ; is a wheelwright, and a rative of Garmelbn, near Eccleshall. Was last seen going in the direction of Newport. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Crisp, Stone, or to Sergeant Hall, Eccleshall, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 8. FEAUBS AID AGGRAVATED MISBEMEAIOURS. Description of an Irishman, charged with obtaining by false pretences on 9th instant : a hackney Saddle and a Bridle, the property of Mr. Dorsett, Aldridge- road, Perry Barr : he is 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, medium build, light hair, little light whiskers, small sandy moustache, labourer, walks quickly, and has a military appearance ; was dressed in grey- coloured slop, cotton cord trousers, black cloth cap, with poke, which he wears on one side ; a new flap has been added recently to the saddle, and one of the stirrup straps mended, there is a straight bit to the " bridle, which is single reined. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Whitehurst, Police Station, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- s. reit, March 15. Charged on a warrant with obtaining ,£ 1 16s. by false pretences at Lincoln on 1st instant : a man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, pale complexion, brown liair, parted in centre, moustache, little or no whiskers ; dressed in hard round hat, rather long brown coat, and black trousers. Calls upon small grocers, and represents himself as travelling agent to a Birmingham firm, sole proprietors of a powder for destroying insects. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Mansell, Lincoln City. — Bow- street, March 13. Absconded, charged under a warrant with withholding .£ 40, the property of the Boiler Makers' and Iron Shipbuilders' Society : JOHN NEARY, about 41 years of age, 5 ft. 3 or 4 inches" high, blue eyes, brown hair ( turning grey), dark ginger whiskers on low part of face tand chin ( turning grey), very fresh complexion, long thin nose, stout build, a native of Kilkennj"-, in Ireland, and is well known in the North of England; dressed in blue reefer jaeket, dark grey tweed trousers and vest, hard black felt hat, and had with him a superfine suit of black. Fond of horse- racing, betting, card playing, & c. Late Secretary to the Sunderland No. 3 Branch of the Boiler Makers' and Iron Shipbuilders' Society. £ 10 reward will be given to any person who will give such infor- mation as will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Detective Department, East Cross Street, Sunderland. — Bow- street, March 11. MSSCELLAHEOXJS INFORMATIONS. Missing, since 6th instant, from his home, The Close, Cathedral Yard, Exeter : WILLIAM HENRY BARRETT, 8 years of age, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, has a scar over left eye, and a bald spot on top of head ; dressed in a black velvet knickerbocker suit, dark knitted stockings, round braided black cloth cap, blue striped shirt, and lace- up boots. It is feared that some ill has befallen him. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bent, Guildhall, Exeter. £ 5 reward if returned to his parents alive, and £ 1 reward for the recovery of the body if dead.— Bow- street, March 15. Description of ALFRED PALMER, committed for trial at Stafford Assizes on 2Cth instant, for stealing £ 6 10s. 2Jd. from his lodgings at Chasetown, on 3rd May, 1875, adveitised in the Pulice Gazette of 10th May, 1875. He is wanted a' Fishpon Is, near Bristol, for stealing a Watch in April, 1875, and sa s th- it 7 yeais ago lie was sentenced to 7 days and whipped in Walsall Eorough Gaol for stealing a Purse, and that he has since le n at Leicester, Bristol, Llanid.' oe , Birmingham Walsall, : he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, s gh" build, & tuops, slovenly gait, thin face, no whiskers, ligi t brown hair, and stammers when talking; shabbily drejed. Description of ISAAC NIXON ROBSON, in custody on a charge of larceny from the person, and remanded until 18th instant He is a labourer, 39 years of age, 5 feet 4^ ins. high ( without shoes), rather dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair turning grey, wears a moustache, slender figure, bum marks on right arm, two teeth out in front of upper jaw, and nose slightly turned to one side ; dressed in a brown mixture tweed suit, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. He states he was born at New Durham, and that his wife and three children reside at present at Coundon, in the county of Durham, and has worked at several places in that county, likewise at Pelton Fell and Willington. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or to the County Chief Constable, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, March 13. Absconded from the Devon Girls' Reformatory School, on 23rd ultimo : EVILYNA RAY, 14 years of age, over 5 feet high, dark brown hair, and brown eyes. Carried an ulster overcoat, also a parcel containing clothes. He was last seen on the above date in the Waterloo- road, London, and has not since been heard of. Description of WILLIAM KING, a tramping shoemaker, sentenced to 1 calendar jmonth hard labour, at Reading Gaol, for larceny : he is a native of Cliff, near Lewes, Sussex, 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, blue eyes, dark hair, and inclined to curl, fresh complexion; was discharged from the Royal Artillery in 1875 ; in his possession were found a pair of child's new leather Boots, No. S^ size, with brass eyelet holes, and brass rivetted, stamped ' 46' on the waist; and a pair of woman's new leather Uppers, without fronts, cut to lace- up inside, and lined with drab jean, supposed stolen from some shop where he has called for work. The following pawn- tickets were found upon him relating to property also supposed stolen : a shirt, at Smith's, Church street, Croydon, 29th March, 1877, in the name of John Ross ; five Tools, with Cotton & Son, 75, Fenchurch- street, and 1 and 2, Church- lane, Southampton, 27th June, 1877, in the name of George Smith ; and four other tools on the following day at the same place, in the name cf John Rose ; a rowel Iron, pledged with Drage, Northampton, 21st July, 1877, in the name of J. Rose ; and four tools, with Brailsford, Sussex- street, Not- tingham, 3rd September, 1877, in the name of John Ross. Railway and about 200 yards from the east end on the down line, at 8.15 a. m. ou 6th instant, the dead body of a newly- born Female Child wrapped in a coarse apron, bound round the top with a piece of white coarse calico, one bone button on the side about half way down, and a button- hole on the opposite side for the purpose of fastening it behind, with the letters ' s. t.' marked thereon ( but scarcely visible), and such as is now worn loy servants, factory hands or women working in the fields. An inquest was held on the body the same day, and from the medical evidence given the jury returned a verdict of ' Found Dead.'
