CONTAINING lie substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known hut not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, shouldjbe forwarded on War Office Forms 83 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS FORGERY1. Charged on a sheriffs warrant for having on several occasions between 1st March and 9th May, 1877, fraudulently obtained on presentation of forged bills, in a Bank in Glasgow, several sums of money, amounting to ,£ 383 9s. Gd, : WM. DOIG, a working jeweller, of No. 8, Buchanan- street, Glasgow, £ 8 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, dark complexion, heavy eyebrows, downcast look, old scar on nose, no whiskers, slight black beard, and very slight moustache ; dressed generally in an olive coloured top coat, rough brown tweed suit, black scarf, and, a black felt hat. When walking generally keeps one- hand in trousers pocket, and seldom looks ;.-. ny person in the face. Absconded on 27th ultimo. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow.— Bow- street, March. 6. Description of E. C. MORGAN, late editor of the New Swindon Express Newspaper, for whose apprehension a warrant'is issued for forging a Cheque on the Wilts and Gloucester Bank, for £ 22 : he is from 30 to 35 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout, very dark eyes, hair, whiskers and beard ; usually wears spectacles, and generally dressed respectable, and wears a high black silk hat, and a very large nister coat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary.— Bow- street, March 4. Pony, aged, 13J hands high, chipped knees, in good condition; a set of brass- mounted Harness, with two odd terrels, traces, bridle, old pads, lined white check. Also stolen from the farm at Cheam- lane, same night : a dark green Dogcart, with two lamps, top of one broken off, cushions covered dark blue cloth, a cocoa- nut Mat, a Sack, ' Charles Dixon, Cheam- on side, all much worn.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, Mar. G. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Walsall: a bay horse Colt, 3 years old, 14 hands high, and in good condition. Stolen from a field at Shelvock, parish of Ruyton Eleven Towns, on the night of 1st instant : 3 Shropshire downs yearling Sheep, marked with pitch on the side ' B. O.' Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen between 10 p. m. on 1st, and 8 a. m. on 2nd instant, from stables at Sudbury Lodge Farm, Sudbury- road, Harrow: a cliesnut Mare, aged, 14 hands 3 inches high, star on fore- head, and hind heel white, small lump on off fore fetlock, in good condition ; a set of brass mounted Harness, collar and bridle deficient; and two brown horse Rugs, old, ' [ Trite, maker, Paddington' thereon.— Metropolitan 1' olioe, X Divi- sion, March 6. Stolen from a field at Bowbridge, in the parish of Stroud, sometime between 23rd and 24th instant: a dark bay Mare, about 14 hands high, rising 5 years, long rough, coat, having laid out all the winter, heavy mane and long tail, in good condition, shod all round, and no white spot or mark about her ; the property of Mr. James 11. Ockford, of Little Mill, Stroud. The Mare was found in a field at Eyeford, near Stow on- the- WoId, about 24 miles from Stroud, on the morning of 28th ultimo. When found she had been clipped, docked and seared, lier mane thinned and newly shod. The fore shoes are quite flat without any grooves for the nails, the hind shoes are tinned up a little on the outside. The Mare is supposed to have been ( locked and seared where she was shod. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who stole the Mare. Stolen from a field in Halifax, Yorks, since 21st ultimo : a black draught Mare; about 15 hands 2 inches high, aged, in fair condition, white star in forehead, white near hind foot, long hair on body, switch tail, lias had a sore on top of near foreleg, and is without shoes. Information to be given to Chief Constable Pole, Town Hall Halifax, Yorkshire.— Dow- street, March 4. JOBBERY AND LARC NY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on 19th instant, from the person whilst in a crowd in Euston- road : a large open- face gold chronometer Watch, No. 55104.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 27. BURGLARY" AND HOUSE BREAKING. Daring the night of 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Smith, John stone- street, Handsworth, was Woken into and stolen therein: a man's pepper- and- salt f ' uat, double- breasted, two outside pockets and ticket pocket, about half worn ; and a pair of man's Braces. By a man of the following description : about 23 or 24 years of age, i> feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion and hair, medium build, full, face, high cheek bones, no whiskers and was heard to Kpeak with Irish accent; dressed in brown- coloured plaid cloth trousers, low shoes, and white stockings. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. A man of the following description hired a brown Mare, i. ri hands high, about 10 years old, near hind fetlock white, both knees slightly marked, tail cut square ; a brown White- .- ha'iel Drag, picked out with vermilion, blue cushions and tuffe ' Thomas Barnes, Builder, Chester,' on caps; and a Silver plated Harness, at Chester, on 25tli ultimo, and has not finee been heard of : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or • k inches hifh, dark beard and moustache; dressed in dark Huo overcoat, and silk liat. A reward of £ 2 will be paid by h 3 owner to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the property and conviction of i' s offender. Description of a man, charged with stealing 5 Sheep, at Northleach, on 25th ultimo ( sheep since recovered sold in Oxford Market) : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high ; Pressed in a long dark overcoat, dark trousers, hard felt hat, rid old boots, the left split at heel. He gave the name of CHARLES WOODCOCK. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Office, Northleach, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen during the niglit of 27th ultimo, from a stable at the ' Drill' inn,. Cheam- lane, North Cheam : a grey mare LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on 16th ultimo, from Brewery- road, York- road, Islington, embezzling £ 40 : a woman, governess, about 47 years of age, short, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair; dressed respectable; lately resided at 26', Addington- road, Bow. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded on 5th instant, from 11, East- street, Lambs Conduit street, stealing : a black cloth dress Coat ; a black cloth frock ditto ; a dark blue morning ditto ; two black cloth Vests ; a dark blue ditto ; a portrait Album, brass back, containing portraits ; and a red morocco leather Cigar- case : a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, high forehead, wears double eye- glasses occasionally ; dressed in" dark rough over- coat, dark trousers and vest, high black hat, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded on 5th instant, stealing £ 120, viz. : a £ 50 Bank of England Note, No. 06600; a £ 20, No. 05GG7, the remainder Gold : a man ( clerk), 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, fair, pale complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in grey suit, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, Marchii. Description of JOHN LEAKE, charged with stealing on 4th instant, from the Royal Oak Hotel yard, Eccleshalll a brass wheel Cap, and a Linchpin ; the property of Thomas Roe. He is 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, freckled face, light brown curly hair, and no beard or moustache ; was dressed in a grey suit of clothes, black soft samy hat, lace- up boots ; is a wheelwright, and a rative of Garmelon, near apprehension.— Bow- street, March 8. Absconded on 2nd instant, from 12, Alfred- place, St. Ciles, stealing one Sovereign : a woman ( servant), 30 years of age, 5 feet high, ruddy complexion, dark hair ; dre'ssed in brown linsey dress, black and white cheek shawl, and black bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March G. Absconded on 26th ultimo, from Birmingham, charged on a warrant with embezzling the sum of £ 300, the monies of J. R. Atkins and Co., factors, Augusta- street : JAMES ROWLAND ATKINS, one of the Firm, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black curly hair, dark moustache and whiskers, and of gentlemanly. appearance. He is well known ' 1' ' " in Description of GEORGE THOMAS, alias THOMP- SON, alias ROBINSON, an engraver on glass, who absconded from Worcester on 20th ultimo, and for whose arrest a warrant has been issued, charged with stealing a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 20490, with gold face, black figures, one of which is partly obliterated ; an old- fashioned long gold Chain ; a gentleman's gold Ring, with pink stone ; a ladies silver Ring, with six green stones ; a small gold Seal; and a small gold Brooch, set with cornelian, which is slightly damaged : lie is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4Jt inches high fair complexion, light hair inclined to curl, and small eyes ; dressed in pepper and' salt plaid trousers, and dark coat. Is a. native of Stourbridge. Information to be given to Sergeant Sommers, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, March. G. Description of PETER DENNIS, charged on a warrant, with stealing five Sovereigns, in Cambridge, on 2nd instant : 23 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, dark hair, eyes, and whiskers ; dressed in old dark cap, with peak and knot on top, old light spotted muffler, dark brown mixture cloth coat and vest, cord trousers, lace- up shoes, and an old unbleaclied- calico shirt, stained with blood- He is a drover, and has worked at Norwich, Ipswich, Bury and oilier places in the Eastern Counties. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Turrall, Cambridge, who holds the, warrant for his apprehension..— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen on 1st instant, from 10, Angel- court, Strand : a pair side- spring boots ; a pair lace ditto : two pairs dark tweed Trousers ; a black cloth Overcoat, black velvet collar, pockets on hips ; two black cloth walking Coats ; an otter skin Vest; two black cloth Yests, one single, one double- 3 breasted. By two men, one 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, aiid thin face ; dressed in a light tweed coat, black trousers, and black i'elt hat. The other 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, thin face,, fair complexion, and dark hair ; dressed in dark clothes, and black soft felt hat. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 6. Absconded, charged with embezzlement GEORGE P. WARREN, lata a clerk in the emplov of Messrs. Horsell and Willis brewers, Wootton Bassett: he ia.. aW. f{ tv24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather pale, fair complexion, light hair, very little hair on his face, no- beard or whiskers, nose rather large with very open and large nostrils, broad shoulderF, walks upright; and has plenty of confidence ; dressed in a high . - black silk hat or bowler-, good black ribbcjl cloth overcoat, with velvet collar, light trousers, and sometimes drab cloth gaiters with fronts over the shoes ; carries a gold watch, and. wears rings on his fingers, and generally carries' an umbrella when away from home; of respectable appearance. Knows London well, and took a ticket to Paddington on 25th ultimo, but it is believed he will endeavour to leave the country. £ 10 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Absconded, charged with larceny ai bailee of a Watch, at Stow- on- the- Wold, on !) lh ultimo : a travelling watch jobber, 60 years of age, 5 f « et 7 inches high, long hair, whiskers and beard all quite grey, all the fingers of right hand straight, and walks lame ; dressed in a long black coat, grey- trousers,, red stripes down the sides, high hat. He frequents common lodging- houses, and low beer- shops. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Otlice, Northleach,. Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Dow- street, March 4. Absconded from Ebbwvale, on 25tli ultimo, charged with embezzlement: DANIEL LLOYD, late a clerk in the Ebbwvale Steel, Iron, and Coal Company ( Limited) : he is a Welshman, of gentlemanly appearance, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, proportionate made, fair com- plexion, brown hair, and long brown whiskers and moustache; dressed when he absconded in a suit of black cloth, and hard bowler hat. He will most likely m.-. ke his way to some part in the North of England. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Cilice, Abergavenny, or to Mr. Super- intendent Foll, Tredegar Iron " Works, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension;— Emu- street, March 1. Stolen during the night of 24th ultimo, from a waggon while standing at the Biggleswade Railway Station : 30 yards of cotton Cord, 20 yard:-; of brown Velveteen, 20i yards of white toilet Covering, 59 . yards of black Victoria lawn, 50 yards of Mecklin, 24 yards of pale hard book Muslin, am i a pair of ladies stays ( stays have been recovered). Thev were traced from Biggleswade to Sout'uill, on the morn in"'- - • after the robbery, where they took tickets by the 10T5 a. nn train for St. Pancras. Stolen between 16th and LSth ultimo, from the premises of Mr. Edmund Roberts, builder, Weedon : 2 Pit Saws one 7 feet long, the other 6 feet 9 inches long, both 11 inches'wide at heel ; 1 cross- cut Saw, 4 feet long, ail the Saws have handles attached ; 1 2- foot Rule, has . been cracked at on- end •>, » 1 mended with glue. He sold the two pit Saws and 2- foot Rule at Silverstone, Northampton, and which have since been recovered. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williamson, County Police Office, Weedon, Northampton- shire, who holds a warrpnt for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. Description of JOHN MERRICK, charged with stealing two Ducks, at Tividale, on 24 th ultimo : 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, stout build ; when last seen was dressed in black clothes, hard billycock hat, and lace- up boots; native of Brades- row, Tividale, and a labourer. A warrant is granted for his apprehension. Information to be given to Sergeant Cooper, Blackheath, near Dudley, or to Police Constable Given, Tividale, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 1. Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias TICKET SMITH, who absconded from South Stockton on 18th ultimo, charged with fraudulently embezzling two sums of money belonging to the lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which Lodge he was Secretary : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, complexion inclined to be fresh, has very broad front teeth, proportionate figure, walks very erect with his head thrown back, and generally has his hands in his trousers pockets ; dressed in grey or brown mixture suit, and black billycock hat. Was for a number of years employed as mineral agent on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, but for the last 4 or 5 years has been attending the p incipal race meetings, and also acting as bailiff for the < ounty Court. Is much given to boasting, and will be likely to spend much of his time at public houses frequented by the lower class of betting men, or may try to get employment as a waiter or barman at a public house. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simpson, Conslabulary Office, South Stockton, North Riding of Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. FELONIES. Absconded, charged on a warrant with felony : JOHN HERBERT SARGENT, late of 9, Windermere- road, Upper Hollo way; 26, Milton- street, Brixton; and _ Park road, Clapliam; about 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sandy hair, curls round his head, sandy beard, whiskers and moustache, thin face, and slender build; late a clerk in Christ's Hospital; has a wife and two children, frequents billiard- rooms, and maj' have taken a marker's situation. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliams, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London.— Bow- street, March 6. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. CHARLES TAYLOR, alias ROBERT JOHNSON, advertised in Police Gazette of 19th ultimo, as charged at Abingdon with fraud, has been apprehended at Kineton, Warwickshire, and will be brought before the Borough Bench on 5th instant. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Brabner, Police Office, Abingdon, Berks.—. J3o « c- street, March 4. Obtained by false pretences, on 9th ultimo, from Mr. Thomas Milner, watchmaker, Wigan, the following Watches : a silver Lever centre- seconds, chronometer balance, outside stop work, maker Thomas Milner, Wigan, No. 2082 ; also a silver lever centre- seconds Hunting, chronometer balance, outside stop work, maker Thomas Milner, Wigan, No. 2028, found pawned in Manchester. By WILLIAM HAWLEY, alias GEORGE HENRY SMITH, alias E. A. ONSLOW, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 ins. high, fair complexion, hair, and moustache; dressed in dark tweed coat, dark trousers, billycock hat. He formerly worked at Moss Hall Colliery, near Wigan, as fireman, and afterwards at Hewlett Pitt, near Westhoughton, as an air guager. He has also worked at Castleford and Wakefield, in Yorkshire, as a colliery fireman, and at Droylesden, near Manchester. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Wigan, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. Charged on a warrant with fraud : ANDREW GANSTER, alias HAAS, late of 22, South- street, Manchester- square, 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark moustache, no whiskers or beard ; generally dressed in long blue ulster coat, and high hat ; a Frenchman. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- street, March 1. Absconded since 23rd December last, obtaining £ 10 by false pretences : CHARLES NETTLEFOLD, 45 years of age,- 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, cut short, stout build ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, round hard felt hat, late master of Newington Workhouse. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 1. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of WILLIAM TAYLOR, alias CHARLES RONT, a miller, remanded until the Petty Sessions, at Market Rasen, on 18th instant, charged with stealing a top Coat, which has been recovered, the property of William Farrow, of West Rasen, servant : he is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 in. high, rather fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, very small light moustache, blue eyes, stiff built, several brown spots or moles on back, and large wort on the back of right hand ; dressed in a dark mixture or plaid jacket, brown vest, cord trousers, elastic- sided boots, Scotch plaid scarf, and grey cloth cap. States he is a native of Diss, Norfolk, and that he has worked at Bradford. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Henson, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Description of DAVID HERBERT, in custody and awaiting his trial, at the next Quarter Sessions, Salop, for housebreaking at Wellington : he is 21 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, oval visage, blue eyes, brown hair, proportionate built, slight light whiskers and moustache, rose and shamrock on body, thistle mark on right forearm. Slates he is a blacksmith by trade, and a iiative of Ludlow, Salop. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, or to Mr. Superintendent Howel s, County Constabulary Office, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, March 8. Description of ANTHONY BOYLAN, remanded at Portsmouth until Hth ii. stant, charged with larcsny ; he is 29 years of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, brown haw, harel eyes, fresh comp exion, whiskers, no Moustache, ohm clean shaven, well built, of smart appearance. He states be is a • native of Dublin, that he has served in the 76th Regiment, and purchased his discharge, and he is believed to have been a butler. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jervis, Portsmouth, Hants.— Bow- street, March 8. Description of two women committed to Montgomery Gaol, on 2nd instant, for 14 days under the Vagrant Act : one gave the name of MARGARET WILLIAMS, of Hull, 39 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, cut mark under right eye, cut over left eye, several cuts on fore- head and on cheeks, and small lump on top of head ; dressed in black bonnet, trimmed with light flowers, old Paisley shawl, and old black dress. The other gives the name of MARY ELIZABETH WEBB, of Leeds, Yorkshire, 24 yrs. of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, grey eyes, and marked with smallpox; dressed in black bonnet with flower in front, and grey shawl. Thejr attend fairs for unlawful purposes. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Breeze, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, March 8. The bedroom was reached from the outside by means of a ladder, and an entrance effected by unfastening the window. He had in his possession a gold Geneva lever Watch, jewelled in ten holes, makers name Staufer, No. 35099 ; and a gold signet Ring, 18- carat, with bloodstone, supposed stolen. Escaped from the Huntingdon Countv Gaol: DAVID RAY, alias JOHN SMITH, 24 years of age ( appears older), 5 feet 6J inches high, oval visage, proportionate nose, hazel eyes, light brown hair and whiskers, fresh complexion, weight 147 lbs., a bricklayer, residing at St, Neot's, Hunts, a large tree, man and woman standing underneath, also man and woman on side of arm near the elbow, Indian warrior near right shoulder, two women and a sailor, an Indian warrior on left forearm, and ring on second and third fingers left hand ; dressed in pepper- and- salt jacket, trousers, black and white mixture, and hard billycock hat; has served 4 years in the 90th Regiment and deserted in 1872 ; illegally enlisted in the 43rd Regiment, and sentenced by Court Martial to 84 days ; also deserting in 1873 and sentenced to 336 days; fraudulently enlisting in the 10th Regiment in 1876 and sen- tenced to 336 days. He is likely to visit the recruiting ser- geants to again enlist; has served the above terms of impri- sonment in Lewes and Milbank Prisons ; he is a smart- looking active man, speaks very quick, and sometimes a difficulty to avoid stammering.
