Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police - Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor suust be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 8ili ultimo, the dead Body of a newly born male Child was found in a hedge bank in Bromfield- lane, Mold, in tie county of Mint, wrapped in a piece of blue and red plaid rfable Cloth. A Coroner's Jury having returned a verdict of * Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' Her Majesty's Government do hereby offer a reward of £ 50 to any person ( other than a Police Officer) who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majasty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given at any of the Police Stations in the county of Flint, or to Chief Constable Browne, Rhyl, Flintshire.— Bow- street, February 15. | Absconded from Middlesbrough, on 26th ultimo, charged with assaulting and inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Ann Hall: CHARLES JONES, alias HENRY GAFENEY, alias LAIRY, alias HALL, a pudler, a native of Great Barr, or Great Bridge, Staffordshire, 33 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, brown whiskers and moustache, slightly pock- pitted ; dressed when last seen in an old dirty cloth coat, moleskin trousers, and old cloth cap. He is of Irish parentage And has worked at iron works in Stockton, Hartlepool, Dar- lington, and Sandbach, in Cheshire, and Hunslet, near Leeds. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- Borough Police Station, street, February 15. Description of EDG. RIVETT, charged with maliciously and feloniously wounding Albert Blomfield, at Mendham, on 6th instant: lie is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches hio- h, light hair, no whiskers, pale complexion, snaps his eyes when talking to any one; dressed in dark monkey jacket, cord trousers, and ' black imitation skin vest, and chummy hat. Information to be given to Sergeant Tuddenham, Harleston, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, February 8. feet, having at the bottom of one foot' W. C.', on the second ' E. P.', and on the third £ 1870.' Supposed by two men who left Royston bv the 10- 25 Great Northern express train, the morning after the burglary : one about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 or 45 years of age ; was dressed in dark clothes, and tall hat; the other was shorter, about 30 years of age, had a sandy moustache, and wore a chummy hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Chesterton- road, Cambridge.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on 10th instant, from the cottage of Wm. Scutt, at West Hoathly : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, with flowered back, silk Guard and plain gold Seal attached ; a gold Pencil- case ; a dark red scent Bottle, with silver top ; £ 11 in Gold ; about £ 1 in Silver and Bronze Coins; also 2s. 6d. worth of Postage Stamps. Supposed by two men who were seen loitering in the neighbourhood ( one is in custody); the other is about 25 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, small light moustache, light hair, proportionate figure, round face, and speaks very fluently ; dressed in dark coat, worn at left elbow and collar, pepper- and- salt trousers, worn at bottoms, brown hard felt hat, and small light boots, no nails, ( supposed blucher make). Stolen between 7.30 and 10.15 p. m. on lltli instant, from 29, Ratcliffe Square, South Kensington : a jewel Case, con- taining a lady's gold Watch, white dial, engraved on outer case'M. A. G.'; a lady's gold Chain, garnet Cross, and gold Key attached ; 6 gold Rings, one mourning ( set with four large pearls), one turquoise and diamond, one diamond and three rubies, and three diamond hoop ; 5 Bracelets, one gold ( set with pearls and diamonds), one do. ( broad band with brooch ornaments attached), one hair ( gold heart attached), two jet do. ; 3 pairs of Ear- rings, one gold ( set with diamonds), one do. ( set witli pearls), one do. ( set with. amethyst) ; a pair of gold Wires ; a gold Chain, suspended brooch Star ; a large gold Locket, set with diamonds, a gentleman's and child's photograph inside, large flexible Chain attached ; a filigree Ornament, set with diamonds ; a pair of gold Links, engraved ' G.'; a large size do. ; a child's gold Ring, twisted, set with garnets ; a pair of lady's gold Eye- glasses, open with spring, in chased case; burglary.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, February 13. Stolen between 11' 30 p. m., 4th, and 7' 30 a. m., 5th instant, from 31, Church- street, Kensington : 27 Watches, ten lady's gold Geneva, ( one white dial, No. 41574, figure 2 underneath), seventeen silver ( two Geneva, one No. 4512, one No. 23946, one No. 8098, one No. 76437, one old fashioned verge, three secondhand, one lever hunter, front case deficient, several marked ' T. Leete, Church- street, Kensington,' on dome, register mark on each movement); 2 silver watch Cases, one engine turned, much worn ; 4 gold Chains, two belcher pattern ( one albert, round links), one secret links, one silver albert ( curb pattern) ; 24 gem Rings, one large signet ( 15- carat), nine gold keepers, others various ; a black frock Coat, silk facings, much worn ; a blue witney overcoat. Burglary. — Metropoli- tan Police, T Division, February 11. IOE6ERY. Absconded on 8th instant, charged with forgery : BENJAMIN WRIGHTON, of Syresham, Northampton- shire pork butcher, 22 years of age. 6 feet high, fair fresh complexion, light brown hair, and small light whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, and is of respectable appearance. He has lived in Banbury and Birmingham. Information to be rdven to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, Bucks, who holds 1 warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. — Stolen by means of burglary on 12th instant, at Grant- Chester, Cambridge : The property of R. L. Bensly, Esq. : a large silve^ Soup Ladle marked ' V. B.'; four silver table Spoons, marked ' B.; eight'or nine silver tea Spoons, marked < D. V R.'; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, marked < B. 12'; a silver butter Knife ; some plated Forks ; a child's Mug, about size of small tumbler, silver, and marked ' W. J P.', gilt mside and chased . outside; a child's Mug, plated and marked R. B. B. ; the Contents of a Cabinet, which contained a, bout 500 gold and silver Coins and Medals ; a dark brown silk and a violet silk Umbrella both having white handles ; a black Overcoat, with lurht grey' lining, having some papers and a cheque Book of the London and County Bank in the pocket; two black frock Coats, ribbed cloth, pockets in lappets, and small pocket, inside left breast. The property of F. W. Lilley, Esq. : a silver tea- caddy Spoon, marked 1 F. L. L.', and a cheque Book cf Messrs. Fosters Bank, Cambridge. The property of Miss Cowland : a silver salt Cellar on three HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a stable, between 7- 30 and 9' 30 p. m., on 12th instant, the property of Mr. Charles Blundell, at the parish of Shoreham : a light chesnut Gelding, 13 or 14 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, rubbed round oil' shoulder, and some lumps under neck, carries his head rather high, a fast trotter, in good condition, value £ 30 ; also a set of light silver plated Harness, rather worn ; 2 or 3 Collars, various sizes ; and another light set of Van Harness, brass mounted; 3 Reins ; 2 Cloths, one old, the other nearly new, marked ' C. Blundell, Shoreham.' By two men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark moustache, and short whiskers ; dressed in light check overcoat. The other 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in blue overcoat, fastened in front with a large pin ; both wore hard felt hats. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Okill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- streel, February 15. hands high, long tail, and in good condition; a light Gig, painted blue, and picked out with red; and a set of silver- plated Harness, Riding Saddle and Bridle. £ 10 reward will be given for such information as will lead to the apprehension and convietion of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent" Dobson, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, February i' 5. Stolen on 8th instant, between 1 and 2 p. m., from a field near Handsworth Old Church, the property of Mr. Samuel Mayes, 125, Hockley- hill, Birmingham : a bay horse Pony, about 13 hands high, white saddle marks, two. marks, inside near foreleg below knee joint, rough coat, mane cut short, aged. Two men of the following description were seen about 2 p. m. same day in charge of the Pony, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed shabbily, wore a greasy drab hard felt hat. The other about the same age ; dressed shabbily, and wore a dark cap, like a collier. Information to- be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwicli, or to Inspeetor Whitehurst, Police Station, near Birmingham. Bow- street, February 13. Absconded from Pontydryn, near Pontypool,. on 1st inst.,. charged on a warrant with sheep stealing L WM. EVANS, a native of Panteg, near Pontypool, 30 years of age, about 5 ft. inches high, slight build, dark complexion, dark brown, hair, cut short, small dark moustache, is an. ironwork's man,, puddler, leverman, tongsman, or hammerman ; dressed in a suit of dark grey, with light stripe, hard, black bowler hat,' and elastio- sid'e boots. Smart appearance, a little bow- legged, and has been a musician in the band of a volunteer Corps. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 13. Stolen from a colliery at Bentley, in the township of Willenhall, on or about the 24th ult. : a light grey entire Pony, about 11£ hands high, short tail, long coat, wound ou rump, and in poor condition. Information to be given to Inspector Gasson, Constabulary Office, Willenhall, Stafford' shire.— Bow- street, February 13. Found near Atherstone on 30th ultimo, suppesed stolen : a bay gelding Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, white star on forehead, rough coat, in good condition,, teeth in lower jaw very long and projecting. Information to be- given to Mr. Superintendent Walker, Police Station, Atherstone, War- wickshire.— Bow- street, February 13. Left at Dunchurch, supposed stoltn, on 26th ul<„, by two horse copers : an aged dark brown nag Mare, sbont 15 hands 2 inches high, long tail, white star on forehead, white mark on nose, near fore foot and off hind leg white, several white marks on back, badly pinched on shoulder,, hind legs appear to have been blistered, low condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Palmer, Police Office, Rugby, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, February 13. Description of JOHN SIMPSON, supposed fictitious., remanded at Balsall Heath,, charged with stealing on 5th instant, a dark brown thorough bred Horse, 15 hands 3 inches high, spavin on near hock, long coat, both hocks fired : he is 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, stout built, brown hair, very heavy sandy moustache, HO whiskers ; dressed in hard felt hat, and dark suit of clothes ,- is supposed to be a native of London ;. he was accompanied by a man who escaped, of the following description : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, rather fair completion, light brown hair, small moustache,' and tuft on chin of light colour; dressed in blue plaid coat, dark cord trousers, and light overcoat ; has the appearance of a low horse dealer. At the time of Simpson's arrest the tw ® men were driving the stolen horse in a light spring trap, painted dark colour, picked out with white, of shabby appearance ; the dashboards were> much worn, one of the shafts had been broken and repaired with iron plate. £ 5 re- w& rd will be given for information leading to the arrest of the second man above described, and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Dowdeswell, King's Heath, near Birmingham.—• Bow- street, February 11. Stolen from a stable in Hanley, between 8' 30 p. m., 7th » and 5- 30 a. m., 8th instant: a light brown Horse, about 16 hands high, has a strong tail, star on face, a little white on Stolen from a field at Broom, on 10th instant : a black Pony, rising 3 years old, about hands high, white star on forehead, tail has been cut, the property of Mr. James Hughes, Broom, near Alcester. A reward of £ 5 will be given on the apprehension and conviction of the offender, and recovery of the Pony. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Station, Alcester, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, February 15. Description of a man charged on warrant with stealing a Horse ( recovered) on or about 7th instant : SAMUEL BRACEGIRDLE, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, no whiskers or moustache, and proportionate build ; dressed in velvet sac jacket, light trousers, blucher boots, hard felt hat, and may now be wearing a brown overcoat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wardle, Borough Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 15. S, toI< 3i from a stable at Shenfield Common, Brentwood, on the night of 13th instant, the property of Mr. Charles Osborn, dealer i a, bay hackney Mare; U years old, about 15 hind legs ; a brown Overcoat; a Bridle ; and a short Whip. By a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh, complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, no whiskers or moustache, proportionate build; dressed in a black velvet sac jacket, a pair of light trousers, blucher boots, and hard felt hat. He may now be wearing the stolen overcoat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Windle, Borough Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 11. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Further information respecting EDWARD LEWIS, advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing a silver lever Watch, with gold Chain and Seal, at North Risca, on 15th ultimo, and which has been found pledged : he has lost the second finger of left hand, and the top of the third finger smashed, has been in the Loudon. Police and m the Neath Police. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Foll, Tredegar, or to Sergeant Hale Blackwood, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, February 15, of CHARLES STEWART BURGESS, Description charged on warrant, with embezzling several" sums of Money the property of the Midland Banking Company, at Knighton', 8 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Febi mary 8 Radnorshire : he is about 21 or 22 years of age, 6 feet high, slight build, light coloured hair, little or no whiskers, slight moustache, broad forehead, small nose, and narrow chin ; usually dressed in a brown tweed suit, bowler hat, and long double- breasted Chesterfield. He left Knighton on the 6th instant. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Penybont, Radnorshire, or to Sergeant Rogers, Police Station, Knighton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen between 4 and 6 p. m., on 13th instant, from the shop of 120, High- street, Ryde : between 12 and 16 silver Geneva Watches, ladies and gentlemen's, some bear the name of ' W. Maud, 120, High- street, Ryde,' on the dome and dial; 3 silver English Levers ; 4 silver Geneva, one with bold figures, one broken cylinder, one engine turned, crystal glass, without hands, one crystal glass, pale movement, wide bazei; 4 or 5 ladies gold Genevas, two have the name ' W. Maud, 120, High- street, Ryde'; 6 ladies 9- carat gold Rings ; 6 or 8 gold Lockets ; 1 enamelled Do.; 1 gold Compass ; 1 gold Seal, white stone ; 1 gold Key - frith do.; 1 pair of gold Earr rings, all new. Supposed by a man, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark double- breasted pilot coat, and black felt hat. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. Maud, for the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Burt, Borough Police Office, Ryde, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen on 8th instant, from Grosvenor House, Eastbourne Sussex : an unbleached calico Chemise, woman's size, nearly new, and a large grey Feather, about 14 inches long. Supposed by a domestic servant who absconded during the night; she is about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, eyes and hair, and rather slight figure ; dressed in black cloth jacket, grey alpaca dress, black straw bat, trimmed with black velvet, and the stolen feather. Sup- posed to be accompanied by a man about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, very dark hair, medium figure, has been a soldier, but now works as a labourer ; dressed in black monkey jacket, fustian trousers, which have been mended on the right knee, black boulder crowned felt hat, and heavy half boots. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Newnham, East Sussex Consta- bulary, Eastbourne.— Bow- street, February 15. Description, of GEORGE HENRY SMITH, colliery deputy, late of Platt's Common, near Barnsley, charged on warrant - with stealing £ 12 from his lodging there : 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, light sandy hair ; dressed in blue pilot cloth suit, round felt hat, and elastic- side boots. He is a native of Wigan, Lancashire, and of good education. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Sykes, Barnsley, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, February 13. Stolen from Henry Green, at Brownhills, on 12th instant: a double- breasted black pilot Overcoat, two pockets right side and one on left, burn or stain mark on front bottom corner, slightly unsewn left shoulder, dark lining, and large black bone buttons. By a man, 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, medium build, stammers badly when talking ; dressed in dark jacket, mole- skin trousers, puce muffler, cloth cap turned up at sides, and strings tie in front, lace- up boots ; he is a miner. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 13. Stolen on 8th instant, from 6, Lambeth Road : a black cloth frock Coat' and Trousers, a blue pilot frock Overcoat, lined with dark stuff. By two men— 1st., 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, sandy- hair, no whiskers or moustache, and cross in blue ink on back of right hand ; dressed in dark plaid monkey jacket, dark vest and trousers, patch on knee, lace- up boots, and hard felt hat. The second is 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, and abscess on side of neck ; dressed in black coat and vest, dark plaid trousers, and hard felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, February 13. Description of FREDERICK BROWN, a tailor and native of Lincoln, who absconded on 10th instant., from Lincoln, about 2' 30 p. m.. charged on a warrant with stealing on 9th instant, four couples of Fowls, the property of James Potts Marshal], of Burton, farmer : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, dark com- plexion, black moustache, little whiskers, and mole on left arm ; dressed in dark clothes, light boots, with toecaps. Is supposed to be making for Grimsby or Hull. Information to be given to Inspector Taylor, Lindsey Police Station, Lincoln. — Bow- street, February 13. Absconded on 22nd ultimo, from Old Stratford, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 3 5s., belonging to his master Mr. A. W. Robinson, coal merchant, Old Stratford: STEWART ROSE, a boatman, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 ins. high, fair complexion, Roman nose, light hair, and slight whiskers ; dressed in double- breasted reefer jacket, no vest. He is of dirty slovenly appearance, and has been employed for years on the Grand Junction Canal driving steam boats. He is a native of Branniston, Northamptonshire. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent Norman, Towcester, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, February lX Absconded on 5th instant., from Little Earl- street, Seven Dials, stealing £ 8 in Silver : the waiter, 16 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, parted in centre; dressed in grey mixture jacket, vest, and trousers, black billycock hat, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 11. Absconded on 5th instant, from 2, Staples Inn, Holborn, stealing £ 17 in Gold : a youth, clerk, 18 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, full face, light hair, thick and bushy, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in black frock coat, light brown trousers, round hard felt hat; frequents billiard rooms. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 11. Absconded on 5th instant, from 2, Lorne- terrace, Holloway, stealing £ 10 in Gold, a black Dress and Apron, trimmed with lace, an imitation sealskin Jacket, a pair of lady's button Boots, a carpet Bag, 7 pairs Goloshes, a common Brooch : a woman, servant, 22 years of age, stout build, very dark'complexion and hair; supposed dressed in stolen clothes, black bonnet, side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, Y Divi- sion, February, 11. . Description of JOHN HEARNDEN, charged on warrant with felony, at St. Peter's, near Margate, Kent, on 30th ultimo : he is 47 years of age, 5 feet 6|- inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, proportionate build ; dresssd in dark cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, blue guernsey underneath, dark cord trousers, old long leather leggings, heavy lacs- up boots, and black billycock hat; marks, ring on second finger left hand, woman on right arm, scar over right eye, and varicose veins right leg ; is a ticket- of- leave man, and has travelled with an entire horse in Kent, Essex, Surrey and Hants. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stokes, Kent Constabulary, Sandwich.— Bow- street, February 11. She was convicted at Bristol on 30th July last, for simple larceny, and sentenced to 6 months' imprisonment, and one year police supervision. KING a baker, who left Hardingstone, Northampton, on 19th ult, without giving notice to the police : 25 years of age, 5 ft. 7 J inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, medium build, has a scar on bottom of back and left shoulder blade, " several ^ boil marks and a mole on back of neck, scar and swelling right side of groin, mole on left arm pit, ruptured on left side, a woman's head, ' A. W.' in German capitals, and a mole on left forearm, anchor and mole on right forearm, and two scars inside left forefinger. He was convicted of fraud at Bedford at the Summer Assizes, 1876, and sentenced to 18 calendar months imprisonment and 5 years police supervision, and was discharged from Bedford Gaol.
