All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description oan be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1877. ENGLISH POLICE. DESCRIPTION of Henry Johnson, a private of the Royal Artillery, and a servant in the officers' mess, who absconded from Coventry, on the 9th instant, and is charged under a Warrant with stealing .£ 17, the moneys of the officers :— He is 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, well built, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, slight dark moustache, anchor on right arm and cross flags on left arm ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, and black billycock hat; when last seen was wearing an Ulster coat. Stated on joining the service that he belonged to Leamington. Knows Birmingham well, and is by trade a tailor. Information to be given to Head- Constable Norris, Coventry, who holds a Warrant for his apprehension. £ 20 REWARD. LOST, on the night of the 3rd instant, from the person of a gentleman, in Ormskirk, 2 £ 100 Bank of England notes, numbers J| 50990, London, 13/ 4/ 77, and J, 99062, Liverpool, 13/ 3/ 76, and 1 £ 50 and 2 £ 10 Bank of England notes ( numbers not known), as well as about £ 15 in gcfld. Information at the County Police Office, Ormskirk. Ormskirk, November 9, 1877. SCOTTISH POLICE. THEFT BY HOUSEBREAKING, STOLEN, by means of housebreaking, between the hours of 5 p. m. of Monday and 7 a. m. of Wednesday, the 5th and 7th instant, from Underwood House, the residence of Alexander Forrester, restaurant keeper, situated in Lower Sutherland Crescent, Helens- burgh, the following articles, from a jewel case, which had been left on a dressing- table in one of the bed- rooms :— 1. A gold finger- ring, having a large opal stone in the centre, and set round with diamonds ; the ring is a lady's one, and valued about £ 26. 2. A gentle- man's old- fashioned gold watch, gold dial, maker's name at present unknown, No. 16,792, neither is it known at present whether the watch is a lever or verge; value about £ 15 or £ 20. 3 An old fashioned lady's gold watch, gold dial, maker's name at present unknown, No. 1,892 ; value about £ 12. 4. A gold locket, having the coloured photographs of two ladies and two gentlemen; also a raised mono- gram with letters " C. F." on one side, and on the other a crest with a horn, and underneath said horn are the words " Blow, hunter, thy horn." in dark blue enamel; value about £ « . 5. A lady's gold band necklet with fringes of gold at both ends ; value about £ 12. 6. A long gold guard chain, something after the serpent pattern ; value about £ 10. 7. One gold bracelet ( flat), French work, with dark blue enamel and pearls across the band ; value about £ 15. 8. A gold brooch, like lover's bow, set with diamonds, and dark blue enamel; value about £ 20. 9. A pair of gold ear- rings set with tortoise, and having gold fringes ; value about £ >. 10. A set— brooch, and ear- rings with the cross . and crown, and set with pearls, either on the crown or cross; brooch and ear- rings are of Sutherland gold ; value about £ 8. 11. 2 gentleman's gold signet rings, one with blood- stone set in it, value about 6 guineas ; the other, the colour of the stone is not at present known, value about £ 2. 12. A small diamond ring, half hoop ; ivalue about £ 10. 13. A gold sovereign. 14. A plajAflat gold bracelet band; value about £ 10. 15. A goMliorse- shoe brooch, set with either four or six ScotaTpebbles ; value about £ 5. Entiy was obtained by breaking a pane of glass in a lobby window at the back of said house, opposite the sasli- fastener or snib, raising the window, and entering thereby. Several pieces of an old news- paper were left in one of the rooms by the thief or thieves, and on the margin of one of these pieces of paper the name " Hugh Convery" was written in pencil. Police Officers are requested to make dilligent search for the above at jewellers', pawnbrokers', and other likely places where the same" may be disposed of in their respective districts, and if any trace be found of the stolen property, to immediately com- municate with the subscriber, or with Joseph Jenkins, esq., Chief Constable, County Buildings, Dumbarton. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who is wanted on Warrant charging him with having obtained goods by false pretences from trades- people in Dublin:— Charles Doyle, about 32 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, pale complexion, and marked very much about the nose with small- pox; dressed in a dark tweed Derby coat, shabby grjiy tweed trow- sers and vest, and round jerry hat; he is a native ; came back from America lately, and said he had a return ticket to go back by the steamship Germania. STOLEN from the North- wall, Dublin, on the 17th August, 1877, the following articles, the property of a passenger, between Holyhead and Dublin, viz.:— A brown leather portmanteau, J. C. on each end, canvas cover, same initials on ends, containing the following articles, viz — a new dress suit, made by Buckmaster, Dawson- street, a morning suit, a shawl- pattern dressing gown ( red flannel lining), about 8 linen shirts ( 2 fancy), 2 night shirts, 1 pair of merino drawers, 2 silk under- vests; thte name Buckmaster supposed on inside of collars of coats, on inside of back straps of vests, on inside of waistbands of trow- sers, and on buttons of latter; I dozen collars, 6 silk and 6 cambric pocket handkerchiefs, and • some silk ties, 1 dressing- case well furnished, 1 pair of London made razors with ivory hafts ( 1 of latter split), 1 French razor strop ( maker Eubriel), 1 pair hair- brushes in case, 1 long tortoise- shell comb ( a tooth broken), a large magnifying glass mounted in metal, a small do. mounted in tortoise- shell, a large white ivory double opera- glass, a complete set of ivory teeth ( gold springs), 1 fancy inkstand ( double cover), a Roman Catholic prayerbook ( bound in Russian lea- ther, a cross on cover), several reading essays, books, < fcc., & c., a silver- mounted cigar case to hold 8 cigars, a brown leather do., about 18 cabinet cigars, and 1 onyx breast- pin, with studs to match. DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names unknown, who are wanted on suspicion of having stolen a cow, which they had in their possession, and offered for sale to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 5 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and soft jerry hat. , The woman is 30 to 35 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan. of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20,1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for Stealing £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and absconding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where his parents are supposed to reside. DESCRIPTION of James Madden, native of Shana- kyle, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 1st November, 18' 7, in the barony of Bun- ratty Lower, parish of St. Patrick, assaulted and attempted to violate the person of Ellen Dundon :— Wears all his beard, which is light and sandy ; generally keeps his hands in pockets when walking ; gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, freckled face, medium make, 5 feet 7$ inches high, about 2S years of age, light brown hair; wore a low felt hat, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two oi a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his faca blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 5, 1876. DESCRIPTION of convict William Hodge ( 2472), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Convicted at Kanturk, county Cork, at December Sessions, on 31st December, 1872, for housebreaking and robbery, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude;,' 25 years of age on conviction, reads and writes badly, is a Protestant, single, by trade a miner, and discharged soldier, 65th Regiment; states he was born in Bandon, county Cork ( supposed to be untrue, Falmouth is believed to be the place); resided before conviction in Cork; states he cannot tell whether he has any friends alive or not; darft brown hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, sallow complexion, angular visage, stout make, 5' feet 6f inches high; pockmarks on right cheek; an anchor on right arm, an eagle on left arm, a bracelet and crown on left wrist, and bracelet on right wrist ( all tattoo marks), D. on left breast; lost one upper front tooth. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 20th February, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Dublin. This man has been residing in the city of Cork, where he left about the 7th ultimo, without reporting himself, and has not since been heard of. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 84 and 85 Vic,, cap. 1 12. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, October 18, 1877. Sheil, alias Ryan, supposed to be a native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 11th September, 1877, in the barony of West Narragh and Reban, parish of Churchtown, stolen 2 heifers and 1 bullock, the property of Mrs. Maria Crawley :— Has lost nearly all his back teeth; has a grinning expression when speaking; has a loose swinging gait; gray eyes, large hooked nose, sallow complexion, long withered face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 48 years of age, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache; wore a brown faded frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, tweed vest; is a ploughman, and frequents low lodging- houses. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Leahy, native of Clonalisk, who stands charged with having, on the 31st October, 1877, in the barony of Clonlisk, parish of Temple- harry, assaulted James Hogan, by striking him with a stone on the head, thereby endangering his life :— Left eye is black from a blow ; has square shoulders; brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark bail-, small dark whiskers; wore a jerry hat, gray frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers, tweed vest; is a labourer; belongs to the King's county Militia. DESCRIPTION of an ass, the property of Anthony Curran, which was stolen off the lands of Carricka- voher, parish of Cloone, barony of Mohill, on the morning of the 2nd November, 1877 :— A white- coloured male ass, not castrated, low in height, stout make, tail cut very short, and hair of tail cut even, has a nice small head, shod on fore feet only, hind ' feet never were shod, all the hoofs incline inwards, age 4 years last May; and value for £ I. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley,) native of Knockgranagh, wh<> stands changed with having, on the 29th November, ult., in tho barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone :— Down- looking appearance, two upper front teeth large and prominent, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders; it is also stated that Bunt's left wrist is tattooed; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, black hair, small dark moustache ; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer. Has a pair of English- made navvy boots with iron plates under toes, also a pair of light Wellington boots. DESCRIPTION of William O'Brien, alias Black, alias Sheridan, native of Castlebar, who stands charged » ith having, on the 7th of October, 1877, in the barony of Leyney, parish of Achonry, entered tho dwelling- house of John Barbour and stolen 2 feints :— Smart active appearance; gray eyes, regulawiose, sallow complexion, small thin face, slight1 ^ rake, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age> black hair; wore a large soft hat, black coat, gray tweed trowsers, black vest; wears high- low boots. DESCRIPTION of 8 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 3rd November, 1877, in the barony of Glenahiry, parish of Inishlaught, and county of Waterford, attacked and robbed James Lonergan of 9s. 6d. on the public road:— 1. Stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age; wore a soft low hat, drawn over his eyes, dark coat and trowsers; muffled up about the face. 2. Stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age; wore a soft low hat, drawn over his eyes, dark coat and trowsers; muffled up about the face. 3. M.
